was cold and stunned, but that he said, i did it for fun. the windsor students were at the bridge on a field trip. a junior jumped off the bridge off the hot point. one surfer i was telling you about his name is larry from north park. he told me that he actually saw the student jumped and said he nearly landed on two other surfers who were on their boards down on the water. now a spokeswoman for the district said the junior was able to walk out of the water on his own accord after being pushed today the edge by some of those surfers in the water. she said the student has no serious injuries just some tenderness and bruising. even though he was transported to the hospital is under mental observation. why the student jumped is under investigation, but the administrator says she is

confident it was not a dare. mike mibach. there was a brief scare at an oakland middle school today. counselors were put on lock down after gunshots were heard on campus. it happened on international boulevard. a police officer heard six gunshots and found bullet holes in the walls of a beauty parlor. investigators say they don't know if the business was a target. an oakland woman is searching for answers after two men gunned down her boyfriend outside of her mother's home outside of lake merit. we first brought you this story tonight. the woman and her sister had just reached the front door of the home when two men came up and demanded money. after they handed over the money, the men shot and killed mendoza. >> they had a gun and said, do

you have money. i said yes i have money. i opened up the wallet and gave her $80. >> the gun, boom like this. and when i came back i seen him on the ground. >> the women say the killer spoke to mendoza in spanish. that they saw the killer with three other men before the shooting. there seems to be a stand off going on between store owners and street vendors. it's all because of the city's new sit-lie law. a law police are yet to enforce. >> reporter: here on hay street, the battle seems to be growing. in answer to those signs, street people are apparently posting signs all along the sidewalk says no we won't go. even on this drizzly day there's people, mostly young

men sat on hay street outside doors. the city issued an ordnance. >> people are quick to anger. i feel this is a level of animosity just wrapped up. >> reporter: police are supposed to be enforcing the new law last month but it still has not happened. police say they needed additional training, now they are waiting for multi lingual cards to come back from printing. repeat offenders can face fines up to $500 or jail. >> this is hay street. hay street peace and love, you can't get rid of us that's just the way it is. >> reporter: residents say they feel too intimidated walking through this group. one woman said she has been followed. but others say that the

homeless people here are harmless. >> i've been unemployed for two years so i can understand the people sitting and lying because a lot of them have nowhere to go. >> we've had drugs here, we've had people looking for drugs. whatever. >> well i'm not going to mars or jupiter or something, i have to be some where. >> reporter: police expect to become enforcing sit and lie later this month. the guardian angels plan to return to san francisco district in a couple of hours this comes after the angels patrolled the streets in the mission this past weekend following two weeks of violence. police say the spike in crime there is due to a war between two rival gangs. the guardian angels plan to walk in the neighborhood tonight from 7:00 until midnight and throughout the weekend. a capitol hill today, members of congress faced off in an emotional hearing about

american muslims and terrorism. some called the hearing a witch hunt. >> reporter: dozens of members of congress called on the chairman of the house homeland security committee to back off the hearing. he got threatening phone calls and needed extra police protection today. but new york republican congressman peter king forged ahead. >> to back down will be a surrender and an advocation which i believe is the main priority of this committee to protect america from a terrorist attack. >> reporter: new york congressman peter king led a hearing about the threat. he called a father to testify about how his son converted to islam and was lured to a terrorist training camp in yemen. >> we're losing our children, this country must stand up and do something about the threat. >> reporter: throughout the hearing, critics said it was

democrats who left the state to avoid having to vote. this afternoon, protesters tried to break into the assembly chambers where lawmakers also passed the bill. now it's up to the governor and he says he will sign that bill as soon as possible. it's about reform. it's about making sure we can put people to work, we can save jobs, and alternately balance the budget in the way it protects the middle class here in wisconsin. the white house also slammed the bill, the president's press secretary said mr. obama feels it's wrong to vilify public sector employees. and stocks took a steep dive on wall street today. we saw stocks from china and spain. the dow had its biggest one day drop since august.

the officer may not have known he was involved in the crash. very few people probably consider a cell phone to be a weapon. but if you talk to correctional officers that's exactly how they see them. ktvu's ken pritchett is live tonight with the dramatic story of why cell phones in prisons are such a big concern. ken. >> reporter: frank, right now on my cell phone i have a satellite imagine of san quentin prison. that might be handy information through an inmate planning an escape. but the truth is, some inmates have this information already on their smuggled cell phones. can a cell phone be a deadly weapon. listen to prison guard robert johnson's story. >> i saw him raise up and he shot me six sometimes in the stomach and chest. >> reporter: an inmate in his prison used a cell phone to

order a kill. >> he ordered a hit, that's exactly what it is. >> reporter: cell phones are routinely smuggled into prisons in hollowed out books. at a conference in sacramento, california corrections say 2,400 cell phones were confiscated from inmates in the first two months of this year. remarkably possession of a cell phone in state prison is not a criminal offense. >> it's not a crime to transport or to provide cell phones to inmates or bring them in. >> reporter: sniff dogs are now finding cell phones. johnson says a solution is needed fast. >> whether it's the public. whether it's a judge. whether it's a senator, it's going to happen again. >> reporter: here is a state capital, a bill to make cell

phone possession within a state prison a felony is now pending. we'll show you some of the technology now being tested in state prisons to detect those cell phones. in sacramento, ken pritchett. a stolen lamborugini drew even more strange with calls of sightings of the call. ktvu reported it showed up on some security cameras and was seen on the golden gate bridge. the man apparently repelled down the celling and made out with the car that belonged to celebrity chef guy fierri. and lakeland is about 25 miles northeast of sacramento.

in this surveillance video, shows the thieves breaking in through the window. they then put jewelry in a plastic bag. the store owner say they keep the most valuable pieces in a safe which was not broken into. and the commissioner is supposed to hear that mold has been killing sea gulls. the birds have been dying on pier 94. it's unclear if the recent deaths are related to other birds. researchers found mold inside the breast cavity of the birds.

parents and students. the attorney for a sacramento area man is using facebook violating the privacy of does -bs of women says her client doesn't deserve jail time. he pleaded guilty to using information on facebook to hack into women's e-mails and then e- mailing nude or partially nude images of women. the office served 60 years in prison, but her attorney says her client should get probation. mark zuckerburg is making money faster than any other millionaire. zuckerburg's network almost tripled in the last year. that makes him the 62nd richest person in the world. moskovich is the youngest on the forbes list.

an article in the peninsula press has bay area farmers market likely suffering from their own success. it says the numbers has boomed and farmers were able to survive having one or two farmers market and now find they have to set up shop at more than 12. that means higher cost to reach the same number of people. the article says experts believe the bay area has not reached market saturation. budget cuts proposed by republicans -- recent government figures show almost 15% of california homeless are veterans. last year more than 1,700 of them received a federal housing voucher to help keep them off the streets. and the government is planning to slash the program to reduce the deficit. >> it's not about a number. it's about real people who have put it all in the line for this
