noon. >> good afternoon, i am maureen naylor, in today for tori campbell. we begin today with a break in the rain for the most part. scattered showers are still in the area but today residents have a chance to dry out after a week filled with heavy rain. ktvu cameras spotted this look sight, a rainbow this morning. the rain left a lot of cleaning up to do. mark tamayo is in the weather center, allie rasmus is in san pablo, but we begin with janine delainvestigate de la vega de

la vega. good afternoon. >> reporter: hi rainwater flooded into the treats and stores. take a look at this video. >> this is flowing really fast. >> reporter: this is what it looked like yesterday the street turned into a rushing river bringing a couple of feet of water into the businesses and homes along the street. public works officials say drainage pipes failed. all the residents were evacuated there because of the danger and now a huge sinkhole is left in the street because of the damage. police were on the scene again 82 assessing that damage. >> we secured the road and there is three or four feet of water coming down and went out to the ocean. >> this was i think the heaviest rain i have seen but it is by far the worst damage.

>> reporter: today most businesses again in capitolla village are closed, airing out their stores, cleaning up the muddy mess inside. street sweepers and other equipment were brought in. some of these storeowners don't have flood insurance so they will have to pay out of spoct pocket to clean up all this damage, janine de la vega, ktvu channel 2 news. >> we turn to allie rasmus, where a sliding hill chunk has has taken a chunk out of a homeowner's backyard. >> reporter: it started out as a small crack and systems yesterday part of the hillside started to break away and today the homeowner fears the problem

is getting worse. she fought back tears as she looked at the damage. her children were first to notice the damage. >> my children said mom your backyard is gone. >> reporter: today their neighbor's yard broke away. they tried to comfort each other. their insurance companies will not cover the damage. at first the city said there is nothing they could do. she said it is not just her. >> it is not just my house, the whole hill is going down. >> reporter: the mayor came by and said maybe fema could help. >> this is private property and maybe there is grant money available to make this happen. >> reporter: they will meet this afternoon to help them figure out who to contact at

the state and federal level to get this cleaned up. >> a lot of work ahead, thank you. in the sierra at this hour it is still a nightmare for anyone trying to get over the pass to the tahoe area see resorts. highway 80 remains closed because of whiteout conditions. authorities shut down the highway yesterday afternoon and some drivers have been waiting for hours to get through. >> seen this area, my whole birthday, but, hey, it was an experience, one birthday i won't forget. >> unfortunately, i planned to be in reno for four days and it has taken us so far 12 hours for a two and a half hour drive. >> highway 50 is open but chains are required, there is a danger of an avalanche outside

established ski areas. >> the weather conditions are improving today but we still have scattered showers out there, it is one of those deals where we have the sun, clouds and a passing downpour out there. we still have coverage out there and still looks like the focus is closer to santa cruz county. those yellow and reds correspond to downpours. we could have exaggeration with the nearby rainfall but still moderate rainfall and still more activity around hayward and san leandro as well. we will shift the maps to the north and show you this in the north bay, tracking activity closer to napa and vallejo so still a bit of an unsettled weather pattern today, tomorrow, though, unfortunately, another weather system i am watching. we will have the timing on that and how much rainfall we can

expect from that system developing in the pacific. >> pg&e is still working on storm related power outages around the bay area. we received a received an update that shows most are in the east bay. 650 on the north bay and 600 on the peninsula, no outrages in san francisco or in the south bay. in san enselmo nervous shopkeepers have been keeping a close eye on the weather and the creek. a rainbow came out as the storm broke up in marin county and right now san enselmo creek is well below flood level but the heavy rain overnight prompted some businesss to keep their sandbags in place just to be safe. yesterday the torrential rain flooded stores and sent refers of mud flowing into the hills there. in mill valley a small mudslide is blocking one lane of highway 1 at erica road and highway

one, also known as shoreline highway. let's go live to news chopper 2 over the scene of the slide. the slide is in the tamm valley neighborhood of mill valley. you see to the right of the screen where the mud is covering the road. the highway patrol is enforcing one lane traffic on shoreline highway around the mudslide. if possible drivers are advised to use an alternate route. train officials are canceling service on the altamont commuter express because of a mudslide. it happened yesterday afternoon in the middle of niles canyon between the pleasanton and fremont stations. crews cleaned it up but there is still a concern about more rain and another slide. service will be back to normal by monday morning. track weather conditions anytime at ktvu.com. look for the storm watch tab at the front page. also viewers have been sharing

some of their photos, you can find those again on ktvu.com. jurors in the barry bonds perjury trial are getting a three daybreak from court. testimony won't start again until monday, when prosecutors may call his former mistress kimberly bell. yesterday the jury heard about side effects from using steroids. he serves as the chief science officer at the u.s. antidoping agency. the man who confessed to killing chauncey bailey will return to the witness stand monday. devontae broussard is a key witness against the two men accused of plotting the killing. in court yesterday he talked about committing other crimes for bay. broussard's credibility is key to the prosecution's case. he is supposed to detail bailey's killing next week. the threat of a nuclear disaster in japan is heating up

a berkeley woman is in custody after she led police on a car chase this morning. officers say it started about 2:00 a.m. in a six unit apartment house at stewart and sacramento. police were watching a car which they say had been used in another crime when a woman got into the car and drove off. the car scraped a wall, took down a support beam and hit an undercover police cruiser. police caught the woman at california and dwight. she now faces 10 counts including assault with a deadly weapon, hit-and-run and resisting arrest. nato has agreed to take over enforcement of the no-fly zone over libya but the u.s., france and britain are still in charge of the more controversial attacks on khadafi's ground forces and other targets. the u.s. had wanted nato to take over both operations. in the meantime president obama is holding a conference call with congressional leaders in

response to criticism that he failed to sufficiently consult with them. libya invited foreign journalists to what it said was a funeral but reporters could not find any victims, some called it a hoax while some said bodies were simply taken from a morgue by those loyal to the libyan leader. there are reports that they have shot several demonstrator across that country. pro and antigovernment demonstrators clashed today in damascus. it is the lately uprising there. a number of victims in japan topped 10,000 today.

number rare officials may raise their rating at the nuclear plant to 6 out of possible 7 levels. they suspect the reactor core unit three may have been breached, that could mean a more significant radiation leak. some work was stopped so radiation levels could be checked. the prime minister said he is not on optimistic. suspicion of a breach was discovered after workers suffered skin burns. the japanese criticized the supervisor saying they did not properly measure the levels before the workers went in. california's jobless rate slipped for the second month in a row. the state unemployment rate fell from 12.4% in january to

of your saturday. i am going to highlight the timing in just a second. still a chance of a few showers for sunday. i think this is the forecast we have been waiting for for next week. finally a dry weather pattern and temperatures warming up. for today in the pacific. the system impacting the region now and the next one developing upstream. for today the lingering rain showers and snow showers for lake tahoe, winter storm warnings for today extended into saturday. for us that unsettled pattern in place, clouds and sun, the showers out there, off and on, plenty of breaks in the activity. as we head into saturday the next system marchs closer to our coastline. with that some morning rain expected. it could be locally heavy. here is our forecast model at 6:00 primarily just some clouds out there. the possibility of a few lingering showers. as we do put tht into motion this is 4:00 tomorrow morning, rainfall rates picking up,

a live look now at the big board you can see the new york stock exchange hovering ard the 12,230 mark, up 62 points at this hour. stocks are rallying helped by a stroarng than expected growth report. the dow us now higher for the month. it fell as low as 37,600 two weeks ago. again up about 60 points right now. developing news just in for canada. a no confidence vote in parliament threatens to topple the government. they held it in contempt for failing to disclose financial details. today's vote will result in a new election, probably in may. harper is expected to get re- elected but without the

majority he currently has. people attending britain's royal wedding next month may have to brush up on their wedding etiquette. guests are being strongly advised to be on their best behavior. for example they should not tweet or use their phones during the ceremony, they should dress appropriately and be on time. the queen should be the last one to arrive before the bride. under no circumstances should they hug or kiss the queen. an employee is accused of vandalizing the club. police a musical engineer went into the building with a bat and destroyed several areas, it is believed it is the result of a dispute during wednesday night's performance, police estimate the damage at josh joshi's is around 10,000 dollars. you have a few more days to use
