good morning, everyone. welcome to mornings on 2. it's saturday, march 26th. more rain is here, and to find out how long it will last, let's go straight to rosemary. >> good morning to you. it's falling pretty heavy in some areas at this time. we're expecting the heaviest rain this morning and then scattered showers for the afternoon. giving a look at storm-tracker, a little closer to santa cruz mountains seeing some pretty steady rain. some of the yellow and reds indicating possibility of from a quarter inch to half inch. if we head to the east bay we have some cells over areas, hayward into fremont, milpitas this morning. want that shift north bay, because we're looking at changes. santa rosa almost in the dry. the system again is going to be pushing off to the east, and we will have scattered showers for the afternoon. we'll take you through the rest of day, show you how much rain has fallen this morning, coming up.

this morning, homes are both at top and bottom east bay hillside on the verge of being destroyed after a huge landslide that happened yesterday in san pablo. and that's where we find ali rasmus with more on what is happening today. could reveal safety of the rooms now threatened. >> reporter: engineers from the city of san pablo are supposed to come out today. it was another sleepless night nor the homeowners here. this is the walker family home on wyman street. yesterday they put a giant tarp over a gaping hole in their backyard. their backyards started to shift on thursday during the storms. but today, even this morning, there are signs the ground continues to move. we were here yesterday at noon -- [loss of audio] we just got off the phone with police, who say a section of redwood road will remain closed indefinitely this week's

rain washed away the hillside under the road, causing it to crumble. neighbors tell us because it is a private road, homeowners will be responsible for fixing it. and today will be another day of bottled water for people living in 160 homes near pleasanton. crews will need at least one more day to repair a water main on pleasant hill ridge. a landslide shifted the ground and that breck the pipe yesterday morning. the water district says as a precaution, nearby residents who do have tap water should not drink it, even though district officials say the water is not contaminated. we also just checked with clear lake officials, and despite the rain there are no serious problems to report this morning. the water, however, is above flood stage level so water is running over the spillway there. looks like was bathtub faucet. flood stage is 9 feet. officials say there hasn't been a lot of rain there overnight and they're certainly hoping it stays that way.

good morning to you. giving you a look at the foggy start. so while we slept the next storm rolled in. you can see it is moderate, even heavy at times. santa cruz mountains getting hit, and we're expecting from an inch to an inch and a half in this area before it sweeps by. so we are watching this for you. no advisories at the moment, but we will let you know if that changes. also seeing some moderate rain over milpitas this morning. in between a fremont and pleasanton, getting ready to head your way just a little bit. hey worked you're seeing light rain this morning. and the north bay although the rain is falling, it is beginning to taper off. look at satellite and radar, where you can see it we're already looking at the back edge of this storm as it begins to move through. so the heaviest rain expected between now and 8:00 or so. and then we'll see it taper off, roll you through the dare.

notices the scattered showers for the evening hours. by tomorrow morning we're looking at partly to mostly cloudy skies with one more weak wave to go. so again, tracking the santa cruz mountains for today, we're expecting the south westerly flow to bring in anywhere from three-quarters inch to an inch of already seeing from half inch in some areas right around the north bay and santa cruz mountains reporting almost 7/10 in some cases. napa now 48. 50 in oakland. upper 40s in redwood city. similar to yesterday. with gray skies and rainy conditions. 56 expected this afternoon in vallejo. 57 in berkeley under mostly cloudy size. 56 in san francisco. the lingering showers for the afternoon, 59 mountain view, 58 morgan hill, and 57 expected in santa cruz. we do have a warning over the sierra, continuing through 7:00 this evening. one to two feet of fresh snow expected, snow levels down to 3,000 feet. and rising above 3500 feet for the afternoon. take a look at your extended

forecast here. temperatures will be below average today through tomorrow, it will be a soggy weekend, mostly cloudy. the possibility of just a little sunshine overnight lows back into the 40s for tomorrow. monday into tuesday, the big turnaround. we'll be drying out. temperatures slowly rebounding with wednesday looking to be the best day so far, 67 degrees. and mostly sunny skies. that's a tendering difference from today, into wednesday. we'll take you through the rest of the forecast and show you what you can expect as you get through the rest of the weekend, coming up in just a bit. >> thank you. this morning the oakland fire department says there's no need to worry over a containership docked at the port of oakland and whether and brought radiation from japan. the department hazardous materials response team screened the ship early this morning after longshoremen said they were afraid radiation could be inside containers aboard that ship. tests done on friday morning by the coast guard also showed there was no radiation onboard, but the longshoremen who work on the ship are not convinced and say they will not go back

to work until more tests are done. >> this is the first vessel that comes from japan since the nuclear accident over there and the fallout. this is more of an occurrence as more ships come over. we need to set a precedent bus this is a billion dollar industry. >> the ship departed 200 miles away from the crippled reactors in japan. the coast guard says people should not worry about radiation from ships that did not travel within 50 miles of those power plants. this morning the u.s. navy is rushing to help cool the japanese power plant still at risk of overheating. these are pictures from the navy and they show the barges loaded with freshwater, water, headed towards the fukashima dai-ichi complex it. will be poured on the reactors inside the complex to help cool them down. they were using seawater but

now want freshwater. also in japan a mass funeral service for 700 victims of the earthquake and tsunami. the social security took part in the town of japan's prefecture. the mass burial is highly unusual because custom normally calls for the dead to be cremated. however, cremation centers can't operate now because of oil and electricity shortages. the official death toll from the quake and tsunami now stands at over 10,000. overnight, libyan rebels against leader moammar gaddafi announced they regained control of the eastern city. the victory exactly one week after u.s.-led forces started launching missile strikes inside the country. president obama in his weekly address to the nation said the joint military operation is succeeding and his decision to deploy military forces has saved lives. democrats and republicans have criticized the president for not discussing with them more thoroughly the mission, its goals and exit strategy yew we

now want to return back to ali rasmus in san pablo, watching the developing situation there. ali, what are you seeing with the homes? you were there yesterday, watching this this morning. are you seeing a change? >> reporter: yes, there's some signs to of the ground still moving. in our last live hit we're about to show you this fence that divides this -- the walker family home from their neighbor's property. at noon yesterday, this fence was still intact. you can see now it's broken apart as the ground here and the yard here continues to slide downhill. >> that wasn't there before. every hole in my house, this is fresh one. >> the walker family took us you there authorize home earlier this morning. they were pointing out some new cracks in the walls and pavement. they said they sent their kids to stay with other family members last night and they say they will not be spending another night in their home. >> this whole hillside is compromised. not only behind me, but in

front of me. we got to see where the water is coming from, that's coming underneath and going that way. >> the erosion problem is not limited to just this house. a total of 6 homes are affected on both the top and bottom of the hill. yesterday homeowners met with san pablo city officials and learned the city of san pablo also owns property at the bottom of this hill. there are two empty lots on hillcrest drive. when it comes to getting help, fixing this problem, it's still a wait and see situation for the homeowners. right now they are just waiting until noon, when engineers are supposed to come out here. ali rasmus, ktvu channel 2 news. some curious allegations against a charity run by madonna. the reason she's now scrapping plans for a major project, an impoverished after african country. >> a live look outside, wet

good morning to you. a wet and windy start in some cases, gusts reported at 20 miles per hour, a live look from our roof cam this morning, where a steady rain will taper off to scattered showers. there are worries about too much water near sacramento this morning. both rivers that run through the capitol city have officials concerned about flooding. we are in sacramento keeping a level on water levels there. >> reporter: good morning. this is supposed to be a parking lot but it's right next to the sacramento river and appears that this is a river now. basically, you need a boat or jet ski just to get around.

the water levels are expected to peak in sacramento today. i spoke with flood officials and they say it will reach 25.5. this is monitor stage and remain that way through the weekend although the good news is it's going to subside just a little bit tomorrow. it's going to drop about a half foot here. so the big concern for people, this is our law offices and the chevy's mexican restaurant so people will have to find alternate parking here. you definitely don't want to come here because this is what you're going to find. it's just not safe. i tried to get into the water myself, just to see how deep it is, and it's pretty swift, pretty cold and comes up to my waist here. levee patrols are in full effect in the sacramento area. they're monitoring about 40 miles of levees and say so far they have not detected any problems and they do not expect any breaches. but they're just asking people to stay away. a lot of people coming by with cameras to take pictures and document this moment. they say just be safe if you're

coming near any flooded areas, and of course the rivers because they are running high. back to you guys. >> thank you for that report. this morning you cannot see evidence of thursday's sewage spill in marin county, but residents living in ross valley are still not happy. the district says 9,000 gallons of raw sewage spilled out through manhole covers during the storm. warning signs are still posted after the contaminated water ran down the streets. residents say they are angry and they want something done to prevent it from happening again. >> there's no excuse for this! this is insanity. >> the district officials say they have already spent $11 million this year to expand the sewer system to process 125 million gallons of waste. flooding is causing a disaster situation. 12 investigates in the southern part of that country were hit by a second round of flash

floods on friday night. locals were evacuated as a strong wave knocked down trees and damaged vehicles, and some provinces are underwater and one river keeps rising. a charity co-founded by madonna is being reexamined after reports of money mismanagement. this were supposed to fund an all-girls school in africa but the new york times reports the plans were scrapped after some of the money for the school was spent on cars, salaries and even golf memberships. the board has been replaced and madonna says her team is still going to do whatever it can to dress the education problem. the head of the faa is ordering new procedures an after air traffic controller fell asleep on the job. the faa says two pilots from approaching airliners radioed the control tower at reagan national airport permission to land but received no response. the planes landed on their own without getting clearance. in response, the faa says

controllers at radar facilities will contact towers. that are a operator with just controller after midnight to ensure someone is awake and working. if the tower does not respond, the pilots will be offered the option of diverting to another airport. this morning nato officials are trying to figure out what went wrong after an airstrike in afghanistan ended with a death of civilians. the strike happened friday in the hell man province. nato says it was meant to target taliban fighters. but when coalition troops checked out the wreckage left behind, they found dead civilians instead. the man suspected of killing a police officer in georgia is in custody this morning. a news photographer was recording this video when 33- year-old jamie hood walked out of an apartment in athens, georgia last night and his hands up. four others also came out at the same time. police say 33-year-old killed one officer and wounded another on tuesday. a san diego judge says he

is going to rule next week on a case pitting target stores against gay and lesbian people. they filed a lawsuit to stop talking to customers outside of stores. the group claims target is singling them out for political reasons, but target says it has a corporate policy against solicitors on its property. san francisco based wells fargo bank will no longer enroll new customers in its reward program for debit card users. the program offers cardholders points for spending and making minimum deposits, which are traded for cash or gifts. j.p. morgan chase will drop its program in july. banks say the programs are just too costedly. some members of congress are working to legalize online betting. they say licensing some websites that many people already use would make it safer for everyone. they add that the federal government could also tax the businesses and the gamblers winnings. some say legalizing that unline venue could add to more

gambling addictions. one former addict says gambling nearly destroyed his life. >> the only things i didn't do to support my gambling addiction was get it on, make money or get involved with illegal drugs. not that the site didn't want to do it. i just didn't know where to get items. otherwise, would you have stayed out doors a little longer. >> supporters of legalized betting promise only reputable websites would be licensed and they say there will be safeguards to prevent children from placing bets. it's more than three months seasons the roof of the metropolitan metrodome collapsed in a snow tomorrow and now repair work has started on the 106 panels that make up the inflated roof. crews are going to work 10-hour shifts to get it fixed in time for the scheduled start of the nfl season. workers have to use high cranes and rope ladders to take off and replace east section of that roof. >> start in the middle, the center diamond. get the initial four panels in place, and then they'll work outside of that until the center is completely done.

we have developing news right now. highway patrol may have to close all lanes of eastbound interstated 80, after an accident. there's a live look there of the interstate from one of our traffic cameras. we're told a truck driving on that section of freeway that passes over the gillerman avenue flipped over and is blocking the slow lane. the truck is up on the concrete barrier, and is leaking oil and some gas.

two tow trucks have been called to remove that truck. but that could take awhile, and support some careful maneuvering. no one was hurt in the accident. we'll update you as the story moves along. the bay area storms are creating a new hobby for at least one bay area resident. within man turned the santa rosa creek. >> his surfing spot. this is near the west third street bridge. the man is hold ton a rope. that rope attached to a fence and that's helping him stay on his feet. the fire department is strongly discouraging anyone from trying that stunt. as you may remember, two teenagers did i do last month in walnut creek and drowned after rafting down the waters of the creek following a big storm. charges could be filed on monday against the 15-year-old indiana student accused of shooting a fellow classmate as we first reported yesterday, on the ktvu morning news, the shooting happened in martinsville, indiana. police say a 19-year-old suspect had some confrontation

with the victim before opening fire. investigators say the suspect ran from the scene and tossed his gun in a field behind the school. officers caught him just about an hour later. >> the first thing i heard was from my daughter at 7:45 this morning. she said mom, come get me, i'm and bring a bulletproof vest. >> the 15-year-old victim is still at the hospital this morning. the motive has not been released. a nevada woman facing kidnapping charges burst out in anger after being told this week she would be going back to jail. it was all caught on camera. >> let me go! i got kids! [bleep] let me go! no. >> in happened on tuesday in a las vegas courtroom. the woman tried to wiggle and fight her way out of custody. it took three court-martials there to re trains her. one of them suffered minor injuries after she kicked him in the knee and face. a 23-year-old east bay man

was sentenced to 30 years to life in prison for scalding a toddler to death. air judge handed down the sentence yesterday. a jury convicted the man of torture and second-degree murder of his girlfriend's 18- month-old son who was immersed in 150-degree water. he was also convicted of beating a two-year-old girl in 2007. jurors in a courtroom probably did not think they would be sitting next to a billionaire when they reported for duty next week. oracle founder larry is hearing a lawsuit for a woman who allegedly slipped outside a car dealership. the taxpayers are getting their money's worth in the case, it's expected to last through next wednesday, and will receive the usual $15 a day for jurors based on his estimated compensation a week of his time is worked about $1.3 million. the girl who became known to the world as baby jessica is

remain but right now areas right around clear lake and lakeport drive remain above flood stage by about half foot or some of let's look at the east bay and valleys. we're seeing some moderate rain over areas like livermore, move through pleasanton, and around danville a few moments ago. looks look san leandro perhaps seeing a little light to moderate rain around mountainview could be seeing some pretty heavy rain at this moment or thereabouts. and areas right around the santa cruz mountains we continue to see the heaven rain falling so this will be again the case over the next hour or two. and then we all will begin to see it taper off to scattered showers. we are looking from a quarter inch of rain to an inch for the bay area today. one to one and a half for the mountains. and a heaviest rain again will be this morning. tomorrow we have a weaker storm that will roll through. partly cloudy skies expected. and most of us should see just about a 10th, even less than that. the north bay and mountains could see anywhere from a quarter inch to half inch. so expect through today and

highway 13, and then back west towards international boulevard. runners will then circle around lake merritt before hitting the finish loin. the orange county city of anaheim now admits it's pursuing an nba team but still won't mention the sacramento kings by name. anaheim's mayor says a special city council meeting will be held tuesday to discuss bringing a team to the honda center. the city will use a $75 billion bond measure to up grid the facility. the owners of the kings have been discussing for months their plans to move the team to southern california. terrifying moments overnight for a couple residents in an east bay neighborhood as a car crashes right into a home. what the driver did right after the crash. and the rain is putting a bay area neighborhood on edge. could it cause sliding homes to lose even more ground? we're watching the situation.

some bay area homeowners can do little else but watch as the ground near their houses slowly slides and the rain continues to fall. good morning, everyone. welcome back to mornings on 2. we're going to get to that in a moment. but first, this big accident in the east bay, developing news there. you are looking at live pictures of eastbound 80, little further up from where you're seeing right now is the

gillerman avenue area. and there's a big rig that flipped over there, blocking the slow lane. two tow trucks have been called but that do take a while. no one was hurt. now to san pablo, where homes on both of the top and bottom in the hillside are on the verge of being destroyed after they started sliding yesterday. that's all between wyman and hillcrest in san pablo. and with more rain falling, residents fear the situation could get worse. ali rasmus is out there monitoring the situation and has more on what is happening today. hi, ali. >> reporter: hi, claudine. the family -- walker family says all last night they were continuously won't up with the shouts of creeing noises and this is the reason why. on thursday, their backyard started to break away and even though that happened thursday, this morning they said there

are still signs the ground continues to move. take, for example, this crack right here in the pavement. yesterday it was just a thin little line. now you can see it has grown wider. the family also took us inside their home this morning and pointed out some of the cracks that appeared in the walls and the ceilings overnight. and with more rain on the way today, the walkers and their neighbors are increasingly concerned about the stability of the entire hill. >> we have friends and contacts. he pointed out that problem might have been at the beginning, build houses and drainage and it never drained right, and kept holding up the water and caused the collapse. >> a total of six homes are affected by this sliding hillside. the city of san pablo also owns two empty lots at the bottom of this hill. just 10 minutes ago we got an update from the homeowners here. they said they came from their neighbor's home directly downhill, and those neighbors

told them that they have found evidence of a natural spring that runs down this hill. the neighbors think that might be the source of their problems here. but it's still a wait and see situation for all the homeowners affected. later this morning, around noon, engineers are supposed to check it out. ali rasmus, ktvu channel 2 news. more crews hope the rains won't cause another problems with the storm drains in capitola. a damaged drainage pipe at the pacifica park kept residents away for a second night. crews are working to fix the problem even though they don't really know what happened. one resident says part of the pipe was replaced three years ago and the new section held up. heed added the old section of the pipe could not take the pressure from thursday's runoff. >> that elbow is a portion of the original pipe that was put in 40 years ago that never been repaired. so it's rusted out. and when it hits the rusty corner, it just exploded.

>> city officials say they are confident there won't be any more damage but residents may not be able to go home for two weeks while repair work continues. this morning all lanes are back open falling a mudslide on highway 1. highway 1 was closed between already egg and panoramic highway. the highway patrol says after the slide was cleared there was still quite a bit of mud on the road and caltrans had to sends a water truck to wash it off. this morning apt yough police are looking for the person who crashed their car inside a home around 11:00 last night behind the busy 18th street highway. as you can see, the blazer ended up halfway inside the home. but it all started more than 100 yards away behind the home. and the driver of the blazer plowed through a fire hydrant on 18 the street, knocking it off its feet and sending water into the sky. the blazer kept going, managing to climb up the steep hill before crashing into the home.

>> my neighbor could have been home, they could have hit -- went through my fence. and my wife was outside when that happened. when this accident happened. so -- it could have been anything. someone could are really got hurt. >> police say the driver of the blazer ran from the scene immediately, following that crash. one person is dead after being hit by a car in sonoma county in santa rosa. the man was struck by a car while walking down the road. an ambulance rush the man to a hospital, but he later died. anyone with information on this accident is asked to call the santa rosa police department. this morning, all the fresh snow in the sierra is drawing the attention of skiers and know boarders. right now cars and trucks are being allowed to get to lake tahoe and reno, and if they use chains or snow tires that is a huge difference from the last 36 hours after the recent dumping of snow forced the closure of interstate 80 for more than a day between colfax and the nevada state line.

this storm progresses to the east. we're seeing some moderate rain in and around danville this morning. flies over into fremont, perhaps seeing some rain, milpitas seeing good rain at this time into san jose. lows getoes, morgan hill, gilroy. moderate at this time. we're watching it come off the coast around half moon bay will continue to see this over the next hour or two, before we finally break away to scattered showers, santa rosa, petaluma on and off perhaps a little drizzle still remaining. but for the most part we're seeing improving conditions over the north by. santa rosa the winds 13 miles per hour. 15 san francisco. look at oakland reporting 23. gusts to 25. we saw them gustier off the coast of 30 and 35 this morning. but for the most part we're watching the gusty conditions from 20, 25 miles per hour, and they should let up when the rain lets up. giving you a look at satellite and radar, there's the back edge of the storm. and it continues to move south and east for today. so calling for rain at this

good. if you're thinking it rained every day this month, it pretty much did. we'll look at the tallies so far coming up in just a little bit. a livermore mother of three will spend the next five years in prison for having sex with underaged teen boys. 42-year-old christine hubbs pleaded no contest to four felonies for having 63 other charges dropped. she is also going to have to registered as a sex offender after her release. livermore police say she had sex with two boys when they were 14. and a man will walk free after spending 21 years in prison for murder. 43-year-old maurice caldwell was convicted of a deadly shooting more than 20 years ago. but a judge ordered a new trial for him in december. then he ruled since key evidence was destroyed, the trial could not go forward and he ordered caldwell's release. we have an update on a woman who allegedly drove into two police cars while trying to run away from officers.

police say officers tried to detain 24-year-old vanessa williams before 2 a.m. yesterday because the vehicle she was driving was wand for involvement in a grocery store robbery last week. police say williams refused to get out of the car and put her suv into reverse, ramming two police cars and a staircase. she drove away, crashed through a fence several blocks away and ran. officers caught up with her and arrested her after a brief struggle. no one was hurt. if you haven't started getting your taxes together yet, the deadline is getting close. up next, we'll talk live with the i.r.s. as fears over radiation continue, what nuclear engineers are saying about monitoring stations in california that were off line during the crisis. and let's take you outside to the bay bridge toll plaza. you can see the roads are wet. we have also been watching interstate 80, going eastbound, where a truck flipped over. we've get a few lanes open there. so be careful out there.

japan nuclear crisis. they operate the detectors including one in san francisco. but the agency now admits four were out of service for repairs or maintenance last week. and this happened when there were fears radiation could hit the united states from japan's damaged nuclear power plant. still nuclear engineers say radiation monitoring is not just up to the federal government. >> certainly large network out there than just by the epa. and should not forget that. >> they have their own radiation collector and sensors. engineers are able to collect air samples which are analyzed twice a came. the nuclear crisis in japan has raised fears about the nuclear power plant across the country and here in california. but senator feinstein says californians shouldn't worry about their safety. she just toured the two nuclear power plants in the state. hillside. this landslide happened yesterday between would you nan and hillcrest. after thursday's storm brought heavy rainfall. the slide is moving downhill, threatening homes at both the top and the bottom. officials have already red tagged one home at the top of the hill. the family living inside that home left yesterday. the walker family lives next door to the red-tagged home. they evacuated yesterday as well. just in case slide takes their home next. ali rasmus is talking with residents and wanted to check in in with her in a few minutes. people near plaz ton ridge are told not to drink tap water today after a water main broke when the hillside gave way yesterday morning. crews are working to fix the problem but that work is expected to take at least one more day. the weather cooperates this will be another clean-up day in capitola, where flooding hit the downtown area yesterday. there was so much rain, a drainage pipe near pacific cove mobile home park could not handle all the runoff and broke. that sent a two-foot high

reactors in japan. people should not worry about radiation from ships that did not travel within 50 milessan of the power plant, officials say. the navy is rushing to help cool the japanese power plant still at risk of overheating. barges are loaded with freshwater heading towards the fukashima complex. the water will be poured on the nuclear reactors inside the plant to help cool them down. japanese officials had been using salty seawater to help cool down the reactors, but are now using freshwater because of concerns about just how corrosive the seawater could be. also in japan today, a mass funeral service took place for 700 victims of the earthquake and tsunami. the service took part in a town in japan. the mass burial is considered highly unusual because custom in the country normally calls for the dead to be cremated. however, cremation centers cannot operate right now bus of oil and electricity shortages.

so this is shifting south and east and that's why areas over the north bay getting a pretty good break. if we head east you can see some pretty light to moderate rain over pacifica, seeing some heavier cells at the moment. but this will work its way out of here and we'll see scattered showers with mostly cloudy skies for the afternoon. so far, areas right around santa rosa, santa cruz mountains from half inch to 7/10. the rest of us from 3/10 to third, maybe 4/10 around napa some scattered showers in the forecast for the afternoon. we're not going to dry out completely. tomorrow we have a weaker storm moving in. our temperatures only in the mid upper 50s towards the afternoon so a lot like where we've been. and then we get the big breck and we're going to see major improvements monday into tuesday. dry conditions, temperatures sitting in the low 60s, warming into the upper 60s, low 70s by wednesday. back to you. antioch home is severely damaged after a car drives

we continue to follow a developing situation in the east bay this morning. the cracks are getting wider and four homes are still in danger of slipping away after a landslide. we do have live team coverage on stormwatch this morning. meteorologist rosemary is tracking when the rain is going to wind down. but first, we want to go to ali rasmus in san pablo, where the landslide is threatening those homes. >> reporter: good morning. we were here yesterday at afternoon, we've been here since 5 this morning.

and we have seen and heard some of the movement on this hillside for ourselves. let's show you what just happened 15 minutes ago. we heard a crack and this part of the home connected to the foundation broke away. early this morning, this was connected. now it is not. if we pan over here, 24 hours ago this brick planter was intact. now you can see it it's not. the same thing with the fence that divides this property from the home next door. this was connected less than 24 hours ago. and it is also breaking apart. now if we turn around and show you here they have the door closed but the family you can hear them packing up. they have been packing up since last night. this is the walker family home and this is one of homes that suffered the most damage from this landslide. they've been packing up since last night, and they're not the only ones affected. there are at least six homes affected by the erosion here at the top and bottom of the hill. as early as this morning, the neighbors were talking together about the situation and what they're going to do. one of holmes says they found

evidence of a natural spring underneath a hillside. and the homeowners now wonder if that may be the source of the problem. and the runoff especially with all the rain we've had, may be the source of the problem. but it is still a precarious wait and see situation for the property owners. some of them are hoping that either the city of san pablo or possibly the state or federal government can help them out, help them repair some of the damage. but they say the next step this morning is for san pablo full engineers to come out here. they're expected to be out here at noon to evaluate the soil and assess some of the damage and take the next step from there. reporting live, ali rasmus, ktvu channel 2 news. a section of highway 1 in marin is open this morning after a mudslide forced its closure for most of the day. the slide happened about 9:19 yesterday morning. highway 1 was closed in mill valley. the highway patrol says after the slide was cleared there was

that happened. when this accident happened. so -- it could have been anything. someone could have really got hurt. >> antioch police say witnesses tell them. driver of the blazer ran from the scene following that crash. also new this morning, two people are dead after two fatal crashes in the by area. the latest one happened in vacaville when a pickup truck hit a tree just before 11 les night. the man was killed and the road was closed for several hours. one person was also killed in son onlia kaine last night on mendocino in santa rosa. police say the man was struck by the car while walking down the road. an ambulance rush the man to a nearly hospital where he later died. anyone with any information on the accident is asked to call the santa rosa police department. a san francisco man will be set free after spending 21 years in prison on a murder conviction. 43-year-old maurice called well seen here as a young man. he was convicted of 1990 shooting death of a man named

jude diana acosta. a san francisco superior court judge ordered a new trial for caldwell in december but yesterday he ruled that since key evidence has been destroyed the trial could not go forward and he 4 no choice but to order caldwell released. an update to a story we first brought you on the morning news yesterday. a berkeley woman is facing several charges after hitting two police cars and an apartment building while trying to run from officers. police say officers tried to detain 24-year-old vanessa williams before 2 a.m. yesterday near stewart and sacramento streets because her vehicle was wanted for involvement in a robbery last week. she refused to get out and put her suv into reverse, ramming into two police cars, and a support column for a staircase. she drove away and crashed through a fence several blocks away and then ran. officers caught up with her and arrested her after a brief struggle. a woman will spend five years in prison for having sex with underaged teen boys. 42-year-old christine hubbs pleaded no contest last month
