good afternoon. we begin with breaking news out of hayward where police are chasing after burglary suspects. officers have cordoned off a neighborhood east of industrial boulevard and north of tennyson road in southwest hayward. they are searching around darrwin street and port smith avenue -- port smith avenue. this is video from newschopper2. witnesses say the suspects were running through backyards and knocking on doors. police believe they could be inside one of the homes. the police officer involved in the crash was not hurt. also just moments ago, we got word that a second lane is now open on westbound interstate 80 in richmond. that's where a truck crash has been tying up traffic for an hour and a half. the crash happened around 10:30 at the richmond parkway, a big

rig carrying oxygen tanks collided with a passenger vehicle. the truck caught fire but the chp says none of the tanks ruptured. and no one was injured. but the two left lanes are still blocked. this is westbound on 80 in richmond. and it could be 2:30 before things get back to normal. there's heightened concern at berkeley high school over gun violence. several weapons have been confiscated from students recently. the assistant county d.a. says armed robberies by students or or near -- on or near campus, paul chambers has more. >> reporter: good afternoon. we came to the juvenile justice center to talk to the assistant district attorney about the concerns for guns. student safety is a big deal at this school. recently there have been several

armed robberies. some think the crimes are being covered up. but this principal says, no. >> that's absolutely not true. we have our share of problems. we have to be can ditt and transparent about -- candid and everything that's -- about everything that's going on. >> reporter: two students were in a bathroom when a semi- automatic gun went off. police arrested three students and found not one but two guns. no one was injured. but that brings the number of ins dents to seven with guns being confiscated. >> i wish they would have metal detectors, more security, so the kids are safe. >> three still let people on the campus with no extra security around. >> reporter: school officials disagree saying they've hired on additional security officers as well as brought on more

enacted $11 billion in building cuts. some whom owners live -- homeowners live an a hillside in this area, and they have a constant problem with the earth giving way along the private road leading to their home. they say water and gas lines with -- have been replaced several times. >> waterline runs underground and then we have to fix it. >> reporter: some homeowners say they would like the city to fix the problem. others say it's a private road and they will have to bear the cost of fixing the pipes again. an update on a story we first brought you yesterday. the city of hercules have now declared a state of emergency. that anonymous declaration came last night in response to a serious situation tied to the

recent storms. a big landslide is threatening homes south of highway 4. the city is ordering some people to stay out of their homes others -- their homes. others can go inside but cannot spend the night. the city of hercules is didding demolishing -- considering demolishing some before the landslide crushes them. tonight, there will be a special meeting held for those residents affected by the san plan blow landslide. six homes have been yellow tagged since last thursday and hills are still very saturated. now residents are wondering who will pay for the damage and the city is considering asking for state funds. the meeting will be held at 6:00 p.m. at city hall. testimony is moving quickly in the barry bonds's perjury trial. fellow athletes finished their testimony today along with an

irs agent. tara moorery moorery -- tara moriarty has more. tara? >> reporter: well, the court is on lunch break. the testimony centered around a urine sample regarding a drug test and whether that sample was tested correctly. the most interesting part of testimony came when the defense grilled irs michael wilson. he was questioned about the government's procedure regarding that -- regarding that sample. the prosecution is saying that sample tested positive. >> well, the government has the burden of establishing that the test showed positive for the clear actually belonged to mr. bonds and that's something typically that the government

rather dark colored, meaning the fire is actively burning at this time. we also don't know where the smoke is coming from. this is a live picture from the city of alameda. smoke is burning and we will continue to look in to this and give you an update as soon as we have any more information. an early-morning fire damaged a furniture shore. it stopped -- it started just after 2:00 p.m. not far from the heyward airport. no one was inside the building and one was hurt. the sprinkler activated and prevented the flames from spreading. arson screws were checking the -- arson crews were checking the aftermath of a one- alarm fire at oscar's photo

shop. crews were able to contain the fire in about 20 minutes. there's no word on the cause of the fire or the damage estimate. earlier, texas crews battled another fire on lotten street. it started around 3:30 when swum left a stove on on an an. everybody on an apartment. everybody was quickly evacuated. >> it was very scary. when we came out, there weren't a lot of people out here. so i was worried about who was still in there. >> crews stay the fire was mostly con tined -- contained to the one area where the fire started. and we just got new information about the roll of the u.s. in the libya

one person is dead. two were injured after a fiery early-morning crash in downtown sacramento. the crash occurred at 5:45 a.m. when a vehicle lost control and fell off a freeway ramp onto interstate 5 below. investigators closed several lanes for more than two hours before the scene was cleared and the freeway reopened. federal, state and local officials gathered in richmond this morning to kick off a project they hope to transform a toxic site into environmentally-friendly homes and open space, something they say the community has been anticipating. >> and they've really been waiting and looking forward to this day when they would begin to see the clean up of the site happen and see the start of the reality for a new few -- future for this area. >> the first step is to clean up the pesticides.

officials found iodine levels 3,000 times the normal amount. they say there's still no immediate threat to health. the plant operator may spray around the plant to prevent the spread of water. and they may use clothing to prevent the release of fumes. test results were released for massachusetts and pennsylvania. california results are expected within the next few days. government officials say it's not a long-term public health concern because radioactive iodine degrades quickly. but there's one warning from virginia authorities to avoid drinking rain water out of an abundance of caution. > president obama is calling for a big reduction of oil imports as part of a broad, new

energy policy. the measures he outlined at georgetown university, includes a one-third reduction in oil, a shift to cleaning -- cleaner fuels. he said he's determined to ensure the safety of u.s. plants and he says that smarter, safer methods are in place for the expansion of offshore oil exploration. >> to keep reducing the dependence, as long as it is safe and responsible. mr.obama says his administration has issued 39 shallow water permits since the offshore moratorium. the california legislature has passed one of the most ambitious renewable energy laws
