welcome to -- to "mornings on 2." i'm dave clark. >> i'm tori campbell. we have an update on developing news in pleasant son we first told but 30 minutes ago. police say a toddler was found wandering around alone in the parking lot of the walmart on rosemont drive. we've heard the parents have made contact with the parents. they are on the way. this is the toddler. he was barefoot and wearing only a t-shirt and diaper. this is a live picture of the walmart parking lot where the boy was found in pleasanton. tara moriarty is on her way to the scene. we'll have a live report coming up. there's a big problem in san francisco at park presidio. what's going on, sal? >> that's right.

park presidio drive between clement is closed because of a power pole damaged. there was a power pole and also damage on the section of park presidio between california and clement. so that's shut down. now, southbound traffic coming out of that macarthur tunnel when you come into s an francisco, that's shut down. they are making the turn on lake street. it's quite a big mess for people leaving that macarthur ton. people leaving northbound are ring reboughted to a side street. so you have to make a side deter. it's park presidio between clement and california. we'll have more on the traffic in just a few. back to the desk.

>> sal, thank you. in other now, a landslide is swallowing up land and threatening a mobile home park community. kraig debro is live in mountain view to tell us what's going on with three families that have had to move out. good morning, kraig. >> reporter: good morning, dave. as promised, we've moved closer to the scene. you are looking at the wheels of the mobile home. had to actually saw this home in two. they are gonna take it out on two trailers. 2001 of three red tagged. i want to show you what -- one of three red tagged. i want to show you what we found last night. the result, of course, three families are evacuated.

the family says the home themselves are unsafe and red tagged them. >> on friday, when i came home last week, that's when we started to see the tags on the houses. it actually started on a wednesday, from what i hear. >> reporter: according to a published report, the mobile home park owns the vehicle creeks. so the money for this would have to come from the homeowner. reporting live from mountain view, kraig debro, ktvu channel 2 news. >> thank you, kraig. the city of san pablo is getting closer to declaring a state of emergency. this is in response to the landslides that have forced people out of their homes. at least six homes were affected and right now it's considered unsafe to live in

two of those homes. by declaring a state of emergency, the city will have access to government funds and can start to rebuild. in capitola, crews are working around the clock to repair a broken pipe. last night, a pipe burst and so far the damage is estimated at $10 million. but the number is expected to rise. so far, crews don't have a time line on repair work. but people are hoping a new pipe will be in place before more rain hits. as the sun comes up, union city police will expand their search for a missing at-risk teenager who dispeered last night -- disappeared last night. last night, the search for kenny stevenson turned up nothing. he say he's angry after arguing

with his mother about homework and grades. >> by still have officers out in the area right now conducting -- we still have officers out in the area right now conducting a searches, with the flashlights, keeping an eye out. >> the search included a chp helicopter. they are passing out fliers. police say kenny is considered at risk because he was not wearing much clothing on. he just had on green gym shorts and sneakers. he's diagnosed as as berger syndrome -- asberger syndrome. the barry bonds's trial resumes in san francisco today in about 90 minutes. prosecutors plan to call three more witnesses. they are bonds's former

orthopedic surgeon, his former personal shopper and a drug- testing expert. >> this is the case where the defense is fighting tooth and nail every point and are putting on these witnesses which tend to be dry. >> yesterday, randy valardi testified that bonds's trainer gave him injections. he was the fourth and last player to testify for the prosecution. you can get updates on the bonds's trial any time by going to ktvu.com. just click on "the bonds's trial" tab. sal, newschopper2, very busy this morning. what's going on. >> that's right we're looking at the closure between park presidio boulevard between clement and california. this is because someone hit a light pole, one of those you see there. well, apparently one of them is unstable and they don't want of those to come down.

those things are really, really heavy. they could -- they are very heavy and, quite frankly, could till you if they came down. police are being very cautious. this is state route 1. it may also be a caltrans issue. we're trying to figure it out. but for now, you can see northbound park presidio is making a turn, southbound as well, coming out of the macarthur tunnel. you should use another way to the golden gate bridge unless you happen to be going to the area. let's take a look at the toll plaza. about a five-minute delay. the bridges look fine. if you are going to the south bay, so far about only slow traffic that we see that's

significant is on highway 87 heading northbound into downtown san jose. let's go to steve. if you're on peninsula, i'm going to need your help. you can tweet me at spweather or e-mail me because there's a 10-degree spread. i have seen some low 6 -- i've seen some low 60s. if you are heading on 101 or whatever and check that and see, does it really go from 60, 61 or 50, 52? that's the spread on the peninsula. it's warm. some of the tweets, it already feels like a warm summer morning. it does. low 60s. it's been a warm week. we had a couple of low 70s yesterday. today there will be 80s all over the place. sunshine and warm weather. i mean, compared to last week, remember last week we had the big storm last week at this time. one week ago, i was on twitter for like four hours giving you all the updates.

baseball open their season. the giants will play the dodgers of los angeles tonight. how far, you can still go to san francisco's at&t park and watch the game on the big screen if you're willing to pay $45. the money raised will go to charity. and giants' pitcher barry zito says he will be with the team for the opener. barry zito was released from a los angeles hospital after being hurt in a cash crash last night in west hollywood. police have not given us details about the crash but they say zito was not seriously hurt and was not at fault. cal baseball players are counting down the hours about whether this team will survive another year. this could be the last due to budget cuts. they are trying to raise enough money to keep the program going. they need $10 million. they've raised $9.5 million so

blamed the anti-government protests on a foreign conspiracy. ten u.s. sailors are recovering after the engine of a ship blew up. four of the sailors were rushed to the u.s. naval center in san diego. other sailors had to be treated for burns. the pilot of the jet fighter was not hurt. we still don't know why the engine blew up. california community colleges plan to slash enrollment and eliminate classes to deal with more funding cuts. the 112-community college system faces a 10% drop in funding. that's $800 million less than was allocated for the current school year. college frills could be forced to -- officials could be forced to cut enrollment by 400,000 students and drop thousands of classes around the state. they have no idea how much money they will get from the

state. a school district trustee could be forced to resign depending on the outcome of an investigation. the alameda county district attorney's office wants to know if he lied about being a fremont president to keep his position -- president to keep his position. he's claiming -- resident to keep his position. he's claiming a different address. california schools may face tremendous budget cuts. public service may lose up to $1,000 per student, 30 days of school and possibly face bankruptcy.

students in the mount diablo school district may have to take extra days off this spring because of state budget cuts. the teachers' union voted yesterday to take three furlough days in may. the money saved is expected to go toward maintaining library, music and physical education programs. there's hollywood romance in san rafael, where crews are shooting a movie about ernest hemingway and martha gel horn. scenes were shot at st. vincent's school for boys yesterday. the hbo movie stars collide owen and nicole kidman. it's-- clyde oen and nicole kidman. we're hearing about broken radiation monthers just now being -- monitors just now being fixed. why there's concern about our radioactive power plants.

welcome back. 7:23. theirs rising pressure on japan to expand the evacuation zone around the nuclear power plant. the international atomic agency says japan should extend the zone to 12 miles after detecting signs of radiation contamination. here in california, there's real concern that a radiation alert system just wasn't completely functioning during the japanese nuclear crisis. monitors set up in los angeles, san bernardino and san diego

were offline along with several others in the u.s. 7:23. scientists at uc berkeley are conducting their own tests on bay area water, milk and grass. the tests confirm trace radioactive particles from japan can be detected in bay area reservoirs in the soil and in the grass. since cows eat the grass, the radioactivity is showing up in milk. >> it's extremely small impact, if you drink the milk, even the last 40 days.

time now, 7:24. well, we get to talk about traffic and sal, you've got a lot of things going on. >> yeah, we do. we do have a lot of problems. one of the biggest is in san francisco's richmond district. we have a closure of park presidio between clement and california and the traffic on southbound park presidio, the macarthur tunnel leading away from the golden gate bridge is being turned at lake. northbound traffic is allowed to get on park presidio after you pass california. northbound traffic is -- there's a detour northbound at clement. this is one of those areas you may want to avoid. some of those side streets will be unusually heavy. this is all because of an earlier crash that damaged a light pole. police say it's unsafe to drive on a particular part of the area because of the damaged power pole. you don't want debris coming

down on your car and neither do police. the westbound bay bridge is backed up for about a 15-minute delay of looks like we lost the picture. northbound 17, there was an earlier stalled vehicle at the summit. the slow traffic there is gonna be pretty bad this morning in the santa cruz mountains. the rest of the commute is okay. let's go to steve. 7:25. snipe. temperatures really mild for -- sunshine. temperatures really mild. it's the chamber of commerce day, wake up the photographer. he needs to go out there and take pictures on the last day of march. record highs will be lurking today.

here's a picture of the little boy right there. tara moriarty is at the police station in pleasanton with this toddler. we'll hear from tara in just a couple of minutes. 7:30. the american red cross is offering help to the eight families living near a landslide in hercules. the red cross is offering shelter, supplies and health services. a huge wall of mud has forced four families out of their homes on carson street. on tuesday night, the hercules city council declared a local emergency. >> a pipeline that ruptured beneath a pittsburg road is fixed. it created a sinkhole on railroad avenue and el camino drive. the work was completed late last night. all roads have now reopened. no one in the area lost water service as a result of the rupture. and a landslide is causing

an even bigger issue. kraig debro will have more information in about a half hour. when emergency crews from san francisco responded to last september's san bruno explosion, their analog radios would not connect with san mateo crew. so next month, the two counties will begin to test digital radios. a pleasanton family is mourning the death of a soldier who died in afghanistan. army specialist jamieson lindskog was killed on tuesday. he was tending to wounded men when his unit was attacked. the 4-year-old was due to be

at $106 a barrel as gadhafi takes back a libya oil port. warren buffett said he was totally surprised by the resignation of the man expected to replace buffett when he steps down at brookshire hathaway. but the 80-year-old oracle of omaha said he did not try to talk him out of resigning either. the american economy is growing faster than almost every other country, it seems. but fewer jobs are being created. analysts say that's because americans have become so much more productive. but that's making it harder for people without a job to get one now. the u.s. growth rate is right behind canada. pg&e saw their overall

company will end their campaign today. 10% of profit from the stores are go to the tsunami and the realty company is matching the amount raised. the vintage wine bar is donating 25% of its total sales. this morning, s an francisco's police chief will publicly respond to the drug evidence scandal. yesterday, a judge dismissed marijuana trafficking allegations against a drug suspect after finding a videotape. the judge says that tape contradicts the reports from the three officers who searched the suspect's richmond district apartment. last night, district attorney, george gascon, issued a statement, saying he took immediate action when the first allegation surfaced. but he says this latest case is different. he says in this latest instance we disagree with the court's finding and have ordered the transcript to review our appellate options. so far the police scandal has led to the police scandal of 76

cases, mostly involving drugs. a napa state hospital patient accused of sexually assaulting a nurse will not face jail time. 30-year-old jesus hernandez tovar was found mentally incompetent to stand trial. police say he beat the nurse and tore off her clothes earlier this months -- this month. a judge has ruled she should be sent back to the mental hospital. 7:48. just a little while ago at the kennedy space center in florida, the crew of the space shuttle "endeavour" talked about their upcoming mission which will be the last for them. the commander is mark kelly. he, of course, is the husband of wounded congresswoman, giffords, shot in the head in arizona in january. he's waiting for the doctors to tell him if his wife will be well enough to attend the

last night on "american idol" contestants sang the hit songs of elton john. last week the judges used their only save of the season to keep abrams there from being ealmost nateed. that means tonight -- eliminated. that means two contestants will say bye-bye to the show. and people in mountain house have their fingers crossed, hoping she will survived. the young lady, the 16-year- old, is among the youngest contestants. every wednesday night her hometown fans hold watch parties. last night's performance of "daniel" impressed her supporters, who quickly got on the phone and voted for the young identifysh -- the young idol. >> and support for her can be found all over her town.

"mornings on 2" continues now. welcome back. i'm tori campbell. >> i'm dave clark. it's thursday, march 31st. we continue with developing news, new information right now coming from pleasanton where a little boy was found wander erg the streets alone -- wandering the streets alone in the parking lot of the walmart on rosemont drive. tara's there. the police have found the child's mother, is that correct? >> reporter: that's correct. we're happy to report that the mother contacted the police department here in pleasanton and they will be reunited very soon, sometime this morning. we're not sure exactly when. currently the child is in

protective services. this story could have had disastrous consequences. we do have a happy ending. let's show you a picture of the child taken by police when they first arrived on the scene around:00 in the morning. police turned the toddler over to child protest -- protective services around 4:30 after he was found wandering alone in the walmart parking lot off rosemont. he was only wearing a t-shirt and diapers. so police gave him some clothes. here's the crazy apartment. . the child got out of the apartment where he lives across the street from walmart and he had to cross four lanes of traffic and police tell us that he simply walked out of the front door. >> it's an 88 compliant and the deadbolts were on and the child was able to do that and get out. >> now, a manager -- manager at the walmart discovered the boy when he went out on his break and called 911. the boy was in very good

the man at this yellow-trimmed house here, he has this house, he owns it. he has no family nearby and is living out of a suitcase in a hotel right now. a few houses down the streets, look at this, neighbors let us view this. the family says five strong eucalyptus trees anchor the back of their home. just last week 15 feet of earth crumbled following the creek's rise. a neighbor a few feet away sayty don't believe their house is threatened. >> the big grain is over. we haven't had a grain like that since '82 and nothing happened then. so we're really not worried. >> reporter: the mobile home owns that part of the creek that's behind this property. if residents here want a

homes. the city will have access to money and they can rebuild. this morning, police told us an overnight search for 14- year-old kenny stevenson turned up nothing. they say he was distraught when he left home about 10:00 last night after an argument with his mother about homework and grades. he was last seen in the vicinity of pioneer school. >> we still have officers out there, conducting searches in the parks, in the residential area. east bay regional is aware and they still units -- they still have units in the area. police say the teen was not wearing a lot clothing. and i'm just hearing, in fact, that he's been found. this is certainly good news. he has asperger's syndrome --

caught fire off the southern california coast. four sailors were rushed to the naval medical center in san francisco. others were treated for burns. the pilot of the jet fighter was not hurt. we still don't know exactly why the engine exploded. 8:18. just within the last half hour, a former new orleans police officer was given a long jail sentence for shooting death of a man following hurricane katrina. david warren was sentenced from 25 years to life because he shot henry glover without any justification less than a week after katrina. a fellow police officer will be sentenced later today. that officer burned glover's body in a car. a third police officer convicted of filing a false police report is asking for a new trial. also this morning, a judge in wisconsin handed down the ruling that a controversial new role that stripped most collective bargaining rights from state employees is not in

found the child's mother, right, tara? >> reporter: that's correct. it's really a miracle the child survived this. it could have happened a few hours later during the morning rush hour. right now, he's in child protective services. he's in custody there but he will be reunited with his mother later on this morning. a walmart manager was on his break when he discovered a 2- year-old in the parking lot. police gave him some clothes when they found him. initially, he was only wearing a t-shirt and a diaper. authorities say the child and mother live across the street in the apartment and somehow the child was able to open the front dear and -- front door and walk out. >> we received a call from the mother saying her child was missing and she lives in the apartments across the street. >> reporter: so the child

the federal courthouse in san francisco. and prosecutors are moving more quickly than anyone expected. they plan to call three more witnesses. bonds is accused of lying to a grand jury when he tested that he never knowingly used steroids. ktvu's claudine wong is outside the courthouse and she'll have a live update for us in just a few minutes. a pleasanton family is mourning the death of a soldier who died in afghanistan. army specialist jason -- jamison lindskog was killed on tuesday. he was a medical technician and he was tending to wounded men when his unit came under fire. the 22-year-old was due to be discharged next year. he's the first native of pleasanton to die in combat. the american red cross is offering help to the ate a families living -- eight families living near a landslide in hercules. a huge wall of mud has forced

the families out. on tuesday, the city council declared a local emergency. 8:33. good news. a pipeline that burst underneath a road in pittsburg has been fixed. this happened yesterday afternoon causing a big sink on railroad avenue and el camino drive. newschopper2 was flying over the watchth crews. the-- watching the crews doing the repair work. all of the roads are opened and no one in the area lost their water service. emergency crews in san francisco and san mateo working to improve the communication between their counties. when the emergency crews in san francisco responded to the gas explosion in san bruno last year, their analog radios could not effect with san mateo radios. some of the other bay area cities are a little concerned

about the technology. they say it has some coverage gaps and they say it won't work inof buildings. a clayton family is thankful despite losing their home inned -- their home and two dogs to a fast-moving fire. a 17-year-old was asleep in his bedroom when the fire started at the house on south brook drive. he told fire crews he doesn't know why he woke up when he did. but once awake, he smelled smoke and was able to escape through a window. neighbors say the fire spread lick i -- quickly. if it happened at night, they are convinced someone who have died in the flames. the cause remains under investigation. a napa state hospital patient accused of sexually assaulting a nurse will not face jail time. the 30-year-old, jesus hernandez tovar, was found mentally incompetent to stand trial. police say he beat the nurse and tore off her clothes and the judge has ruled that he should be sent back to a mental institution. a hearing on where he will be sent is scheduled for next
