steve, right now traffic on richmond bridge is nice. leaving marin and going into marin county that commute hasn't picked up yet. the morning commute is going to be okay on 24 that is getting a bit more crowded. 6:00, let's go back to the desk. all right. time now 6:00. today could be the main event in the barry bonds perjury trial. barry bonds himself could take the witness stand in his own defense. ktvu's tara moriarty joining us live right outside the courthouse now in san francisco. good morning, tara. >> reporter: good morning. there are a couple of people who could take the stand for the defense. the most interesting of whom of course is barry bonds. others that we could see testify harvey shields, bonds' stretching trainer, and laura es in, bonds' business attorney. we could hear from three to six witnesses on the defense side. one of the most interesting developments came from the judge yesterday. she is actually considering dismissing one of the five charges pending against bonds. and whether she will strike some of the material presented

by prosecutors. that would include the portion of ex-mistress' testimony where she talks about bonds' testicle shrinking. bell admitted that she did exaggerate about it to the grand jury back in 2003. now the judge also threw out a just discovered seven year old audiotape. and on it bonds' former business manager recorded a conversation with bonds' orthopedic surgeon, dr. ting. hoskins said he talked to ting 50 times about bonds' alleged steroid use. ting flatly denied that on the stand. the judge said the audio was barely intelligible. so she tossed it out. that of course was a big blow to the prosecution. now, today, the defense really wants to grill steve hoskins again about a portion of those secret tapes that we haven't heard yet. a part they say proves that hoskins was trying to extort money from bonds. the defense says it will take only one day to wrap up its case. and then of course this will be in the jurors hands come tomorrow. live in san francisco, i'm tara moriarty, ktvu channel 2 news.

all right. our time is 6:02. in just a couple hours from now testimony will also resume in the trial of two men accused of killing oakland journalist chauncey bailey. this morning the defense will continue cross-examination. he claims his boss at your black muslim bakery, yusuf bey the fourth ordered him to kill bailey in july 2007. however under cross-examination yesterday he waiverred when asked about been given a direct order by yusuf bey. macoya caused of driving the get away car. time now 6:03. emergency crews are still on the scene of a three-alarm fire in san francisco's tenderloin neighborhood. you are looking live outside there. you can see the fire trucks still on the scene in front of that building on fire watch. that fire started shortly after -- or shortly before rather 9:00 last night on taylor and eddy streets. six people were sent to the hospital mostly for smoke inhalation. investigators say the fire started on the first floor of

the franciscan towers apartments. the flames then raced up the garbage chute right up to the top floor of the six story building. the red cross is helping to provide shelter for dozens of people forced out of their homes. it's still not clear how that fire started. but we are going to have a live update from the scene coming up at 6:30. san raphael police are warning young girls about a suspicious man in the area. police say there have been several reports of incidents where young girls have been approached by a man offering them a ride to san francisco. that man is described as hispanic in his 40s, bald with short hair on both sides of his head and a mustache. his car is described as a white mazda pickup or white suv. anyone with information is asked to call police. a man suspected in a string of unsolved robberies around palo alto is in jail this morning. police arrested the 18-year-old on monday night. investigators say holmes approached a group of people sitting in a parked car and demanded cash and then took off after the victims told him they didn't have any money.

police say they arrested holmes a short time later. found a fake gun and gloves nearby. they're now looking into whether he's responsible for other street robberies. time now 6:04. some san francisco businesses may soon get a break from the city's payroll tax. the board of supervisors gave first approval to a deal designed to keep twitter from leaving san francisco. now twitter threatened to move down the peninsula where it could expand. critics say its corporate welfare, but supporters say this will help bring new life to the mid market and tenderloin areas. >> this really will have potential to truly impact midmarket in a way i think our city's wanted to see for decades. >> it's now set us up for having this exact same discussion with other companies in other districts who also are going to wonder why are they not getting their fair share. >> now if supervisors give their final approval next week, businesses in those areas won't have to come up with the money for the city's payroll tax on any new hires for at least six years. a plan to put up parcel tax

measure before voters in oakland may be at risk. last night the city council failed to push through an emergency declaration that would have cleared the way for a special city election. council members who voted against it cited open government rules saying it wasn't enough public notice. mayor quan is asking for a special meeting later this week. oakland faces a $46 million budget shortfall. while there is still no agreement between democrats and republicans on capitol hill. this is just three days ahead of a potential government shutdown. president obama is expressing frustration with congressional leaders. coming up at 6:15 we'll have a live report from washington d.c. with the impact a government shutdown could have on you. time now 6:06. the f.a.a. is ordered some high- technology testing for certain older boeing 737 jets. now this move comes after a southwest airline 737 jet was force today make an emergency landing last week because it had a hole in its roof.

the ntsb says cracks developed on the 737's lap joints. boeing says it didn't expect to see any cracks in those planes for many more years. giants fan bryan stowe of santa cruz remains in a coma this morning after being beaten outside dodgers stadium. ktvu channel 2 reporter kraig debro is live now with more on a fundraiser that's happening today. kraig. >> reporter: good morning. the fundraiser's going to be here at amr in san jose. that's because that's where he works as an emt. stowe was injured last thursday during the season opener following the dodgers-giants game. he was with two friends in the parking lot after the game. two men described as people wearing dodger gear came up behind the trio of men. one person hit bryan stowe. he fell and then hit his head. today is one of many fundraisers that are being held for bryan stowe and his family. the giants have announced they've raised $10,000 and they're going to honor stowe before the game on friday which

will be the giants home opener. joining me now is an emt here at amr. come on in, david. what's going to be happening this afternoon? >> this afternoon we have a barbecue fundraiser going on for anybody that comes here. you're welcome to come on down. we've got grilling on the barbecue. we have some baked goods. we have some items that have been donated to auction off. both in live auction and silent auction. i believe we also have an auction online which could be the silent auction. and just trying to get as many people down here to help donate as much money to make sure that bryan and his family are taken care of. >> reporter: is it difficult for you? your emts you see this type of thing all the time but now it's a friend of yours facing this difficult medical condition. how do you stay emotionally attached and then detached at the same time? >> i think this fundraiser going on today has helped us kind of have something else to focus on. you know we do see things like this all the time and it's very surreal to have it happen to

someone that you know let alone someone that you're close to. so all of us are very close to bryan. he's very well loved here. the company and the community have been extremely supportive of him and his family. and we're just really trying to focus on doing what we can to make sure they're taken care of. >> reporter: david, a friend of bryan stowe's and also an emt here at amr. learned recently yesterday that bryan stowe actually texted a relative during the game and said it was scary at the game. and i've learned from david as well that there are hecklers behind him during the game. police have composite sketches of two suspects they are looking for. live in san jose, kraig debro, ktvu channel 2 news. time now 6:09. tomorrow cal train could approve a plan that would have riders paying more and would have fewer trains operating. right now cal train runs 86 weekday trains and 64 weekend trains. but the cost cutting schedule that has now been tentively approved would eliminate ten of

the weekday trains, close three stations and increase fare and parking fees. cal train faces a $30 million budget gap in the coming fiscal year. time now 6:09. with the cars and trains are doing out there now. sal, what do you see? we're doing pretty well, dave and claudine. right now traffic is moving along nicely in most areas. let's go out and take a look at the new terminal at sfo though. this used to be the old international terminal. then they opened up the new international terminal years back. and this terminal stood empty. well, now, it has been retrofitted and it is one of america's greenest airport terminals. it will reopen officially today with a ceremony and ktvu will be there for mornings on 2. it's really beautiful inside. and it will house virgin america airlines and also american airlines. and, again, ktvu will be live there this morning with tom later on. let's move along and take a look now at the commute on the other side of the bay.

it looks good here in oakland on 880 north and southbound. it is nice drive up to the downtown oakland area and no problems heading south to the san mateo bridge. this morning's commute is also okay in san jose northbound 280 getting up to highway 17. so we're off to a nice start. i'm afraid it probably won't stay this way for much longer. but i think you have your window to go now if you go soon. 6:10. let's go to steve. sal, i'm hearing great new food choices at the terminal as well. >> i know. you should go. it's nice. >> i will. thank you, sir. look forward to that with tom. our forecast today has sunshine for a while. by tonight we'll see clouds starting to move in. i mean later today i should say. but mostly sunny, cooler and windy. much colder tomorrow. much colder. we'll see 50s, showers popping up. light rain. it will be windy. snow in the mountains. this will be dramatic drop for temps. 50s very cool 50s. rain will be moving south. giants opener will be windy and cool more than anything else as

temperatures stay in the 50s. there's going to be a pretty good north breeze coming down. that's going to give us a no doubt about it chill. the system the one that went by yesterday didn't have much but did give us cooler air mass. we're waiting for the next one to come in. there it is. it's getting closer. light rain believe it or not being reported crescent city even though there's not much there. just shows you that system and temperatures in the 40s there. we have low 40s for us. napa at 41. santa rosa 42. livermore 42. redwood city holding steady at 44. 47 san jose. concord starting off at 44 degrees. sunny 60 but windy at times. clouds should be inches closer as we get towards the late afternoon hours. not much wind yet. most locations are calm. concord south at 3. fairfield south-southwest at 3. and even sfo west at 7. santa rosa had a north wind at 13. but now they say calm. a little northwest down in san jose to 5. there's not much there but there's a lot up here. that's in the form of a lot of

cold air. this is not a big rain system. maybe next weekend of next week is looking very wet believe it or not. ten day outlooks bullish for rain at the end of next week. this system has extremely cold air with it and it's going to go right over land. it doesn't have a lot of punch for us. get some pretty good snow briefly to the area and also chias that. .05 possible thundershowers, but mid-50s on the highs and very low snow levels on friday morning. it will be sunny today. the wind will start to pick up especially along the coast and higher elevations. it will be a cooler day. so 50s and 60s for your temps. might be an isolated 70 but there will be a lot of 60s all the way to santa cruz and morgan hill. big news tomorrow cloud it up, colder, windy, off and on showers, possible thundershowers and early friday morning. mainly friday afternoon will be colder and windy. saturday morning some critical minimums. if there's no wind at all we could see some temperatures near freezing but sunny and partly sunny on sunday. time now 6:13. time is running out. we are headed towards a possible government shut down.

well, good morning to you. welcome back. time now 6:16. the chances of a government shutdown are increasing by the minute as congress remains deadlocked over a new federal budget. ktvu's allison burns live in our washington d.c. newsroom

with the very latest on those negotiations and potential consequences. allison. >> reporter: dave, democrats and republicans seem to be digging in their heels. with two and a half days left before a potential government shutdown, we are taking a closer look here at what it could mean for you, the consequences could be significant. your tax refunds and passport applications could be delayed. most federal government offices and facilities like national parks will be closed. and a large number of federal workers who don't perform what are considered essential services will be sent home without pay. on capitol hill the chairman of the committee that manages house operations is handing out this guide detailing how congressional staffers will be impacted. some are accusing him of playing politics. >> this is a guidance in case we have the worst case scenario. this is not a suggestion in any way we're hoping or planning to have a shut down of the government. it is the prudent thing to do. >> reporter: president obama's

calling on lawmakers to act like grown ups and reach a deal. but they're reportedly stuck on issues like cuts to pell grants and farm subsidies. republicans want bigger permanent cuts. reporting live from washington d.c., allison burns, ktvu channel 2 news. time now 6:17. rebel fighters in libya are demanding more air strike support from nato. a rebel leader says nato air strikes aren't as effective as french, british and american fighter jets they replaced. in recent days troops loyal to moammar gadafi have forced rebels to retreat. we're getting a first look at one of the libyan cities that was the scene of fierce fighting between government troops and rebel forces in the first weeks of the conflict. this is what it looks like now. when rebel forces occupied the city they destroyed the police station. troops loyal to moammar gadafi have retaken the city. a standoff at ivory coast

may be ending this morning. troops loyal to the country's newly elected president are now storming the residence of the former leader. said to be holed up inside of a bunker there. he's refused to step down after losing last year's presidential election. several hundred people have been killed in the fierce fighting between the rival forces. 6:18 as you head on to the roads sal is watching those for you. sal, how are things looking? not too bad, claudine. right now traffic is moving along pretty we larn the bay area. we're getting a bit more of a crowd at the bay bridge toll plaza. it's not a big crowd. but you can tell things are beginning to change a little bit. those metering lights have been switched on and the traffic is going to be okay on the bridge once you get on it. also the morning commute is okay in san francisco along northbound 101 coming up on to the 80 split traffic looks good into downtown. and if you're driving in the south bay and looking at the maps here there's a little bit more color here and there

especially on highway 17 heading up to 85 you will see traffic there. 101 still looks good. 6:19. let's do to steve. sal, thank you, sir. clear skies. little chill out there. it's only going to get colder hire by tomorrow with 50s. now today will be sunny for a while. but the wind will pick up. first system went by that's long gone. but the next one's inching closer. increasing clouds from that later on today. 41 napa. 42 santa rosa. 42 livermore. redwood city 44. lots of 40s. san raphael at 45. and our system is diving south. and as it does it's bringing with it a lot of cold air. so today will be sunny. but it will be windy along the coast. maybe also at sfo. and some of the higher elevations blustery day now increasing clouds will come in later. but highs will only be in the 60s or 50s. 50 by the coast. already gust to 35 miles an hour out at point ray's lighthouse. starting to come down out of the northwest. 60s for many today. again, could be an isolated 70. i think too much cool air is in place and it's only going to

get colder here. sunny day but getting windy. much colder under cloudy to mostly cloudy skies thursday with off and on light rain and really cold air settles in on friday. if there's any available moisture we'll have low snow levels. there will be snow in the mountains. it should clear by friday morning. and by friday afternoon you're heading to the giants game i would lean on windy and cold more than any rain. saturday will be okay but saturday morning could be very cold in some wind protected areas. claudine and dave. 6:20. this morning twitter is getting back to normal after service disruptions yesterday. the site announced it was going retro and using an older version of the website to some users. others were unable to access that site at all. now last month twitter did move its infrastructure to a utah facility which has been plagued with problems. so operations were then reroute today one in sacramento. twitter isn't saying when it will be back to using new twitter. a joint solar project between stanford and uc berkeley is getting a $25 million grant from the federal government. a san jose company svtc technologies received a similar

grant. the money comes from the energy's department sun shot initiative which is looking for ways to reduce the cost of solar power by 75% before 2020. time now 6:21. the number of american teenagers who get pregnant has reached a 70 year low according to new federal government figures. 410,000 girls between the ages of 15 and 19 had babies in 2009. and that translates to 40 teenagers out of every 1,000 who gave birth that year. in 1991 the rate was 70 out of every 1,000. so the number has dropped 37%. however, the teen birthrate is still nearly nine times higher than most other developed nations. time now 6:22. san bruno residents are speaking out and the heartbreaking stories they are telling to change the way pipelines are tested. also there's hope this morning for profootball fans. how some big nfl stars may help end the lockout. good morning.

good morning. right now traffic approaching the bay bridge all of a sudden is getting more crowded. you can see in those middle lanes we're getting a little bit of a crowd.

the metering lights have come on and that's why we're getting a little bit of a back up. all right. time now 6:25. firefighters are watching a wild fire near fort collins, colorado. so far 15 homes have been destroyed. high winds last night prompted about two dozen evacuations. now the fire out there's been burning since friday. so far it's only 15% contained. time now is 6:25. victims of the san bruno explosion are getting the chance to tell their stories to the people in charge of making changes. >> there's nothing left to the house. it disintegrated. >> last night the california public utilities commission held a five hour hearing to start drafting new natural gas pipeline rules. they heard testimony from san bruno residents who called for improved pipeline tests and for substantial fines for pg&e who they say failed to inspect the aging pipeline. >> when the national transportation safety board

investigation is complete, when the public utility commission's investigation is complete, find pg&e being held accountable. >> sacramento lawmakers are also getting involved in the call for increased regulation. yesterday state committee passed automatic or remote controlled shutoff valves on all pipelines in areas. and all pipelines that cross active fault lines. next the bill will go to the senate appropriations committee for a vote. time now 6:27. new hope possibly for pro- football fans this morning. a federal judge may decide today whether to grant a preliminary injunction to end the nfl lockout. tom brady, drew brees, peyton manning, other star players have all filed a lawsuit designed to lift the owner- imposed lockout. now if the ruling could be the first breakthrough since talks between the nfl owners and the players broke off almost a month ago. time now 6:27. two richmond police officers on paid leave. why they reportedly purchased

good morning to you. welcome back. this is the ktvu morning news wednesday april 6. i'm dave clark. >> and i'm claudine wong. pam cook has the day off. time now is 6:30. well, in san francisco right now the red cross very busy finding new places to live for more than a hundred people chased out of their homes by a fire in the tenderloin district. ktvu's jade hernandez is out there right now with the very latest on what's happening. good morning, jade. >> reporter: good morning.

111 residents are without a place to stay this morning. no one is being allowed back into the franciscan towers. it's the apartment complex that caught fire last night. 22 residents also suffered smoke inhalation and were taken to the hospital. but within the last hour we witnessed a search for two missing cats. the american red cross shed a light on to the fourth floor this morning and we watched as firefighters brought out the two found cats and brought them to their owners. we've learned 6-year-old josie and 8-year-old my you my you survived this three alarm fire. >> the firefighters didn't find them. they went up once and couldn't find them. then one of the red cross ladies went upstairs and she found them. they were exactly where we said they were. >> reporter: and where they were were inside the apartment. now this fire broke out around 9:00 last night. the american red cross is still out here this morning. they transported 63 people to nearby hotels by way of a muni

bus. 26 people with special needs are being housed right now at a special facility through the tenderloin neighborhood development group which owns the franciscan towers. and as i mentioned earlier, 22 residents suffered smoke inhalation. but no life threatening injuries. those 22 residents are at the hospital right now. this fire broke out at 9:00 last night at 201 eddy. it's a six floor apartment building with 75 apartments. right now the cause of this fire is unknown. but we have learned from the fire department it started in the garbage chute and crawled all the way up to the top floor. in fact there was a flare up on the roof around 4:00 this morning. and that's why firefighters have been on fire watch all morning. reporting live, jade hernandez, ktvu channel 2 news. time now 6:32. this could be a big day in the barry bonds perjury trial. bonds could take the witness stand. defense lawyer alan ruby made that surprise statement late yesterday while leaving the federal courthouse in san francisco. ruby said it's possible bonds could be the only person who takes the witness stand for the

defense. ktvu's tara moriarty will have a live update from the courthouse coming up at 6:45. a giants fan remains in a coma after being attacked outside tongers stadium. now the 42-year-old paramedic from santa cruz is getting some assistance from colleagues in san jose. ktvu's kraig debro is live now with more on what's being planned for today. good morning, kraig. >> good morning. claudine. the people that know bryan stowe tell me that he is nonconfrontational. they say he runs away from conflict. so they say there's absolutely no way that bryan stowe could have provoked this at all. even if that was the case take a look at some of the ambulances that the paramedic rises from time to time. police are looking for suspects in this case as co-workers look out for his family. expressing their feelings for the injured man right on some of their ambulances. he has a wife and two children and health insurance. but according to the people with whom stowe works the

fundraiser this afternoon which starts at noon and others like it will give stowe's family a little peace of mind in the middle of the this violent tragedy. >> all of us are very n. he's very well loved here. the company and community have been extremely supportive of him and his family. we're really trying to focus on what we can do to make sure they're taken care of. >> reporter: santa cruz man was with two of his friends during the attack. they weren't seriously injured. and it's not just co-workhorse are helping out. the giant haves announced a $10,000 donation to stowe's fund that will honor him before friday's home opener. coming up on mornings on 2 we'll have more information for you about that fund and how you can get involved. reporting live in san jose, kraig debro, ktvu channel 2 news. richmond's police chief issued a statement after two police officers were placed on paid leave accused of buying handguns for local teenagers. the chief called the

allegations troubling. he says the need to investigate police misconduct is necessary to ensure public trust. now officers danny harris and ray thomas are accused of recruiting teenagers from the department's youth program, hiring them for a private security company and giving them handguns. >> basically purchased it for us. we were under the age of 21 at the time. >> they were two of 18 richmond explorers recruited to patrol high crime areas. after a falling out with their bosses, officer harris tried to set him up to get a dui. they say the officers are still running their private security firm. the two officers have filed discrimination cases against the police department, but we have not been able to reach the department for comment. well, jury deliberations could start today in the sanity phase of the trial for the accused hillsdale high school bomber. the two day hearing ended yesterday with three experts

testifying that alex was legally sane during that 20309 attack. last week a jury convicted him of six felonies including attempted murder. if he is found sane, he faces life in prison. if jurors decide he is not sane, he'll be sent to a mental hospital. time now 6:35. the berkeley unified school district wants to improve school campus safety after several gun-related incidents this year. now the plan would increase the number of days a police officer is on campus. from four days a week to five. school officials are also going to consider the idea of student badges and partial closures for district campuses. berkeley police also say having security officers wear uniforms would help deter crime. there is a search underway for two men accused of robbing a convenience store at gunpoint. it happened yesterday afternoon in the 1800 block of monument boulevard. the two men walked into the store, pointed their guns at an employee and left with an unknown amount of cash. there are only vague descriptions of the men.

police say they're both african- american and six feet tall. one has severe acne. both had black hoodies and a white shirt. tonight is the first public hearing to talk about possibly raising public fares for golden gate transit buses and ferries. the proposal will increase over the next five years for buses and ferries. on the sausalito ferry increase over the next five years. lark spur go up 5% a year beginning july 1st. tonight's hearing is at whistle stop wheels in san raphael. it starts at 6:00 p.m. and it's 6:37 right now. last time sal showed us a shot of the toll plaza looked like things were getting busier. hi, sal. claudine and dave, brace yourself, it's even busier now at the toll plaza. oh my goodness. maybe i'm being a little dramatic. it's growing here. the metering lights are on and a bit of a back up.

westbound on the bridge looks good into san francisco. if you're looking for a drive time, this is about an eight minute delay before you get on to the bridge and once you get on to the bridge it's about ten minutes into san francisco. better part of a half hour anyway. move along and take a look at 101 in san francisco. looks pretty good approaching the 80 split. no major problems. today is wednesday. so on friday it's giants home opener. start putting that in the back of your mind. we're going to see a lot of traffic in the city that day. moving along and taking a look at contra costa county highway 4 westbound the traffic is busy in antioch but it's okay in concord at 680 walnut creek and 242. and if you're driving in hayward for some reason 880 northbound's a little slow after 92 getting up to 238. 6:38. let's go to steve. all right, sal, thank you, sir. we have clear skies. little cool out there. a lot of 40s. low 40s, mid-40s for many. it will be sunny. but to get your sunshine in today because everything drops

at 49 degrees. not much wind yet. but it will get there. 44 concord today and 60 at noon. and go for a high of 66. clouds will be increasing though late afternoon. buchanan's only reporting a south wind at 3. west sfo at 7 and south-southwest at fairfield 3. santa rosa did have a north at 13. now they say calm. but that will not last very long. very cold system is diving down on top of us and it will be here tomorrow for a huge change in our weather the key is that it's mainly cold and wind more than anything else. there will be some rain with it but not a lot. it's mainly tracking over land. if it tracked over water that would be a different story. so a couple one-hundredths to maybe a third of an inch but mid-50s on the highs at best. the wind will be here and cold air moves in late thursday into friday. a blustery day. it will be sunny for most of the day and then clouds increasing by this afternoon and tonight. windy on the coast. some of the higher elevations even though it's sunny it will be cooler here with 50s and 60s coast and bay. some upper 60s for some inland areas. maybe isolated 70.

well, good morning to you. welcome back. here's a quick look at top stories we're following for you right now at 6:44. well, the federal aviation administration issued the emergency order requires inspections for certain types of 737 jets. this follows the incident where southwest airlines jet hit a five foot hole open up during mid flight last week. just three days away from a possible shut down of the federal government and democrats and republicans are not even close to reaching a deal we're told. if the shut down happens, it would mean a delay in the processing of income tax returns and passports and many federal government offices would be closed. san francisco's board of supervisors took a big step towards keeping twitter in the city. they gave initial approval to a payroll tax exemption for any business in the tenderloin and midmarket areas that hires new employees. 6:45. barry bonds is due back in court in a little more than an hour and bonds could take the

witness stand in his own defense today. ktvu's tara moriarty is live outside the federal courthouse in san francisco right now. and, tara, that could certainly make for a very interesting day in court. >> reporter: oh, definitely. and the defense says that it will present its case in about two hours. and if barry bonds testifies, they say it will definitely be today. we're not sure if they're bluffing trying to throw off the prosecution. we'll have to wait and see. one thing we do know is there was a very big development yesterday the judge is actually considering dismissing one of the five charges pending against bonds and whether she will strike some of the material presented by prosecutors. now that would include the portion of exmistress kimberly bell's testimony where she talks about bonds' testicle shrinking. she admitted she did exaggerate about it in 2003. the judge also threw out a just discovered several year audiotape on it bonds' former

business manager secretly recorded a conversation with dr. ting. he says he talked to ting 50 times about bounds' steroid use. ting flatly denied it. the judge said the audio was barely audible. so she tossed it out. today the defense really wants to grill hoskins about a portion of the secret tapes we haven't heard yet. a part they say proves he tried to extort money from bonds. the defense says it will wrap up its case today. and that likely means that by tomorrow the jury will deliberate. live in san francisco. i'm tara moriarty, ktvu channel 2 news. an autopsy will be performed this week on a santa cruz county man reported missing two weeks ago. a family hiking near the river found the remains of the 58- year-old on a river bed on monday. the cause of his death has yet to be determined. but he did suffer from mental disabilities and lived in a care facility. he was reported missing by staff members after he didn't come home for dinner. time now 6:47. memorial will be held today to

looking at wall street dow up 32. nasdaq up 23. the s&p 500 up as well about 5 points. those controversial safety bonuses given to transocean executives are now going to be donated to charity. the company came under fire after it handed out over $250,000 in bonuses.
