store for opening day. >> this is ktvu channel 2 news at noon. >> good afternoon, i am john in for tori campbell. oakland police are increasing patrols after the fatal shooting of a well-known restaurant owner. it happened outside of the restaurant on international boulevard at 39th avenue. police say jesus campos was opening his restaurant when he was shot. paramedics rushed him to the hospital where he died a few hours later. investigators are looking for two suspects. oakland mayor described him as a respected, generous and beloved member of the community who had attended a merchants melting on neighborhood safety just two days ago. but more on ktvu channel 2 news at 5:00. in just minutes the oak noel navel hospital will be no more than a memory. they are set to implode it at 12:10 and we will bring that live to you but first we check in with ken pritchett at the

site. >> reporter: as you said if all goes 62 according according to plan in 10 minutes that building will come down. 800 pounds of dynamite will be used to bring down the hospital. as many say it has been in decay and been an eyesore but some say making way for progress is also painful for those who know the history of this place. construction of the hospital was completed back in 1968 and it was a premier navel hospital for 28 years. it was one of our nation's tonight prosthetic research centers serving amputee veterans. the implosion will bring cheers and perhaps some tears. can't

she worked here for years. >> it is so final. >> there will be a three minute warning, a one minute warning then a 10 second cute down countdown, then in eight seconds there will be a series of explosions and then in eight seconds it will come down. the hospital is down in a valley, which essentially protects it from any of the neighborhoods or the structures here in this area. that is the plan and about 10 minutes to bring this structure down, and as you said we will bring that to you live in oakland, ken pritchett, ktvu channel 2 news. >> inside san francisco

courthouse a jury is considering the fate of barry bonds. also the fate of his former trainer craig anderson changed for the better. we have this report. >> reporter: good morning -- good afternoon, what a day for giants fans, in less than 90 minutes the first pitch is thrown out at at&t park and behind me barry bonds possibly awaiting sword word on a verdict. he pulled up as a passenger and went in without commenting. bonds was preceded by a couple of attorneys on his defense team. the early activity began at 10:17 this morning when the court sent out an e-mail indicating a motion had been granted for the release of gregg around son. bond's former personal trainer refused to testify and was

placed in contempt of court and ordered held in jail until the end of trial. anderson might have been the spoking gun for prosecutor's pursuit against bonds. might have been, three former players testified they received steroids from him. instead they relied on ex- friends of bonds that claimed they saw him being injected, heard from bonds or heard the story from anderson. >> some issues will be there and whether they can resolve them will be the question. i don't think they all saw the case the same way. >> a prosecutor talked to bonds. here is the prosecutor, did you ever get bills, beans, did you

giant's fan beating outside of dodger stadium. he suffered seizures wednesday night. on monday at at&t park, before the beginning of the dodgers, paramedics will collect donations to help pay his medical bills. the best advice is to take public transit. this is how the toll plaza looks, not too bad. bart can take you downtown and muni can take you direct directly to the park. the countdown is about to start. let's go to ken pritchett. >> reporter: there you go, that siren from the fire department, that is the one minute warning to the implosion of this building. let's take a look at the building behind me. the oak noel hospital. it is and 11 story building.

a 597 bed navel medical hospital which closed in 1996 after 28 years of service. they will use 800 pounds of dynamite. what we understand is what we will hear is a series of explosions. we will hear a pop, pop, pop, that will be the columns as the dynamite goes off. eight seconds later the building should go down. all of this is to make way for a future residential and commercial development. this entire process has been years in the planning. asbestos was removed from this structure. when they demolish these buildings they often find asbestos, they did here -- there is our 10 second countdown so i will be quiet. let's watch what happens.

[ explosions ] [ cheers ] >> well, that is it. you can hear the cheers from the crowd. we have 100 people up here on a cliff side overlooking what is now a cloud a dust. they say it should be here for five minutes, take that long for it to settle down. it is interesting to see, it is windy up here, it is interesting to see how that, how the winds effects that cloud of dust. they say they are in a good location. this was a formal navel base. there is a lot of property around here. there are no homes or other commercial buildings within the blast area. they say they have plenty of

room to spare here. the one advantage they say is that this area is in a valley. that -- what they will do now, after the dust settles and they deem the area clear, they will begin debris removal, a lot of the concrete and steel, all that they can they will recycle as part of building a new commercial and residential development. of course if you want to see that implosion again we have it. we will have it on ktvu.com. we have multiple cameras here on scene and interviews with engineers and some of the city leaders about the importance of this project. with even talked to some of the former medical personnel who worked at this hospital, which they say was a historic building, very important in our nation's history, in terms of treating our wounded veterans as they returned from wars from world war ii, from viet nam and beyond. for now live in oakland, ken

cal train is reporting the 5th fatality this year on its tracks. a man was hit and killed near 25th avenue in san mateo at 1:00 this morning. 62 people were on board the southbound train at the time. tracks were closed in both directions for an hour but operations are back to normal now. it is unclear why the man was on the tracks. hayward firefighters are investigating a fire at a sushi rest rafnt. the fire started after 1:00

this morning at at the naked fish restaurant. firefighters reported heavy smoke when the arrived and it started in the kitchen and there were no injuries. time is running out for a budget agreement in washington before the midnight deadline. democrats say as they give in to republican demands gop leaders keep moving the bar. earlier today they said the sticking point is planned parenthood. >> title 2 does not include abortion, it is illegal to use it, so anyone who says this debate is over abortion is not being truthful. >> there is only one reason that we do not have an agreement as yet, and that is issue is spending. >> republicans are also attracting democrats for rejecting a stop gap measure, which would keep the government running for another week. it also provides funding for the pentagon for the rest of the fiscal year. democrats are pushing for their own one week extension.

>> a crash in san jose sent a chp officer to the hospital and pa man to jail. the officers what helping someone around 2:00 this morning when another car hit him. officers say that driver was arrested on suspension of drunk driving. hail and freezing rain may have played a role in that accident. cal's baseball team is ranked 13 in the nation but their biggest win came today off the field. uc berkeley announced the team has been saved. they considered eliminating baseball in a cost cutting move but supporters yesterday gave the chancellor 9 million dollars they had raised. it was one million short. >> reporter: good afternoon to you. improving conditions, sunny skies. santa rosa still dealing with cloudy skies. we have this puffy cumulus build up again because we do

>> the dynamite took down that 11 story hospital that was part of the navel base in that location. it had been an eyesore in that area for quite a while and finally is coming down as part of a big project to develop that area. this is another look at that implosion of the oak noll and what happens so quick he quickly and concisely when the engineers do their jobs like they are supposed to. asbestos and other harmful things had been taken out so that dust is not harmless. this is a book about causing pain in people and animals, one of the them is tobacco. they tried to feature cocaine
