season past no longer seem to haunt the fans and today was an extension of one more day of magic. >> we have been giants fanning forever. >> reporter: the celebration continues tomorrow when players receive their championship rings. for giants fans despite the torture the greatest show on earth is back in town. reporting live. rob roth. >> after the beating of a giants fan last week down at dodgers stadium authorities planning tighter than usual security at next week's giants dodgers series. the fans will see a lot more police officers all round the ballpark and they say there are a number of changes you can't see. coming up our david stevenson will be here with what one expert says is usually the cause of stadium violence. one business in the neighborhood around the ballpark held a fundraiser for brian stowe. the owner decided to donate 10%

of theirest receipts today's opening day crowdn. all donors and raised nearly $300,000 to help pay his medical bills. 100 paramedics will be at the park collecting donations from fans at game. it'll go to help brian stowe pay medical expenses. he is in a coma for three days after suffering seizures wednesday night. >> the juror in the bonds trial didn't reach a verdict today but they did make two requests to the judge. rita williams has been covering this since day one and is here now to tell us what happened inside and outside of court today. >> reporter: well frank what are the odds? at the same time a jury looked at the fate of bonds his former team now world champions was playing its home opener that

18 years and he worried about being a convicted felon came and went twice today at the federal building as jurors twice asked to rehear testimony. that as this former shopper saying she saw his trainer greg anderson inject him and a tape- recording of anderson talking about where he injected him. >> it was a two week trial so you wouldn't expect them to finish fast. >> reporter: and they didn't finish really fast. jurors about an hour ago went home for the weekend, they will be back here first thing monday morning to try again. reporting live in san francisco, rita williams. >> the judge in the trial today ordered bond's personal trainer to be released from jail. he has been held on contempt charges since march 22nd when the judge ordered him to jail for refusing to testify as a prosecution witness. anderson had previously spent more than a year in jail for refusing to testify for the grand juror that eventually indicted bonds. we continue to update the

. wow, we showed you that amazing scene, live here at noon today on ktvu channel 2. i was lucky enough to be about quarter mile away watching that with about a group of 30 people. just about everybody there today had their cell phone or camera trained on the old hospital site. ken pritchett is live now to give us a view that nobody else has. >> reporter: this is a live look, you will note anywhere else. up close view of what is left

of the former hospital. if you look over to my right we are looking there you can see the two columns going up. that's the floor and the ceiling of one of the floors as it fell over. even more to the right you can see the roof structure of one of the sections of this building, all of it falling in to the center as designed. this hospital has in service for 28 years, it came down in seconds. first came the thump of explosions, 800 punter pounds of dynamite blasting apart columns, then the collapse. with that came cheers from people watching. this also bred sadness. >> it was the first big facility i ever saw. just to watch it, you know, disappear is -- so final, it's so final. >> reporter: she worked at the

of the dark clouds, we have at least some rain showers to talk about. closer to mountain view, parts of the south bay and around union city right around 880 you can see the activity. we will shift up in to the north and the other cell just south of oakland and it could produce a heavy downpour. could be something where you clear skies and then this reason shower. we will continue to move the maps and you can pick out the activity. very scattered from vallejo to sonoma and sonoma county as well. here is a look at the weather story. with the clouds out there scattered clouds, we will hold on to the chance of a few showers, chilly mornings but it'll be dry so not much in the way of the threatening rain clouds. the extended forecast, one weak system that could move in to early monday morning.

woman died when her oxygen tank failed during the power outage. concerns about radiation in food let up. officials said levels have dropped in milk, spinach and other vegetables grown here near the plant. as a result they are lifting a ban on sales of those items but will restrict rice planting in areas where levels higher than limits set by food regulators. it's one of the longest running sports and now we know whether the cal baseball team will be back again next year or if it's going to be dropped. >> the united states military is noticing about its new soldiers and why they say what they are seeing different than what they have had for the past two decades.

. a new report says the quality of military recruits is at its highest in two decades. last year 99% of recruit has a high school diploma, that's up from 91% in 2006. they say part of the reason for the higher quality is a tough job market and a more stable situation in iraq. >> 30 minutes now in tucson the cal bears baseball team squares off against the arizona wild cats. the golden bears may already be celebrating after learning that the team will be back again next year. >> the university has announced that we will be continuing cal baseball and

thank you to the passion and the commitment of our community they have provided. >> reporter: after almost 120 years of play the cal bears baseball team was hit with the budget axe. the university said because of fiscal constraints this would be the team's last season. former cal players like jeff kent and stu gordon stepped up and got together $9 million to save the team. >> in a number of the communities they have become excited in a way that will serve them in the future. >> fund-raisers say more than a thousand people donated to cal baseball including jeff kent who gave $100,000. boosters must still come up with another million before cal baseball is formerly reinstated but berkeley officials sightly are confident that can going to happen. >> two americans among four

. he was just doing his job trying to help a driver in danger. then everything changed. the officer is recovering in the hospital tonight after being hit by a drunk driver while on the job. this happened in the north bound lanes of interstate 880. we are live now in san jose. >> reporter: we are here on 880 on the off ramp inside the clover leaf. cars moving slower and we feel safe, we are both wearing yellow vests but you can't predict what the car also do

and that's what officers feel every day and they hope that this morning's accident brings about more awareness. officer skyler tesh was rushed to the hospital suffering a gash to his head and a broken right leg. the chp said he was helping the driver of a chevy involved in a collision on 880 when the driver of this white lexus lost control and hit him. >> the number one killer of officers for the highway patrol is traffic. >> reporter: the roads were icy and it appears the driver steven jones lost control of his car. he was arrested for drunk driving. it brought back memoriesor ross lee. >> my head was right here. i took the bunt and went back and landed here up on the area there. >> reporter: he was struck by a car a year ago while doing a traffic stop. >> it felt like somebody tackled me, like they had a rope and yanked me back off my

feet. >> reporter: the first person who responded to his accident was officer tesh. lee said they are trained in the academy to always watch for traffic but there is only so much they can do. lee tries to pull off the freeway when he can but said passing cars can help by moving over a lane when they see an emergency vehicle with flashing lights pulled over. >> they think because we have the badge and gun and we are doing the enforcing that we are safer and you know we are at probably the most risk. >> reporter: i just spoke to chp about 30 minutes ago and they said that officer tesh was under going surgery this afternoon and they were waiting to hear how he was doing but we do know that he is in good condition at valley medical center. reporting live from san jose, ktvu channel 2news. >> health officials say they have found a rabid bat on the campus of san leandro high school. a teacher captured the bat.

it's the first rapid one found this year. last year rapid bats were found in fremont, livermore and pleasanton. >> even before today's home opener police have been looking ahead to next week's games against the dodgers. david stevenson live at at&t park with the changes in store stem figuring from the attack. >> reporter: this game is just about over but already the gain giants and police are planning for what could be three tense home games next week. the usual security measures at san francisco's park are set to be beefed up on monday when the dodgers come to town. >> there will be a significant increase in uniform people that you will notice at the ballpark. >> reporter: it's all in response to last week's beating of a giants fan outside dodgers stadium allegedly by two men in dodgers gear. a craigslist posting raised alarm yesterday about revenge

. a court judge in san diego today ruled in favor ever a progay marriage group in a lawsuit brought by target stores. they filed to prevent members of the group from asking for signatures outside target stores. the retailer said customers were complaining. the judge decided the group

could ask if they stayed 30 feet from store entrances and behaved. >> san francisco police today announced an arrest in a series of robberies at subway stores. there have been 14 robberies since last fall. police say today they took a suspect into custody. >> arrested was a suspect damon cooper, 40 years old, city resident, he was taken in to custody yesterday at his residence. >> police say they aren't releases his mug shot because he may be a suspect in other robberies as well. another person was killed on cal tran tracks this morning. caltrains said a man was hit and killed about 1:00 a.m. 62 were on board the train at time. tracks were closed in both directions for about an hour while the investigation was conducted but it was cleared up before the heaviest part of the

have been meeting almost around the clock but can't agree on spending cuts. the government has hundreds of thousands of furlough notices ready and many federal programs prepared to close. >> the waterfalls great and spring is in its full glory but by later tonight the gates to that park could close. robert honda is live where campers and staff are waiting for word now from washington. >> reporter: that is right. it has been a day of worry for visitors, first as you can see the snow started to fall this afternoon but the big worry for visitors and yosemite employees, will the park be forced to close in a matter of hours? a steady stream of visitors came to the park today but we all saw many leaving early in the day, some said they didn't want to wait to see if the budget battle would force them to rush out. >> first time to yosemite it was great but with the impending shut down of the park we decided to check out a day

early and make it out of the park. >> reporter: the family is also on a spring break vacation. they anticipated snow might be a problem. >> i didn't figure it was going to happen but if it does it would be horrible. it would be horrible but we were planning on staying the night so it would suck if it closed. >> reporter: some said they didn't even want to think about the park closing. >> don't even say that. the darn government. >> reporter: the possibility of yosemite closing scared neighboring towns. >> without yosemite this town wouldn't survive. it would be a huge, huge impact. >> reporter: how much does it depend on traffic? >> 100%. >> reporter: throughout the day visitors held out hope. >> i think they will find a remedy before midnight. >> you think so? >> i do. i don't think they will shut

the government down. >> reporter: if there is no budget yosemite will start closing at midnight and escort visitors and employees out of the park over a 48 hour period. live in yosemite, robert honda. >> we can see how it's snowing. will that snow affect make it more difficult to get some of the people out of the park if that is what they have to do? >> reporter: i think that was one reason they made it a window of 48 hours. the snow plow just came by. if the snow were to start picking up or more heavyly than it is now it could be a problem but that's why they gave themselves that 48 hour window. >> reporter: all right. thank you. government shut down could affect some federal websites but not others. the white house said the irs website would remain online but the treasurey department would not. some federal sites say they have enough left in their budgets to remain online, those

oakland. very spotty, nothing to extreme and a bit a breeze with winds from 15 to 25 miles an hour and up in the north bay as we take a look, still a little bit of coverage for santa rosa. remember yesterday we had significant thunderstorms producing widespread hail for parts of the north bay, east bay and reports down to gilroy. here is the look at the satellite and radar. quite a bit of activity on this, over the past 12 hours and the system as a whole is centered near san luis ob isp o. the bulk of the shower moves out as well. storm moves out, showers on the decrease, this weekend will be dry with partly sunny skies, a cold front will approach mainly the north coast of california, northwest eastern coast right around eureka. that could generate a few extra high clouds, we will call it the increasing clouds for the second half of the weekend. here is the forecast model showing you the rain coverage and the rain showers and snow
