good morning, a new disaster marks a month of devastation in japan. a major after shock leads to another tsunami alert over knight. what is bringing hundreds if not thousands of people to the oakland coliseum this morning as they get something for free. today the jury in the barry bonds' perjury trial plans to take a second look at what a key witness in the trial had to say. with last years world series and what tonight's giants game will have in common. a hint at keeping fans safe. good morning, welcome to monday, april 11th i'm dave clark. >> and i'm maureen naylor. pam cook is off today. let's get a look at traffic and

weather. let's start with rosemary. >> good morning, to you. welcome back on this mopped. an unimpressive system will bring changes to our area. but no rain. we are looking at partly to mostly clouds this morning. we will be partically cloud -- we will be partly cloudy this morning. we will take a look at your temperatures outside your door this morning and what you can expect for the afternoon in a few moments. sal. all right westbound interstate 880 looks pretty good getting out to the mccarthur maze. no major problems driving out to the maze and continuing on to the bridge. also this morning we are looking at the toll plaza delay. it has not reached the level it will. let's go back to maureen and dave. thank you, sal. japan was hit with a 6.6 magnitude after shock today one month after that 9.0 quake that was followed by a deadly

tsunami. this is new video of the after shock that shows an office shaking. a tsunami warning was issued for today's after shock but canceled. there was never any tsunami warning issued for anywhere in the bay area. the 6.6 quake after shock hit in the same northeast area that has seen hundreds of after shocks since the massive one on march 11th. the japans government is expanding around the damaged nuclear plant that has been leaking radiation since the tsunami swamped its cooling systems. people living within the plants reach is now being urged to leave. after high levels of radiations were detected there. again it has been one month since the quake and tsunami struck. japan has been marking the day with somber ceremonies. here in the bay area there is a prayer vigil to remember the victims and survivors in japan.

hundreds of people are expected in san francisco's peace plaza in japan town. it begins at 5:30. time now 6:02 back here at home. several residents can't take a shower, they can't brush their teeth. they can't run the dishwasher all because of a major water main break over night. it happened at 2:30 this morning near marin avenue. look at the water at the bottom of your screen. homeowners tell us water gush # for an hour before east bay mud officials were able to shut it off. >> i was awakened by a very loud water rushing. i looked out and saw water coming down both sides of my house. >> homeowners were told they will be without water for eight hours today. they also tell us this is the second time a water main has broke down in that neighborhood in the past week. your time is 6:03. >> the giants and the dodgers

begin a three-game series at at & t park tonight and security wise it's going to look a lot like the world series. there will be extra security on hand to help prevent retaliatory attacks after the beating of brian stow. stow as you know was attacked after the giants season opener in los angeles last month. he's still in the hospital recovering from a skull fracture. jade hernandez is at at & t park. jade will have much more on the security efforts coming up for you at 6:30. in just a couple of hours from right now, jury deliberations resume in the barry bonds' trial. allie rasmus tells us about the testimony that will get a second hearing this morning. what is going on? >> reporter: dave, today the jury will take a closer look at the testimony in a key witness in this trial. that witness is kathy hoskins. she was bonds' personal shopper for a number of years. she testified on the stands

that she saw the personal trainer inject bonds in the belly button. now the jury will have to decide whether barry bonds' committed perjury when he told the grand jury back in 2003 he never knowingly took steroids or human growth hormone. bonds' faces three charge of making false statements one charge of obstruction of justice. they could find him guilty of some of the charges, all of them, or none at all. because of the intense media attention on the trial, they are not expecting a hung jury. >> media trials there is huge pressure to reach a verdict because all of these folks have to go back to their community who all know they were serving on the barry bonds' trial and have to explain what happened. they don't want to go back empty handed. >> reporter: now this will be the second day that the eight women and four men on the jury deliberate. we don't know when they will reach a verdict.

we are told they are expected to be back inside the courthouse to continue deliberations. >> you can get updates any time by going to our channel 2 website that is ktvu.com just click on the bonds' trial tab. new this morning san francisco police are searching far missing elderly woman. 89-year-old keu thang vanished saturday night. she's 5'2" tall with brown eyes and gray hair. she suffers from medical and mental disabilities. if you've seen her you are asked to call san francisco police right away. police have a suspect in custody after the stabbing death of a teenager. it happened around 4:30 yesterday afternoon. that is when police say they

found a 19-year-old with a stab wound. he later died at the hospital. the names of the victim and suspect and circumstances have not been released. time now 6:06. stanford students you are warned to be on the lookout after a recent sexual assault on campus. it happened saturday night. a man broke into the room and sexually salted a student but that student screamed and a man ran away. one stanford grad student we talked to said more security is needed. >> especially in the low rise these things tend to happen more. i live in a high-rise. it's more secure having to get through a door. >> so far police don't have anyone in custody. this is the second warning about campus safety in the past two weeks after another man tried to break into a parking

lot building through a window. they are warning uc berkeley students with care after -- students to be careful there. police are not sure if the assaults are connected. time is 6:07. at this hour people that don't have health insurance is lining up at the oakland coliseum for a free health clinic. kraig debro is live. >> reporter: good morning, maureen. we are actually standing right inside the coliseum doors. they are checking people in for dental care. over here you register and over here you wait in line before the next medical professional is ready for you. seiche means compression relief in chinese.

see about 1,000 people each day. they should see more if not for laws that prohibit doctors from crossing state lines to offer free medical care. if you take a look at a live picture you see people that are waiting in this line over here have their blankets with them. blankets that they used over night to stand in line until 3:30 and then stay in their cars for another two hours after that to protect themselves from the cold weather. reporting live in oakland kraig debro. time now 6:09. the budget battles continue on capitol hill. today they will tell us the details of the spending bill that prevented that government shutdown. we will bring you a live report from washington, d.c. where some lawmakers say they are not happy with the deal. time is 6:10. this mornings the public committee is voting on a proposal to fine pg&e $3 million. it's a penalty for failing to

our day. by the afternoon we will be partly cloudy. these clouds ahead of a very weak storm that will roll through our area today. 50 in oakland. most of us waking up two to three degrees warmer. upper 40s as you start your morning in san jose. eight miles light reported in san francisco. seven in oakland. we are looking at calm conditions over the north bay. backing it up and showing you this storm here we have the light rain continuing to fall over eureka this morning. cry morning. the -- by the afternoon the rain will move through. it will roll back our temperatures. it will bring us breezy weather in the afternoon. we have the low that will continue to roll through the area. the winds will kick up anywhere from 15-20 miles an hour. along the coast we could see

wind gusts of 30 miles an hour. it will be a breezy brisk cool day. 63 in antioch. 60 in berkeley. 60-degrees in oakland. 62 for the afternoon nevada. how about the south bay. 62 san jose. 60 degrees redwood city. your week ahead it will be mild. we are looking at just a few possibilities here of maybe a sprinkle or two and then a nice warmup in toward the weekend. we have a modest warmup for your tuesday and wednesday. this one looks like we could actually get wet. we will be watching that one for you. it will drive our temperatures down as well. upper 50s in the forecast there. we are sitting in the low to mid 60s for this time of year. mostly sunny skies and 70s. 72 on saturday. 73 come sunday. a gruesome discovery

as alison burns reports from our washington, d.c. bureau. president obama set to announce a plan this week to reduce the federal deficit. allison. >> reporter: it is going to get a little confusing this week. first let's wrap the dramatic battle over this years budget. the house and senate are expected to vote this week on the compromise bill that averted a government shutdown. we will learn about what is lin colluded in the nearly -- included in the nearly $40 billion. then we hear from president obama on how he wants to reduce the deficit. his plan reportedly calls for tax increases on the wealthy and republicans are already making clear that is a nonstarter. >> for the last two months we have had to bring this president kicking and screening to the table to cut spending. then they almost present a plan as far as how to address a fiscal situation and right away they are insisting we have to go about looking at raising taxes again. >> the pot is going to be announcing that plan in a major

speech on wednesday. it's being called his most significant response yet to dealing with the nation's debt. reporting live from washington, d.c. alison burns ktvu channel 2 news. time now 6:17. a search continues in new york for more possible victims of a suspected serial killer. eight bodies have been found along this isolated beach in long island. homicide identified four of those victims such as prostitutes. they are checking their credit cards and phone records in a desperate attempt to track down this killer. >> new details about hair presential. stricter community. now before an international flight departs for the u.s. the government checks passengers against a watch list thin clouds al qaeda and people that attended training camp. more than 350 have been blocked from u.s. commercial flights

since 2009. britain south agency announced gay men will be allowed to donate blood for the first time. that reverses a ban that dates back several decades. however, there is one major restriction. only gay men who have not had sex with man for the past ten years will be allowed to donate blood. those that were still sexually active will be banned from giving blood. more people are using golden gate buses and ferries to get around. golden gate bridge officials tell the marin district that high gas prices could be one reason for a small boost in ridership. they say it could be a sign of an improving job market as more people commute. ridership is up 4.5% from last year. total bus ridership is up from a tenth of a percent. it sounds like they are waking up around the toll plaza. >> they are. things are getting more crowded as people on get on this

monday. you have to get out there. just a little bit more of a crowd there. still not a bad commute i will say. just a five minute delay before you get on the bridge. no major problems on that bridge. this is a look at interstate 880 and the traffic is moving well in both directions here right in front of the oakland coliseum. if you are coming in from fairfield or vallejo it's a nice drive. highway 12 is getting a little bit of action. that traffic is easy so far heading west. at 6:20 let's go to rosemary. okay the official sunrise 6:40 already on the way. we will have mostly cloudy skies. san francisco there very light on shore breeze. more mid and high clouds along our stretch this morning as we watch this storm over northern california. the front is beginning to work its way south and east. it will take to the afternoon. it fizzles out as it does.

take a look at that. that's about it. santa rosa the north bay napa looking at mostly clear skies and into the second half of the afternoon by 4:00 or 5:00 we begin to see the peninsula clearing. san jose will take until 6:00. sunsetting at 7:40 these days. out look these days mid 40s to mid 50s. our temperatures up a few degrees because of the clouds out there. mid 50s for the lunchtime along the coast. 60 in and around areas of san jose. and for the afternoon upper 50s to low 60s. some of us will be cool for this time of year. we are expecting to be breezy as well behind the front gusty conditions for the coast. the rest of us will see winds between 10-15 miles an hour maybe close to 20 for the afternoon. your extended forecast will bring along that jacket you may need it. tomorrow a nice modest warmup. another west day expected to come wednesday. we are looking at showers,

good morning, right now traffic is moving along pretty well approaching the bay bridge. then it slows down for a five minute delay at the toll plaza. metering lights have just gone on. pretty soon we will see a bigger crowd. time is 6:25. federal investigators will be in maine to figure out what caused a plane to crash into the home. the home burst into flames the pilot died after last nights crash. s homeowners were -- the homeowner were not home at the time. boat owners are still cleaning up after that tsunami. 14 boats sank.

and google. we will go ahead and smile and say good morning, to you. welcome to the ktvu morning news. >> partly cloudy south carolina off today. it is now 6:30. >> we can tell you security will be very tight when the san francisco giants kick off their three game series tonight against the l.a. dodgers. ktvu jennis join -- jade hernandez is joining us live. what can fans expect? >> reporter: san francisco police wouldn't say how many police officers they would commit to dodgers games. but the bp of park operations say last week the security force would be anywhere from 30- 40% larger than a normal game. you are looking at video from at & t friday. today a 7:15 game is the first since the brutal attack on brian stow. still remains in a medically induced coma. friends and family will collect donations for stow.

should more. lines are getting larger. but if you look over there, we used to have a large number of medical professionals but now they have gone out and concentrating their efforts over here. when we come back we will tell you what the oakland coliseum has done to donate some of its time to this event. reporting live in oakland kraig debro. time now 6:35. a death in san francisco's bay vue neighborhood is -- bay view neighborhood is considered suspicious. there are very few details about this case. the witnesses say the arson task force was on the scene. investigators have ruled out the involvement of a third party. berkeley news identified the couple as 60-year-old gary longden and susan longden.

according to the newspaper court documents show they were going through a divorce. autopsies are pending to determine how they died. chp tells us they are still looking for the driver that hit and killed a pedestrian on interstate 280 in daly city. it happened at 5:45 yesterday morning. chp says after the man was hit by the toyota corolla the driver got out and ran. southbound 280 was shut down for 2 .5 hours during the investigation. this morning city leaders in san francisco will meet to discuss the growing concerns over pedestrian safety. last month three people died walking the streets of san francisco in a four-day period. more than 800 people are hit by cars in the city every year. that makes san francisco one of the most dangerous cities in the nation for pedestrians. time now 6:37. sal says the morning commute is awake now isn't it? >> it is.

meet for their second day of deliberations. the eight women and four men on the jury will have to decide whether barry bonds' committed perjury when he told a grand jury back in 2003 he never knowingly took performance enhancing drugs. when the jury returns, they are expected to take a closer look at the testimony of kathy hoskins. hoskins was bonds' personal shopper who said on the stand that during this three-week long trial she saw bonds' personal trainer greg anderson inject him in the stomach. the jury has asked to have a transcript of her testimony read back to him. >> the fact they are focused on kathy hoskins is interesting because of all of the main people testifying she is probably the one with the least amount of baggage and she is the one who said she directly saw an injection going into barry bonds' belly button. >> now bonds' faces three charges of making false statements. one charge of obstruction of justice. the jury could find him guilty

flight at sfo you should have no problem. let's go to rosemary. good morning, to you a live look at san francisco. we have a mix of clouds out there. we have a few clouds mid and high level clouds. by the afternoon partly cloudy expected. we will be breezy. temperatures will fall back a little bit. it's due to this system here over northern california. this front will slide down the coast over the course of today and as it does it's expected to wash out pretty much right over our area. so will we see any rain? not likely. we will have cloudy conditions and with the change in air moss we will see the winds pick up. gusts to 30 miles an hour. our hills will see pretty breezy conditions. this will be a quick moving system by tomorrow we are dry. another system to come though. that comes up in a moment. the 7:00 our hour will be our

welcome back. look at these pictures this is tennessee after a possible tornado came through washington county. strong winds toppled tries, damaged buildings. look at what happened to the cars out there they were crushed by falling tree branches. thousands of homes lost their power but emergency crews worked all night to get the lights back on. the judge in the profootball labor dispute is planning to pleopods forced remediation this week. this is considered a legal victory for the owners who wanted a federal mediator to go back to the talks. the same judge will rule on the players request to lift the lockout imposed by the owners. that ruling is expected in the next couple of weeks. parents of young children
