work monday you're going to need that umbrella. if you like scattered showers falling this morning that will remain the case for today get a little closer san francisco, berkeley, pin ole seeing a few light showers. north bay saw some earlier. now we're seeing more over areas around concord, antioch, down to clayton. not bad at all. south bay dry at this time. look at how scattery this shower and storm is. we'll tell you what to expect for over the course of the day and just how cool we expect the temperatures to be for the afternoon in just a few moments. sal. rosemary, we have a crash southbound 680 started off as a stalled vehicle and then someone ran into it. now the right lane is closed and traffic is going to be effected here. if you're driving on 680 south it's an injury accident with the right lane blocked and paramedics and fire trucks are just arriving now on the scene. also this morning we're looking at the westbound bay bridge. that traffic is getting busier. 6:01. let's go back to the desk.

sal, thank you. 105 years ago today a catastrophic earthquake and fire destroyed most of san francisco. an early morning ceremony marking this sad anniversary started about an hour ago. ktvu's tara moriarty joining us live. she's outside liotta fountain right now. tell us about what happened this morning. >> reporter: well, it was very interesting piece of san francisco history. a lot of singing, celebration and reflection of moment of silence. people have since moved on. they've gone to 20th and church to commemorate the guiling of the fire hydrant. that's the fire hydrant that was used to save the mission district from going up in flames. but behind me this is market and kernny. this is where everyone was around 5:12 this morning gathered here. the same place they met 105 years ago after the quake struck

struck. >> reporter: sirens rang out just like they did on april 18, 1906. followed by a moment of silence and sing here. the only monument left standing after the quake. 3,000 people were killed on that infamous day. and people we spoke to this morning wanted to catch a piece of san francisco history. >> i've been coming for 18 years. i work for the city. i had a co-worker who brought me the first time and we just continue to come out. >> reporter: experts say there is a 63% chance of the big one striking again today. and the tsunami in japan are a stark reminder of that reality. three remaining survivors of the '06 quake. one of them 105-year-old bill who was just a baby he is here this morning. and right about now folks are leaving 20th and church streets. they are headed to celebrate by having a survivor bloody mary breakfast. live in san francisco, tara moriarty, ktvu channel 2 news. all right.

6:03 is time right now. starting today the federal government will mediate talks between native americans and city officials in vallejo. vallejo wants to build a park on a 15-acre strip of land along glen cove. but native american activists say that land contains an ancient burial ground and that it should not be desecrated. the homeowners association supports the park saying that the area has become a hang out for drug addicts and that it needs to be cleaned up. a 27-year-old man could face charges after being arrested for shooting in san jose. police were called to snell and hillsdale avenues around 8:00 friday night. but when officers arrived on the scene they could not find a victim. 15 minutes later police finally found a man with a gunshot wound at monterey road and curt near avenue. the victim had to go to the hospital but is said to be okay. now on saturday officers arrested the 27-year-old man. time now 6:04. we're following overnight news from san mateo county. early this morning the county

hazmat team allowed dozens of people living in a redwood city apartment building to go back into their homes. hours earlier they evacuated the building on regent street after getting calls of dangerous chemicals spreading through the complex. emergency crews later found out that a young man used those chemicals to take his own life. >> the young man acted on his own and poured the chemicals and prepared the mix. and he did it on his own. >> several paramedics, firefighters and police officers briefly became dizzy. they were checked out at a nearby hospital. pg&e reportedly faces a key deadline today that could lead to more fines. the san jose mercury news reports state regulators want to hear from the utility by today about its recordkeeping practices. now according to the paper, it's part of a broader investigation into whether pg&e's missing records breaks the law and compromises pipeline safety. the california public utilities commission launched an

investigation following the san bruno explosion. this week the f.a.a. is giving air traffic controllers across the country a wake up call. we're going to have a live report from washington d.c. coming up at 6:15 with the new scheduling rules that go into effect this week. time now 6:05. a warning for you last minute tax filers. you may have to pay a little more this year if you're mailing in your taxes. ktvu's kraig debro live at oakland now to tell us about an important change. good morning, kraig. >> reporter: yes, dave. good morning. the big traffic jams you are used to seeing at the post offices won't probably happen until tonight if at all that's because the post office says that most people are filing a different way right now we're at a coffee shop/shopping center to speak with some filers. again, usps says most people filing a return these days are filing online. but you wouldn't know that by visiting a local tax preparer's office as we did yesterday. this is an h and r block in san

francisco. and it's not their only location. and this isn't the only location preparing taxes. you can imagine what everybody else's looked like. there are a significant amount of people daring themselves against a deadline. if you wanted to wait until the last few days, don't worry about that. you're in good company. according to turbo tax, that's a competing tax preparer company, they say 41% of all americans waited until the last four weeks before the deadline to file their income taxes for tax year 2009. the company says more people are waiting later this year. but it's not all about procrastination. >> that's okay i come this time every year. i like it. i just like the energy and the other people that are here. and they do this consistently. and we try to make sure we accommodate them and they're happy, we're happy. >> reporter: if you're one of the 30% of people filing their taxes via mail, don't get caught short. yesterday rate increases took

watch out for mountain lions. a newspaper delivery man spotted one early yesterday morning. people living in the area are now being reminded never to approach a mountain lion. avoid hiking or walking at dawn, dusk or night when the mountain lions are most active. time now 6:08. check in with sal see how we're doing so far. it's been relatively quiet. >> it has been. traffic moving along relatively well around there for this monday morning. if you're trying to get out of the house, let's go out and take a look at what we have. southbound 680 this is the exception. there is a crash heading down to the 580 interchange. one of the right lanes is blocked southbound 680. so watch for an injury accident there. this morning on highway 4 it looks good. there are no major problems on brentwood boulevard near spruce there's an overturned truck with 6,000 gallons of milk on board. some of that milk is beginning to spill out around brentwood boulevard one of the major streets there and it's causing a traffic jam. moving along and looking at

south bay northbound 280 in san jose looks good up to highway 17. 6:09. filling in for steve it's rosemary. good morning to you. we could see for ourselves most of those roadways still dry at this moment. we have a weak system rolling through for today. that's bringing us just hit or miss showers this morning. santa rosa reported light rain from time to time. dealing with widespread cloud cover and even a little bit of fog out there this morning. but not a whole lot of rain. where could we be seeing some light rain benicia, martinez, concord, clayton, pittsburgh, antioch down to san leandro on the east side perhaps a little light rain. some of this even virga meaning it's not hitting the ground. livermore are you in and out of a few sprinkles at this time. but gray skies in store for today. we're going to be cooler with this system as well. your satellite and radar view notice we've got plenty of rain over the sierra. if you do make that morning drive all the way to areas hoe, truck key, snow levels dropping to 6,000 feet later today.

but here in the bay we're hard pressed to see woman rain. as we roll through today we're not likely to see a whole lot. at 10:00 little bit there. mostly cloudy skies. hit or miss spotty showers. afternoon high 61. expected berkeley, hayward, 62 concord. 58 san francisco. could be breezy in the afternoon but shouldn't be too bad. 63 mountain view. 63 san jose. andyour week ahead a little hit and miss. look what's happening. mostly sunny for tomorrow. temperatures back into the mid- 60s but then knocked back once again wednesday. showers return to the area. we're really cool on thursday. we're dry on friday. and we're partly to mostly cloudy skies in time for the easter weekend. models indicating maybe a few sprinkles for the weekend as well. temperatures sitting in the low 60s. all right. time now 6:11. speaking of weather, north carolina's governor will get a firsthand look at more areas devastated by violent storms

and tornadoes. want to show you some video. now this is a funnel cloud touching down in the city of wilson. you can actually see all of that debris flying every place. in north carolina alone the storms killed at least 21 people, damaged hundreds of homes. survivors talked about some of those terrifying moments. >> when i look out the front window i seen this twister coming. it was just twisting. and i told my wife hit the bathroom. as soon as we hit the bathroom floor the whole roof just flew off. >> i just so sure that we were at death's door. i was scared. >> tornadoes and high winds have killed at least 45 people across six states between last thursday and saturday. well, sleeping on the job. the brand new schedule change design today keep air traffic controllers awake. also president obama will be right here in the bay area this wednesday and thursday. he's visiting a silicon valley hot spot and appearing at

allison. >> reporter: dave, it is a shocking number. there have been at least seven reported cases of air traffic controllers falling asleep on the job since the start of the year. now in some of the most scary cases pilots including one flying a medical helicopter had to go it alone and land without a controller leading them in. the new rules announced yesterday require controllers now have a minimum of nine hours off between shifts instead of eight. there are new restrictions on swapping shifts. and there will be more f.a.a. managers covering the early morning and late night hours. there are also huge questions about why the changes were not made sooner. the national transportation safety board issued recommendations to reduce fatigue in 2007. now the secretary of transportation is on the defensive. >> i was not the secretary in 2007. i'm the secretary today. as soon as i learned about this, these controllers were suspended. >> reporter: there are also concerns about whether air traffic controllers are getting

enough safety training. i'll have more on that for you during my next update in about an hour. for now live in washington d.c., allison burns, ktvu channel 2 news. well, president obama still believes new york city should have been the location to hold the trials of the accused september 11 conspirators. the president says the trial of the alleged master mind of the september 11 attacks and four others could have been handled as part of the regular criminal justice system. but the accused will now face military tribunals at guantanamo bay prison where they are being held. president obama will be in the bay area on wednesday and thursday. on wednesday he will visit facebook headquarters in palo alto where he will hold an online town hall meeting on the economy and job creation. the president will also attend several fund raising events while he's here for his 2012 re- election campaign and for the democratic party as a whole. the one public fundraiser is an

appearance at san francisco's masonic auditorium. as we've been telling you this is tax deadline day. and millions of illegal immigrants living and working in the u.s. will use an individual tax identification number to pay their taxes. that's because they don't have social security numbers. the irs reports 3.8 million people filed returns using tax identification numbers last year. that number's expected to be even higher this year. well, gregg mortonson the author of the best selling book three cups of tea is defending himself against accusations that his book is filled with inaccuracies. 60 minutes interviewed several people who say the story of how he got started building schools in afghanistan and pakistan is just not true. the show raised questions about the finances of the central institute the nonprofit agency that he founded. now in a letter to his supporters he says he stands by the information that he wrote

about in his book. ticket scalpers are reportedly making a profit off yosemite national park's popularity. park officials tell the sacramento bee that camp reservations and permits to climb are now being sold by scalpers online. now many people trying to get legitimate reservations are frustrated. but yosemite rangers say avoid ticket scalpers and check the park's reservation system for cancellations. they are i think you can call 48 hours ahead or something. >> okay. >> i've done it before and been successful. it is hard to make reservations. >> all right. time now 6:19. we can check in with sal now about the commute. sal. all right. dave, we're looking at traffic, dave and pam, that's getting busier on 80 westbound coming out from let's say vallejo and pin ole richmond into berkeley. it's not stop and go yet but you can certainly tell that as every minute goes on we have more and more people getting on the road. when you get to the toll plaza it is also getting more

crowded. this is the time when they turn the metering lights on. and you are doing to see more slow traffic pretty soon. in fact, it's going to be a little back up building here. there is the sig alert southbound 680 this is because of an accident blocking the right lane. started off as a stalled vehicle, but now it's turned into an injury crash. if you are driving in this area let's say leaving the danville area and heading south you will see some slow traffic right there. at 6:20, let's go to rosemary. okay. cloudy conditions outside. light winds. and some rain is falling in some areas. it's not a lot but light scattered showers in the forecast for our back to work monday. seeing a little light rain over areas of santa rosa and perhaps martinez, concord and danville. antioch may be seeing a few sprinkles at this moment. for the afternoon we are looking at partly to mostly cloudy skies and the rain finally tapering off. clouds and fog even as you start your morning in through the second half of the day these showers will become very spotty and then temperatures for the afternoon will be cooler than what we see over

the weekend by five even ten degrees cooler. low to mid-50s at this hour. we'll be sitting in the 50s through the 7:00 hour. noontime numbers mid-50s to low 60s. so notice just a gradual warm up in some cases. not much at all. upper 50s for the coast by the afternoon low 60s inland. and your extended forecast here remains a bit soggy with scattered showers in the forecast today, wednesday and maybe even in time for the easter weekend. meanwhile overall temperatures going to be right about normal even cooler than that thursday getting to about 60 degrees is all we get for the afternoon. but, again, on and off just an unsettled week ahead. back to you. all right. thank you, rosemary. a drug by san francisco based company can now be used to treat a rare disease in children. the san francisco business times reports the fda has approved the rheumatoid arthritis drug as a treatment for stills disease. stills disease is a form of juvenile arthritis that causes severe inflammation throughout the body.

now the first approved therapy for children with that disease. today bmw unveils its first all electric car. the bmw active e will be only available for lease initially in four west coast locations and two on the east coast. the bmw says it will fully charge in four and a half hours and will be able to travel for 100 miles. it can go 25 miles on just a one hour charge. no word on what that cost will be to lease the bmw active e. time now 6:22. injured giants fan bryan stow has been placed back in a coma. what happened to him over the weekend forcing doctors to put him back on the medication. a military aircraft makes an emergency landing. the problem that forced that pilot to circle around for an hour and a half before finally touching down. good morning. highway 4 traffic is busy in antioch. okay here in bay point. but we have a big problem on contra costa city streets. we'll let you know.

time now 6:25. look at this. a california air national guard plane landed safely after making an emergency landing. look underneath it. only has one landing gear there. this military plane landed at the colorado springs airport. it circled for an hour and a half yesterday because of that landing gear problem, but it landed safely. five crew members on board were not hurt. injured giants fan bryan stow is back in a medically induced coma this morning after suffering seizures over the weekend. doctors in los angeles stopped giving the 42-year-old the drugs that were keeping him in a coma last week with the hope that he would wake up. but on saturday morning stow suffered seizures forcing him back on the drugs. doctors say they will monitor the paramedic for the next few days to see if they can once again reduce his medication. stow's medical setback comes as people continue to come together in his honor. south bay firefighters faced off with stow's paramedic and emt co-workers last night in a

charity hockey game in san jose. stow's girlfriend started the game by dropping the puck. >> he would be amazed. he would be amazed right now. and i hope when all is said and done and he wakes up hopefully that he'll be able to bask in the flurry and see how loved he is. he was just loved by everybody. >> many of the people who turned out had never even met stow but say they want to show their support. the event also included a silent auction and raffle featuring items donated by the san jose sharks. time now 6:27. organizers of san francisco's cherry blossom festival reportedly raised about $200,000 for victims of the japan earthquake and tsunami. a larger than usual crowd attended yesterday's grandpa raid and organizers say people just wanted to help. many donated money or they bought t-shirts and hoodies along the parade route. the proceeds will buy medical supplies, water and other essentials for northern japan.

the irs had a list of things not to do. here's the list. i asked him about hiding money offshore because that's the number one scam. hiding identity theft or phishing, even the smallest thing can be filed misleading. even if it's a minor thing it could be major. it's a federal offense. nontaxable social security benefits some of the other ones. number ten down there zero wages. then eleven misuse of trusts. i don't have to worry about that or hiding income offshore. the one down there at the bottom, fuel tax credit scams. might be one of those ones that's getting increasingly more popular as gas prices continue to rise. today's deadline is the 18th of april this year. it's usually the 15th but it's the 18th this year because of emancipation day in washington d.c. a lot of people still filing last minute but according to the irs70% of us

well, japan's nuclear safety agency sent robots into two reactor buildings damaged nuclear power plant to test radiation levels. the robots recorded high levels of radiation inside the buildings, but the agency says not too high for humans to work. now according to the agency the radiation levels indicate that workers tried to restore the plant's systems will only be able to stay in the reactor buildings for short periods of time. meantime, toyota says it has now resumed production at all of its plants in japan for the first time since that earthquake and tsunami on march 11. company says because of shortages of parts the factories will run at half of their normal capacity. time now 6:36. this morning police are out there searching for a gunman involved in a deadly shooting inside of a san jose home. it happened early yesterday morning on capital avenue. investigators say a woman called police saying a gunman burst into her house and shot her friend. her 25-year-old friend was later pronounced dead on the

scene. that killing was san jose's 14th homicide of the year. a man has been arrested accused of shooting a romantic rival outside a san leandro restaurant. police say moore shot a 22-year- old oakland man several times late saturday night in the parking lot of the chili east restaurant at bay fair mall. the victim is in critical condition this morning. investigators say moore was angry that the man was with his ex-girlfriend. that woman apparently left the scene with moore after the shooting. police later arrested both of them at moore's oakland apartment. police in sacramento have arrested a man they say opened fire at a house party killing one person and injuring four others. police say 23-year-old michael walton was asked to leave the party early yesterday morning because people were saying he was too drunk. witnesses say he then got angry and pulled out a gun and started firing. your time now 6:37. san bruno police have found the

body of a 20-year-old woman reported missing over the weekend. the examiner reports the body of scott was found just before 8:00 yesterday morning. but investigators still haven't said where they found her body or how she might have died. scott was last seen saturday morning after having an argument with her boyfriend. all right. 6:37 is the time right now. let's check back in with sal for the monday morning commute. how's it look, sal? i would give it a b plus, pam and dave. we've had a couple problems out there. one of the things i wanted to tell you about is that the bay bridge is getting busier now as you come up to the toll plaza. metering lights usually go on around 6:15 or so. now a little bit of a back up. but just looking at this looks like it will not be a huge day at the bay bridge barring a big crash. if that happens then all bets are off. moving along to interstate 880 it's a nice drive there in both directions if you're trying to catch a flight at oakland international airport shouldn't be a bad commute for you. we've had a crash on 680

southbound. a couple of them. one of them westbound 580. look at the livermore road sensors and also the 680 road sensors getting down or across to dublin not great right now. the crash we had has been cleared from the lanes. but traffic is still slow coming out of san ramon and danville. and 580 is in bad shape as well. 6:38. let's go to rosemary. good morning to you. waking up with widespread gray. look at that gloomy picture over oakland. we have low clouds hugging the coastline. mid and high level clouds. little bit of rain is falling from those clouds. not a whole lot. in fact take a look for yourself. areas over the north bay seeing scattered showers from time to time and time lapse is three hours. over the course of the three hours we've watched it move through. at this point east bay valley locations scattered showers but tapers off the last half hour or so maybe liver more more a few scattered showers. and some of this not everyone hitting the ground.

overall picture of what's going on. you can see just how weak it is. scattered showers over northern california. sierra perhaps seeing some good light rain. snow levels will be dropping over the course of the day between 6,000 and 6500 feet by tonight and the valley seeing light rain from time to time. the rest of us mainly dry at least at the moment. satellite view 24 hour lapse yesterday we continued to watch this little ridge right there continue to be pushed off broken down into the east. now we have this zonal flow and this is going to be in tact for the week ahead leaving unsettled weather in our forecast. so 54 degrees right now in oakland, 52 san francisco. mild to relatively mild i'll say. mountain view 57. 57 san jose. some of us even a tad warmer than yesterday. but as we get into the afternoon we're going to be cooler. we're going to be cloudy. and we're going to leave in the possibility of maybe a sprinkle or two. 62 concord this afternoon. 61 hayward. upper 50s san francisco 59 san raphael and low 60s for santa

to more fines. the san jose mercury news reports state regulators want to hear from pg&e today about its recordkeeping practices. and as early as today the federal government will start mediating talks between native americans and city officials in vallejo. vallejo wants to build a park on a 15-acre strip of land along glen cove. however native american activists say that land contains an ancient burial ground and it should not be desecrated. we are following breaking news in the east bay where a milk truck has tipped over. ktvu channel 2 reporter allie rasmus is live in brentwood with the clean up effort now underway. allie. >> reporter: well, pam, you can see the truck right here behind us. it's an 18 wheeler tipped on its side. right now you can see not just one but actually three tow trucks that have attached some heavy duty cables to the wheel and any minute now they're going to try and pull this tanker truck back up right.

now this accident happened about two hours ago. the driver was heading westbound on brentwood boulevard towards antioch when he lost control at the curve on the road here near brentwood boulevard and spruce street. now the good news is the driver was not seriously injured and no other vehicles involved in this accident. when this crash happened it created an unusual scene out here. that's because this tanker truck if you can pan over to the side and see the letters and the writing on the back of that tanker truck it says food grade. inside that tanker was 6,000 gallons of milk. and when this accident happened that tanker opened up and a bunch of that milk spilled out here on to the street. in fact if we look down here on the pavement here's a little bit of milk. some muddy milk you have over here. any minute now they're going to try and pull this tanker truck back up right. you can see they're in the process of doing that. meanwhile brentwood police are out here and they are trying to coordinate a clean up effort because on the other side of

where this truck is there's actually some sandbags and a little reservoir of sorts where they've kind of collected all of that spilled milk. they don't want it to go into the storm system because it goes into the bay. the police have told me they have contacted the state department of fish and game to coordinate the clean up effort out here. we'll continue to update you on this story and check back with you guys in about 15 minutes. live in brentwood, allie rasmus, ktvu channel 2 news. time now just turning 6:47. this week marks one year since the bp oil spill. scientists say the overall health of the gulf of mexico is almost back to normal. more than three dozen scientists give the gulf an overall health score of just about where it was before the oil spill. however they say some serious concerns remain like the mysterious deaths of hundreds of young dolphins and turtles, some strangely stained crabs and down on the sea floor some dead patches. in libya the stalemate continues between rebel forces

and troops loyal to libyan leader moammar gadafi. fierce fighting continues between the two sides. even with support of nato air strikes the rebel forces have been unable to hold the gains made in weeks of back and forth fighting. a lot to tell you about this morning in your commute. sal. traffic is going to be busy as you drive ashed around the bay area. we're looking at highway 4 now. highway 4 traffic actually looks pretty good if you are driving there you will see traffic is moving along very welcoming into the concord area. and there are no major problems. also this morning's commute is going to be okay if you are driving on westbound bay bridge approach. that traffic looks good if you are driving on to the bridge itself it looks very nice coming in to san francisco. and the morning commute in san jose northbound 280 trafficker moving along very nicely. there are no major problems here getting up to highway 17.

6:48. let's go to rosemary. and good news this morning. most of our highways remain dry at the time. give you a live look from bay point -- a nice view there of plenty of gray sky. and oakland is what we're looking at. we've been seeing just a few light showers this morning. and that will be the case through today. take a look at storm tracker. it really is just a weak storm. and we're okay with that, right? see scattered showers in store for today. maybe enough just to get you wet. and at this moment you can see we're mainly dry. a north bay seen light showers from time to time. and we're definitely cloudy. we've got plenty of gray out there. low, mid and high level clouds. a light breeze around san francisco. if you are traveling in and out of fairfield this morning a little breezier there but in general our winds will remain fairly light. we'll be breezy over the hills for the afternoon. i want to show you what we are expecting as we move through the evening hours just a few one-hundredths total. here we are tuesday morning. we're already you know this is the total front for today. not a whole lot.

santa rosa may pick up anywhere from about a tenth to you know .15 or so where we may see just a little bit more is areas over the hills. authority bay hills could pick up anywhere from a quarter inch to half inch. gray skies this morning. light rain in the forecast. we will be spotty with showers throughout the afternoon. could be a little breezy for our hills as well as the coast. the rest of us between 10 and 15 miles per hour. not too bad. and then a very slight chance of rain remaining in the forecast for evening hours. temperatures this morning sitting in the 50s. we'll be holding onto that through the 7:00 hour. very similar to where we were yesterday. so if you were out and about yesterday morning can expect more of the same. mid-50s for the coastline right about lunchtime and approaching 60 degrees inland areas. below average a tad for this time of year. taking a mid latitude track but not too cold. tomorrow mostly sunny skies. mid-60s in the forecast. low 60s for wednesday. and we are looking at another system bringing us a similar

rain pattern. thursday and friday we're dry but cool. into the weekend our future models are giving us the possibility of maybe a few sprinkles on easter sundayful we'll track that for you throughout the week. partly to mostly cloudy skies for the weekend. well, 2010 was the most profitable year in history for some silicon valley companies. according to the san jose mercury news, 150 of the biggest public companies saw their combined sales for the past year rise 20% from the year before. consumers are being credited for the leap for buying up the latest hand held gadgets. those are in the lead. and corporationsed ad to the revenue pile by purchasing equipment to keep up with the new economy. all right. let's check in on wall street. getting hit pretty hard today. a live look at the big board. new york stock exchange down 185 points. that's the dow. the nasdaq and s&p 500 i am looking at right now. they're both down more than a quarter percent as well.

a lot of that on global concerns. we also have as i've been mentioning about a hundred companies reporting earnings today. citi group one of them leading the way reporting some disappointing numbers. some good news this morning according to a poll from the national association for business economics about 94% of economists say the economy should grow by at least 2% this year. we'll see how wall street maybe responds to that. but, again, right now down morning. according to a -- all right. we're going to talk about the movies. rio did really well. >> it did very well. uc davis is mourning the loss of a recent graduate. and homes in texas are evacuated as several fires spread across the state. who's accused of starting one of them. good morning. that truck that was carrying milk that was flipped over has just been rited. but still a big traffic delay on brentwood boulevard.

hundreds of firefighters are out there trying to con tame them. one firefighter has already been killed. more than 700,000 acres have been burned in texas. a homeless man has been charged with starting a fire near austin, texas, the authorities think it started with his campfire. davis police are investigating the death of a former college baseball player. police say the 22-year-old fell and hit his head saturday night while at a party celebrating picnic day which is the annual open house at uc davis. he recently graduated from the university with an economics degree. he was a volunteer baseball coach at adverse high school. more testimony this morning in the trial into the murder of journalist chauncey bailey. yusuf bey the 4th leader of the former your black muslim bakery is on trial facing three counts of murder for bailey's death and the deaths of two other men in 2007. bey is accused of ordering the killing. and mack is the accused get away driver.

brusard confessed to killing bailey. san jose animal control officials haven't had any luck finding the two dogs believed to be responsible for a vicious attack. dawn and her dog were attacked by two other dogs. wilson suffered bites to her hands and face. her dog had to be put down. the 66-year-old says one of the dogs in the attack was a tan pit bull. she describes the other dog as being large and black. if found, the dogs could be put down. let's check in with sal. see what's happening on the roads. all right. we have slow traffic in some areas. let's go right outside. i want to show you we have 237 traffic slowing down on the way into the valley. also traffic is busy on 880 but not stop and go. and we have really bad traffic this morning on 580 coming out of livermore to dublin because of a crash. 680 is also slow heading down to stone ridge. let's go back to rosemary. all right. overcast skies as you get out this morning. even a little damp.
