plans ended this morning for plans to to build a target store. tara moriarty is in downtown where san rafael where many business owners are not welcoming the new neighbor. >> reporter: merchants some of them say a new big box store would take away business from them. they were not happy after seven hours of debate the council voted to give target the green light. opponents say a big chain store would crush small businesses. it would create jobs. in the end the council voted 3- 2 to allow the chain to come to town. >> if it's local jobs, that is a very, very good thing. it saves on greenhouse gas, it saves on commutes. it's a good thing for our community. it all crumbles apart if they

are commuting in from out of town. >> reporter: they did promise to commute within. >> it doesn't take a brain surgeon. target will generate $55 million in sales, it will come at someone elses expense. >> reporter: the nearest target right now is in nevada. the new one will be built on an old landfill. target has agreed to contribute $250,000 to the community over the next ten years. many that would be used to improve the downtown area and east san rafael libraries. the new store should open by 2015. the only snag would be if the target backs out to donate and hire locally. reporting live from san rafael i'm tara moriarty. there is another critical decision late last night that may give way to new developments and jobs on treasure island. coming up what is developer want to build and why some are opposing their plan. also this morning police

are looking for suspects in an overnight shooting at an oakland gas station. it happened just before midnight at 73rd and bancroft. at least one gunman opened fire at the gas station wounding two people. both victims are expected to survive. witnesses spotted several young men running from the scene. so far police have not made any arrests. a huge fire at a warehouse and now it could be sunday before it's completely out. that fire has been burning since wednesday afternoon. firefighters are soaking the building using ladder trucks, piles of burned products can be seen through open doorways. the martin family stored its juices and cider at that warehouse. they expect shortages in the summer and fall. >> we lost 6,000 bins of apples that was in this cold storage last night too. there is no way to replace that

fruit. >> smoke is also a big problem. people with respiratory problems should stay indoors. it could be next week before it's safe for fire investigate evers to enter the building. san francisco police are looking for a man that exposed himself to a woman and sexually assaulted another woman. police released two sketches. police believe one man is responsible for both attacks even though the sketches appear to with different. both happened in the inner sunset last saturday at 2:00 a.m.. the man first exposed himself to a woman near stanen and frederick streets. then minutes later he followed a woman into his apartment and sexually assaulted her. she fought him off. a new medical marijuana dispensary is up and running in the city of antioch. it's located inside a shopping center on wild horse hill and

it opened last month. it reports several neighboring businesses are complaining about the smell and smoke coming from the dispensary as a result the antioch city council will consider a 45 day moratorium on new dispensaries at its meeting on tuesday. it has been three months since they found a 45-year-old man buried in the backyard of his home. they are waiting for the toxicology report on dale smith. the coroners office calls this a complex and difficult case and says the tests won't be completed for another three weeks. they all show what was in smith's system when he died and possibly what caused his death. lawyers for smith's wife have told her not to talk. pg&e chief executive is stepping down. peter darbee will leave his

processions like this one are being held all over the world today as christians observe good friday. they are commemorating the crucifixion of jesus. some even reenacting the carrying of the cross. the pope will driver his mass. the vatican is being ordered to turn over evidence in a priest abuse case dating back several decades. a federal judge in oregon made the ruling yesterday. the abuse happened in portland in the 1960s.

the judge said the vatican must now produce documents regarding its policies against sexual abuse punishment. about a dozen laid off grocery store workers are waking up hungry this morning in the south bay it's all in protest of their former employer. they are in the middle of of a two-day hunger strike. yesterday gathered outside of the store in san jose. the former workers are demanding their jobs back after being laid off in january. they say they laid off 300 people even though the chain continues to open new stores. >> it doesn't make sense. since they opened a new store. we expect one in sacramento. so it doesn't make sense. >> a spokeswoman tells us that

only 150 people were laid off not 300. the company also says the layoffs were made because of the struggling economy. a young woman from mexico city also staged a hunger strike but for a very different reason. the 19-year-old didn't eat for 16 days just to attend the royal wedding. she is now on the way to london. she is taking with her a picture she painted to give to prince william and kate middleton since she has no invitation to the actual wedding she hopes to follow the paparazzi and give it to the couple. you can watch the festivities right here. we will be talking all about it very exciting. sal, you will have your tea and crumb pets ready. >> i'm so excited.

we will have high clouds. high clouds ahead of more wet weather in time for the weekend. now these systems very, very weak. a very slight chance for rain on saturday. in fact, saturday looks to be the better chance. but on easter sunday we are looking at a possibility of a few sprinkles. we will be mostly gray. our temperatures will be mild. we will need sweaters on top of those easter dresses. taking a look at what is going on through the 8:00 hour. sitting in the low 40s. low 50s for our coastline. noontime numbers not too bad. mid 50s along the coast. and into the afternoon wide spread 60s in the forecast. take a look at what is going on. 67 in concord. mid 60s in oakland. 68 degrees for santa rosa. the extended forecast here so again it's just going to be a gray weekend in store but that chance for rain is going to be minimal. our temperature will remain in the mid to upper 60s.
