to take place. england's prince william is set to marry kate middle-ton and for many it's reminiscent of the wedding of prince william's parents? a. lady diana spencer mar wrid 32 years old prince charles and while it's ending was tragic on many endings the beginning had a fairytale quality. here is our coverage of that day. >> reporter: the queen at buckingham palace. e.g., corts all the way to the cathedral. there the youngest of the bride maids were waiting to enter. the first glimpse of bride, her

father beside her. lady diana spencer. nearly 3,000 wedding guests, a parade of uniform, all as the royal family arrived. >> we saw what will probably be the most memorable close-ups of them all, the beauty and character of the bride caught forever. . >> forever. >> with this ring, i thewe had wed. with my body, i thehonor. and all my worldly goods with

♪[ music ] they came down the aisle to pomp and circumstance no. 4, and there was a noticeable difference in them. charles relaxed, diana vail up, worries vanished. ♪[ music ] they said their thanks and it was up periscope and the crowd got their first sights of prince and princess of wales.

[ applause ] two families gathered on steps to wave goodbye and off with the lucky horseshoe on the seat. [ applause ] after the wedding, rosebuds and confetti showered the couple as

. we're taking a second look tonight at royal wedding nearly 30 years ago of lady diana and prince charles. shortly before they were married the soon to be married couple sat down for an interview. >> the most difficult thing is trying to work out how you can have a family life, as well as all the public demands that there are. trying to get involved in too many thing and dashing about is going to be my problem, trying to control that. and so we can have a proper family life. it isn't easy. there is much to be done. >> do you have any particular interests? >> i would say children. >> reporter: are you looking

forward to making a home? >> oh, yes, very much so. i want to be a good wife. >> reporter: are you a good cook, by the way? >> i have done cooking courses, yes. i would say i'm average, but you haven't tasted anything. [ laughter ] >> reporter: for those of a certain age of marriage of charles and diana was a reminder of a royal wedding 34 years earlier, the marriage of charles parents elizabeth and phillip in 1947. that wedding came at a time of great suffer and great hope in england. world war ii ended only years before and the austerity and rationing had not yet endedment food was in short supply and so was gasoline and much of london showed the scars of bombings that the country endured of the so the major was a rare, bright spot for a nation looking for

opportunities to celebrate its victory and survival. the marriage of the british queen gave them that opportunity. >> you are invited to the wedding of the royal highiness, princess elizabeth, daughter of king and queen, to lieutenant philip, royal navy in westminster abbey,30th of november, 1947. elizabeth the royal princess. elizabeth, the future queen. elizabeth a girl of 21 and this

her wedding day. ♪[ music ] after the royal couple, the guests, kings, queens and princesses from every corner of the earth. elizabeth, a 21-year-old bride. a princess who had made a pledge to her people, "i declare before you all that my whole life, whether it be long or short, shall be devoted to your service and the service of our great imperial family, to which we all belong. god help me to make good my vows, and god bless you all who are willing to share in it." the world. a picture that no words can describe. a scene that only the camera can record for history. >> reporter: a little over four years after princess elizabeth's marriage her father king gore vi died and short of her 26th birthday princess elizabeth became queen elizabeth ii, february 1952. 14 months later in june, 1953 the british empire held the coronation of its sovereign. >> a glittering spectacle witnessed by thousands. in the procession, britain's prime minister, sir winston churchill, who served five monarchs and through the gates the coach is carrying a beautiful and radiant girl of 27 years to her coronation and

beside her is her sailor husband, sir phillip, duke of he edinboro. act ii of this most lavish costly production of the century. history hery is at its elbow as elizabeth enters the abc bo. >> prince charles finds grabbed mother a patient teacher as he tried to absorb the importance of what he sees and hears for here knighthood reaches its full flower in the 20th century of the early days of chervoletry, stemming from william the conqueror, a large order for 4-year-olds eyes and ears, but some day this pageantry may mark his own coronation as the climatic moment approaches. the moment of queen's crown has come, holding high st. edward's

crown, the archbishop lowers the symbol of might and power and places it on the queen's head, the seam black in one voice cries "god save the queen." and before the wandering eyes of her son and heir, she is escorted by bishops and tempterral lords to be set upon her throne. thus elevated by the combined power of church and state and she received from the bishops and the homage of the peers. first the peers to take his vows to his queen is her husband and subject, phillip, duke of edinboro.

as we look forward to the marriage of england's prince william and kate mid-ton, we have looked back at other royal weddings and while others have taken place with great ceremony, one took place quietly in 2005, the marriage of prince charles to his long time lover, camila boules. the queen mother did not attend the private ceremony, but attended a ceremony afterwards. here is the report from 2005. >> reporter: at long last, prince charles married long time love camila parker bowles in a private civil ceremony before a religious blessing by the archbishop of canterbury. an impressive guest list of 750, including the queen and

prince phillip. >> charles and camila, you stand in the presence of god as man and wife, to dedicate to him your life together. that he may consecrate your marriage and empower you to keep the covenant and promise you have solemnly declared. >> reporter: in the wedding blessing, the couple recited a line of repentance from the book of common prayer, a line many considered an acknowledgment of their priority adultery. >> we acknowledge and bewail our sins and wickedness, which we from time to time, most grievously have committed. >> reporter: now officially her royal highness the duchess of cornwall, they greeted thousands of well-wishers who lined the streets waving flags and cheering and at times chatting with the crowd. >> reporter: seven months after their we had, charles and camulla toured marin county and

ktvu's mikemy bach followed them on their visit in 2005. >> reporter: a warm reception for a royal couple. the pring of wales and duchess of cornwall on their first trip abroad since their wedding. first stop toward, point reyes where they spent an hour shaking hands and testing produce. the royal couple also ventured into the town's local pub where they sat down to have a pint of beer of the just after 2:00 this afternoon they ventured in the town where they made their way to the organic farm of warren weber. >> he is a farmer and he is just a supporter of organic farming. he is interested, i know, in farms and the context of and the environment. >> reporter: weber says it was prince charles who wanted to see his west marin farm, the oldest organic farm in the state of california.

while they escorted the royal couple through their 40 acres of crop talking about organic farming, swarms of people were standing by anxiously it get a quick glimpse of the royal couple. they of prince charles begin farming organically 20 years ago and today his products bring tens of millions of dollars in a year, which of which he turns over to charity. weber says there is a special bond between the two men. >> i think there is a certain respect we all have for each other. >> reporter: tucked away in the small marin county town is this home, converted in a church in the 1950ez and today st. colombo hosted the couple they were participating just as someone else who was a member

at the church. they said they both received communion and after the service, both signed the church's guest book on the walk to the car, he signed one more book. >> he said where did i get it? >> i said i have it ever since i was a little girl. >> reporter: she hold out a children's book authored by prince charles who signed and dated it. >> it's hard to believe that someone would come to our church out in the countryside and he and his wife are just really special people and just a really humble person. >> reporter: prince charles and cammiala left 20 minutes after the service came to an end, but the snapshots and memories that these parishioners will keep with them for the rest of their lives and remember that wet november day when the royal couple came to visit their small west marine county town. you can see william and kate's royal wedding live on ktvu channel 2 this friday

as england prepares for the marriage this friday of william and kate, we have been take a second look back at british royal weds and one of them occurred in 1923. it was the marriage of lady elizabeth to prince albert, younger brother. it was buy the book. coaches carried the groom and braid to their ceremony at westminster abbey and a few blocks to buckingham palace for the royal reception and would have been a footnote wedding if not for the event ten years later in january 1936 albert's older brother became king edward and less than a year later gave up his crown to marry an american divorceee and

nest in line, albert game king gore vi and his wife, the duchess of york became queen consort of atlantic and his daughters elizabeth and margaret became princesses. with his wife's encouragement, he ore came a debilitating speech impediment to rally his country. >> how to the nation has made a splendid effort towards recovery, new burdens have fallen upon it and dark clouds still overhang the whole world. yet, this is no time for despondcy. for i see this festival as a symbol of britain's abiding courage and vitality. >> flight world war ii the royal family would become a

shining example to the nation, refusing to leave even during the worst of aerial bombardments and visited the wounded and raised money for the wore effort. king george died in 1952 and his daughter, elizabeth, became queen and for the next 50 years she would be known affectionately as the queen mom overseeing the family at times nobel and at other times down right embarrassing, but through it all, she remained a symbol of human warmble and royal dignity. the woman who never expected to become a queen lived to be 101- years-old and when she died in 2002, an entire nation mourned her passing. and don't forget to tune into ktvu channel 2 this friday morning for william and kate's royal wedding. our coverage runs from 2:00 to 4:30:00 a.m.
