police are investigating two overnight shootings outside nightclubs at jack london square. ali rasmus joins us from one nightclub where two people died in gunfire. ali. >> reporter: tori, it happened just before 1:00 this morning outside this sweet jimmie's bar and restaurant on broadway between third 3 fourth streets. a little earlier this morning, some of the victims' family members have been here, two young men died in the shooting and the victims' family members were here this morning consoling each other and dealing with their loss. a short time ago, we watched as one of the victims' cars was towed away. six people were shot, two men and two women were injured, and the two men who were killed. police say around 1 this morning, a car full of people pulled up to the bar and one of men in the car tried to get into the bar and was denied access. witnesses say that's when the man pulled out a gun and started shooting.

police say 10 to 15 people were inside the bar when it happened. police have not made any arrests and they are still looking for at least one black male shooting suspect along with the rest of the people who may have been in the car with him. the sergeant told me that right now police are not ready to release a suspect or vehicle description just yet. right around the same time this shooting happened, police responded to another call about shots fired, just a few blocks away from here, also in the jack london square neighborhood. a man was found shot outside kimball's nightclub and bar and was taken to the hospital in stable condition. police don't know if the two shoot, are related, but in the case of the shooting here at sweet jimmie's there are several witnesses who saw the vehicles, who saw what happened, and police have been interviewing them since early this morning. reporting live, ali rasmus, ktvu channel 2 news. the cause of an overnight fire in san francisco is being investigated this morning.

it happened about 12:30 this morning on powell street between vallejo and green streets. here's the scene. the fire started in the outside stairwell of the second floor. three people were treated for smoke inhalation. one of them cut his foot on some of the glass outside. and a woman today is called a hero. she actually carried an elderly man down the stairs to safety. >> i pity him. because he on the top floor. and -- not open. i saw the smoke, and fire. >> at least six of the residents won't be allowed become into their homes for some time. arson investigators you can see they're there at the scene, they wouldn't say yet that the fire was suspicious or an accident. uc berkeley police checking

to several peeping incidents on campus. two incidents occurred last monday while women were taking showers at deutch hall. four more cases reported at deutch hall. the beverly clearing and the clark kerr campus residence halls. police say they've identified a suspect in one or possibly both incidents on monday. the women say a man with spikey black hair was petering over the sure stall wall. petaluma police want your help in identifying three suspects in the jewelry heist. burglars now look at this, this is a surveillance photo at hollingsworth gallery. you can see the april 12 date on this picture. they broke in through a front window, smashed display cases and stole the jewelry. investigators just released this image yesterday. they say the getaway car was a white four-door nissan maxima

or altima, and it had tinted windows. more community patrols are being ford to fight back against prostitution this. week some residents will start training to take part in patrols of well-known prostitution areas. they could reportedly hit the streets by the end of the week. city leaders blame the economy for an increase in prostitution. a task force is considering dozens of recommendations to deal with the problem, including placing pictures of convicted johns on billboards. a federal mediator is joining talks between native americans and the city of vallejo today as the two sides try to reach a compromise over a proposed park. the city wants to build the park on the 15-acre glen cove site. the park calls for a parking lot, toilets, and benches. native american activists say the plans would desecrate the land they believe is a sacred burial ground. some homeowners tell ktvu they

support the park. bart needs to buy new seats for bart trains and they want you to help pick them out. ktvu's kristin joins us live in oakland to tell us what you can do. goods morning, christian. >> reporter: good morning. we're seated in one of bart's seating labs. you can see on the aisle, these green area, what they're measuring is aisle width. that's one of the areas they're going to be measuring. one of the other issues that will come up somewhat down the road is seating designs and what kinds of materials people would like on their seats. if you come over to this area of the display, you can see they have a mockup of a couple different types this. one has cloth on it and this one to the right is a harder seat and easier to clean. we talked with some bart riders, they say when it comes down to more comfortable seats versus seats easier to clean, the decision for them is very

that morning commute on bart or car, let's go to sal to see how the morning commute is shaping up. >> doing well, christian. not bad. it's not bad on bart at all right now. the trains are moving on time. let's show you bart may be your best option today because it's kinds of that very light rain that's moving through. but the rain nevertheless, and it may slow down your commute. we haven't had that many crashes but the speeds are down because of the wet weather. let's look at interstate 880. it's moving through here. the wet weather. and the traffic is moving well past the coliseum. and this morning's drive on highway 87 near 280, we had a little crash there, but the commute is getting slow. now southbound 280, slow, unusually slow this morning. northbound 280 not so bad yet. we'll see what happens later on. let's go to steve. >> thank you, sir. cloudy skies, kind of light drizzle and rain, fog as well. about for our five observations

documents about the terrorism suspects in guantanamo bay prison in cuba. ktvu's carol hahn is live in our washington, d.c. newsroom with the disturbing details. carol. >> reporter: the classified documents give us intelligence assessments on nearly every one of the 779 detainees held at guantanamo bay since 2002. they're rankeds according to how likely they were to pose a threat if released. about 200 of the high risk prisoners were either freed or passed on to their government. s and some prisoners were held on shaky evidence and mentioned harsh interrogation tactics. and this, discovery that a former detainee with ties to al- qaeda is now training rebel forces in libya. security analysts call the intel interesting, but not earth-shattering. >> basic knowledge. events after 9/11. they fill in teams these are not the crowned jewels but they are interesting. >> the pentagon is calling the decision to publish the document tsu unfortunate, adding they only give an

incomplete snapshot of the situation. >> thank you. a man with a knife tried to hijack a air talia flight last night. with us say for the throat of a flight attendant, held her for a couple minutes, then demanded to be flown to libya. but he was overpowered by other flight attendants and by passengers. he was arrested when that plane landed in rome. more than 450 prisoners escaped from an afghan prison in kandahar. we just got this in from outside the prison today. the taliban says it spent five months digging a 1,000-foot tunnel into that prison. it took about four hours to get all those prison inmates out. most of those who escaped, a taliban fighters. afghan officials say police were able to recapture 13 of them. a nato airstrike in libya

again targeted the compound of gaddafi gaddafi in tripoli. supporters of the libyan leader gathered at the site of the bomb. it's an attempted on colonel gaddafi's life. it destroyed a building and office and bandly damaged a reception hall. last month a nato missile targeted an administration building. and some young libyans are finding inspiration to fight in music. ♪ ♪ rebel musicians are turning to rock and rap to do their own battle with moammar gaddafi. they say they would never have been allowed to produce this kind of revolution music if they were still living in tripoli or other areas still under the libyan leader's control. the nationwide manhunt continues this morning for a man suspected of trying to blow up a colorado shopping mall

near columbine high school. the fbi says 65-year-old earl moore planted a crude pipe bomb and two propane tanks inside a mall about 2 miles from columbine high. agents found the explosives last week on the 12th anniversary of that high school massacre. there's no word of possible motive in this. moore had just been released from federal prison after spending six years for armed robbery. a suspected sniper is in the los angeles county jail this morning. that is after a frightening incident involving a police helicopter. a look at this this. was the scene near the van nuys airport yesterday. police scrambled to try to stop the sniper who was firing shots at a police helicopter. bullets from his automatic weapon actually hit the chopper's fuel tank and forced it to make an emergency landing. luckily, no one was hurt. a family member of the sniper eventually stopped the suspect,

said to be an 18-year-old man. police still aren't sure what led to that attack. just 15 minutes ago, new numbers came out that show a rise in home sales. the commerce department just reported an 11% increase in new home sale purchases last month. that follows three straight months of lower sales. but economists say the pace is still well below what they view as economically healthy. new stanford research offers hope for kids suffering severe food allergies. eight foods responsible for -- are responsible for 90% of food allergies. they are milk, eggs, peanuts, fish, shellfish, soy, wheat and tree nuts. the 10 kids were all extremely sensitive to milk so researchers desensitized them by giving them a drug that suppresses the allergy. the kids could then eat carrie products and build up an immunity. all of them can now eat dairy

a berkeley based music store is being named the best in the u.s. the owners of amoeba music say they offered the largest collection of records in the world. that prompted a best rating from "rolling stone" magazine. the store often purchases over 1,000 new and used records every day. many people continue to shop there despite the popularity of

online sales. they have stores in berkeley, san francisco, and los angeles. and plans to begin online sales soon for records, cd's and mp3 files. at&t is now selling a portable cell phone antenna that fits insides a suitcase it. could help rescue crews who wouldn't be able to get cell phone service after a disaster. it works with a satellite dish, which would have to be carried separately. but search and rescue teams would not center to wait for new cell phone towers to be built, before they could start communicating, with people outside a disaster zone. police are warning people about not securing their wireless reuters. there are many reports of people getting frustrated at setting up a password and just giving up. when someone else use the unsecured reutter to download something illegal, the account holder is blamed. and investigators say if hackers use your unsecured reutter, you become the prime suspect some police are advising everyone to get a

password to protect their wireless routers. the new survey of gasoline prices says gas prices may have already peaked for the year. they are up almost 12 cents in the last two weeks. but someone have a says it's slowing down. the national average price for a gal of regular is now 3.88. as usual, that's a lot lower than what we're paying in the bay area. the average for san francisco is 4.28. it's a nickel less in the east and south bays. >> lot to film the car! all right. we want to check in with sal, see how things are moving on this monday morning. >> all right, it's doing pretty well around the bay area. except for that wet weather. looks like the middle of the winter day here in oakland on 880, north and southbound. a little wind and rain but you can see traffic is going to be moving along all right. when you get to the toll plaza, the backup is for about 15

once again a problem with oakland police radios led to a critical communication breakdown. the latest trouble came yesterday, during a high-speed chase and manhunt along martin luther king way. police cornered a man who crashed a stolen car. but their radios kept cutting in and out. frustrated officers are forced to use cell phones, which led to confusion, just as officers were moving in. >> sometimes they don't work. sometimes they're in and out. sometimes they go over each other. it's hard to explain. it does different stuff.

>> officers finally gave up on the search after two hours. the suspect is still on the run this morning. police later discovered one radio was stuck open, which garbled transmissions. it was the latest fluke in a frustrating system. police made arrests in one of two separate street robberies in san francisco's mission district. the most recent happened early saturday morning at 24th and mission streets. police say four attackers knocked two men to the ground and stole their cash. police arrested all four suspects. on friday police say a man was knocked to the ground on follow some street and pistol-whipped. three men took his laptop and phone. a search for the suspects in that attack continues. there are now two federal lawsuits facing the san jose police department accusing officers of excessive force and racial profiling. there's been no comment from the police department because these cases are ongoing. in both cases, complaints allegedly were filed by

latinos. that's according to the san jose mercury news. one man claims a police officer beat him three years ago, and fractured his eye socket. another complaint allegedly claims a police officer ran over him with a patrol car during a chase in 2009. search crews are busy, going back to the king's canyon national park today to search for an 11-year-old boy believed to be dead. the new jersey boy disappeared friday after going hiking with his family. search crews have been focusing their efforts near a creek, in the park. it's believed the young man fell into the water. on saturday crews did recover some of his clothing downstream. they say it's unlikely he could survive in that cold water. this morning livermore police are stepping up their search for a man blamed for several attacks on women. the latest happened yesterday morning. police say a man pulled down a woman's jogging shorts and then

ran off. the 19-year-old woman was not hurt. her attacker is described as a latino man in his 40s, 5 feet 8 inches tall, about 200 pound. he has a mustache and wearing a gray t-shirt and jeans. there was an easter morning tragedy in washington state, and there's home video of it. >> oh, my god! >> what was it? >> look at this. firefighters inside this huge house fire found the bodies of six people, burning. it happened in the washington state city of vancouver. emergency crews are still searching -- sifting through that, looking through possibly more victims. and children are among the missing. last week's warehouse fire at the apple plant in watsonville took a deadly toll on wildlife. fish and game says hundreds of fish in the nearly watsonville slew were killed. debris and soot from this burning warehouse filed into the water.

foam used by firefighters may have also killed off some of the fish. this fire started wednesday, took firefighters two days to put it out. a bicyclist found unconscious in the street in livermore, and police are now asking if anyone has information about this to call them. a 51-year-old man was found sunday morning about 2 a.m. at the intersection of murrieta and pine street. that man is in the hospital now, but police don't know how he was hurt because he is still unconscious. he wasn't wearing a helmet. he has severe he injuries. pg&e is reportedly changing its position on spiking the pressure on natural gas lines. the san francisco chronicle is reporting the utility now supports a proposed state rule banning spikes with some exceptions. pg&e previously argued that federal regulations required spiking in order to test pipelines and that the practice was safe. among the lines the company

spiked was the one that exploded in san bruno last september. it was spiked back in december 2003 and again in 2008. today, tomorrow pg&e will hold informational meetings in mountain view as it prepares to test pipelines that have similar characteristics to the one that exploded in san bruno. mountainview will be one of first places tested starting next month. tonight's meeting starts at 5:30. tornado clean- continues today in st. louis, more than 700 homes were damaged. the airport's main terminal, the roof was torn off. a lot of windows were shattered. coming up at 7:48, we'll have a live report and get a firsthand look at some of the damage this morning. one of san francisco's cable car lines will be partially shut down this week. starting today, half of the powell high line will be closed for maintenance. it will last through friday.

cable cars will run from market up powell, but stop at jackson and buses will go the rest of the way. the good news is, your commute will actually cost less. cable car fares will drop from $5 to $2 this week. during the repairs some that's one commute that is getting cheaper. >> i'm sure! it's going to be affected and sal is watching the toll ms.a and everything else in our commute this morning. >> that's right, we have a crash on the bay bridge, i want to take you to the toll plaza and show you westbound traffic is barely moving. and now the 880 ramp is really slow on westbound approach to the bay bridge. there's a crash up on the upper deck of the bridge. normally we would be able to see it, but the -- but the both is too band to turn it. there are no major problems there as you are driving up to the -- after you get on the bridge, after you pass the incline section. just trying to find out the

firefighters. it says for profit fire protection, a risk we can't afford. now, on friday and saturday, more than 100 firefighters from all over the bay area went door to door on the peninsula, handing out fliers, urging people to come to this meeting tonight at the city council and speak up for public safety. san carlos is divorcing belmont in the fall. their fire departments are separating, and here are the three options on the table. san carlos could become a stand- alone department, which would be pricy. it could merge with redwood city or they could contract out with whack hunt, a private security company. this could really change the way that we look at local fire departments, couldn't it? >> it certainly would. it would install a profit motive into a service oriented organization. we're in the service business, we're not in the profit business. installing profit and bringing shareholders with guys on the

meteorologists rick about 20 miles from st. louis, and bridgeton, missouri, where some of the areas look like disaster jones. what is going on out there? >> reporter: yeah, they certainly do. it's an ef-4 tornado, so wind both about 165 to 200 miles an hour. they hit through this community and you can see what it left behind. these are flimsy structures. these were very solid structures made of brick. you get this kind of destruction and that tells you it's very strong and in this case they've surveyed at ef-4 tornado. look down the street, you can see cars still flipped upside- down. we're 2 1/2 days out from this tornado. and this is what you see. and i think it's all beginning to settle in for people. they've looked for anything they can find to salvage, pictures, heirlooms, and now they have to begin the demolition and beginning to just clean everything up and eventually get in bulldozers

square. ali rases muss has been there for the past four hours. what is the latest? >> reporter: dave, the most violent shooting happened on broadway in front of the sweet jimmie's bar and restaurant. just a couple blocks to the west of it is the entrance to jack london square, and the opposite vied of the street, three blocks east of where the shooting happened is police headquarters. two men were killed in this shooting. the family members of the victims were at the screen early this morning consoling one another and trying to deal with their loss. and they watched as their loved ones' car was towed away just about an hour ago. along with the two men killed, four other people were shot and injured in front of sweet jimmie's bar in morning. it happened at just before 1:00. police say that's when a car full of people pulled up to the bar and then one of the men in the car tried to walk into the bar, but wasn't allowed inside. we don't know why. witnesses said that's when the

man pulled out a gun and started shooting. we've contacted police and are still waiting to hear back with updates. one of the sergeants said police are still looking for the shooting suspect, and the sergeant said he was not yet ready to release a suspect or vehicle description yet. around the same time the shooting happened, police responded to a call about shots fired at another bar around the block. a man was found shot inside kim billion's bar on second and washington streets and police couldn't tell us if that shooting and the one outside sweet jimmie's were related. back out here live, show you behind me nation's hamburgers is here, and it was open when the shooting happened. i talked to the manager there, and she took the time to show me about 20 minutes of their surveillance video. but the cameras are mounted inside the restaurant, so unfortunately you can't see

over the shower stall wall. petaluma police asking for help in identifying three suspects in a jewelry heist. the burglars are seen in this surveillance photo at hollingsworth jewelers on petaluma boulevard. you can see it the april 12th date on the photo. they broke in through a front window and smashed display cases to get to the jewelry. investigators released this image yesterday. they say the getaway car was a white four-door nissan maxima or altima with tinted windows. more community cools formed in vallejo to fight back against prostitution this. broke some residents will start training to be part of paroles of well-known prostitution areas. they could reportedly hit the streets by the end of the week. officials blame the economy for an increase in prostitution. a task force is considering dozens of recommendations to deal with the problem, including placing the photos of convicted johns on billboards. native americans in the city of vallejo are trying to come up with a compromise over

paris to rome last night. witnesses say he put a small knife to the flight of a flight attendant and held her for a few minutes. then he demanded to be flown to libya but was overpowered by other passengers. he was arrested in rome. more than 450 prisoners escaped from a prison in afghanistan today. this is new video from outside the prison in kandahar this morning. the taliban says it spent five months digging a 1,000-foot tunnel into the prison, and that it took four hours to get all the prisoners out. most of those who escaped are taliban fighters. an investigation is underway to find out if some prison guards were in on the plot. a nato airstrike in libya again targeted the compound of moammar gaddafi in tripoli. you're looking at supporters of gaddafi, gathered at the site of the bombing. look a little these pictures. the government says the airstrike was an attempt to

high. agents found the exposives last week on the 12th anniversary of the columbine massacre. there's no word of any possible motive. he just left federal prison after spending six years inside for armed robbery. a suspected sniper is in the los angeles county jail this morning. that's after a frightening incident involving a police helicopter. this was the scene at a van nuys airport yesterday. police scrambled to stop a sniper who fired at a police helicopter. bullets from the automatic weapon hit the chopper's fuel tank, forcing the pilot to make an emergency landing. no one was hurt. a family member eventually stopped the suspect who is said to be 18 years old. police are not sure about a motive for this attack. just about an hour ago, some new government numbers came out showing a rise, a slight rise, in the sales of new homes. the commerce department just

reported an 11% increase in new home sales last month. that follows three straight months of lower sales. however, the economists say the pace is still well below what they call economically healthy. new stanford research offering hope for children suffering from severe food allergies. eight foods responsible for 90% of food allergies include milk, eggs, pee nurse, fish, shellfish, soy, wheat, and tree nuts. the 10 kids in the study were extremely sensitive to milk. researchers desensitized them and i giving this. a drug that they say suppresses the allergy. the children then had a chance to eat dairy products and build up an immunity. all of them can now eat dairy products without taking that drug. researchers hope to expand the test to include other foods. some students at uc berkeley will get to hear from

the new survey of gasoline prices says gas prices may have already peaked for the year. gas prices are up almost 12 cents in the last two weeks. but one survey says it's slowing down. the national average price for a gallon of regular gas is now $3.88. as usual that's a much lower than what we're paying here in the bay area. the average for san francisco is $4.28. it's a nickel less in the east and south bay. sony now says its playstation network was hacked and the system was knocked out last wednesday. sony doesn't know how the hacker got in but allows gamers

door on the peninsula, handing out the fliers, urging people to come to the meeting and support them. san carlos' fire department is divorcing belmont in the fall. so here are the three options under consideration tonight. it could become a stand-alone department it. could merge with redwood city. or the city could contract out with a private security company. firefighters here say whack end hunt has only had one contract with the city for fire services and it ended badly. >> they were there all seven months. they ended up having quite a few problems, ultimately resulting in a firefighter being killed on the grass fire and osha coming in and citing the company because they weren't properly equipped. >> san carlos' mayor says the city has a 3 1/2 million dollar budget deficit and it needs to trim somewhere. firefighters say they've offered pension cuts and other ways to help the city, but the city is determined to break up the department for political

two hours. that suspect still on the run this morning. police later found out one radio was stuck open, and that garbled transmission. police have made arrests in one of two separate street robberies in san francisco's mission district. the most recent one happened early saturday morning at 24th and mission streets. police say four attackers knocked two men to the ground, stole their cash. four suspects have been arrested. on friday, police say a man was knocked to the ground on follow some street and pistol-whipped. three men took his laptop, as well as his phone. the search for those suspects continues. the san jose police department is now facing two federal lawsuits accusing officers of excessive force and racial profiling. there is no comment yet from the police department because the cases are ongoing. the san jose mercury news reports both cases were filed by latinos. reportedly one man claims the

police officer beat him three years ago, and fractured his eye socket. another complaint claims an officer ran over him with a patrol car during a chase in 2009. search crews will be back at the king's canyon national park today. they're looking for an 11-year- old boy who is feared dead. the new jersey boy disappeared on friday after hiking with his family in the park east of fresno. search crews have been concentrating their efforts near a creek in the park. it's believed the boy fell into the water on saturday crews recovered some of the boy's clothing downstream. they say it's unlikely the boy could sur save in such cold water. livermore police searching for a man blamed for several attacks on women. the latest one happened yesterday morning. police say a man pulled down the woman's jogging shorts, then ran away. the 19-year-old woman was not hurt. her attacker is described as a latino man in his 40s, about 5-

foot 8 inches tall, weighing about 200 pounds. an easter morning tragedy in washington state. >> oh, my god! >> what was it? >> firefighters found the bodies of six people inside a burning home early yesterday morning. it happened in the washington state city of vancouver. emergency crews are still looking for more victims and children are among the missing. last week's warehouse fire in watsonville took a deadly toll on local wildlife. hundreds of fish in the nearby watsonville slew were killed. debris and soot from the burning warehouse crept in the water. the foam used by firefighters may have also killed some of the fish. the fire started on wednesday and took firefighters two days to put out. pg&e reportedly changing

its position on the spike in the pressure on natural gas lines. san francisco chronicle is reporting pg&e supports a proposed state rule banning spiking with some exceptions. pg&e previously argued that federal regulations required spiking in order to test the pipelines and that the practice was safe. among the pipelines the company's fight was one that exploded in san bruno last september. it was spiked back in december 2003, and in 2008. today and tomorrow pg&e will hold informational meetings in mountainview as they prepare to test natural gas pipelines that have similar characteristics to ones that blew up in san bruno. mountain view will be one of first places tested, beginning next month. tonight's meeting will begin at 5:30. happening as we speak, right now, look at these beautiful cars. these are classic cars, and as

it's 8:55. antioch police investigating a weekend shooting, but they're getting no help from the shooting victim. yesterday police interviewed a 24-year-old man who showed up at a hospital seeking treatment for several gunshot wounds. he told them he was shot somewhere in antioch. but he refused to tell them anything else and police did not receive any reports of a shooting. the family of a san jose toddler killed by a falling tree is suing the city and the property owners. two-year-old mateo ortiz was killed in january of last year. a large maple tree with root rot fell on his family's truck, trapping the family. it took an hour to free him, and he later dried at the
