right now. but at the time when mr. employee unions are still negotiating with the city, so some workers know they might get pink slips but still keep their job. >> you can stress about it and worry about it but it's not going to get you anything. >> reporter: state police truong got a pink slip this morning. >> what am i going to do july 1st, what am i going to do. >> reporter: san jose plans to lay off 400 positions. 230 workers will be demoted or bump other people in other jobs due to seniority. some jobs could be saved if more unions followed the lead of firefighters and agreed to a voluntary 10% pay cut. similar 20 firefighters are expected to get pink slips, they won't find out until july if their jobs will be cut.

public's help identifying a man in recovery there. this man arrived on monday april 11th. hospital officials say he was found in berno heights and was in critical condition. he has since improved but is still incoherent. and the staff still don't know how he was hurt. anyone who knows his name, family or friends is asked to call the hospital. state official general camila harris is the -- >> dealing with the supply piece and understanding that this drug is the main ingredient used to manufacture this narcotic. harris is talking about pseudo ephedrin which is used to make crystal meth. school in oakland is in

shot. >> the children took it very bad. yesterday was a hard day for them. some became very emotional they had to be taken home. >> reporter: williams was known for his repore with children. >> always smiling. a genuine love for kids. i can't think of the number of times that he's put his arm around a kid or you know, found some way to pump them up instead of tear them down. >> reporter: williams leaves behind his four year sold and mother another beloved employee at the same school. parents are concerned about their own children. >> i don't know how much i can help her understand this. because i don't either. >> officials at the school which have counselor on hand this week say they are planning adams walk for peace. they plan to have children participate in this walk to remember williams. state lawmakers failed to pass a bill that would have restricted the online activity of registers sex offendsers.

the bill would require offenders to provide the name of their online providers along with their online aliases. five children have been arrested from breaking into a school, trashing the place and also torturing a hamster to death. a woman called police after hearing noise and children running away. sheriff deputies found the suspects less than a half mile away. they do not go to that school. the city of oakland is now going after property owners and banks and holding them accountable for blithe left blind in forclosed homes. paul chambers is life with how the city is doing it. >> reporter: the city uses a plan that allows them to put a

hefty fine on banks that leave homes heavily blithed. city workers are looking at 300 homes to determine if they are blithe. >> we're talking about surge, we're talking about rodents and roaches. >> they become crime spots, crime magnets. they become eyesores in neighborhoods. the banks are being totally irresponsible on this issue. >> reporter: if the city thinks the home is blithed, they give the property owner 30 days to clean it up. if that doesn't happen, a $1,000 fine goes up for every day it remains untouched. >> we will get our money on the transfer. >> reporter: oftentimes the bank allows the fines to be paid by future owners.

>> they drag their feet. there's no reason we're this far behind. >> we don't need to go out and have coffee and tea and talk to the banks about it. we just need to impose the fine and collect the money. >> reporter: we contacted one local bank about the blithe issue. they said once it's brought to its attention action takes place. >> we have a property preservation group to make sure the property is well maintained, and clean. >> reporter: the city has not imposed the law but they plan to do that. they've already inspected 178 homes so far this month. live in oakland, i'm paul chambers. ktvu news. we are getting a closer look tonight at facebook's plan to move to menlo park. they want to have 9,500 people working at the new campus. this video from news chopper two shows the site located at bay front parkway and willow road. facebook says it now has more than 2,000 employees worldwide.

stocks hit a high note today, investors rallied from companies like ford and words that consumers worries over rising car prices and unemployment have eased. both the dow jones and s & p hit the highest level since the end of the financial crisis. the nasdaq also ended the day up. governor brown told workers to stop taking work related trips. the governor says travel deemed essential such as trips audit and collecting revenue will have to be reviewed and then approved. today's orders is just the latest on a cash trimming effort by the governor. brown previously imposed a hiring freeze and cut back state issued cell phones and vehicles. the state controller today published the latest report in the tiny city of bell in

southern california. today's data comes from 533 special districts in california. it covers $357 million in payroll. 84% of all special districts filed their payroll reports but 16% did not and face a $5,000 fine as a result. you could find out just how much these state employees make on our website at ktvu.com just click on web links. we should find out in about 30 days if a petition to ban circumcision in san francisco will be on the november ballot. san francisco resident lloyd shofeld he wants to ban circumcision in males under the age of 18. the city's department of elections tells us the signatures have been submitted. shofeld claims he has over 12,000 signatures way more than the 7,100 or so needed to put the proposal on the ballot. right now in berkeley, a group of homeless advocates is

staging a rally for a city wide sit lie ordnance. there's no proposal on the table. but merchants are pushing for a law banning people from sitting on berkeley's sidewalks during office hours. google is known for its employee perks, from meals to massages. but the company revealed today another free benefit to its workers that might surprise you. it's called google workshops. it's a rented garage equipped with machinery enabling employees from building cabinets to boxes. a bit of a warm up today, temperatures are going to trend down just a little bit in the next couple of days. i'll let you know what you can expect in your neighborhood.

better than this. >> minimizing exposure in the first place. if you can do that that will further prevent melanoma. >> you could see cancer fighting sunscreen in as few as five years. uc berkeley's hall of science has chosen south vallejo as the sight of the new science center. it is set to open next week on magazine street. the project is part of a two year study by the museum on expanding it's youth and family science programs to other parts of the bay area. the museum is raising funds to keep the new center open beyond two years. more than a foot of rain in recent days has caused a levy to break. the report has been massive flooding near the city of poplar bluff. officials rescued at least 25 people from rising water. right now there's no relief in

sight with forcasters warning of more rain. the state's governor toured the destruction from yesterday's storm which caused serious flooding and at least one tornado. officials say there have been at least 12 weather related deaths. boy the weather back there is really something. over to our chief meteorologist bill martin. you have the weather behind you and it is really lit up in the midwest. >> it really is. this is their time of year for tornadoes. there's numerous tornado watches, sorry about that bad move there we have a little issue with the movement. memphis right now these are severe thunderstorms. there are flood warnings, flood watches, it's all going on out there. the impact to us is going to be if you have any travel plans tomorrow. you're certainly going to see some delays starting now in some of those cities from memphis, north of st. louis not north of st. louis but toward

the great lakes region. and again the they've had numerous days in a row of this. last week or is they've had numerous tornadoes and more with this. we'll update the situation there. for us we're on a pattern that is very spring like. it's going to be nice. temperatures today did warm up. we saw some 60s, upper 60s. temperatures tomorrow a little cooler. because this weak system to the north is just going to tweak by. and look at the rain, it's north. but it's not that far out of our district and that's why temperatures haven't sprung back into where you might expect them for this time of year. they will spring back as we get into this bay area weekend. the jet stream is still close to us. partly cloudy, mostly cloudy tomorrow. breezy along the coast and breezy as well along the bay. the computer model shows the clouds moving in tonight and then again tomorrow. tomorrow morning you see clouds up in santa rosa. no rain, then here comes the ban of clouds about 3:00, 4:00.
