and sympathy. >> reporter: they attended a private memorial service for her this afternoon at this church. they are set to return to germany tomorrow. david stevenson, ktvu channel 2 news. san francisco's new police chief was sworn in. >> i am a fourth generation born and raised san franciscan. i am a local hire. and i love this city. >> greg suhr got choked up as he accepted his new job. we sat down with greg suhr this afternoon and he has no plans to make any major changes. >> i don't think i have anything in mind that i will shock anybody. but i am about crime suppression and community policing. >> greg suhr is a 30 year veteran of the department.

greg suhr had a rocky road to top cop. in 2003 he was indicted in a scandal but later cleared. in 2005 he was demoted after a protest turned violent. and in 2009 he was demoted to captain when he was accused of failing to report a domestic violence attack involving a female friend. police arrested a man found living with a decomposing body. someone reported a foul smell at the apartment last night. inside officers found the body of a 30-year-old woman. they do not know how she died. police arrested him for failing to report the death. investigators don't know the relationship between them. joseph naso told a judge today he will handle his

defense himself. ktvu's mike mibach was inside the courtroom where he was supposed to enter a plea to four counts of murder. >> reporter: no talk of a plea today. joseph naso escorted from the jail to the courthouse. i was there, second row when joseph naso made his announcement. >> at this point joseph naso indicated he wants to represent himself. >> reporter: accused of killing four women. seen here two weeks ago, said he gave the case a lot of thought while being by himself. today's first words on record inside the courtroom, telling the juge his name is naso.
