>> good morning. the day is finally here for prince william and kate middleton. thousands of well-wishers hoping to get a glimpse of members of the royal family. >> westminster abbey is where

the wedding will take place in just about an hour. it has been transformed to look like a lavish country garden. that is appropriate. that is where we are. eight 20-foot high treason brought in for this location. >> welcome to this fox news special coverage of this royal wedding. i am jon scott. joining me is jenna lee. >> we have left our hats at home. we have seen quite a parade of hats. >> a cloudy day in britain but no rain. all kinds of color. britain can be a bit drab. all kinds of caller this morning.

>> we are about to launch into our main guests. we have seen the guests arriving. we're inching towards the main event. ♪ fox newsky to have our special correspondent for the royal wedding. kate middleton will enter westminster abbey as a commoner. schul exit a member of the royal family -- she will exit a member of the royal family. this fairy tale love story has been in the making for a while. this is something we will be celebrating for the next several hours, jon. >> but the procession -- look at the procession. [inaudible]

>> joining us again is joan lunden who was been at several events over the last several years. you were there for the funeral of diana that took place at the same spot we're looking at. your thoughts as we enter into what will be a celebration of these young people coming together. >> i remember so well. it was at st. paul's. the guests or more state invited guests. we're seeing that you have all of the friends of william and kate. titanic did not go to a college and have those -- diana did not go to a college and have those kinds of friends. she spent the night before alone. they brought her dinner on a tray.

see kate middleton inviting people from her home town. it is such a different approach to a wedding. it is almost like this is the wedding of a young couple. we get to have a peek at. >> the guests are coming from her home town. the butcher, the postman. who knew they would get invitations? >> i think they have tried to keep it as a people's kind of wedding. that is the kind of young royals that they want to be. the truly love each other. we did not know as all of us went to britain to cover the wedding of charles and diana, it is a fairy tale. i had somebody on set with me, a royal watcher. during a commercial break, --

there was a procession to st. paul's. she said the next carriage as bowles. parker we looked at him. he was such a flamboyant character. we did not know what to make of him. that was unsubstantiated. we learned years later that everything he was telling us was absolutely true. we were not aware that diana knew as much about camilla as she did when she entered st. paul's cathedral. she later said she was looking right to left to see where camilla was seated. this morning, i don't think anyone can walk in there this rning and not think about her. it is below bit sad, that she is not there, sitting in the front pew to watch william, who she

always called ddg, and that is for "drop dead gorgeous." that was her nickname for william. >> when we first heard kate middleton with diana's rain, he sure it is my way of making wa my mother did not miss out. you mentioned the breaking up of the fairy tale as we thought it was decades ago. this time around, doesn't seem to hold the fairy tale? >> absolutely. think about some of the guests. elton john only met william once. that was an invitation to keep diana's presence there. the whole world -- we wanted that fairy tale. think about this.

if they pass out legislation in parliament and all the other colonies were the first born child could be heir to the throne and if they had a girl and william and kate named her as diana, we would have queen diana of england. that fairy tale the way it was supposed to end the first time around. there are so many stresses put on any young couple today, but certainly a young couple in this position. she is bound to become -- she is the beautiful princess in our very tell once again. it is inevitable that she is to become the most photographed person in the world. diana would have been 50 years old on july 9. she would have been so incredibly proud if she could have seen william married into a

family like the middletons because that is what is she so desperately wanted and did not get by marrying into the royal family. >> we see david beckham and victoria beckham. the royal family will be departing buckingham palace in just a few minutes. jon has been looked at the route they will be taking as william takes his final roll through the streets as a single command. >> somebody should tell posh spice that her hat is coming off -- his final roll through the streets as a single man. >> look at the security closing period. let's see if we can get the touch screen working. all of this area has been swept and checked by dogs and

helicopters. thousands of police are protected in this area. buckingham palace is the official residence of the queen. the place has 775 rooms including 62 bedrooms and 188 for the staff. clarence house is where prince charles and his boys are, the official london residence of prince charles and camilla parker bowles. it was the home of queen elizabeth, who died back in 2002. the route will take them past the parade ground, a very historic place. and then down the street, past the home of the prime minister, the ultimate 16 80's -- built in the 1680's.

then the icon of all of london, big ben, the largest clock in the world. and then, the last significant stop before the royal family arrives at westminster abbey. it has been the church were kings and queens have been crowned since 1066, 1000 years of history. princess diana's funeral was held bacchant 1997. it is a huge edifice and seats about 2000 people. many will not be able to see the bride and groom at the altar because of the way the seating is set up. so much is behind the choir loft. >> we will take you inside the

abbey. 1000 years of history. eight years of dating for prince william and kate middleton. six months of engagement. it has been quite a road as we wait and watch to see prince william and his brother depart at any moment. >> they have spent a lot of time in trying to figure out everybody insideeat the attic. they were dying to have a boil and they had the yen. they kept trying and they had charles. diana's mom left and went somebody -- and met and married somebody else. there is a lot of significance. there was a big seating the dilemma of this entire wedding.

the crowds singing and cheering as this procession begins. >> what are we all waiting for? the dress. >> what else is there? >> you are fox charles did not t

married at the abbey. print abbey did. he would sarah ferguson in 1986. sarah ferguson in 1986. >> half of the royal couple is on the move. there is prince william in the back of that limousine, on the way to his wedding at westminster abbey. we understand the prince and his brother are expected to arrive

earlier than the bride will. they want to greet some friends. there will be arriving well in advance. he looks happy. the crowd looks happy to see him. their motorcade. >> you can hear the crowd cheering. >> that is about 85-minute drive from the clarence house to westminster abbey. william does not have to walk down that aisle. that is about 84 or 5-minute trip. that is something kate middleton will have to do -- that is about a four or five-minute trip. him along with his brother, a special trip. a special jury for both of them. there will be a survivor breakfast tomorrow morning, if

everybody makes it through the night of celebration. that will be a special role as best man. >> you might remember the prince charles and princess diana arrived at their wedding ceremony in a horse-torn carriage -- a horse-drawn carriage. they will be departing westminster abbey as a married couple by coach, by royal coach. it is the same one in which prince charles and princess diana rode after they wed. listen to the crowd. [cheers]

i hate to tell you but this wedding is already behind schedule. they are two minutes late. this has been scripted very closely. the original plant was to have prince william and his brother arrived at westminster abbey at 15 minutes past the hour. it is now 70 minutes past. they are still on route -- is now 17 minutes past. more than 1 million people expected to line the motorcade route in that secure zone.

all those people having been checked. police keeping a close eye to make sure there is no trouble whatsoever. the television audience, we thank you for joining us and spending part of your morning with us. you are among 2.5 billion or so of your closest friends watching around the world. [cheers] joined outside the palace as we watched prince william and his brother emerge. craig? we will try to reestablish our connection. you can see the red carpet at

the ready. the groom is on his way in, along with prince harry. [cheers] his famous younger brother. oh, wouldn't you like to hear what they are discussing right now? removing their hats as they enter westminster abbey, that historic cathedral in the heart

of london. we have all looked as the best man and groom have arrived. >> interesting to see that bird's-eye view. one of the most recognized churches in the world. there have been 38 coronations. the final resting place for 17 marks. 15 oral weddings. the wedding of william and kate will make 16. -- 15 royal weddings. not such a great view. they are blocked by the entrance to the choir. the first rows will have the choirs for today's ceremony. seated behind the choirs will beat government officials and some friends. as kate approached the altar, her family will be seated on her

left at the north lantern. next to them will be the spencer family. on the opposite side, and kate's right, she will see the king and the rest of the royal family. that is the south lantern. she is surrounded. she has focused on both sides. the wedding kneeler will be placed. the couple will move to the shrine of st. edward's to sign the marriage registers, making the event official. we will probably not see that part. it is all set to begin with kate as she begins at the top of the hour. walkingin the princes down as we see this event. a few minutes behind. they waited a while for the state to come pick but they are

wearing the uniform of the kernel of the irish guards. he is commissioned in all three of the ira's services -- of the of the irish guards. prince henrik wearing the blues and royals -- prince henry wearing the blues and royals. being represented in the uniforms that these brothers have chosen to wear william's wedding day. they arrived early because they wanted to have these 45 minutes or so until the ceremony actually begins. they wanted to have this time to greet family and friends who have gathered in this most historic edifice, westminster abbey, where that man right there is about to make catherine his bride.

i guess she becomes a duchess. >> duchess of cambridge. that is one of the titles that was bestowed on prince william today by the queen. that has stood out most of all. kate has to wait to make this, take her vow. we may refer to her as princess kate, but that is not an official title. maybe princess in other ways. >> if she was born a royal, she could be princess catherine. shall be princess william -- she will be princess william. >> her family is referred to as commoners. they run a major company that

provides party supplies and favors. they have done very well. millionaires in their own right. when we say, as, not necessarily the, of a middle class. a different operating in london. there is a nice view of westminster abbey. you can see the long red carpet as well as for the choir is sitting. you can see in the bacharach, that separates prince william and kate from the rest of the audience. many people will not see the go through thete ceremony. >> let's go back to london for more insight into the events of the day. the royal family. there is the lead off i add - dodi al-fayed.

think about the father of the late princess's boyfriend being here at this event. this is catherine milton's mom .- catherine milton's mom mom.te middleton's she has been involved in the courtship of the prince. >> carol is her name. imagine that your daughter is going to get married and you have to leave for so you can before her. her father will be walking her down the aisle. you can imagine how challenging it might be on such a big day for your daughter, to have to leave for early so you can go through the ceremony that is so important to this day.

>> the european editor for usweekly.com. is joining us right now appears less talk about carol middleton. how much a part of this day is the bright's mother? >> thank you for having me -- is the bride's mother. >> she has been the driving force behind this relationship. it has been the support of the family that has seen them get to this day stronger than ever. >> as we know, there have been ups and downs in this relationship. the famously broke up several years into this relationship, william and kate did, and it is my understanding that the mother played a big role in getting them back together. >> carol was very much behind william and kate getting back

together. she sat them down and talk them through where they wanted to be in the future. i think kate has been through a hell of a time in the media. it was the support from carroll and bringing women into the middleton family. -- and bringing william into the middleton family. >> also with us is christopher anderson, author of "william and kate, a real love story." what are your observations as we watch this preparation as this family now becomes part of the royal story line of the smart the? >> i am thinking of diana. if diana had not lived and died

the way she did, would we care as much profit i don't think so. her presence and spirit hovers over all the proceedings. this is a victory for the dynamic and kate middleton. diana wants to be the people's princess. -- this is a 34 diana and kate middleton. they came from working-class stock and descended from coal miners. i think if she had not laid the to go to ther a decadkate right schools and if she had not shepherded kate and william through the famous break up, none of this would have been happening. the mothers of the bride and groom are very much felt here. >> there was a story that kate middleton had a picture of the

prince on her wall even before she got to school. >> if you set your sights on anybody, it might as well be the future king of england. diana had the same kind of interests in prince charles as a young woman. carroll has said -- kate has said it was the calvin klein got she had on her wall. i have talked to her friends to said, she had a picture of william on her wall. it was a photograph of william taken with prince charles fishing at balmoral, and kate had ripped charles out of the picture. >> we will take a quick pause. there is so many different theories as to what the breakup

happened. maybe it had something to do with prince william's father as well. they have made it to this day. 2007, that was four years ago. that is in the past. >> members of the royal family departed buckingham palace in this line of small vans. we're going to pause to taken some natural sound here in london. the motorcade is heading towards westminster abbey. we are about 30 minutes away from the beginning of the royal wedding, prince william marion kate middleton -- marrying kate middleton picket 20 minutes away from knowing what the dress is. one of the big headlines as we

taken the scene from loneople wo see the peasantry of the royal wedding. some of them there for days and days. not necessarily great weather. it has been quite chilly in london. no rain as of now. we were so glad you're with us. i am jenna lee in new york and we're joined by jon scott. >> we are watching members of the royal family who have departed buckingham palace. this is the bride's mother carol middleton arriving. we do have some information on her dresser it is sky blue with matching satin piping. i should have you read all of

this. i do not know what any of this means, jenna. >> you are doing a great job. >> let's listen in to some of the caller as she arrives to westminster abbey. [bells peal] [cheers]

>> the mother of the bride as well as her brother. we're about half an hour away from the sermon. christopher anderson is joining us. to go back to the significance of this day, you say this is a day that almost never happened. >> absolute. this is because of the breakup in 2007. what happened was on valentine's day, 2007, kate middleton had been with prince william for five days. a marriage proposal was not forthcoming. he went to his father and said, what do i do put i'm not ready to get married. he said, she is a lovely girl. you cannot strengthen her along. you have to break it off. william got on his cell phone

her work. qakate at she went to a back stockroom. employees could hear her talking. it was a very tough time. she packed up all her belongings and went home to mom and dad. she was devastated. it was carol middleton who said go out there and win him back. kate was dating other men who knew william. she was out on the town looking very happy. william became a very unraveled. they broke up on april 17. >> i guess that strategy worked out all right. >> i think she's the kind of person who had tremendous control. who could have withstood nine years of scrutiny the way kate middleton had?

people not invited to this wedding are people who spoke to the press. with all the texters girlfriends of william, most of them are there except his first college girlfriend. she did give an interview. kate's former boyfriends are there. they have set a tight circle of friends. as long as you don't talk to the press and as long as you did not betray any confidence, they want to keep the around. >> this is the duke of york departing buckingham palace. the on goal of the groom. earlier we saw carol milton walking with he.

let's talk more about who is not coming to this wedding. there were some surprises that made it controversial. >> there have been speculation about various celebrities. this is not about being a hollywood spectral -- spectacle. the only invited people who are near and dear to their lives. >> what is the mood? >> i have never seen london like this in my life. people are screaming and shouting. i have seen people sleeping outside for days on end just to get a prime spot to see these cars go by. it is an incredible feeling. >> our folks able to get a good view put it appears that the windows on these rolls-royces are clear glass and that folks

are able to see exactly who is in sight. is that the case? >> they have a polished and buffed these cars to perfection. people have been waving to the fans picked william and harry cannot last night to give a preview to some of the fans -- they came out last night to give a preview to some of the fans. >> we're watching the arrival of some of the royals as they filter in. we're about 20 minutes or so away from the big event and watching kate walk down the aisle. we have the greetings of the royals. two people will be presiding over the ceremony. there could be a few jokes to loosen everybody up. the lord archbishop of canterbury who said something

sweet this week. he said when you watch two people get married, what they're promising to do is promising to get to know each other for the rest of their lives. >> we saw the duke and duchess of kent arrived a short while ago. >> we talked about the rehearsal. william and kate have been rehearsing a special kiss. >> everyone has been focusing on the rehearsal inside westminster abbey. we have so much going on at buckingham palace later on today. the most important part is the kiss on the balcony at 1:25 p.m. sources at the palace were talking about kate and william being taught how to play this case out. there are certain spots they have to stand and so cameras can

capture the action. >> prince charles and camilla parker bowles. are they in view of your position? >> i can hear the screaming behind me. i have everything in front of me. charles is so excited for today. he was one of the first people to welcome kate into the royal fall. before even harry was welcoming kate into the family, charles was standing up for. >> four years ago, it was charles who said, you should break up with her if you are not ready to get married. >> i think charles is very straight with his words. if there were any uncertainties about proposing to kate, charles would lay out to william and explain, do it when you're ready. do not listen to the public and

not listen to what your friends are telling you. follow your heart. charles is a kind-hearted guy. >> we are watching the duke of york and camilla. we have been waiting for this wedding preparations. the role of camilla. some have said she has been the step mother who has been gracious to kate, giving her tips. you hear about the evil stepmother. which is it? >> the evil stepmother makes a great story. camilla alongside charles was one of the first to welcome kate royal into the fold. kate has received a lot of advice from camelot. it has been -- kate has received

a lot of a vice from camilla. >> this is the duke of york arriving, who has been married at the abbey. we have seen more than a dozen weddings here at the abbey. that is not the place that prince charles wed diane. >> this is eugenia and beatrice. >> can we take in the hats for a second here? they speak for themselves. moreese hates are outrageous than they were for the wedding of princess diana to prince charles some 30 years ago. >> i might say lady gaga-

inspired. >> it is a day of celebration in great britain. you're watching fox news coverage of royal wedding. bridal party. we have a few what looked like flower girls. interesting to see -- i am curious what color she is wearing. you said the queen is in yellow. the guests were told not to wear cream or white. >> prince charles about to walk down the aisle of westminster abbey with camilla parker bowles, the woman some say he wishes he actually walked down the aisle of westminster abbey with some 30 years ago when he instead married a much younger diana spencer and major princess diana. he is now married to camilla parker bowles. i was at their wedding ceremony,

outside windsor castle. they were married in the chapel some years ago. so controversial at the time. their relationship has been toward apparently for decades. so controversial but the british people seem to of warmed to camilla. and there is the queen. [cheers] [cheers]

>> right now the queen's chauffeur-driven automobile taking care through the parade. that was used as a jousting grounds at the time of henry viii. so much history in that patch of london, as we listen to the trumpet fanfare, the arrival of the queen and her husband, prince philip. [bells ring]

[cheers] >> waving the british flag, cheering the cathedral bells. it is a festive friday in london and all over the world. 2.6 billion people expected to tune in. the wedding of prince charles to diana spencer drew about 750 million. this is a much bigger world wide event, partly because tell this has become more pervasive in

countries around the world. there are marks from around the world who have been invited to westminster -- there are monarchs from around the world who have been invited to westminster abbey. [cheers] >> we are a few minutes away, according to the schedule that was put out. in those cars are some important people. the pages that are on the groupon side that stand -- that are on the groom's side. her majesty the queen heads toward westminster added. these are the final arrivals before the bride and her father had out for the ceremony. we expect the ceremony to begin in about 15 minutes and the ceremony last about an hour or so.

[cheers] >> as the queen and duke of edinburgh arrive at westminster abbey, on the right of your screen is the rolls royce that will be carrying kate middleton from the hotel to westminster abbey. she will be accompanied by her father. listen to the trumpet fanfare as the queen arrives.

♪ >> a beautiful shot of the queen. she looks happy. we're waiting for the moment the whole world is waiting for. kate middleton will be emerging from the hotel to jump into that rolls royce. everybody wants to know what the dress looks like. we have the deputy every -- editor of "brights" magazine. -- "brides" magazine. >> we're all waiting to see what the dress looks like.

we can quite imagine how magnificent it will be and how different it would royal be from royal wedding dresses in the past. >> the royal family learned something after the experience of princess diana. they told everybody who was designing her dress and apparently that poor woman, the seamstress, was mobbed for months with photographers and so forth, the london paparazzi trying to get a look at it. we do not know official who is designing this stress. >> we do not know. we have learned it could be from the house of alexander mcqueen. >> we're seeing the first glimpses of the dress. check with the official

wedding site. as soon as we get the name, we will be sure to bring it to our audience. we can see some pllace. vail.g th we're getting what appears to be a stock gounning gown. >> the first thing that comes to mind is princess grace. it has a high neck and quite a bit of the bodice. it looks like a full skirt. apparently kate was heard earlier to be admired princess grace. they spoke about something to aspire to. that looks like the direction she may have gone in. >> note t.r. as far as we can tell -- no tiara as far as we

can tell. she is not yet will take -- she is not yet loyalty. there was talk about the queen loading for 1 from the vast collection. it appears to be -- i do not want to say an ordinary wedding veil. >> the could be a tierara under the veil. when sarah ferguson got married, she walked into the abbey with flowers in her hair and walked out of the abbey wearing a tieara. we all thought she would be wearing a tiara. there is so much to choose from.

there is nothing like the devil that a -- there is nothing like the dazzle that a tiara gives you. yes, she is wearing one. it is small, but it is there. >> could she borrow from the queen's collection? there are dozens to choose from. one of the big parts from princess diana's dress was how long the train was. it just went on forever. what do you do? >> a 25-foot train is hard to compete with. the kind of laughed at it.

they did it as long as it possibly could make it to work on the aisle. i doubt that will approach to this. and her hair is down. >> let's listen in for just a moment as kate middleton and her father in the rolls royce passed by. passing buckingham palace. as she passed yet -- has she passed you yet? >> this is the moment we have been waiting for. we have all been wondering about the drastic we have seen quite a lot of it -- we have been wondering about the dress. >> a woman descended from a family of coal miners, a famine that has worked very hard and has done some innovative things and has become wealthy in its own right. but she is to be the future queen and she is on her way to westminster abbey. members of the bridal party are entering the abbey. she is on her way to westminster abbey, where she will be joined with prince william in marriage.

>> the older woman in the bunch, that is the sister of kate middleton. that is her maid of honor. >> a close confidante. there have been many years of courtship. >> what is striking is just to think more about your personality. maybe you can weigh in on this as well. this is a woman who likes to play hockey and likes to go on hikes and is very active and spent time on the ski slopes. so beautiful and graceful but guandique dynamic woman. >> one of the things that prince charles really loved about kate, as much as she is a burly girl -- girlie girl, he loved the

fact that she doesn't like throwing not a pair of boots in getting her hair wet and hiking in the rain. that appealed to her. william loved the outdoors and loved sports and has kate to ensure that with as something very special pressed no rain boots today. looking at the bridesmaids. would you know about the relationship between kate and her sister? >> they are very close. they call each other at best friends. she is probably the one person that came to has confided in about everything. there have been such a few details leaked out about this wedding. close friends are family. she knows the intimate details. that is very special.

they were very excited. she was grinning ear to ear. >> the rolls-royce has passed through the parade grounds and is now much closer to the abbey itself. there is kate middleton with her father by her side in that rolls-royce. based on the time it to occur to get inside that rolls-royce, i would guess that she does not have a huge long train. >> i don't think she does. i think she probably has something modest. it looks like a very special dress. elaborate lace with a high neck in the back and a lovely v-neck in front to show off her gorgeous collarbone.

she has a glorious figure. we expected something fitted on top. i can wait to see it. >> our special correspondent, john london -- joan lunden. >> i remember we were waiting for her carriage. she came by carriage. there was some difficulty with that huge dress and that long, 25-foot train and a father into the carriage. people had

>> as we watch the arrival of the bride. they just announced the designer of the dress. weddinge middleton's dress was designed by alexander mcqueen. this was expected in part. you are back with us as we watch this entrance. it is a little unexpected. >> a little more conservative than we would have thought, especially on the house of mcqueen. it has an almost '70s looked to it. i think it wraps all the grace kelly address. it as a sweetheart necklines over that lace overlay. a short veil, which was unexpected. the train is not huge. the skirt is not the kind of big skirt the queen has shown very recently.

it is much more streamlined and understated. it is quite elegant. she looks very much like the way she dresses in her everyday life. that translated to a different label. very kate it seems to me. >> her father by her side. which is all a collapse of her mother. she wanted it to be a surprise for her future husband. applause and tears at the beginning of the ceremony. that's really when the promises were made by prince william and kate. you could hear them outside but inside the abbey not the same but it was nice to have the balance. the solemn of the abbey and the celebration outside. >> she had a smirk on her face at points in time and may have heard some of that outside. beforehand one said he might crack a couple of jokes to help the bride ease her jitters on this wedding day. as i said earlier, 2.6 billion watching, so a very public event but also a very private event, a man and woman pledging themselves to each other. and a beautiful ceremony, it is.

1981, charles put the ring on the wrong hand and then everybody thought that he forgot to kiss diana, because we all know weddings where they pronounce you man and wife, and you're supposed to kiss. but that actually is not part of the traditional ceremony in westminster abbey or in st. paul cathedral as it was back in the case of their wedding. so sometimes -- it's ok if they do. but it's not expected. it's not a part of the tradition. so the kiss is happening on the balcony and of course that is not obligatory, but they know the entire world is watching and you'll remember with prince charles and princess diana you'll remember it was a very short and kurt little kiss but remember they had only been together 13 times ever over the course of six months or so

before that. these are two young people who have obviously been together and lived together for 10 years and they have a very strong relationship and she has found her place within the royal family, has been welcomed by them where as diana said she had no where can from anyone in those few months prior to the wedding. she was just kind of put there and that people did not embrace her, so she didn't have the kind of love and warmth and emotional support and i think kate looked nervous up until the time they signed, and i think that was probably just stress, because when she came back out, she looked much more relaxed. but even though she was nebraskaous, you kept seeing william look or reach over to her and give her that reassurance of, you're doing

ok, honey. >> i suppose it would not have been acceptable for the two of them just to have run off to africa and elope. the nation really wanted this ceremony and has been wanting it for years, the british press has, and now they have it. >> and we were talking earlier about the kiss that we will finally see. true, they've been together for eight years. but just guessing probably haven't kissed in front of 2.5 billion people before. and you were telling us that they have been rehearsing this part as well. >> yes. well, the kiss of course, they've kissed many times in private, but this is the first time it's been such a public arena and on the balcony they have 2.6 billion people around the world and thousands of people behind me just screaming and shouting, waiting for the kiss so of course the whole thing has to be planned out and

we heard they were both told exactly where to stand on the balcony so the cameras will get a perfect view at 1:25 when they kiss. >> what's the feel from the folks around you from the outside looking in at the ceremony? >> well, of course a lot of people here are waiting alongside buckingham palace and can't see what's going on at westminster abbey. but they've been playing everything over loud speakers. and when it went to him, the crowd went into a jube lieutenant applause. it was really a special site. a special sight. i've never seen anything like it in london before. >> you just have to wonder what she's thinking as her subjects or will be her subjects at some point, greet the new future queen. she is officially the duchess of came came now.

that's duchess of cambridge now. the duke and duchess of cambridge. just received that from the queen this morning. >> sally is back with us from bride bride magazine, and -- "brides" magazine, and we were commenting about the wedding gown. and now that we see the tiara and we have more details, what stands out most to you? >> how much like herself she looks today. she doesn't look like she's wearing a costume. she looks like she's wearing something that is really her style. completely something that she's comfortable in. it's incredibly elegant. it's sophisticated, but it's not overdone. it wasn't a huge fashion moment. it was a beautiful moment. the back of the dress is particularly gorgeous, and the flowers she chose were very modest. lillies of the valley.

actually, they are quite expensive. it wasn't a big flashy but kay. diana's was as wide as her dress but this is small. the tiara was somewhat a reserved look but looks like the quintessential bride on the top of the wedding cake. >> speaking of the wedding cake, they say lilly of the valley are on top and we learned something about the tiara that was something of a special moment between she and the queen. >> that was given to queen elizabeth on her 18th birthday. so it dates back to 1936. so on her 18th birthday she was given the tiara, and now she has now passed it down to

katherine. so it's called the halo. and i think it's interesting that it is did minute i can'ttive as you look at tiaras and that's an understated elegance. when she was out to lunch with camilla she was overheard to say that she really loved to way princess grace looked on her wedding day. that elegant, noble, but not fussy or overstated look. and i clearly think she went for that kind of a look tae. -- look today. >> the wedding procession headed down the mall. our correspondent is there. give us a feel of what you hear, what you see. >> i am. of course tension building up. everyone is waiting for that balcony moment and others are rushing over to buckingham palace to the queen's canopy reception. but the crowds are getting

excited here knowing kate and william are slowly approaching. it's just an incredible moment. i've never seen anything like it. >> a million people lining the streets there on that parade route. very heavily screened. $32 million it's estimated has been spent on security to make sure that their very private wedding goes off without a hitch. >> we mentioned can paises. they are going to be doing a lunch with the queen and guests. so just because you were invited, one of the 1,900 lucky enough to go to the westminster abbey doesn't mean you're going to the reception. there's the queen. she is hosting the reception that supposedly has 10,000 can paises. there's going to be dwight spread as you say here in the states. >> the chefs have been busy at buckingham palace.

>> these two were born in the same year. 1982. joan london, you were talking about the marriage of his parents, charles to diana. there was quite an age gap between them. she was only 19 when they went to the alter. he was 32. >> yes. in fact when she grew up in her home, she grew up in one of the royal go-to palaces, so she played in and amongst the

royals and played with edward and andrew, and charles was 13 years older. when you're 13 you don't want to play hide and seek with the toddlers. i remember interviewing charles when william was about 4 months old, and i asked him about little william. and he said i just hope when he grows up we get on. i want to make sure we get along. i remember being there in 1986 covering the wedding of sara ferguson to prince andrew, and in that wedding the carriage behind them had all the little bridesmaids and william was in that carriage, and he was a little tyke in a little blue and white sailor outfit and if i remember quite mischievous that day. >> and to see him today all grown up. >> making that same procession. >> carolyn is with us the author of the newlyweds

instruction manuel. only about an hour that these two have been married, but you've researched it senseably, what's the one thing you should say they should pay attention to that you wrote about in your instruction manuel? >> well, i think probably the most important thing about that first year of marriage is figuring out how they are going to carry through the successes of their relationship. up until now, as joan was saying, they've lived together. they've had a mature relationship. they've broken up and gotten back together. so i think they need to continue in that same vein and not let the term marriage and the weight of being married kind of psych them out. >> for our viewers, you may want to soak in as much as you

can of this, as they are in the carriage, the royal carriage. it's our understanding that once they disembark and enter buckingham palace, we are only going to see them one more time for that moment jenna is so excited to see. >> they rehearsed the kiss. just to make sure they have the angles just right. but this will be, john, one of our final glances of them. they have the lunch reception then their father, prince charles will be hosting dinner and dancing, and as we mentioned prince harry will be hosting a survivor breakfast for whoever makes it through the entire evening. >> i apparently they will be partying all night long at buckingham palace.

>> this has been quite a walk, hasn't it? eight years in the making, six months of engagement, and now joan london, here we are today. who would have thought -- maybe but ewe heard earlier, it really could have gone either way at a certain point. >> i get a sense of the reason why it was so long in coming was greatly because william was concerned. he lived through what happened to his mother, and he was her confidant. she came to him and told him how unhappy she was, so he was

concerned the same thing would happen to this young woman that he loved so much. so i think that is part of what deterred him and he wanted to make sure that he would never go through what he saw his mother go through. so i think that there was a long kind of courtship going on in the background that it's almost unbelievable that we didn't know anything about. and that was because of that amazing privacy pact that was forged between the royal family and the press that allowed him to go through high school and allowed him to go through college without the glare of cameras. but he knows very well what's to come. because his first step was in front of 200 photographers. he said he spent his whole life with the sound of those shutters closing, and he understands very well what lies before this couple. >> take a look at hyde park.
