field in atlanta tonight without mcdowell. he was put on administrative leave. giants fanned today weighed in on the suspension. >> it was such a heated game any way. it's a competitive sport. they are competitive fans so i don'thold it against him. >> reporter: mcdowell has apologized but his fate is now in the hands of the team and the commissioner. rescuers pulled a man from a car which he had drove off a cliff three days ago. jim vargas is on the scene. >> reporter: take a look, i'm standing on grizzly peak boulevard just where the car left the road. many of you may have seen this video on our noon news today. the 53-year-old man and his car were at least 150 feet down a steep cliff. possibly for three days. his good luck came when an east bay regional park ranger who was just driving by on grizzly

peak boulevard caught something out of the corner of his eyes. he investigated and quite honestly saved the man's life even though the car could barely be seen by the road above. firefighters worked hard to get the victim to the road. >> there were a lot of brush down there. some of our fire fighters had to go down there and cut the brush. then we sent the lines down. >> reporter: we're told the victim was in and out of the consciousness but it looks like he will live to tell the story. >> i think you're unlick unlucky to drive your car off the roadway. but considering everything he's been through, he's pretty lucky. >> reporter: the 1999 honda civic suffered front end damage but there was obviously no roll over, more good luck. live in oakland, jim vargas, ktvu channel 2 news.

the sonoma county sheriff's department has exhumed a body buried 28 years ago in hopes of making an identification. the body of the woman known only as jane doe was buried in the santa rosa rural cemetery in 1983. her cause of death has never been determined. detectives are hoping dna technology and new data base will help them figure out the woman's real name. san francisco's new police chief says he is setting an example. he's making a sacrifice that he hopes will inspire the rank in file. ktvu's david stevenson is live now in san francisco with what the new top cop is giving up. david. >> reporter: julie, inside his new office behind me greg shur told us the benefits of becoming the new chief comes with a responsibility to set an example. >> i am blessed to have this position, and it's very, very well compensated. >> reporter: the new chief told us he will not take a cost of

like a border where we were hiding that day. >> reporter: this is dimensions of detainment it was performed today at the un plaza in san francisco. the performance illustrates the living conditions of shane bower and patel. the two have been in prison since 2009. sarah shourd was captured also but released for medical compassion. and she was at today's event. shourd, bower and patel were arrested near the iran-iraq border. the three have been accused of spies, a claim that they deny. a fully restored missile will soon make a public appearance off of its historical base. i'm tom vacar, where you can see it still ahead.

oakland city attorney is taking a new job. the city of alameda says john russo has accepted a contract for $150,000. he will become the city manager. the alameda city council must still approve the deal. the oakland city council must now pick a replacement to serve the remainder of russo's term. and a look to the party's future in washington. today some of the 3,000 delegates elected officials and guests stopped by the convention. party officials say democrats are proud of sweeping all nine

legislators are calling the latest health insurance rate hike. the agency has no authority over anthem and anthem blue cross spokeswoman says regulators have previously approved the rate increase which will go ahead as planned. amazon today apologized for outages. today the company said a network configuration created the problem during an upgrade at a northern virginia center. it is immediately giving affected customers a 10 day credit. the company has also taken steps to ensure this does not happen again. california is losing $1 billion every year to internet sales. the california budget project released that figure today. it says the golden state should enact legislation ensuring sales tax from out of state websites like amazon.

really nice weather. overnight lows, 40s in santa rosa. 36 in napa. 42 in vallejo. these inland bay valleys not really shown here perhaps up toward wood acre. those little towns, you're going to find mid- and upper 30s it's going to be cold. high pressure is in charge and temperatures trended up. tonight was warmer by a little bit. saturday, sunday warmer still. sunday is the warmest day in the weekend. most of the temperatures will be upper 70s but there'll be a couple of low 80s. forecast using colors. these are temperatures, yellows are 70s. okay a lot of them. not showing any 80s but that's saturday. i don't think we'll see any 80s on saturday but friday i think we will. forecast highs on our weekend, really, really nice. 74 in vallejo. 76 in concord, and 73 in san jose. if you're at the coast this

top. no one was injured. an unusual rescue in the berkeley hills. the trick police use to free this frightened deer. but first wall street snuck in some gains before the closing bell. the dow rose on news from a huge gain in earnings in caterpillar. the dow ended today up 47, the nasdaq gained one point.

free at last. berkeley police used a rope and rope to free a deer. cameras were there as they freed that deer. we later found out this is the second time officers rescued the second deer. before we got there they had already freed the animal but it ran right toward the same fence and got stuck again. >> smart thinking by those folks. >> i thought you were going to say by the deer. >> not exactly. >> stanley cup finals, round two. >> it is go time less than an hour. sharks against the red wings and not to throw cold water. the sharks are going to have to take their game up a notch and
