morning. inspectors are here. they are trying to determine exactly what happened. i've been told by san francisco police there are three scenes. this one where the hit and run occurred. another one where there is vehicle. and another one where the suspect was arrested. you are looking at paramedics taking the 23-year-old to the hospital. he suffered wounds to his face and hands. th suspect damaged cars as we drove into the hospital this morning. this is what we knee so far. the suspected drunk driver shot and killed the man walking across turk. he's described as a 55-year-old african american man. a cab driver noticed the body and called police around 2:20 p.o. this morning. a short chase insued when

a high-speed chase. it started just after 8:15 last night when the officer noticed a van speeding. the officer tried to stop the van but the driver turned on to davis street. that's where police say the vans driver and made a u-turn driving toward the officer. despite beingshaken up the officer was able to take the driver into custody. the officer was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. also in san leandro a man is recovering after being shot by a carjacking. a woman just got out of her car when she was confronted by three men that demanded the keys to her car. several rounds were fired at the roommate and he was hit in the leg. police are still searching for the gunman and the car. a judge could decide today whether a suspected serial killer can represent himself

stolen violin as soon as today. last night police arrested the suspect 27-year-old scott sylvester. earlier this week we showed you that muni surveillance video. the rare violin is worth an estimated $23,000. he dropped it off some time yesterday. he was arrested shortly thereafter. six people are under arrest in a violent home invasion robbery in gilroy. sheriffs investigators say the suspects broke into a home back in february and waited for the victim to come home. when he did, they ambushed him and tortured him to get the combination to a safe. >> not only only do the suspects beat up the victim with q sticks and wooden sticks but they also poured liquid chemical substance all over the victim's face and body to create more pain. >> the safe contained a

collection of guns, stamps, and coins worth $200,000. the six suspects were arrested on wednesday night. one is a juvenile. the other lives on the same street where the robbery occurred. the city of palo alto is exploring a plan to merge its police and fire department. the city manager has proposed creating one public safety department to save money. the police and fire departments are already lead by one person with the police chief also serving as acting fire chief. they will revisit the proposal next summer after an independent report. closing arguments are scheduled today in oakland's highly debated fruitvale case. a judge will decide whether the city can impose tough restrictions on dozens of suspected gang members in the area. if approved this would be the third oakland neighborhood

sony chair apologized for the security breach on the gaming network and the problems online with its online entertainment service. now he's offering a free id theft protection to everyone who's information may have been stolen. u.s. subscribers have until june 18th to sign up for that. san francisco sheriff says he's getting ready to release illegal immigrants from jail. they will allow low level criminal spree starting june 1st. the plan would treat illegal immigrants the same way u.s. citizens are treated. federal officials have been able to get around it with a fingerprint. the state senate is getting ready to debate the dream act.

that would allow illegal immigrants to get financial aid. this act is similar to the federal dream act. but the california version does not include a pass to citizenship. as california moves ahead with its own version of the dream act, president obama is urging congress to do the same. >> i want to sign the dream act into law. a mississippi town stands to lose tens of millions of tomorrow dollars -- tourism dollars this month. all nine casinos are closed in anticipation of heavy flooding. nearby parking lots have been flooded and there is six feet of water inside the hotel tower in one of the casinos. casinos are expected to stapled for three weeks or until emergency officials decide it's safe to stay open. the victim was found still

strapped into the seat. the development comes a few days after the cockpit voice recorder was found. that flight was traveling from rio to paris. a proposal to use cal train's track for a section of high-speed rail has been rejected. the state's high-speed rail authority told injuries not to spend time or money looking into that plan. they suggest modifying the cal train tracks would save $4 billion. but the rail authority says it violates the bond measure approved by voters which requires the track to end at the transbay terminal in san francisco. cal train only goes top fourth and king street. cal train is adding more space for commuters to store their bikes. they approved a resolution yesterday. conversion will cost the agency $300,000. should be complete by the end of june. a lot more people can ride
