inland. but we are away from the 90s. if you are over in that fog it will be a cool day. weekend forecast coming up shortly. now to sal. traffic on interstate 80 looks pretty good. if you are driving from fairfield and vacaville all the way to berkeley the ride should be pretty normal. also we are looking at the san mateo bridge. let's see if the fog is around here as well. just use care. let's go back to the desk. thank you. we have developing news for you coming from san francisco. a suspected drunk driver hit and killed a pedestrian then crashed right outside st. mary's medical center. police have begun giving -- have been giving up details to jade hernandez. >> reporter: 60 miles an hour or more. right now san francisco fire department is washing down the streets. that is part of what is going on here.

we are live along the masonic between golden gate and turk. police say they have collected evidence from four different locations. here where the hit and run took place along masonic between golden gate and turk, clayton, and fell, and straighter street. this is the honda which police say struck and killed the pedestrian crossing turk around 2:30 this morning. the suspect the drunk driver never slowed down striking the pedestrian going 60 miles an hour or more. his body flew half a block. the victim is described as a 55- year-old african american man. a cab driver noticed the body and called police. the medical examiner just took the body about 30 minutes ago. about three hours ago, paramedics took the suspect believed to be a san francisco resident to the hospital. he suffered wounds to his face

and hands. police now have that man in custody. shortly before the arrest a short chase insued when they spotted the suspect. his car hood 45 flown open and the suspect was still driving. he nearly struck and killed an er nurse. she spoke to us a few hours ago. >> i saw a car coming in. hitting the corner very hard. there was no headlights or front grill. i was coming in the opposite direction as you are supposed to enter and i was going to go park my car in the parking garage. i tried to hit the gas and roll over am speed bump. he ran into the cement pops. >> reporter: it stopped the car right in the front of the hospital. they have sent out information regarding this case. he is expected to be out here at the scene at 7:15. we will continue to update you.

as we can show you right here the fire department is finishing washing off the street. this is where the deadly hit and run happened. we will bring you an update through mornings on 2. it was another rowdy cinco de mayo celebration in san jose. police spent most of the night breaking up fights. san jose medical teams are busy treating the injured. there is a report of at least one stabbing. police are expected to reveal the number of arrests and total injuries. claudine wong is in san jose. she is checking out the damage and talking to business owners. time now 6:04 a san leandro police officer is very you can lucky to be alive following a head on collision. the officers spotted the speeding van on doo little drive preponderate officer tried to pull the driver over as he turned on to davis

street. that's when the van's driver made a u-turn and drove right at the officer crashing head on into the patrol car. despite being shaken up that officer was able to make the arrest of the driver. the officer was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. also in san leandro a man is recovering after being shot of a carjacking. a woman had just gotten out of her car in her driveway when she was confronted by three men who demanded the keys to her car. when she started to leave the woman's roommate came out of the house. several rounds were fired at that roommate and he was wounded in the leg. new information on the death of osama bin laden. for the first time al qaeda has confirmed bin laden's death in an internet statement. the statement cities bin laden's blood will not be wasted and al qaeda will continue attacking americans

and allies. meanwhile we continue to learn more about the raid that killed bin laden. new reports indicate the cia had been watching the secret compound in pakistan for months from a safe house nearby. now reported the cia officers used spy equipment to pick up voices from inside the house. the team would regularly see a tall man walking through the compound's courtyard. they were not able to positively confirm it was them. president obama will meet privately with the men that took on the compound. we will have a live report from washington with the details of the president's visit to say thank you to the troops. the raids on bin laden east compound is leading to new information of a possible terror plot. the target u.s. rail systems. ktvu channel 2 reporter kraig debro is in oakland this

morning with how amtrak and union pacific are responding to this threat. >> reporter: both amtrak and union pacific got tsa warnings. you see paysages -- you see passengers inside here. the next train leaves at 6:30. this is the first morning after we learned about plans to attack the nation's rail system. osama bin laden was planning a 9/11 tenth anniversary terrorist attack. that according to documents and computer information seized on the raid of his pakistani home. the raid which was not finalized september a train full of people off tracks. the intel was among the first pieces of information gathered. >> it is scary because i kind of take the train and bus a lot because i am going into school in monterey and i live seven hours away. it's hard for my parents to come down. >> reporter: amtrak confirmed it received that tsa warning. they told us we are immediately

earliest. neighbors were told stay inside and close your windows. and by the way gas service is not effected. bryan stow is under going more surgery to drain the fluid that is building up in his brain. he suffered a fractured skull when he was severely beaten outside of dodgers stadium in march. doctors have been trying to remove him from coma inducing medications but stow's family says he's not responding much to stimulation. the city of palo alto is exploring the plan to emerge its police and fire departments. they report the city manager has proposed creating one public safety department to save money. the police and fire department are lead by one person with the police chief serving as acting fire chief. city leaders will reportedly revisit the proposal next summer after an independent report of its medical services is completed. how about this. passengers ride for free today

meet privately with the special operation forces. now while tv cameras were there yesterday when he met with new york firefighters his meeting today with the navy seals and army pilots that carried them into pakistan is off limits. 70 koa man does were involved in the assault. the washington post reports the cia maintained a safe house where another small team of spies conducted surveillance over several months. that information helped the seals rehearse how they would take on bin laden. but the word is the spies never captured a photograph of bin laden before the seals went in. the safe house did not play a role in the raid and it has reportedly been shut down. reporting live from washington, d.c. alison burns county v channel 2 -- ktvu channel 2 news. a u.s. drone strike killed 10 people in north pakistan

stars. two los angeles police officers never recognized heinzward. they put him in handcuffs after pulling over a car they thought was stolen. >> shortly thereafter they recognized the passenger. they determined that the vehicle was actually not stolen. it had been reported stolen but never reported to the l.a. pd as found. >> now police immediately released heinzward after that they realized the mistake opinion brie civil supreme court recognize same sex unions. they are cheering the decision. under the rule people in same sex unions will have the same rights as married couples. that means the judge cannot deny rights like retired benefits and adoption. is it feeling friday light?

overnight news from san jose. police are reporting another rowdy cinco de mayo celebration. claudine wong has been talking to downtown business owners. claudine. >> reporter: cleanup is under way, pam. they are cleaning up broken windows here. if you take a look inside this garbage can you can see what has been swept up already. we will take you inside this tax service business. if you come in here you can see the cleanup that is still needing to get under way. this was the scene from what happened last night. it looks from what we can gather that this happened around 10:00 last night. they just found out about it this morning when they turned on the new this saw their business on the news this morning. it looks like the city put up the bordered windows to secure it overnight. they are glad that happened. however, at this point they are frustrated because this happens again and again in this spot at

we know there were several fights. we heard a report of one stabbing. we still trying to chase down san jose police to find out how many people they arrested. for the folks out here on 33rd street they are not worried about all of that. they are left worrying about the damage. the people that own this business say they have owned it since 1974. they say this has happened 10- 15 times in the years they have owned this. they do not have glass insurance to cover this. this will all be out of pocket for them. they are looking at thousands of dollars in damage and certainly not happy by it. live in san jose claudine wong. for the first time al qaeda confirms that osama bin laden is dead. in an internet statement al qaeda is quote warning of retaliation saying americans happiness will turn to sadness. meantime we are still hearing

and upper 70s now inland with a few low 80s. it will be cooler for all today as that fog and the west wind begins to flex its muscle. 40s for many for the north bay and 50s for some. the sea breeze is there. northwest for san jose. that is a cooler breeze as it comes over water. sfo had gusts up to 32. south at five. you get a south wind at north bay, marin county, sonoma county. this time of year that is a cooler direction. i expect fairfield to ramp up and get turbo charged later on as the delta breeze kicks in. the breeze is make it out to the delta straight. this system coming in will urbaner a lot of air mass. today's forecast show we have the fog in place so leading edge of the cooling trend is already there. by noon we will see 56-70. fog, sun, but breezy. that is not a north wind

5:35 this morning. the u.s. government says osama bin laden was planning to kill people riding on the rail systems on the tenth anniversary of 9/11. even though bin laden is dead, some passengers we spoke with say his threats are not. >> he's gone but obviously terrorism is not over. obviously someone else will take over. i mean, we are not safe still. >> i don't think it will do the bus system any harm or the train system. airplanes, yeah. >> i still feel like he could have other people behind him to carry out his plan. there is always a possibility. you never know what will happen . >> reporter: the plan was not finalized. it's the first threatening piece of information the government has revealed.

surveillance video carrying the rare violin. sylvester dropped it off at st. mary's cathedral sometime yesterday and was arrested. sam al sal -- sal, what is happening in traffic? >> we're going to the golden gate bridge. a look at this beautiful shot. the fog is not here. the fog is definitely in san francisco but it's not causing visibility problems for most drivers. this is a look at highway 101 in san francisco and that traffic is moving along pretty well. there are no major problems here. in the south bay let's go there. if you are on pins la 101 and 280 is still doing well. we have patchy fog and mostly sunny. the fog is really kind of getting its act together. there is a little bit there but not a lot. the sea breeze is in place and some of the higher clouds

associated with the system that will be visiting over the weekend from the north. sot fog develops but -- so the fog develops but it's patchy. 15 degrees cooler with that southerly breeze. strong system driving down will really drive down temperatures as we head into the weekend with what looks like bottom out by sunday. 40s. some upper 40s napa, san rafael, and into santa rosa. one of the warmest at 58 degrees. disregard that. that is just noise. southwest 13 at fairfield. west at 21 at sfo. a south wind at santa rosa. all of these are the cooler direction. we will still have a sunny day it won't be as warm as we had on wednesday and thursday. that system will drive down here over the weekend. fog, sun, breezy. more west, to southwest. some fog on the coast. cooler afternoon highs. the wind will pick up later on. still low 80s away from the

welcome back. a san jose woman says the gift of life gave her an infection. now she is filing a claim against the hospital. the woman developed an infection last year after donating blood at a drive held by stanford hospital. this is the second claim against stanford. a 43-year-old man is suing the hospital claiming a 2008 blood donation him left him with a bow infection. no comment from stanford hospital. this morning glide founder will be the guest of honor at the breakfast of champions. organizers picked reverend williams as the role model of the year. his work as a minister and activist puts him at the forefront of civil rights, human rights, and social change. now job train provides job training. it starts at 7:30 at the santa clara convention center. another american idol contestant has got the boot.
