francisco overnight. a drunk driver killed a person and crashed outside st. marys medical center. good morning. jade. >> reporter: you're going to here from her in just a second. the san francisco police department spokesman is on the scene. you can see that masonic is open to through traffic. a man was struck and killed as he crossed the street in the crosswalk. the body landed a half a block down on sonic. the suspected drunk driver never slowed down. >> he was very drunk. he asked the cops what happened. they said a do you mean what happened? >> reporter: this is the hyundai involved. it appears the 23-year-old suspected driver was speeding,

driving as fast as 60 miles an hour or over. the victim is a 55-year-old african-american man. a cab driver noticed the body and called the police. what you're looking at here, paramedics taking the suspect, believed to be a san francisco resident to the hospital. he suffered wounds to his face and hands from the shattered windshield. police spotted the suspect close to the scene. his car hood had flown open. the vehicle had no grill or headlights. moments later the suspect nearly hit an er nurse at st. mary's medical center. >> i saw a car coming in, hitting the corner very hard. there were no headlights, no front gri. he was coming in on a speed. i was coming in the opposite direction and was going to park my car in the parking garage.

i tried to dodge him and he actually ran in. the cement part stopped the car. >> reporter: here along straighter street near st. mary's hospital. as mentioned, san francisco police, the spokesperson is out here. we'll get new details from hem and bring it to you in the second hour on mornings on 2. jade hernandez. well, there was another rowdy cinco de mayo in the bay area. there was widespread violence and vandalism. claudine wong is back. >> reporter: this is near 33rd street. businesses are trying to get back to normal. this is the weaver tax insurance

company. the owners of this business also own a strip mall which is right next to it. there are three businesses that are also dealing with smashed windows. the boards you are looking at, they were put up by the city. the own are didn't realize this happened until they turned on the news and saw the damage on tv. they said they were frustrated by this sight. all of the repairs will come out of their pocket. >> glass insurance is the most expensive thing. >> reporter: how much will it cost? >> thousands. they're on retain are, so the city incurs costs. >> reporter: do they send you a bill? >> the last time it happened, they didn't send me a bill. >> reporter: he has owned the

building since 1974. this has happened 10 to 15 times. he said it's a disgrace to the holiday. this all happened about 10:00 last night. we want to show you video from newschopper 2. you can tell from the video that things got out of control around that time with people jumping in on cars. that's when a newspaper stand got pushed over. we don't know how many were arrested. at this point that appears to be the time frame. it seems to have calmed down around 11:15 or so. people sauer motorcycle -- saw

voices from inside the house. the team would regularly see a tall man walking through the compound's courtyard but they were never able to positively confirm that man was bin laden. later today president obama will meet privately with some of the military personnel who took part on the raid. coming up at 7:15, we'll have a live report from washington, d.c. with details of the president's visit to thank the troops for their successful mission. >> overnight a high speed chase ended with a man in the hospital. police spotted a van on do little drive. the officer tried to pull the driver over as he turned over on to davis street. that's when the van's driver made a u turn and turned towards the police officer crashes into him head on. despite being shaken up, the officer was able to arrest the driver. the officer was taken to the

hospital and has minor injuries. police are looking for three men who car jacked a woman last night and shot her roommate. police say the woman had just pulled into her driveway when she was confronted by three men who demanded the key to her car. the woman's roommate came out. several shots were fired at the roommate and he was shot in the leg before they escaped with the car. police are looking for men who snatched $8,000 in designer high glasses at the your eyes image store. one man was described as short and heavy with a shaved head and acted like he had a gun. the other was tall and thin with spikey hair. both of them were asian. the third man was driving the getaway car, a silver four-door

a picture of bin laden before the seals went. the safe house has now been shut down. reporting for ktvu. we're continuing to hear more details about the raid. it appears there was no intense firefight. a senior defense official said only one man in the compound fired any shots and he was quickly killed. the navy seals then shot and killed bin laden and several others. a large three-day protest against drug violence in mexico continues today. 600 people are walking 50-mile tools mexico city and -- 50 miles to mexico city. this protest march is expected to and on sunday. many of the participants lost loved ones not continuing

a high speed chase in san leandro ended with a man in the hospital. police noticed a van speeding on doolittle drive last night. the officer tried to pull the van over. the van's driver made a u turn and drove directly towards the officer, crashing into him head-on. despite being shaken up, the officer was able to arrest the driver. the officer was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. mrs. in san leandro police are looking for three men who carjacked a woman and shot her roommate. the woman had just pulled into the driveway when he is was confronted by three men who demanded the keys to her car. the woman's roommate came out. several rounds were fired at him and he was shot in the leg before the gunmen took off.

been shut down. we're still hearing more details about the u.s. raid on bin laden's compound. it now appears there was no intense firefight. a senior defense official said one man fired any shots. he was quickly shot. officials in pakistan said a u.s. drone strike killed 10 people in north pakistan near the border with afghanistan. that hear is known to be a hideout for al qaeda as well as the taliban. that strike could increase the tension between the united states and pakistan. yesterday the pakistani army warned the u.s. stop making unauthorized strikes within pakistan. the death of osama bin laden dominated last night's debate of republican presidential candidates. the five candidates there had five different views on
