say he was robbing other homes throughout the bay area. ktvu's christien kafton tells us police have found enough stolen goods to fill two trucks, christien -- >> reporter: it was at that home about a half hour ago, after two truckloads being hauled out, it still looks like a garage sale in the backyard. we can tell you the difficult job of pairing stolen items with their rightful owners is on the way. police arrested lee crago tuesday. he was in possession of stolen items from at least 10 burglaries. neighbors tell me that crago, a woman and a little boy moved in about two weeks ago and started telling neighbors they were renting the property. now the realtor for that home stopped by, discovered them living there illegally and called police. that's when they discovered the stolen property, neighbors were shocked. >> i walk through here every day and it's nothing out of the ordinary. the other day i walked by, with

the collective the chance to shut down or pay a fine. it's 5:00 and the dispensary is still open. we talked to the dispensary shortly before the the áf shut down. there are no signs on this nondiscrypt building. only a picture of bob marley. we were not allowed inside, the marijuana we're showing is from other dispensaries. police say without a permit they have no way to regulate the collective. >> i have no idea of what's going on inside. other than having a permit to operate we have no authority to go inside those doors. >> reporter: the dispensary could now also face a criminal investigation by keeping their doors open. the city denied the collectives license, but the directors are appealing and say the city which has no medical marijuana policy is giving them the run around.

today. the nasdaq was up almost 13 points. president obama talked today about the job numbers. why he says the up tick in hiring is a great sign especially when the country is carrying the weight of another financial burden. the presidents words and what that burden is coming up. the epa says it has seen a steady decline in radiation readings in water and milk in recent week weeks. and even at its work, the readings were so minuscule it did not result in a concern. and american airlines flight 431 made an emergency landing this morning. there were 165 passengers and crew members on board the boeing 757.

this afternoon we learned the identity of a man killed in a fatal hit and run. 61-year-old james hudson was in the crosswalk when he was struck and killed at about 2:30 this morning as he crossed the sonic avenue at golden gate avenue. officers say the driver 23-year- old jose jimenez then hit four cars before crashing in front of st. mary's medical center. >> and i was going to park my car in the parking garage. i tried to dodge him because he was coming head on and he actually ran in the cement pots

in front. so i stopped the car. >> reporter: jimenez faces vehicle manslaughter and dui charges. people who live along sonic avenue say they will keep pushing for more safety improvements in their neighborhood in the wake of this accident. they hope to be successful in getting better traffic lights. but they say more needs to be done especially because there's a day care center right between golden gate and turk. >> it's traffic; people making illegal left turns. people running the red light, i've been here since 2002 and it's been an ongoing problem another this intersection. >> residents say they would like the city to construct a median along sonic to reduce accidents. the salmon are back so why are fishermen still having a difficult time? ktvu's consumer editor tom vacar spent the day looking for answer and is live now with what he found. >> reporter: many of the

restrictions have now been lifted. many of these boats that ought to be fishing out there right now simply are not. the number of salmon caught in the first week of the season are described as small. >> this is absolutely critical for this sleet fleet to get back to work and for these fish populations to come back so we can work. >> reporter: few boats are able to yet venture out. >> i've been real tough throughout the last six days have been real tough where there's only a few boats big enough to go out and fish in that kind of weather. >> reporter: economics are also unforgiving, that's why a consortium has just got together. they help the salmon survive pollution and water pumping stations so they can get to and

from the sea. >> the commercial fishermen have been among the leading clients in the legal efforts to restore these runs and we're starting to see pay off from those efforts. >> reporter: though a salmon fisherman can get $100 for this ten pounder, with skyrocketing fuel prices and other expenses you have to get five of these just to break even, some days you don't even get that. >> when i started salmon fishing 25 years ago, there were 5,000 boats in california's commercial salmon boats. when we fished in 2007, 293 boats delivered 90% of the fish. >> reporter: now when the weather improves and more boats actually go out, we're going to finally learn how good the season will be now and maybe next year. tom vacar, ktvu news. and rescuers struggle to

rescue a dozen whales found stranded at sea. fierce flooding continues -- the water is expected to continue to rise for the next week. just downstream from memphis, casinos have been ordered to close because the area may be flooded for up to a month. farther downstream, louisiana officials are preparing to evacuate 5,000 prisoners because of concern that the state penitentiary could flood. all of this is the result of powerful storms last month and heavy winter snow in some of the northern states. here in the bay area we're certainly feeling the cooler temperatures that bill told us about. but bill it's still pretty nice out there. >> you can't beat it. when you have a heck of a run.

we had record heat earlier in the week. we had 90s. yesterday we had some 90s. today temperatures came down as much as 15, even 20 degrees in the inland locations. here is the reason why. coastal fog shows up, the winds kick on shore. we've got fog out toward the avenues of san francisco. we've got fog out just out in the outer sunset district. you have a little bit of fog, daily city, half-moon bay, pacifica. that fog is going to fill in as we go through the bay area weekends. that means cooler weather still. so we've been talking about it. this is no surprise. the cool down is right on time and right on track. tonight partly cloudy, coastal fog, clouds and cooler for your weekend. the extended forecast is a dry pattern as we get into next week. but we have to contend with a major cool down. temperatures temperatures tomorrow about the same, maybe a degree or two cooler. you wake up saturday morning, 47 in napa, 48 in santa rosa

the verdict is in for josh wolf. he was arrested while occupying wheeler hall during an 11 hour protest in 2009. wolf says he was filming the demonstration. but a campus disciplinary panel has ruled that wolf's attendance at the hall was illegal. and school was out today but some teachers and students showed up any way to deliver a message. that they're not going to take it anymore. things began like a normal school day with the spangled

banner and pledge of allegiance. students decided to hold a teach in to in their words take back their education. >> when they found out there were going to be three furloughs, the first question they asked is why and what can we do about it. >> we're supposed to take over when everybody retires. but they're taking aware our education, our opportunity to do that. >> there were lessons on writing to your legislator, policy and voting. the district will hold two more furlough days at that high school later on this month. the private-sector added nearly a quarter of a million jobs last month. the number of government jobs actually went down by 24,000. the labor department says many of the reductions came from local schools and police stations because of stiff budget cuts. in a one on one interview with our washington bureau today the labor secretary said many

him. >> reporter: stow's sister told us there's good news to report. surgery was postponed, at least for a while. >> each little step forward that the doctor told us there will be steps back. so it's just trying to accept that. >> reporter: we talked to a neurorow surgeon who does not treat stow about the postponed procedure. he says the surgery is not uncommon and is an effective and permanent way to keep the brain from swelling. >> it's hard. it's been nothing i've ever experienced or faced in my life. stow's girlfriend tells us she has not been able to return to her old duties as a paramedic and is instead working in the office. >> i'm taking the kids out to eat. >> reporter: when she's not working, she takes care to take stow's two children out. all the while keeping tabs on

his condition. which can change every way. members of stow's family not already in los angeles are headed today so they can spend time as a family for mother's day. san francisco police have arrested a 27-year-old man on charges of stealing a rare violin after the man handed over the instrument to a priest yesterday. this is video from a muni metro train. investigators say the $23,000 violin belongs to a student at the san francisco conservatory of music and was stolen from a practice room. police identified silvester after that muni video became public. workers from children's hospital are on the picket line for a second day in a row. the nurses are demanding the hospital maintain wages and benefits they've had for decades. they plan to stay on the picket

line until thursday. >> trying to limit our health care. trying to decrease the amount of compensation for nurses and trying to basically degrade what we already have. >> managers at children's hospital are saying the union's demand are unreasonable. and that 1/3 of the nurses have crossed the picket line to go to work. we have breaking news right now. a major traffic problem in the east bay. what you're looking at here is a truck. from what we understand is that truck was carrying a forklift in the eastbound lane of 580 when somehow that forklift may have fallen off of the truck. as a result one lane is closed and as the chopper here pans back. you can see this is causing a lot of traffic in the area. this is in the commute direction. the eastbound lanes near dublin on 580 very close to the 680 interchange. again right now what's going on a forklift we believe somehow

fell off of that truck, crews are working now to get that fork lift out of the road back on to the truck and hopefully reopen that lane. we are going to stay on top of this story if we get more information we will bring it to you. after dropping below $100 a barrel yesterday for the first time since mid-march. oil prices stayed there today. oil futures dropped another $2.52 a barrel today falling to $97.18 a barrel. that is a 15% decline from four days ago. and many experts believe that we'll start seeing gas prices start to come down now. some analysts think the price could hit $3.50 a gallon by this summer. triple a's fuel gauge report shows the nationwide average gas price virtually unchanged at $3.58 a gallon up $1.05 from a year ago. the average price in oakland and san jose was $4.28 a

gallon. san francisco was unchanged from yesterday. high fuel prices have forced delta airlines to cut its work force. the airline says it planned to cancel buy outs. that's after delta told workers it plans to cut the amount of flights in september. it's a major perk enjoyed by many people who drive hybrids. zipping along the car pool lane everyone when they're alone. but it's about to come to an end. paul chambers is here to explain. >> reporter: if you have a hybrid you know you can zip through this traffic by driving in this diamond lane, but that is going to soon come to an end. this sticker on the hybrid car has power. it can save gas and reduce your commute time. >> my commute is already 45 minutes to an hour. that's driving in the car pool lane.so if i don't have access to the car pool lane my commute

we continue to follow breaking news happening in the east bay. this is the source of a major traffic back up on interstate 580 in dublin. a forklift here fell off of a big rig just about 4:30 this afternoon. that is the beginning of a very busy friday rush hour. thanks to news chopper 2 we can show you the major traffic back up that has resulted. one lane of 580, that is the eastbound direction has been closed. you see there's 680 going over 580. the traffic back up just keeps ongoing all the way back to castro valley. i just checked ktvu.com and traffic is a mess. all through throw bridge avenue

lou was found wandering the streets, thank to an i.d. chips, animal services tracked down his owner. what a nice story. chief meteorologist bill martin is going to tell us in just a couple of moments here, everybody is talking about the weekend. sunday is mother's day and a lot of people hoping for nice weather. if you can break down the weekend for us how does sunday look. >> it's going to be clearer on sunday. we have things cooling down. we have fog at the coast. that's going to be there for several days. temperatures tomorrow there you go it's going to be cooler again. i mean today's temperatures 20 degrees cooler than they were yesterday. so temperatures continue downward because of this on shore flow. tomorrow fog and clouds and temperatures in the low 70s. remember we had 90s. we had records two days ago. the on shore flow increases and the overhead clouds increase on sunday. and we get into a much cooler pattern. sunday looks like we're going to find temperatures in the mid- 60s. it's not a wash out it's just

cooler. it's going to be breezy. as this system slide through it might drop a few showers in san helena and out toward vacaville. mostly north and east of the bay area. we have a snow advisory. snow levels are about 5,000 feet but they could get three to 6-inches. that system that slides to the north and east of here is going to do a bulls eye. the lake tahoe on sunday is going to be snowy. these are forecast highs tomorrow. not bad. saturday is your warmest day. sunday is going to be nice it's just not going to be in the 90s it's going to be in the 60s on sunday. your five day forecast with the weekend in view. some clouds, windy and cooler for mother's day. but you know we can't beat it. next week it warms up again and starts to feel like spring. >> thank you. making their debut.

and they plan to put the first trophy from 1928 on display. two blind california sea lions made their public debut today at the san francisco zoo. silent night and henry have pretty much landed in the lap of sea lion luxury if you will. they are eating, sunbathing and enjoying life in the zoo's sea lion pool. but boy it has been a rough road for these two sea lionless. henry was found starving in a beach in crescent city. silent night was discovered in sausalito with a gunshot wound. >> about 10% of the patients we see are with us as a result of something people did. whether it was crashed that entangled them or very sadly sometimes purposefully inflicted wounds like the wounds that silent night faced.
