saturday, may 7th. it is a chilly, breezy start to the weekend. we'll check in now with meteorologist rosemary roscoe. looks like things are changing! >> yes, indeed. this morning five to 10 degrees cooler and brisk out there this morning. we showed you the fog over the bay area and the winds are gusting at times. take a look around the region. 40s and low 50s as we start the morning. coming in around san francisco, the golden gate gusting to 28 miles per hour. not everybody this breezy. we pop around just a bit. we've got a light breeze over the san rafael bridge, around concord are up to 14 miles per hour. we'll continue breezy throughout the day, and the cooldown continues. we may even have a little threat of rain come mother's day, sunday. we'll have details on all that coming up in just a few moments. we do have developing news. san jose police are on the scene of a triple shooting right now. it happened on mount drive two hours ago. two men were pronounced dead on

the scene. a third gunshot victim, a 17- year-old boy, was taken to the hospital. his condition is unknown right now. we are going to have a live report from the scene soon and will bring you more information as it becomes available. more than 100 people are heading to sacramento on bicycles. they're up from oakland, just about 30 minutes ago. ali rasmus was there for the start and joins us live with the reason behind this 105-mile ride. ali. >> reporter: mike, we're in front of oakland tech high school, the launching point for the journey. more than 110 people signed up for the fund-raising ride. you can see the supporters and people who came out to support the cyclists are getting ready to go because most of them got here at 5 a.m., and just a few are left, most got here at 5 p.m. and just a half hour ago we watched the largest group of them take off. [cheering] they're riding more than 100 miles from oakland to the state

capitol in sacramento, and the cause is to raise money and awareness about the de clinton in funding for public education. many people here including the organizers are parents of students at oakland tech high school in clairemont middle school. >> over the last three to four years, our -- both these public schools have lost between 20 and 30% of their funding. >> from the state? >> from the state. >> to support the schools and public education, and i mean, we're losing funding for public education and this is a way to show how important we think it is to keep funding it. >> it will take us about seven to eight hours, and we'll be going -- not sure what the route is but we go through fairfield, davis, and end up in sacramento at the capitol. >> each of the cyclists have done some fund-raising and collected sponsorships. altogether, they raised about $34,000, and that money will go straight to oakland tech and clairemont middle school. one of the organizers explained some of the things that may pay

are things the pta have to pay for on their own because the district no longer has enough money. once in sacramento, they'll meet with legislators to call for more funding for public education, and say they're willing to do that even if it means raising their taxes. reporting live, ali rasmus, ktvu channel 2 news. at least one person is in the hospital after a late night accident with a bus. it happened just before midnight on fifth and washington streets. video from the scene shows what appears to be a collision between a honda civic, chrysler suv, tour bus and possibly one other car. it's not clear what led up to the accident but you can see it first responders swarming to the scene before putting one of the victims on a gurney and loading them on the ambulance. a raid of a chop shot turned up 31 stolen streaks. the operator was arrested on thursday. highway patrol says all of the cars were vandalized but not every one of them had been

disassembled. officers say this is the second chop shop raid in the area in the past month. parts from nine vehicles were found at a shop in san pablo last month. expect a higher police presence this weekend in san jose because of cinco de mayo activities there. on thursday night, vandals smashed windows in several businesses. seven people were arrested that night. and in response, officers on motorcycles and bicycles were visibly present last night patrolling streets and several businesses also boarded up their windows. cinco de mayo celebrations are expected to continue through the weekend. >> historically, it's been an entire weekend event. sundays usually tapers off sooner, just because monday is a workday. but that's -- not necessarily any specific intelligence, but again we were basing it on past history. >> keep if in mind the sharks will be back in town playing another playoff game at the shark tank and that's likely to also bring crowds to the

downtown area. southern california police are looking for the men responsible for two cinco de mayo stabbings. it happened on thursday night near the california state university fullerton campus in orange county. police say two students in their early 20s were attacked outside the house. six to eight men are believed to be responsible. both students are recovering at the hospital. three men suspected of a carjacking and shooting in san leandro have been arrested. police say the men confronted a woman at gunpoint after she had just pulled into her driveway on thursday night. the victim screamed future help, and a roommate came outside. that roommate was shot in the leg by the gunman. the suspects jumped in the woman's chevy and drove off. a couple hours later, sheriff's deputies spotted the vehicle on interstate 880. the car crashed while exiting the offramp in hayward. the suspects, two adults and a juvenile, were taken into custody. a warning for people with mailboxes that you cannot lock. clayton police say these boxes are becoming a target for

thieves. they say outgoing checks are being stolen from the mailboxes and cashed. thanks to computer programs, thieves can now change or check the amount and pay or use the account and routing numbers to create their own checks. postal workers say your mail can provide a lot of incentive for people. >> mail is a very safe way to send correspondence, but unfortunately there are attractive items that go through the mail, and that's what people are looking for. >> most residents we talked to say their banks were able to void the stolen checks before they lost money. police say the best thing people with non-locking mailboxes can do is pick up your incoming mail as soon as possible, and avoid leaving outgoing mail in the box. the search is on this morning for a missing 14-year- old girl in san francisco. police say the parents of emma peacock woke up yesterday morning to find their daughter gone from their home. the parents are concerned because they say the 14-year- old has never run away before. peacock is believed to be wearing a white t-shirt, blue

jeans, and black shoes. if you have any information, call the san francisco police department. accused serial killer joseph naso will be allowed to represent in court. he was accused of killing four women. this is from his first court appearance last month. the judge did not allow cameras in court yesterday but the judge did rule that naso is fit to serve as his own attorney. naso said he needed more time to look over the evidence. he is now scheduled to enter a plea on may 27th. new tapes features osama bin laden and his pack 17i compound are expected to be made public today. an anonymous official says one of the tapes is home video showing bin laden's strolling around the compound. another tape is said to be al- qaeda propaganda. the decision to release the tapes comes a few days after

the president decided not to release photographs of bin laden's body. some people say the photographs should have been released to prove his death. president obama's agenda has been dominated by the death of osama bin laden. but he is now focusing on the economy for his weekly online video address. >> although our economy has not been the focus of the news this week, not a day goes by that i'm not focused on your jobs, your hopes, and your dreams. the only way we can avoid being held hostage to the ups and downs of oil prices is if we reduce our dependence on oil. that means investing in clean, alternative sources of energy. >> president obama taped the weekly online video address yesterday. he toured a plant specializing in manufacturing transmissions for clean energy trucks and buses. the coast guard has decided to reopen parts of the mississippi river to barge traffic. the river has been closed to all traffic over concerns the wake from the boats and ships would go over floodwalls, but

now the national weather service has lower the projected height of the river so that the coast guard is allowing traffic on a five-mile stretch through missouri. just a few days ago it was a taste of winter for the weekend. it will be more like a taste of winter. we've got -- i meant summer, winter! god morning! getting some sunshine. low clouds across the area. we'll turn partly cloudy, mostly cloudy into the evening hours. and look at where some of the winds are blowing this morning. oakland, 22 miles per hour. these gusts reaching 21 in and around san francisco. concord reporting 21. napa not too bad. light breeze, 10 miles per hour. but napa in the 40s some it's a chilly start out there, if makes it really brisk. 49 and napa now. 46 santa rosa. so the wind-chill factor to consider in those areas. low 50s oakland into a ward. satellite radar, we've got just

good morning to you! a live look from emeryville towards the bay area. that beach weather is just a fond memory at this point. a man accused of using a camera and shoe to look up women's skirts is now being investigated for other similar cases. police in marin county arrested 26-year-old nicholas springer wednesday night at the farmers market. investigators are now looking for more victims, they say a similar peeping incident was

reported at the civic center farmer as market on january 27th but it's unclear if springer is connected. a second member of a contra costa drug team has been charged with selling drugs seized near rains. he did not enter a plea in court yesterday. he is facing several charges, including conspiracy to sell drugs, possession of an assault rifle, and selling drugs to a confidence informant. he is a member of contra costa narcotics team. the commander of the unit was arrested in february and is facing similar charges. conservative watchdog groups say they're considering action against san francisco's sheriff's department after the announcement that undocumented immigrants will not be held for misdemeanor charges. sheriff hennessey says starting june 1, undocumented imgrants will be cited and released. under the program, federal agents have been able to scan a

fingerprint database and hold suspects for possible deportation. doing so violates san francisco sanctuary city ordinance. >> while their goal is to remove dangerous and violent individuals from the country through deportation, they have such a wide map, they're sweeping up victims of crime who get mistakenly arrested or people charged with really minor things who are not posing a danger to the community. >> numbers show that 241 illegal immigrants have been deported since secured communities program started almost a year ago. 111 of them had no prior criminal conviction. california prisons are going green. the department of corrections announcened the deal with an energy company to install solar panels at five prisons. sun edison will pay for the installation and sell the electricity. they're in southern california and the central valley. officials expect to save $55 million over 20 years and construction is scheduled to

begin next year. a kansas first grade is recovering this morning from injuries after being attacked by a leopard. it happened yesterday at a wichita zoo. the 7-year-old boy on a school outing reportedly climbed over a four-foot railing at the leopard enclosure. the animal grabbed the boy and clawed his head and neck. a witness says the child immediately started screaming, prompting one couple to jump into action. >> a man and woman sitting there watching jumped incompetent and kicked him in the head and he released the child, and they grabbed him and put pressure on his face. >> the poi was transported to the hospital. he is expected to be okay. an investigation is now underway. the race to save more than 20 whales will continue today in florida. they were found stranded in the shallow gulf water on thursday. yesterday eight of the whales were put into a sea pen so vets

could examine them. one whale has already died after getting severely sick. the vets say the hot florida sun is only making things worse. >> the sun is working against us. if these animals are potentially high and dry on the -- it means their skin is exposed and it needs to be wet. >> a group of monks stopped by yesterday to pray for the whales. the vets say they'll take any prayers they can get. sharks will get a chance to put away the detroit red wings in front of the home crowd. san jose lead their series three games to one after a loss in detroit last night. they came back from a deficit to tie the game. but late in the third period, darren helm scores what would be the winning goal for detroit. game 5 is tomorrow night at the shark tank. tickets go on sale at 10:00 this morning. next to a couple clutch hits, the giants celebrated willie mays' 80th birthday last night at at&t park.

the giants were down two in the 8th, when he slapped a downtown left field line. two runs crossed the plate and it's all tied at 3. then the bottom of the 9th, one out. it was freddie sanchez with a single up the middle. cody ross scores and the giants beat the rockies, 4-3. the oakland a's in a tight one in kansas city. it was tied at 2, when coco crisp grounds to second but beats the double play, and the a's go ahead by one. the royals threaten bringing in the winning run to the plate. matt with the grounder, close play at first. but jackson, way to hang on. he was a little banged up after the play but did get back on his feet. a's win that one, 3-2. the reason a popular tourist destination may be off limits to visitors for a while. plus, the unexpected guest taking up residency at the dumbarton bridge and how it's affecting the ongoing construction there. >> and a cooling trend continues into the weekend.

a wildfire in eastern arizona has forced about 300 people out of their homes. so far the fast-moving fire has burned about 50 acres. power has been shut off to nearby reservations due to concerns about electrical lines. authorities say they believe the fire was human caused. no injuries have been reported. strong winds field a large file in san mateo, forcing more than a dozen people out of their homes. flames were spewing out of an apartment building on north delaware street and east santa inez avenue yesterday. it took firefighters 40 minutes to get flames under control. eight adults and five children were forced out of the two adjacent buildings. the good news is that no one was injured. officials say the fire caused 800,000 dollars in damage. they are trying to determine

how this one started. caltrans crews have made a surprising discovery on the dumbarton bridge. they say a couple weeks ago they did find a nest built by a pair of falcons on the bridge retrofit project. they're not going to tell is where the nest something, but they do say a live camera has been set up to monitor the birds during construction. >> so far they haven't shown any signs of agitation or stress or even being bothered by the work. >> a special biological monitor has been employed to watch the birds during all hours of construction. workers are asked to stay at least 175 feet away from the nest and warning signs are in place. caltrans also plans on putting a protective blanket in place to shield the nested from noise and still plan to finish the retrofit project by late next year. we now know the names of the falcons born atop city hall last month. here they are.

the names were picked from an online naming contest and more than 1500 people voted. the chicks should be flying in just a few weeks. it's just that a beautiful first week of may outside. and then all of a sudden, we got to the weekend. >> exactly. and time for the weekend, and a big weekend. it's mother's day weekend! everybody is celebrating mother's day weekend, right? so getting outside this morning, we're starting to see little peeks of sunshine, but in any case we're going to be cooler today. it's breezy out there, and we're even looking at the possibility of a little light rain in time for sunday. mother's day morning. if you are headed to sierra, we have a advisory in place it. will be breezy. and by tomorrow, a winter weather advisory, fresh snow expected over the sierra. snow levels counsel to 5,000 feet come sunday. and we could see from 3 to 6 inches. so that will be the case for tomorrow. again a lake wind advisory today, and if you like to ski, the winds definitely could imth and the ski resorts. for us, those winds are not going to go away.

here into the afternoon, still blowing between 13 and 17 miles per hour over parts of the north bay. 15 over san francisco. oakland reporting 13 for the afternoon. finally letting up in the overnight hours. but the weekend all in all, just going to be a cool one. you're going to need the jacket. maybe even the umbrella come sunday morning. it doesn't luke look a lot of rain but maybe a spritz or two. we're going to hold on to the low 60s. inland areas will continue to fall. 67 tomorrow. a slight rebound monday, tuesday and wednesday. but again, plans for the weekend ahead. back to you. >> thank you. the winter's heavy snowfall is delaying the opening of a main road through yosemite national park. highway 120 closes in the winter but is typically open by memorial day. the highway provides the park's only road access to the eastern sierra and mono like. right now about 15 feet of snow still remains on parts of that roadway. there's no estimate of when it will reopen.

we are hearing more details of the plans for durbin day in the city of santa cruz. may 14th has been dubbed durbin day in honor of james durbin, one of four finalists on "american idol." he will appear at the boardwalk and sign autographs after that show. other plans include a parade and meet and greet activities. the mother of brian stowe speaks out. >> coming up we'll have the emotional update on his condition and the struggles facing his family. >> and late word of a u.s. attack on another high-profile al-qaeda leader.

it will be a difficult mother's day weekend for the mother of injured giants fan brian stowe she is now speaking out about her son's condition and his vigil at his bedside. they sat down with the los angeles television station and talked about brian's condition. earlier this week, doctors had considered surgery for brian because of a fluid build-up in his brain. late thursday, doctors called that surgery off, at least for now. that is good news, but despite that she is come to terms with the severity of his condition. >> it's very odd, i was looking at his eyes to see if there was

any movement. like any dreaming or anything. and there's just nothing there. the son we knew, the brother they knew, the daddy that my grandchildren had, he's basically gone. >> doctors say the longer brian stays in a vegetative state, the more likely he is to stay that way. she is prepared for that outcome but admits it's getting harder to go into brian's hospital room every day. >> it really shocked me the other day because it was the first time i had seen the side of his head, the left side of his head, without his skull. i could not believe it. >> los angeles police are still searching for the two men who attacked brian. the family is once again pleading for anyone with information on that attack to come forward. she plans to be by his bedside tomorrow for mother's day. her hope to get a mother's day miracle. just about an houring a, more than 100 people started the ride for a reason.

the group of parents, students and teachers will be riding their bicycles from oakland to sacramento. they are doing the ride to call attention to budget cuts to public schools. they plan to ride the 105 miles, while others will take the train then ride the final 40 to 60 miles. but everyone agrees it's for a good cause. >> to support the schools, to support public education. and we're losing funding for public education, and this is a way to show how important it is to keep funding it. >> organizers have raised more than $34,000. this money will go to clairemont middle school and oakland technical high school. once in sacramento, they hope to meet with lawmakers to discuss other options to close the state deficit beside cuts to schools. we are hearing more about what caused the death of a five- year-old mill valley boy in march. the coroner's office is now saying he died of acute respiratory infection. it also noted that he had

strains of h1n1 flu in his system and had an enlarged heart. the new information comes after a nine-week investigation into the boy's death. oakland police have arrested a man found living on a foreclosed property but now his wife says they were conned into living there. on tuesday police were called to this home by a realtor trying to sell the home. she says the man told her he was renting the property. when they arrived, police found items from more than 10 burglaries in the home. neighbors say they had no idea what was going on. >> it's kind of -- a eclectic neighborhood and really safe, and so everybody thinks they're pretty safe around here. >> last night a woman claiming to be the man's wife called our newsroom and said they were tricked into living at that home and said everything police found they own. but 30s say the man has an extensive criminal history of stealing and they're trying to reunite people with their stolen property.

a man was removed from a bart train after scaring passengers with talk of weapons of mass destruction. it happened yesterday morning about 9:20 at the 12th street oakland city center station. passengers say the man was clapping loudly and telling people to be aware of weapons of mass destruction. bart police removed the man from the train. he told police he was just exercising his right to free speech. the u.s. appears to be going after another top terrorist target, just days after taking out osama bin laden. cnn is reporting a u.s. military drone fired a missile aimed at u.s. born anwar, believed to be a senior leader of al-qaeda in yemen. the strike happened within the last three days in an area of yemen. he is known to frequent and he survived that strike but two al- qaeda operatives were killed. he is tied to several terror plots, including the failed christmas day bomb scare in 2009. that's when officials say nigerian born man tried to blow

up a plane as it landed in detroit. he recruited the man for that plot. the militant letter, is also said to have exchanged e- mails with the accused fort hood shooter. the top white house counter- terrorism chief said he poses a bigger threat to the u.s. than the threat posed by osama bin laden. severe flooding has devastated parts of arkansas with one city under 40 feet of water. the mayor says at least 30 homes have been damaged or destroyed. water has flooded most homes and businesses. residents have left and those who are not are using boats to get around. about 50 homes in nearby towns are also under water. five thousand prisoners in louisiana are preparing to evacuate over flood concerns. a prison called the alcatraz of the south is surrounded on three sides by the swollen mississippi river. farmland is under water.

inmates are filling sandbags and have put up a tent. they're moving prisoners to other facilities. good morning to you. a live look at berkeley and the widespread gray outside this morning. those low clouds began rolling in last night and just continued to fill in throughout the latenight, early morning hours. giving you a look at some temperatures this morning, in addition to the clouds we've got cool weather, from five to 10 degrees cooler than yesterday morning and wind to contend with as well. look, 49 degrees now in napa, low 40s san francisco, oakland 49 and san jose the winds blowing to 15 miles per hour. gusting up to 20. we'll look at that in just a moment. san jose a light boy's this morning, livermore reporting a southwesterly wind at 9 miles per hour and concord 14 miles per hour. so in addition to the cool conditions outside our door you have to deal with the winds which just makes it chillier. napa continue miles per more.

neighbors say they have been successful in getting better traffic lights and more no left turn signs. but they say more needs to be done. >> it's the traffic, people making illegal left turns, people running the red lights, and i've been here since 2002, and it's been an ongoing problem at this intersection. >> residents say they would like the city to construct a median on the sonic to help reduce traffic speeds. he faces vehicular manslaughter and dui charges. good news for drivers tired of high gas prices at the pump. a short drop in the price of crude oil could lower gas prices by 25 cents or more. right now the average price for a gallon of unleaded in san francisco is $4.32. in oakland it's 4.27. san jose at 4.27 also. that's the state average for a gallon of unleaded. but until the gas prices start to drop, police say be on the

lookout for people siphoning gas. in concord we spoke to a couple people who returned to their cars to find their gas caps were pried open. one man had a half tank of gas stolen in from a park and ride in concord. areas like that have been targeted before. >> as of right knew it appears to be an isolated incident. but we remember from a few years ago we did have many reports in the park and ride lots and other places. >> highway patrol says it's aware of the problem and is investigating. all officers say buy a gas cap with a lock on it, even gas caps you open with a lever inside. the car can easily be popped. repairs are underway on highway 1 damaged by storms. caltrans says most of the damage was in marin county, just west of the intersection with the panoramic highway. the road will be reduced to one lane in this area. and caltrans says most of the work will be done during the day. crews are hoping to finish those repairs by late july or

early august. let's look outside. you're, loo, at 280 near san jose, a warning for you if you're head out that way. chp says there are some plastic bins in the highway near lawrence expressway. that's the southbound direction. so watch for those. >> two years ago a u.s. serviceman was kidnapped by the taliban. now his father is speaking out. the message he has for the people holing his son hostage. >> those were the only two passengers that were screened. >> and two men ordered off a plane in tennessee, why they say they were targeted.

pacific coast in central japan. they are similar to the reactors damaged at the fukashima daiichi plant. the japanese government is afraid those three reactors could be damaged if another major earthquake or tsunami hits. the government wants the electric company to build a seawall to help protect the reactors. 27 people aboard a plane in indonesia are believed dead after it crashed into the sea this morning. the plane was trying to land when it hit the water instead and exploded and at least 15 bodies were found immediately. bad weather and limited visibility are being blamed nor the rash. an american airlines jet was forced to make a landing yesterday. it took off from miami but landed in vegas because the pilot smelled smoke in the cockpit. the plane at 165 passengers onboard. for the first time the father of a u.s. army service man who says his son was

oakland's jack london square. it happened just before midnight on fifth and washington streets. video shows it appears to be a collision between a honda civic, chrysler suv, tour bus, and possibly one other car. it's still unclosure what led up to the accident, but you can see first responders swarming the scene. they put that victim on a gurney and into an ambulance. expect a higher police presence this weekend bus of cinco de mayo festivities. on thursday night vandals smashed several windows at several businesses. seven people were arrested that night in response officers on motorcycles and bicycles were visibly present. last night in san jose patrolling streets in several businesses, boarded up their windows as well. cinco de mayo celebrations are expected to continue through the weekend. >> his forically it's been an he a haven't event. sunday it tapers off sooner because monday is a workday, but that's not necessarily any

in the box. the search is on for a missing 14-year-old girl in san francisco. police say the parents every emma peacock woke up yesterday morning to find their daughter gone from their home. the parents are concerned because they say the 14-year- old has never run away before. she is believed to be wearing a white t-shirt, blue jeans and black shoes. if you have any information, call san francisco police. new tapes featuring osama bin laden and compound are expected to be made public today. a u.s. official says one of the tapes is home video shows bin laden strolling around the compound. another tape is said to be al- qaeda propaganda. it's not clear what time the tapes will be released today. the decision to release the tapes comes just a few days after the president decided not to release photographs of bin laden's body. some people say the photographs should be released to prove his death. the death of bin laden is leading to some international uncertainty.

president obama told pakistan he would visit the country sometime this year. the trip has been described as a reward for pakistan being an ally against terrorism. but with the revelation that osama bin laden spent the last few years hiding out. in the country, it's not clear if president obama still plans on making that trip. the white house is refusing to comment on the matter. this morning oakland police are searching for a gunman responsible for a brazen double shooting. police found the victim about a block away from each other yesterday. one on 35th avenue and the other on octavia street. allenwood elementary school was locked down as a precaution. the shooter fired shots in a black lexus. two bullets pierced a window. oakland police have not yet been able to identify any suspects. three men suspected of a carjacking and shooting in san leandro have been arrested they confronted a woman at gun punt after she pulled no her driveway on thursday night. the victim screamed for help and her roommate came outside. the roommate was shot in the leg by the gunman and the

suspects jumped in the chevy and drove off. a couple hours later sheriff's deputies spotted the screening on interstate 880. the car crashed while exiting the a street offramp in hayward. the suspects, two adults and one juvenile, were taken into custody. fire investigators are trying to determine the cause of a fire that damaged two apartment building in san mateo. fire broke out around 1:30 yesterday afternoon near north delaware street and east santa inez avenue. eight adults and five children were forced out of the two adjacent buildings. firefighters brought the fire under control in just about 40 minutes. no one was hurt. officials say the fire caused about $800,000 in damage. good morning to you! a live look, san francisco there. we've got low clouds, hovering. but we can see the sunshine beginning to pull through. partly cloudy skies expect for the afternoon. then the clouds will be back by early evening. we're cooler this morning.

officers are on-site. ali will bring us a live report coming up at 8:30. 300 people are out of their homes this morning, thanks to a fast-moving wildfire in eastern arizona. so far the fire has burned about 50 acres. power has also been shut off to nearby reservations due to concerns about electrical lines. authorities say they believe the fire was human caused. no injuries are been reported. parts of the mississippi river will reopen to barge traffic. the river has been closed to all traffic over concerns that the wake from the boats and ships would go over floodwalls. but now the national weather service has lower the projected height of the river. the coast guard will allow traffic through the missouri. caltrans says most of the damage in highway 1 was in marin county. the road will be reduced to one lane in the area. caltrans says most of the work will be done during the day and crews hope to finish repairs by late july or early august.

welcome back. our top story this morning, a double homicide in san jose, this just happened ours ago inside. a home. and ali rasmus is live now at the scene with the very latest. ali. >> reporter: we're told there's about a dozen police vehicles out here from san jose. there's a shift change going on now so right now the meeting you see is the overnight officers profession the daytime officers. they will be taking over this case. here's what we do know. the shooting happened just before 5 this morning at a home on 3400 mount prieto drive in san jose. we can't show you the house bus

it's around the corner. as you can see this street is completely closed to traffic. this is -- mount rushmore drive between martin and mount prieto avenue. two men were shot and killed in that home, a 17-year-old juvenile was wounded. however, we don't know his condition. we're told he was taken to the hospital. police don't have any information for us now about a motive in this shooting. they also don't have a suspect description. right now we're waiting for san jose police public information officers to give us more information about what happened. also to tell us more about a relationship between -- the relationship between the victims and the possible suspect in this case. be sure to stay with ktvu.com throughout the day for the latest updates. we'll see if the officers will give us an update. reporting live, ali rasmus,

ktvu channel 2 news. a missing san francisco girl has now been found. police just told us that emma peacock returned home last night unharmed. she was missing from her moment. she is 14, her parent had no history of running away. she is safe at home this morning. that information just coming in. it will be a difficult mother's day weekend for the mother of injured giants fan brian stowe. ann stowe is now speaking out and her son's condition and the heartbreaking vigil underway at his bedside they sat down with a los angeles television station and talked about brine's condition. earlier this week, doctors had considered surgery for brian because of fluid build-up in his brain. late thursday doctors called off surgery for now. that's good news but despite that, ann stowe says she is coming to terps with the severity of his condition. >> it's very odd. i was looking at his eyes to see if there was any movement,

being arrested in walnut creek with dozens of stolen purses in her car of police tell us the officers were conducting surveillance last night because of a number of auto burglars. inside the vehicle of sheila watson, officers found around 50 stolen purses and other property along with burglary tools. police say watson is on prohibition for prior theft offenses. and in san francisco are calling for more safety managers in the wake of a fatal hit-and-run accident near the university of san francisco. police say a suspected drunk driver hit and killed a 61-year- old man on the sonic and golden gate yesterday morning. police arrested the 23-year-old jose jimenez after they say he crashed into several cars. neighbors have been successful at getting better traffic lights and more no-left turn signs but say more needs to be done. >> it's the traffic, people making illegal left turns, people running the red lights, and i've been here since 2002, and it's been an ongoing

indianapolis. that is where he toured a plant specializing in manufacturing transmissions for clean energy trucks and buses. accused serial killer joseph naso will be allowed to represent himself in court. he is accused of killing four northern california women in the 1970s and 1990s. this is video from his first court appearance last month. the judge didn't allow cameras in court yesterday. the judge ruled naso is fit to serve as his own attorney. he also asked naso if he was ready to enter a plea he is scheduled to enter a blow on may 27th. >> talks of weapons of mass destruction of led to one man being taken off a bart train yesterday. passengers say the man was clapping loudly and telling people to be aware of weapons of mass destruction. bart police removed the man from the train. he told police it was just exercising his right to free

speech. students and faculty at uc santa cruz rallying against racist graffiti found on campus. yesterday 50 people gerd to protest the graffiti. it was discovered on cinco de mayo and reportedly threatened violence against mexicans. this is not the first time racist graffiti has been found. back in march, swastikas were discovered inside a campus bathroom. oakland police have arrested a man found living on a foreclosed property and now his wife says they were conned into living there. on tuesday, police were called to a home in the montclair neighborhood by a realtor who was trying to sell that moment. she says the man told her he was renting the property. but when they arrived, police found items from more than 10 burglaries in the home's backyard. neighbors say they had no idea what was going on. >> it's kind of a -- eclectic neighborhood and it's really safe. and so everybody thinks they're pretty safe around here. >> last night a woman claiming to be the man's wife called our

newsroom. she says they were tricked into living at that home and insisted that they own everything police found. but police say the man has an extensive criminal history of stealing and now they are trying to rea night people with their stolen property. striking nurses will be back on the picket line outside oakland's children's hospital today. they went on strike yesterday, their union says the latest contract offer requires them to pay too much for their own health coverage. the hospital spokeswoman says the increase is only about $2 and says some nurses have already agreed to the terms. >> this dispute is about unions that is out of touch. we are very pleased that about over 30% of the nurses have crossed. >> i'm trying to support my family and trying to keep ourselves above water and this environment. and it's proving to be hard with the hospital trying to take things away us from. >> the nurses say they plan to

when had hit the water instead. the plane exploded into pieces on impact. officials say at least 15 bodies were found immediately but the others are believed to be trapped in that wreckage. bad weather and limited visibility are being blamed for the crash. a japanese power plant has been requested to shut down. the three reactors are at a power plant in central japan, similar to those damaged at the fukashima daiichi plant. the japanese government is afraid the three reactors could be damaged if another major earthquake or tsunami hits. the government wants the electric company to build a seawall to help protect the reactors. this morning, we are awaiting the release of new video of osama bin laden at his pakistan compound and the u.s. percent to be focusing on going after other senior al-qaeda leaders. uc berkeley professor joins us to talk about all of these very little. good morning, professor.

>> my pleasure. >> let's talk about this week. the photos of osama bin laden's body. good decision, bad decision to not release them? >> that's a very hard call. i actually would probably be in favor of releasing the photos of the body. but on the other hand you can see why the administration wouldn't want to do it. it's a very hard call. you're damned if do you and damned if you don't. >> as far as the backlash concerns, how do you think the reaction would have been to have those pictures out? it was in the community. >> there could have been a little more backlash. i don't think he's popular enough for this to make that much of a difference. the fact they were gruesome photos as president obama said in some of his people mentioned, might have made a difference. i really don't think it makes all that much of a differences. >> how do you think president obama is handling this? initially his approval rate having gone up at least on this issue. do you think he's handling this well and do you think this good favor he is getting from americans will last in the long-

term? >> well, i think he's handling it very well. he has not shown a great deal of triumph. he is saying a job well done to the central forces but not declaring we've won the war on terrorism. he is warning it will be a long, hard road ahead. he seems to be very realistic about this. >> and how critical is it for the withdrawal of troops there in july that he stays on point there at least on schedule of having that start to happen? >> well, i'm not sure he will be able to pull that off. i think that deadline was meant to be flexible if he wants to hov out sooner rather than later this will make it easier for him to do to. >> as far as a lot of security we talk about security and the troops and everything there, as far as the battle against al- qaeda, and the organization that still exists even though their leader is now gone, where do you think we're head indeed the time frame people say it's

not tomorrow we have to worry about but a year from now. what do you think about those issues? >> it's really a year from now and 10 years from now. this is something that will go on for a long, long time. this is not the kind of war that can be won with the death of one person. it's not the kind of struggle that will be over in any time soon. remember that a lot of the muslim world still labors and these authoritarian regimes briefs this terrorism. this is certainly a blow in the right direction, though, for sure. >> okay, professor, thank you for your time pin sight. the united states appears to be going after another top terrorist target just days after killing osama bin laden. cnn is reporting a u.s. military drone fired a missile aimed at u.s. born anwar who is believed for the senior leader of al-qaeda in yemen.

the strike happened in yemen in an area he is known to frequent. he survived the strikes but at least two al-qaeda operatives were killed. the leader is tied to several terror plots, including the christmas day bomb square in 2009 when officials say this man tried to blow up a plane in detroit, michigan. he recruited the man for that plot. the cleric is also said to have exchanged e-mails with the accused fort hood shooter. he poses a bigger threat to the united states than the threat posed by osama bin laden. high gas prices are causing more problems for drivers. in concord we talked to a couple people who got their cars to find their gas caps were pried open and gas siphoned out. one man had about a half of

tank gas stolen, about $50 worth, at a parking lot in concord. >> as of right now it appears to be an isolated incident but we do remember from a few years ago when gas prices spiked, we did have many reports in the park and ride lots and other places. >> the highway patrol says it's investigating all reports coming in. officers say the best thing for people to do, buy a gas cap with a lock on it. even those you open with a lever inside can be easily popped open. the results are in from this year's prescription drug takeback initiative in san francisco. it was part of a national effort to collect unwanted prescription drugs. san francisco police tells us they received 771 pounds of prescription drugs at all 10 district stations. they say that's an increase of 92% from the last takeback in october. earlier this morning, more than 100 people set off on a ride for a reason. the group of parents, students

and teachers will be riding their bacterias from oakland to sacramento to call attention to budget cuts to public schools. organizers raised more than $34,000 to go to clairemont middle school and oakland technical high school. they're hoping to meet with lawmakers in sacramento about the cuts. tomorrow is mother's day, and bay area businesses are preparing for the celebration. flower shops say this year orders are up, and hundreds of bouquets will be going out. restaurants in san francisco are preparing special menus for moms and they say they are booking up fast with people eager to celebrate that special day. >> mother's day is every bit as good as easter and up there with christmas and the other holidays. >> other people we spoke to say they will be spending online messages and videos to their moms. some are also planning on changing their facebook profile picture to a photo of their mother. they say the internet is a perfect solution for
