and a happy mother's day to all of you mothers out there. >> a cold start to this spring day. let's start with meteorologist rosemary orozco. >> not a good day for that spring dress. it's going to be cool out there. it is going to be wind that will catch us. blustery out there this morning, and the winds are expected to continue throughout the afternoon. everyone gusting to 30 miles per hour at times. today, is going to be the coolest dayest entire week. we'll show you the current conditions, as you step out for this morning, and what to expect the rest of sunday, and the week ahead. we could learn more information today about a shooting in fairfield that left three people dead, and one injured. police said it happened on venus drive about 12:30 p.m. they located a man and a woman both shot to death. the alleged gunman, jason iceberg dieded at the hospital

from what police say was a self- inflected gunshot wound. another man was also shot in the foot. the motive is being investigated. but some neighbors say they believe the shooting was sparked by a domestic dispute involving ownership of the home. >> the bigger part to me is the loss of life. it seems so unnecessary. they were, you know, could have been other ways to handle it. understand just so sad now that all of these people are gone. >> police say all the victims involved lived together inside that house. the father of the alleged shooter who also lived at the home managed to get unharmed. two adults and two 6-year- old twins are dead, after an apparent murder suicide in southern california. the scene in southern los angeles. the l.a. police department responded. the woman died at the scene, and an ambulance did rush the 6- year-old boy and girl to the hospital, where they died.

the relationship twine the suspect and the victims isn't nobody. a shooting before 1:00 a.m. on east street. police found a person who was shot multiple times. the victim was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. so far, no arrests have been made. for homeless mothers, every day can be a struggle. on this mother's day, one group is hoping to give 25 homeless monals a much needed, and a very rare day of pampering. live with that story, as well as our mother's day preps. >> reporter: we're live outside the hamilton family center in san francisco. inside these doors is where these mores will be given a special pampering session. it will be followed by a mother's day brunch. we're going to explain more about the goal behind that pampering session, first, we want to show you other preparations happening for mother's day. the market opened at 4:00 a.m.

today in preparation for a very busy day of business. it's where flower shop owners across the bay area come to stock up on all the supplies for the day. the florists said besides valentine's day, this is the biggest day of the year for them, and for their business. >> it's huge. it's enormous, yeah. aside from valentine's day, it's our next one. mothers and lovers, you know. >> for mother's day, we do like 300 bunches. >> and 24 flowers in a bunch. >> 25 stems for a bunch. >> reporter: going baseball to the mother -- back to the mother's day pampering. this is video of the complimentary makeover the mothers got last year. along with showing their appreciation for those mothers, part goal here with this event is to approximate boost their

confidence with teak smack overs. because many of these moms receive services at hamilton center are going to start the job process, and start putting their lives back together and getting back on their feet. they say, doing a makeover like this, helps boost their confidence and get number ready for the next -- them ready for the next step. we're learning a drunk driving suspect has ties to the sheriff's didn't. he is accused of hitting and killing a 61-year-old pedestrian. the san francisco chronicle reports that jimenez is a sheriff's cadet. and has been working as a security guard at the city's 911 emergency call center since 2008. the sheriffs office says he was on his day off when the accident occurred. well, it could be too good to be true, but oil analysts say gas prices could drop

nearly 50 cents as early as next month. following demand and concern over rising supplies should lead to the drop. it's a reversal from the first four months of this year. the price of course is always much higher here in the bay area. one small business owner we talked to said he's skeptical about the possible price drop. >> i don't see 50 cents. i don't think the oil companies are that generous. >> it remains to be seen if the price drop will be here in the bay area. but worldwide demand is still high, that means we could see less of a relief here at home and at the pump. click on the business tab, and choose consumer from the drop down menu. good morning to you, giving awe live look over the bay,

we're seeing just little peeks of sunshine this morning. mostly cloudy skies. we will break away to partly cloudy for the afternoon. relieving just a slight chance for that sprinkle, but again, it will be wind that i want results your day. down and around the santa cruz mountains. the winds really blowing this morning. 14 san francisco. shifting north, napa just a light bries. temperatures very similar to yesterday. if you remember yesterday, some of us had the gusts and they are back this morning. some of us never saw the winds really go away. we do have wind in and out of the areas along. no winter weather advisory. they allowed that to expire. if you are traveling to the sierra, be prepared for the

still a bit cool for this time of year, monday into tuesday. overall, not a bad looking forecast, as we roll through the next several days. we'll take a look at your day plan ner coming up in a bit. osama bin laden at his pakistani compound. in this one video, you can see bin laden seated on the floor of the combound, wrapped in a blanket, wearing a knit cap. he appears to be watching footage of himself on television. in another video, the u.s. government says bin laden is delivering a propaganda message. you can notice the wrinkled background there behind him. government officials removed the video audio from this message. officials say it would be inappropriate to broadcast his words to his followers. other evidence recovered from the combound was still active in planning terror plots

against the united states. pakistani residents living in the town where u.s. forces found bin laden are expresses skepticism over these new videos. the front page news in abbottabad this morning. one person told the associated press, the body language, and face do not match up with the real terror leader. another person also said they believe the u.s. faked bin laden's death. time now, 7:10, a security drill scheduled today at a south rail station. but it does not have anything to do with the threats of osama bin laden. it will not directly involve caltrain, or amtrak. the drills are going to focus on scenarios that deal with terrorist activity. the ac transit board this

good morning to you, a bit of an ominous start to the day. san jose coming in at 53 degrees. there is no doubt that cancer is frightening, and even more so for the children who have to fight it. a day off from cancer, it's called courageous kids day. we want to introduce you to one girl who will be there. >> reporter: she will tell you her mother is her everything. her friend, her rock. the one who's always been there. >> i remember, sometimes more than i want to remember, but i remember a lot. i think there's a reason for that. >> reporter: carmen was just 2 years old, when she was diagnosed with leukemia. painful tests, and endless prayers. >> i was constantly praying.

god gave me this strength. >> reporter: carmen, who is a high school senior went into remission when she was 5. she's also when she went to her first courageous kids event. this year, for one final year, she will join a record 58 to families, who on this day, just want to enjoy a day, without having to worry about cancer. >> i love that they've dedicated this day to mother's day. i know like when he was going through my cancer struggle, my mom was the one that was always, always there for me. >> reporter: today, car men finds strength in her family. her earliest memories of struggle and pain, but also of faith and love, and her mother. >> i'm so thankful for my mom. >> reporter: next year, carmen will be too old to attend the event.

she says she is coming back, but as a volunteer,. it usually costs you $100 per tests, but this morning, in san francisco, your medical checkup is free. the 10 month nationwide, aarp, and walgreens wellness tour will be making a stop at the walgreens. the screenings will start at 11:00 this morning and end around 5:00 p.m., one year, aarp memberships will be given to all adults who receive health tests. the tests will be oftenned also tomorrow at -- offered tomorrow. jury selection will begin tomorrow in florida for the casey anthony trial. the toddler was reported missing by her grandmother after she had not seen her in 6 weeks. the body was found three weeks later. the trial is expected to last about 8 weeks.

search crews are looking for a canadian man who's wife was found alive after missing for seven weeks. this is surveillance video of rita and albert. when they were last seen together at a store in oregon on march 19. their van became stuck in mud in the remote mountains of northeastern nevada on march 19. rita was found alive inside the van. and said she survived on water and trail mix. her husband albert says he left with a gps unit after three days to try to find help. yesterday, crews were tearing down the house when witnesses say they heard a cry coming from that home. firefighters were called to the scene, and they retrieved a woman's body from the rubble. the medical examiner's office in atlanta is now working to identify her. >> all the reports we're receiving is that the building

>> reporter: flooding is such a sad story on the mississippi, because it goes so slowly. you can take a look, everywhere here in this neighborhood, everything is flooding, and the water is not moving. it's slowly increasing, probably gone up about 3 inches since we've been here this morning. you can see it stuck on these homes. rising a little bit. it's going to come up another half a foot, to a foot that until it crests tomorrow. they're hoping that the levees protect from a massive flooding. like those levees breaking and such, but they've never really been tested to this level. everywhere you look here along some of the lower lying communities, all of these homes are gone. you can see a stop sign here that gives you an idea of how deep it is. just the top letters of the stop sign. in the back, just a park for kids. everything under water.

these guys had to evacuate on thursday, it's been flooding that long. it's probably going to stay under water for a week and a half to two weeks. nothing will be able to be salvaged. everything will have been to be thrown away, that's just right here in this one community in memphis. it goes all along many count communities along the mississippi river. >> live in memphis, tennessee this morning for us, thank you very much. an inflatable bounce house collapsed in southern california. it happened in encino yesterday at a street festival. about eight children, between the ages of 3 and 10 were hurt. their injuries are said to be minor. a worship has been christened in maine. >> there we go. it did take two attempts, but the mother of navy lieutenant,

michael murphy followed tradition, and smashed that ball of champagne. it will call hawaii it's home port. yesterday would have been murphy's 35th birth day. three members of that team were killed in a gun battle with taliban fighters in afghanistan in 2005. the newest stamp from the u.s. post office honors those who made the ultimate sacrifice. the military color guard helped them unveil the purple heart stamp. it's given to those wounded or killed in combat. >> the purple heart more than any other medal in our inventory of medals is a remembrance, a recognition. it is a cry out to all americans and this stamp will assist in that to say, do not

every day can be a struggle for mothers who are homeless. but on this mother's day, one group is honoring more than two dozen homeless moms with a rare day of pampering. >> this special mother's day treat is happening in san francisco this morning. 25 mothers in for a day they will hopefully never forget. allie rasmus live in the city today to give us a look at what's happening now, and what's also ahead for these mothers. >> reporter: >> reporter: that pampering session is happening in this room we're standing in. it looks like a regular old conference room now, an hour from now, it's going to be transformed into a virtual salon. the 25 moms who receive services at this family center are going to be sitting in these chairs, and receiving a complimentary hair and makeover session. you were telling me earlier, it's not just about showing these moms your appreciation for them, there's also other

and 11:00 p.m. a reunion between violinist, and violin. emily cox says she thought she would never see it again. worth an estimated $23,000. cox, a student at the san francisco conservetory of music says her instrument was stolen from a rehearsal room two weeks ago, police located video of the suspect, scott sylvester, seen on a muni train carrying the violin and its case. he dropped it off at a church, the priest called police. >> i was thrilled. i never thought i would see it again. it's kind of amazing. >> san francisco police say sylvester was arrested thursday after officers located him sleeping on the muni bus. newly installed san francisco police chief, greg sur is making more cuts at the top. giving up the personal driver that came with his job. sur says he doesn't need a

driver because he knows his way around town. the new police chief is also downsizing his department issued car from an suv to a ford focus hybrid. he also announced last week, he would be giving up his $25,000 cost of living raise. the two men convicted in connection with a crash will be sentenced to prison. the officer was killed during a high speed chase during july of 2006. this is video of that fatal crash. the two men, 25-year-old carl lather, and nicholas smith were inside, but not driving the van that struck and hit the patrol car. police say the men were robbery suspects evading police. the driver of the van was sentenced in january to life in prison after a jury convicted him of first degree murder. new details this morning on possible safety problems for san francisco's muni buses. according to the examiner, inspections made earlier this year cited 70% of muni's bus

leads for violation. problems included corroded bat rays, defective brake parts and windows that didn't work. one bus had to be taken out service. a muni spokesperson is calling it maintenance problems. but 40% of the fleet will need to be replaced in the next few years. the city of san bruno is expected to issue a second building permit this week. the first permit was handed out to homeowners last week. the blast last is september destroyed 38 homes. the owner 21 of those homes planned to move back. six people are without a home this morning after a fire at an apartment building in oakland. it happened around 10:00 last night. the fire was ownldzer control in -- under control in 30 minutes. one person was taken to the hospital with burns still no

word on their condition. the cause was fire still under investigation. a petaluma firefighter is recovering after being hurt while battling a duplex fire. flames were reported just before 6:00 yesterday morning on alma court. he did manage to climb back out, but burned the top of his hand when his glove slid off. police said that started in an unoccupied part of the duplex. fire agencies across the bay area are preparing for a very busy fire season. recent rain has helped to create tall grass, and brush, which could help fuel fires this morning. the fire department has been inspecting several high risk areas to make sure residents have cleared vegetation. fire season will not be officially declared in san francisco for several more woke he is. saying no to a plan by the city to shore up a hillside damaging homes. four of the damaged houses are

the trial? >> she is doing as well as can be imagined. she's doing okay, but she is suffering from post traumatic stress disorder, and she cannot return for the trial. a part of her, her heart really would like to be back there with shane and josh, but she just can't do it. >> i know the contact with shane and josh has been pretty limited. but you haven't really talked to them since thanksgiving. how are they doing as far as you know? obviously, concerns are growing, because they've been there for so much longer, and we still have no idea when they're going to come home. what do you know about their condition? and what do you expect for this trial coming up? >> shane and josh, are of course innocent. we know that and the world knows that. iran knows that. as far as their conditions, we have no idea whatsoever, we live in fear every minute about how they really are. you know, we just hope that iran at this point will come to

their senses, and stop playing games with them, and end that nightmare for us, and for them. >> do you expect a fair trial? >> we expect a trial. like i said, world opinion is on our side. and we know they're innocent, and iran does also. >> can you talk a little bit about shane and josh's families? have you been in contact with them, and how are they coping at this time? >> we're in constant contact with each other. lauren and cindy are, of course, very, very anxious, nervous, frustrated, angry, that this has gone on so long. but they're holding up. we're all holding up, we're going it continue to speak out and do what we need to do until they're released. >> it obviously has taken a toll. i know you have said it is effecting everyone's health, their jobs, their lives. you guys have been in a holding pattern for almost two years now. >> we have. it's been a bad dream, and we hope it's going to be over soon, and we know it can be. it just needs to get done.

they just need to be released. >> all right. well we really appreciate your time this morning. we're watching things closely over iran. >> thank you both. a blue store mom received an unexpected mother's day gift in san jose. her son, army specialist johnny winn made a surprise appearance at a lunch honoring military moms in the south bay. he came home from brook army medical center in san antonio. in 2009, winn was injured by a roadside bomb while serving in iraq and lost one of his legs. yesterday's lunch, he described his state of mind right after that blast. >> the first thing that came to my thought was mom. what is my mom going to think? oh, man. she's not going to be happy. >> organizers of the lunch say

the goal is to help the women cope with their daily fears with having their sons and daughters overseas. in news of the world. forces loyal to moammar gadhafi are being blamed for a huge fire in one of the country's last rebel held cities. this is youtube video that shows the fire. no injuries have been reported, but the fire is prompting fears of a possible fuel shortage for the rebel movement. violence between muslims and christians in egypt is now building becamed -- being blamed for 10 deaths and 100 injuries. these are huge flames coming from the burning building in cairo over a woman planning to convert from christianty to islam. that led to stones being thrown, gunfire and firebombs.

the ongoing nuclear crisis in japan doesn't appear to be effecting that country's energy policy. a top official said the country will continue to rely on atomic power. on thursday, the marin energy authority voted to approve a resolution calling for the state to decommission two nuclear power plants. the fairfax town council approved a similar resolution on wednesdayment sporters say the state needs to move to greener power sources. california's two plants are located in san diego county and san luis obispo county. right now, massage therapists are required to be licensed with the state, but not required to have permit san

mateo county is considering require a permit as a crackdown on prostitution. san jose is considering a car sharing program. the city would buy new cars and make them available for drivers to share. drivers may have to pay an hourly rate in the 5 to $10 range. the estimates are based on what other cities and businesses charge. all the cars would be used for city business. about a year from now, san franciscans will have the oping of buy -- option of buying nonpolluting power. as many as 75,000 residents and businesses could opt to buy 100% renewable power. the electricity would cast more than power from pg and e, but would still be generated from the power lines. apple launched its popular ipad 2 in beijing this weekend.

information about a shooting in fairfield. police say it happened inside a house on venus drive about 12:15 yesterday afternoon. the alleged gunman died at the hospital from what police say was a self- inflicted gunshot wound. another man was also shot in the foot. a motive is being investigated. but some neighbors say they believe it was sparked by a domestic dispute involving the ownership of that home. >> the bigger part to me is just the loss of life. it seems so unnecessary. there could have been other ways to handle it. it's just so sad now that all of these people are gone. >> police say all of the victims involved live in that home together. the father of the alienalled shooter -- alleged shooter who also lived there managed to get out unharmed. a shooting of two men. 31-year-olds were killed at a home around 5:00 a.m.

yesterday morning. a 17-year-old was also shot, but is expected to survive. neighbors say there was a party going on, and they heard arguing. the two killings are san jose's 17th and 18th homicides of the year. the man accused of driving drunk and killing a pedestrian in san francisco has ties to the sheriff's department. this is video of jose jimenez being placed into an ambulance. he is accused of hitting and killing a 61-year-old pedestrian, and smashing into several parked cars. the san francisco chronicle reports that jimenez is a sheriff's cadet. he has been working as a cadet at the 911 emergency call center since 2008. the sheriff's office says jimenez was on his day off when this accident occurred. 25 homeless moms will be given the star treatment. the women are preparing for a rare day of pampering. >> reporter: hi, that pampering is going to happen inside this

mothers day preparations happening throughout the city this morning. our first stop was at wholesale flower market at 4:00 a.m. that flower market is where flower shops from around the bay area come to pick up supplies to fill their orders for the day. when we talked to one of the florists there, he explained that mother's day, and valentine's day together make up 30% of his year long sales. it is a very long day. he also says if people don't have flowers yet, it's not too late to go to your flower shop and get them, but he recommends you call ahead. the pampering session here is going to take place in about a half hour from now. we are hearing people prepare in the back, when we check back with you guys in 30 minutes, we should see some of the people starting their pampering session. allie rasmus, ktvu, channel 2 news. new footage released this weekend shows osama bin laden at his pakistani compound. the u.s. government released five different videos

yesterday. in this one video you see here, you can see bin laden streaming on the floor of the combound, wearing a knitted camp. he appears to be watching footage of himself on television, and scrolling through a dvd menu. on another, it says he is delivering a propaganda message. government officials remove the audio from this message. officials say it would be inappropriate to broadcast the terror leaders words to his followers. they also say these videos prove bin laden was still active in planning terror plots against the united states. pakistani residents living in the town where u.s. forces found bin laden are expressing skepticism over those videos. one person told the associated press, the body language, and face don't match up with the real terror leader. another person said they

believe the u.s. faked bin laden's death. new this morning, dozens of people are hurt after a train crash in new jersey. this happened about two hours ago, when a train slammed into a platform in hoboken. service is now suspended in and out of that station while the crash is being investigated. all of the injuries were minor. homeowners in san pablo are not happy with the city's plan to shore up the hillside that collapsed in rain. four on wyman street, the others are on hillcrest road. the homeowners have balked at the city's request that it be released from liability from any damage caused. the city manager say as proposal by the homeowners that does not include a liability release would put the city at severe financial and legal risk. good morning to you. a live look from bay point where we have a mix of sunshine and clouds.

parts of illinois, and kentucky, down to louisiana are going to be evacuating because of seens like this. all kinds of homes, water about halfway up their homes. these homes sit about 2 feet up to start with. giving you an idea of how high the water is by this stop sign here. you can see the tops of the letters there. that has come up by probably about 2 inches. do expect to see the river crest in memphis, the mississippi river by tomorrow. right around 48 feet. the highest they have ever had was 48.7 feet. a lot of levees were built after it, and they're not sure how the levees will hold. the levees are holding, but the water is so high, it's flooding out neighborhoods like this. this isn't the kind of flash flooding where a river will

crest quickly and recede. this is a very slow, painful flood. it's going to be this way likely for a week, to a week and a half. all of these structures will have to be thrown out. the best they can hope for is if they stay in tact to get them out easily. it's worth noting, we're about two and a half miles away from the river. this is what it looks like here. so all of the low lying communities around the mississippi, and any of the rivers that feed into the mississippi are all backed up. it takes about another two weeks before it gets down towards parts of louisiana. we're going to be talking about this flooding. the flood of the century is what they're calling it here in parts of the mississippi. time now is 8:19. wishing your mom a happy mother's day, even when you're thousands of miles apart.

back out, but then he burned the top of his hand. police say the fire started in an unoccupied part of that duplex that was once used to grow marijuana. san jose fire officials say a young girl caused about $40,000 worth of damage to her home, after she started the fire playing with a lighter. when firefighters arrived, they found heavy smoke upstairs, but were able to contain the fire to just the bedroom and no one was hurt. new information on osama bin laden's wife and eight children. the pakistani government says it's now holding the family for questioning. the u.s. government handed over the wife and kids to pakistan after last week's raid on the compound. no country has fought extradition for either bin laden's wife or kids. there is a security drill
