9th i'm pam cook. let's check in with steve paulson for the monday morning forecast. i know i'm ready for less wind. >> you and other people. a cool and windy weekend. temperatures a little cool this morning pap lot of 40s. we will end up with 50s and low 70s. now here is sal. >> steve 101 san francisco northbound looks good approaching the 80 split with no major issues. however on the lower deck of the bay bridge there is road work that is closed most of the lanes up until treasure island. westbound 92 as you head to the high-rise that traffic moves well. let's go back to the desk. topping our news this morning a frightening incident of a flight that landed in sfo. an unruly passenger got out of his seat and rushed toward the cockpit. ktvu kraig debro is at sfo this morning with new information. >> reporter: few of the passengers here this morning at

sfo heard about what happened last night. it happened at terminal two actually the passenger was on a flight that landed here at terminal two the american airline flight 5061 from chicago. it took some passengers to subdue the man and he was taken into custody and now in a jail. it all started around 9:15 last night. that's when the plane landed. about 30 minutes before the flight touched down a man walked through the first class cab inand started -- cabin and started banging on the door. i hear he was subdued by passengers. >> correct. after he banged on the door the flight attendant asked for assistance. two passengers seating nearby secured the suspect. >> reporter: we have been

reading blogs on the internet. the passenger was yelling something having to do with an arabic phrase god is great. >> i also did hear that. i haven't seen the police report yet. i can't confirm that for you at the time. >> reporter: the man that was arrested. what was he arrested under suspicion of? >> he was arrested on a federal charge of interfering with a flight crew. he's currently at the san mateo county jail. >> reporter: was this an american or a foreign passport? >> i know he had a california id card with him as well as a yemen passport with him. >> reporter: it has been over am week since osama bin laden was killed. is there any known connection to that? >> not at this time. i haven't heard anything along the lines of connection. >> reporter: okay was anybody hurt during the scuffle on board the airplane? >> the passenger that was involved did get some abrasions on his elbow and knee and was treated and released from the san mateo county hospital

there. >> what about federal investigators? were they involved in this? >> yes. >> reporter: sergeant michael rodriguez of the san francisco police department. the suspect his name is ragetet. he's 28 years old. we don't know his residence. well just one of three incidents on airplanes in the past 24 hours. coming up in 11 minutes the two threats that forced passengers off two other planes. also this morning firefighters are monitoring an overnight house fire in oakley for flair ups. flames were shooting from the roof. no one was inside at the time and no one was hurt. firefighters attacked the fire from the outside with the help of a ladder truck.

it took about an hour and a half to put out the flames. an arson investigators has been called in. we do have a crew headed to the scene. we'll have a live report coming up at 5:00. police are investigating another attack at napa state hospital. a patient with a long history of violent behavior attacked a psychiatric technician that stepped in to help a female colleague. both workers were hurt. yesterday's incident is raising the already serious concerns about hospital employee safety. >> there has avenue needs to -- there needs to be something done with the safety. >> how do you feel about your own safety? >> we are stop substantiately watching over our own shoulders. >> just last month the state fined the hospital $100,000 for safety violations after a series of violent attacks over the past several months. psychiatric technician donna growth was killed in one of the attacks. we are learning new details

about the man suspected of carrying out a murder citizen. a 37-year-old man shot and killed his two roommates on saturday before taking his own life. the victims included his ex- wife and a 41-year-old man. now we've learned the day before the rampage that the suspected gunman has been served some sort of legal document that neighbors believe has to do with the title to the house they were living in. neighbors also tell us here that the man threatened to kill his ex-wife and police had been called to the house several times before including the night before the shooting. >> the officers did everything they could do the night before. there was no indication there was going to be any violence. much less to this level. >> the man in the house had minor injuries. an information is under way -- an investigation is under

way on how a woman lost control of her car and plunged off a steep cliff. she was the only person in the car and pronounced dead at the scene. she drove off of highway 101. her identity has not yet been released. president obama says last week's koa man doe raid was the longest 40 minutes of his life. the president says no one knew for sure that bin laden was in the compound in pakistan but he didn't lose any sleep over the possibility that if bin laden was found he might be killed. the president says that anyone that questions the killing of a mass murder like bin laden needs to have their head examed. the u.s. is asking pakistan for access of his three lives. they are in custody along with several children. the cia would like to interview the women about bin laden and

the inner working of al qaeda but relations with pakistan are intense since the raid. it's not clear if the cia would be allowed access. there is a new controversy tied to the killing of osama bin laden. the code name of the top secret military mission was jer ran moe. people here in the bay area and u.s. are angry. they say he spent his entire life fighting for his people. >> when this comes out and associating a hero with a terrorist what does that say? to me it's what they still think of us. >> you know i think -- >> many native americans would like to see an apology from the u.s. government. we do have continuing coverage of osama bin laden here on channel 2 and on our website ktvu.com. you can find the latest

information and the videos of bin laden that were released over the weekend. a san jose city councilman is apologizing for a drunk driving arrest over the weekend. he was pulled over early saturday morning in downtown san jose. the highway patrol stopped him for a broken taillight. during the stop they noticed he had been drinking. a field sobriety test shows .12. teachers are gathering in san francisco this morning for a march and rally before they board buses to sacramento. they will join teachers from around the state for a sit in marking a state of emergency week of action. teachers are calling on state lawmakers to extend current taxes to avoid deeper cuts and

save jobs. protest events are planned every day this week. on friday one will be held statewide including at the civic center plaza. >> it's 4:39. we want to check in with sal. >> traffic is doing well around the bay area. as a matter of fact, we are looking good on interstate 880. and all the way to the bay bridge toll plaza which is nightlight coming into san francisco. we don't have any major problems looking at the bay bridge it looks light. no major problems come into the city. also 280 northbound getting up to highway 17 that traffic is moving very nicely. it's 4:40 let's go to steve. >> thank you, sal. we have light snow up at tahoe and truckee. you can see the system right there at tahoe. we are getting more of a north wind though. and that is going to clear out and cower out all the low clouds. if you're up in the sierra you might want to wait for that

system. 40s and 30s. 39 at the napa airport. there is a cold air mass in place. if you lose any breeze it's really chilly. temperatures out of that west turning more northwest now. especially you see by vacaville and south, southeast. it's still breezy. high pressure is building in as the low moves to the south. a high to the north. that will give us a northerly breeze. that will take care of all the low clouds. it will still be breezy today and a chilly morning. it will be a little warmer as temperatures they try to warm up under the north wind. 60s upper 60s and low 70s. especially east bay. the extended forecast does have things quieting downwind wise. sunny and warmer tuesday and wednesday. a very unseasonally cold system gets closer on thursday and friday. all signs point toward rain coming in on sunday. >> oh my goodness. all right. another flight was diverted from its destination.

good morning, it's cold out there for some. napa is down to 39. it's a cool morning. it will be sunny to mostly sunny today and breezy out of the north. 60s to low 70s. people in memphis are bracing for what is likely to be historic flooding. moments ago forecasters warn that the swollen mississippi river may reach its peak late tonight. hundreds have been told to leave their homes because of the threat. the army corp of engineers is monitoring the situation. the river is moving at a very fast rate. >> this water that we are seeing going by. this water is moving about two million cubic feet per second. in one second it would fill up a football field 44 feet deep. >> heavy rains over the last month have overwhelmed the rivers levies. flooding could effect louisiana next. passengers on two flights found themselves spending times

in cities they haven't planned to visit before reaching their final destinations. the first was a delta flight scheduled to fly from detroit to san diego. it was diverted to albuquerque where passengers were questioned. passengers say a note including the word bomb was found in the lavatory but the note turned out to be a hoax. and a continental -- and a continental flight from houston had to make a stop in st. louis. he heard a flight attendant scream and he jumped up to see if he could help. >> i saw this guy with his hands on the door. so what i did is jumped on his back put him in the choke. >> the passengers held on to the man until the plane landed in st. louis. authority there is took him off the flight and held him for questioning. in japan a nuclear power plant will shut down.

japan's prime minister asked the plant to close its three reactors while new safety features are built. it's estimated 19% of japan's manufacturing companies receive power from this particular plant. it sits in an area where a major earthquake is expected within 30 years. the government asked the plant to close after safety inspections of the country's 54 reactors. meanwhile evacwees of the hardest hits by the march earthquake and tsunami are move into temporary housing. this town needs about 1800 temporary homes. but only about 1,000 have been built. officials say it was difficult to find a place to build because of a lack of high ground in the area. the evacwees move into the temporary homes were chosen by lottery. jury selections starts today in the murder trial for a florida mom accused of killing her daughter. 25-year-old casey anthony is charged with first degree

murder of two-year-old kay lee anthony almost three years ago. this is video of anthony at a hearing last week. 20 people will be picked to serve on her trial. 25-year-old could face the death penalty if convicted. the man suspected of shooting a three-year-old girl in san francisco last halloween is dead after taking his own life. it happened on saturday in houston, texas. police say it all started at a greyhound bus station when a security guard noticed a gun on 20-year-old jesse brown. that lead to a confrontation and a shootout. investigators say brown wounded two police officers before turning the gun on himself. now it's believed that brown may have been hiding out in texas after the halloween night shooting last year. that's when san francisco police say brown opened fire in a gang related shooting at 25th and connecticut. a toddler and her 52-year-old

grandfather were caught in the cross fire. however, both of them survived. a five-day strike by nurses at children's hospital in oakland continues. yesterday one man lashed out at the picket line. >> using sick kids as a bargaining chip. >> jeff conway had angry words for striking nurses. police were called and took statements. no arrests were made. nurses are striking over health care and whether nurses should pay more. >> we get mostly support for everybody and from the community. we heard from our patients and families that they support us. >> the hospitals position is that strikes never accomplish anything. bargaining is done at the bargaining table that is not done out on the street. >> the hospital and nurses say that patient care has not been compromised during the strike. nurses are expected to return to work at 7:00 a.m. tomorrow morning. two former marin county

pizza parlor employees that pled guilty to vandalizing a restaurant will be sentenced today. they are expected to receive probation thanks to plea deals. in february they spray painted graffiti on pizza or georgia mica. two groups plan to file an appeal today to stop newly approved expansion plans at the oakland zoo. now according to the oakland tribune friends of nolan park and the california native plant society will ask the city of oakland to halt the project. last week oakland's planning commission approved a plan for the zoo to move more than 50 acres of nolan park. they hope to build a new trail exhibit. new york city commuters catch a break this morning. what crews had to do overnight to insure a smoother ride to work for hundreds of thousands of people after a train crashed

welcome back to the morning news. rescuers plan to resume their search today for a man who's wife was found alive after being stranded for seven weeks. 59-year-old albert is still missing after he left his vehicle to try to get help when the couple became stranded in march. doctors say 57-year-old rita was within days of dying when she was found by hunters. she survived on trail mix and melted snow. they were driving from british columbia to las vegas. commuter train service into new york city is running

normally this morning. that is after a crash injured dozens of people and stopped service for 12 hours. crus worked -- crews worked through the night to repair tracks that were damaged after a train crashed into a station platform. all of the injuries are minor. the train system is the main link manhattan and new jersey. and more than 150,000 passengers use it every day of the week. it's coming up on 5:00. czeching in on our commute -- checking in on our commute let's go to sal. the bart system is doing well. the bart system is up. no major problems. let's take a look at the commute on the westbound bay bridge coming up to the toll plaza it looks okay there. there are no major problems as you drive up to the toll plaza. alsos morning commute looks okay if you are drying on 880 north and southbound. the traffic is moving along pretty well. driving up past the coliseum.

and this morning contra costa county. westbound traffic is moving well. you can see the road sensors are showing a little bit of slow traffic on eastbound four. also the morning commute southbound 680 looks good if you are driving to the nimitz freeway. southbound traffic is moving well from hayward to fremont. let's go to steve. thank you. we do have a little bit of a breeze. mainly conformed to the offshore buoy. not as bad over the weekend. about 20-25 miles an hour. you are over 30 at the point rays lighthouse. for others it will not be as bad like we had over the weekend. it will be there for the morning but gone. the mere fact it's making it and the pact of more this weekend leads us to below normal temperatures. look at napa airport 39- degrees. that's what is happening there.

41 santa rosa. it's a cool morning. a lot of upper 40s and lower 50s. wind directions all over the place. south, west, west, north. we expect it to turn more northerly as the high pressure builds in and the strong low moves in toward utah and northern arizona. we will be on the northern edge of it. the cool air is in place. it will be mostly sunny. still breezy at times. and then after today tuesday and wednesday we will is a lot more sunshine it will be warmer. not a barn burner or anything. but we will see more wind. breezy after a really cool morning. a little bit warmer mid 60s to low 70s. as we said tuesday and warmer. we start to warm things up and then we see a big change again toward the end of the week. warmest day is wednesday. we start a cool down thursday and friday. clouds start to increase.

we will cloud it up saturday and all signs point toward rain on sunday. facebook is playing a big part on news online. a survey released this morning say 3% of all people looking for information choose a specific site because their facebook friends recommend it. that is still small compared to google which directs about 30% of all traffic to the top sites. arson investigators are on the scene of a house fire. the clues they are searching for this morning. and a passenger under arrest after rushing the cockpit of a plane bound for sfo.
