well, good morning to you. welcome to "mornings on 2." i'm dave clark. >> good morning. i'm tori campbell. it's monday, may 9th. topping our news, a frightening security scare on a jet bound for sfo. investigators say a passenger bolted out of his seat and rushed toward the cockpit. ktvu's kraig debro is live at sfo with new information about the passenger and his ties to the middle east. >> reporter: police don't know if the man has any ties to organizations. he has a middle eastern passport. behind me is the terminal where passengers eventually made their way through off the flight landed around 9:15 last night. it was bound from sfo from chicago. about 30 minutes before the flight was scheduled to land, a passenger calmly walked to the cockpit door. the passenger got to the door and started pounding on the

door and yelling. people blogging on a website claiming to be on the flight say the suspect yelled "god is great" in arabic. >> i also did here that, but i haven't seen the police report yet so i can't confirm that for you at this time. >> reporter: police first took the passenger to the hospital to be treated for bruises he received during the struggle. this morning the people we spoke with say they are comfortable with security and those people that were traveling last night say this wouldn't have stopped them from flying. >> you don't really have a choice. i'm going all the way to south america. >> reporter: there was no information whether the passenger was planning this

with anybody. when i spoke to the jail early this morning, they said a photo booking -- a booking photo would not be available this morning, maybe later today. counterterrorism task force was in on the questioning last night. we'll have more later on on "mornings on 2." reporting live at sfo, kraig debro, ktvu channel 2 news. >> thank you, kraig. it is 7:02. there are two other flights that had security issues earlier in the day yesterday. a passenger on board a continental flight from houston to chicago also tried to open a door while in flight. other passengers stopped him. he was taken into custody when a flight detoured to st. louis. and a delta flight landed in albuquerque after a note with the word "bomb" was found on it. no one was hurt. firefighters in southern

california are battling this huge warehouse fire. these are live pictures from huntington park. this is los angeles county. a lot of firefighters out there. the early reports we have say the flames are coming from a food processing plant that makes chinese food. it may have been triggered by some kind of explosion from a boiler room. again, a lot of flames, a lot of smoke, dark smoke. hundreds of firefighters there. we're hearing reports that ammonia may be burning out there as well which would make it a toxic situation. we haven't heard about any evacuations. they are saying the thick columns of smoke, you can see it as far away from los angeles international airport. that's the latest from there. also overnight, a house burst into flames on oakley. it happened on bayview drive around 11:0. jade hernandez is -- 11:30.

jade hernandez is joining us. >> reporter: that's right. within minutes we've heard from oakley police department. we've been told that the fire department is telling the police department this fire is very suspicious. the reason, because this home was empty at the time when the fire broke out. neighbors tell us they noticed police at this home multiple times. strange behaver by the homeowner and his wife and then the couple moved out. recently the home owner then moved out kitchen appliances on saturday and then the sunday the fire. by the time the first engine was a mile away, firefighters could see flames. firefighters arrived before 11:30 last night. the home was already engulfed. no one was home at time the fire broke out. no one was hurt. the fire district quickly upgraded this fire to a two- alarm blaze. one neighbor explained to us what his wife saw.

>> my wife saw some flames and our next-door neighbor on the other side of the of -- of us was spraying with the hose and we basically got out of the house. >> we wanted you to take a look at the home and garage. you can see the damage that the heat did. the coast guard is out here. they are securing what's left of the house. they have been out here since we got here. and the oakland police department contacted us and told us right now, they have spoken to the homeowner who voluntarily came down to the police department to talk to police about this fire. the wife has been located in nevada. so police are waiting for an official ruling of the fire department about the cause this blaze. reporting live, jade hernandez, ktvu channel 2 news. 7:06. the u.s. is asking pakistan for permission to question osama bin laden's three widows. the women are believed to be in

pakistani custody along with several children also picked up from the compound after the raid. they would like to interview the women about the al qaeda and the inner working. but relations with pakistan are tense since the raid so it's not clear if the cia will have access. and president obama says his decision to authorize the raid on bin laden's compound was difficult because even the cia was not absolutely certain bin laden was inside. coming up at 7:15. we'll have a live report from washington, d.c. to learn the president response to critics who say bin laden should not have been killed. 7:07. rescuers plan to resume a search today for a man who has been missing for seven weeks now near the nevada/iowa border. his wife was found alive a few days ago. the man left the van to try to get help when the couple became

stranded in march. but he never came back. the woman is alive and survived on trail mix and melted snow. the couple was driving from british columbia to las vegas. southern california authorities are searching now for a man suspected of briefly -- briefly kidnapping a girl over the weekend. the man climbed through the window in the girl's apartment and took her while she was asleep early yesterday yesterday morning. then he dumped her from his car just a couple of blocks away. the little girl was hospitalized with serious injuries. she was home alone with her two siblings. her some is a single parent and was working a late shift. san francisco police are looking for a man who threed to rain a man -- who tried to rape

a woman last wednesday. the spanish is striked as 5 -- described as 5'9", a stocky build and a short buzz cut. police say he drabbed the woman some bushes and slapped her when she screamed. he had trouble removing her clothing -- clothing and ran off. back on april 9thth a boat capsized. three kite boarders rushed in to help. they saukfully rescued one of the men. the other sadly died. now the u.s. sailing organization will honor them with a medal. ed lee is expected to announce a program today to make car chargers available for free for electric car owners. almost 90 charges will inmade available at parking garages and the san francisco airport

residents and employees who work -- who work at the napa state hospital are arriving at work thinking of security after a patient attacked two workers over the weekend. allie rasmus has more. >> reporter: that's ka right, dave. that's why a lot of people are saying the people who work here need to do a better job. we've had a chance to talk to several staff members and employees as they drive in to start their shift. these renewed calls for increased security call for another attack at a napa state hospital that happened yesterday at 2:30 in the afternoon. they say a staff member was injured after he stepped in to

help. he was treated and not hospitalized. his union representative say he's doing okay. but coworkers say after a struck of incidents like these in the past couple of hours, it's time for the hospital to beef up security. a report found last month 80% of the patients here have a criminal history. that's up from 20% of the patients 20 years ago. hospital staff workers say it's created unsafe conditions. do you feel safe here? >> me, because i'm a male. that's the only reason. for females, it's not that safe. >> reporter: a california department of mental health oversees this hospital. we talked to a spokesperson m sacramento for the department. she says the patient involved in this attack does have a criminal history but she says the agency is trying to address workers' concerns about safety. >> we've began hiring 25 staff members specifically who are safety and security focused.

morning. he and dozens of other people flew to sfo on united flight 1561. the plane landed around 9:15. 30 minutes before touchdown, police say the passenger walked from his coach seat to the cockpit and pounded on the reinforced door. two flight attendant, a retired secret service officer -- >> they were able to subdue him to the ground and use the flight attendants that are used for this type of incident and they were able to place him in a first place seat there. >> reporter: he was taken to a hospital to be treated for the injuries he received while -- during that scuffle. he was later brought back to the airport for questioning. among the questioners was a terrorism, counterterrorism expert for the united states government. in terminal two, passengers are flying in and out of passengers
