>> reporter: a passenger on a flight bound for san francisco begins to pound on the cockpit door. we'll tell you what he did next. there are new demands for hospital security.

good afternoon. we begin with new information on the security scare on the flight bound for san francisco. ktvu arob roth joins us live with more on what's just happened to the passenger that created the scare. rob? >> reporter: tori, we just learned that the passenger on that flight has been transferred to federal custody. the case is now being handled by the fbi. authorities say he has a california identification card and a passport from yemen. police say about 9:00 last night, about 30 minutes before the american airlines flight was about to land, he got up out of his seat. >> the passenger proceeded to front of the aircraft and began to bang on the cockpit door. the flight attendant asked the passenger to return back to his seat. when he refused to, the flight

attendant put his hands on that passenger and physically pulled him away from the door. >> reporter: he had been shouting in arabic. two passengers, one a retired secret service agent, and another retired san mateo police officer helped subdue him. >> they were able to subdue him, place him on the ground and use the flex handcuffs that the flight attendants have for these types of incidents, they were able to put the handcuffs on behind his back. >> reporter: we've learned that at win time, murisia lived in the vallejo area. he suffered some scrapes in the scuffle. nobody else was injured. they say there's no reason to believe he was linked to terrorism. he faces various charges. back to you. >> thank you, rob. two other flights with security issues were diverted. a man on board a can

continental flight from houston to chicago also tried to open a door while in flight. other passengers stopped him and the plane landed in st. louis, where the man was taken into custody. and a delta flight landed in albuquerque after a note with the word "bomb" was found on board. no one was hurt in either incident. the u.s. is pressuring pakistan for permission to question osama bin laden's three widows. the women are beaved to be in pakistan -- believed to be in pakistani custody along with several children also picked up from the compound everyone the cia would like to interview the -- compound everyone the cia would like to interview the -- compound. the cia would like to interview the widows. it's unknown if they will be allowed the access. president obama calls this raid the longest 40 minutes of his life. he says his decision to authorize the raid was

difficult because the cia was not certain bin laden was there. but he finally gave the go a- ahead because the benefits far -- go-ahead because the benefits far outweighed the risks. people who work at the napa state hospital are arriving with to work with their -- arriving to work with security on their hands. allie rasmus is live from the hospital on the workers' reaction today. >> reporter: well, hospital administrators won't let us go beyond the guard gate but this morning we had a chance to talk to many of the employees as they were driving in to work. many are concerned about their safety after what happened yesterday. two hospital workers were injured after they tried to deal with an agitated patient. the worker was treat, not hospitalized and is doing okay. workers we spoke with said they would like to the -- would like

the hospital to step up security and they fights like this are happening on a daily basis. >> we'll see the gates locked up. >> reporter: do you feel safe here? >> no. >> reporter: why? >> because of the individuals who are housed there. they should not be here. >> reporter: a spokeswoman from the california department of health says the patient involved in yesterday's incident has a criminal history. in fact, 80% of the patients do. napa state hospital is supposed to add another unit. the department's spokesperson's says she doesn't know exactly when that new area will be up and running. in the meantime, she says the hospital is taking steps to improve security. >> we've increased the hospital police presence, we've hired workers who are safety and security focused. >> reporter: back in october, an employee was killed on the

job here. a patient was later charged with the killing of psychiatric nurse, donna gross. now, the guards out here tell me that someone brought and laid out the flowers just yesterday evening in honor of the guard that was killed. in oakley, police are looking into a suspicious fire. it happened at a home on bayview drive around 11:0 last night. jade hernandez joins us live to explain the big question police are focusing on. >> reporter: that's right. what caused this fire that destroyed this home is going to determine how oakley police proceed. about ten minutes ago, arson investigators arrived. for now, neighbors will continue to wonder what happened. firefighters can see these flames from a mile away. by the time they arrived, the house was engulfed. single family resident with a shake roof. these houses are pretty close to each other. we did have flames coming from

the -- from inside the house immanging on the neighbor's houses. we were able to keep the fires out of neighbor's houses. >> reporter: what's suspicious to oakley police is this home was empty when the fire broke out around 11:00 last night. no one was home. the police have been to the home several times in the past year. >> they replaced the yard a few times. probably marry tall issues. >> reporter: neighbors de -- deday tail other incidents -- detames other ins -- detail other incidents. the house went up in flames on sunday. >> my wife seen some flames. our neighbor on the other side of us was spraying on the hose and we got out of the house. >> reporter: flames shot through the roof and you can see what the flames did to the vehicles inside. >> major damage to the house

and the fire is currently under investigation. >> reporter: the homeowner voluntarily spoke to the oakley police department and is police -- and police have spoken to his wife in nevada. as i mentioned, arson investigators are now back out here at the scene. jade hernandez, ktvu channel 2 news. >> thank you, jade. it was a busy morning for san jose firefighters as they responded to three fire or smoke hulls. the first happened at a kentucky fried chicken restaurant. they put out a grease fire in the evening. the second was at 6:5 at a victorian. one person is unaccounted for -- 6:53 at a victorian. one person is unaccounted for. and the third one came in 23 minutes after the first call. firefighters didn't find any

fire there. today, pg&e crews are conducting water tests on the natural pipeline. it's the first set of safety tests in the bay area following last year's deadly explosion. crews are filling a stretch of the pipeline with water. more tests will be done in antioch on monday. ahead -- why drivers are being told to avoid one major bay area freeway. people in the midsouth area, holding their breath that the flooding may set records. rosemary is up next to tell us how that weather will affect the bay area's forecast. children are not getting the education they deserve and that means the future of california is at stake. >> why hundreds of teachers are gathering at the state capitol right now. ;

take a look at this car fire on interstate 880 in oakland this morning. an suv went up in flames after it collided with a big rig. one of our news managers captured these pictures on his cell phone. the accident closed three of the four northbound lanes at 5th avenue for about half an hour. that led, as you you see, to a big -- as you see, to a big traffic backup. there were only minor injuries in the crash. however, another three-car accident was reported just

about an hour ago on northbound i-880 at fruitvale avenue. we are learning new details about the man suspected of carrying out a murder-suicide in solano county over the weekend. fair feel police say a 37 -- fairfield police say a 37-year- old man shot and killed his two roommates on saturday before taking his own life. the victims include his ex-wife and another man. police say they responded to the house the day before over some dispute. another man in the house suffered minor injuries in the shooting. he said the suspect gunman had a habit of tough talk but never showed any violence. police are looking for a woman would tried to rain an -- who tried to rape a woman last week. police say he dragged the 26-

facilities in and around the delta. very few parks are on the site. there's no funding for project but some local advocates say water companies should foot the bill. comments can be submitted until the end of the month. teachers around the state are gathering in sacramento at this hour for a sit-in and rally at the state capitol. some teachers held a smaller rally in san francisco. educators held signs and then they boarded buses to sacramento. teachers say they have two message, one is for state lawmakers to extend current taxes to avoid deeper cuts. >> the other message, it's time for tax fairness. we need the wealthy and we need corporations to pay their fair share.

medallion to be put on display in the school office. good afternoon to you. your forecast for today, mostly sunny skies as you can see here over the bay area. we'll be warmer but still a little cool for this time of year. the winds, nothing like that we saw yesterday but we'll be increases -- increasing throughout the afternoon. right now, san francisco airport reporting 13 miles an hour. 9 in areas around oakland and as we move into san jose. the winds are generally light at this time. temperatures at this hour are climbing. as we move through the afternoon, we'll be 5 to 10 degrees warmer than yesterday. giving you a look at the satellite. the tough that brought us all of the wind, now off to the east. but it's expected to retrograde a little bit today. that will leave the possibility for a few skim showers. north bay hills, east bay as well as mount hamilton and we could see just a few scattered showers for our higher elevations today.

the rest of us will be sunny. the winds are expected to pick up. we could still feel cool if it's blowing outside. we'll see a nice forecast as we move through the next couple of days. giving you a look at what we can expect for the afternoon, 72 in santa rosa, 66 for vallejo. 70 in concord. back in the 70s. 7 for antioch and mid -- 70 for antioch. 64 san francisco. 67 expected in fremont, 6 for san jose. los gatos, about 68. again, it will be a little breezy although the winds won't be as gusty as we saw for your mother's day on sunday. your extended forecast, warming up over the next couple of days. it will be quite nice.

program today to make car chargers available for free for electric car owners. almost 90 charges will be made available at parking garages and the san francisco airport until at least 2013. that will help the city learn more about demand for car chargers. the $300,000 program is being funded by a combination of grants. installation begins next month. b.a.r.t. is asking for some common courtesy on the trains. b.a.r.t. says the trains are getting more crowded because the economy is improving and gas prices are rising. now b.a.r.t. is asking computers to help maximize space that includes moving to the center for the car for riders going on. following rules for bike and preparing to exist as the train nears your station. the deadline is approaching for seniors in san francisco to make the switch from paper fast

taking a live look at the big board on wall street. it's a good day, stocks are up right now, thanks to energy and stocks rising with commodity prices. investors pushing oil $103 a barrel. investigators believe the oil may have fallen too far too fast and are sensing a bargain. u.s. safety regulators are investigating a fuel tank problem with ford f-150 pickup trucks. the national highway traffic safety administration says the steel straps that hold up the gas tank could rust and break and that could cause a fire. no injuries have been reported but there have been two fires. the recall is for f-150 trucks made from 1997 through 2001. this weekend marks a big
