>> i'm tori campbell. a computer glitch is forcing first responders in san francisco to do things the old- fashioned way this morning. ktvu channel 2 reporter claudine wong is live in the city to see if this is slowing down police to emergencies. good morning, claudine. >> reporter: good morning. we're at the hall of justice. we have and been talking to the -- we've been talking to folks out here. what happens when you call 911? the information is sent to the car computer. that gives them all of the information that they need and they are on their way. well, that's apparently not working this morning. we've been talking to an officer who tried to log in. he had some difficulty logging in and he could not log in. that's the essence of the problem. the cot pummer system went down -- the computer system went

down this -- went down last night. it's still down this morning. what they are doing is communicating on the radio. people shouldn't notice a change but it's making things come ber cumbersome. we tried to get information from supervisors there. we weren't able to get any information. but they are certainly well aware of the problem this morning. the big question is how long is this going to go on? and what's causing this issue. that's an answer we're not getting. we made this analogy before equating it to a gps that you have in your car. you can still get to your destination if your gps is

police say the 51-year-old man attacked the victim in san jose tuesday night but got away. but wednesday, he was in santa barbara county. that's where police say he was caught driving erratically and was seen either jumping or falling off a freeway overpass. both the stabbing suspect and the victim are in the hospital. police say there's chance neither man will survive. burglars appear to be targeting menlo park this week. police are reporting four lefts on -- thefts on three streets. police say on monday, they took a flat-screen tv and a laptop from a home on hamilton avenue. on tuesday, someone broke into a home on women low avenue. and then on wednesday, burglars broke into women low road. a group. parents want orinda union school district trustees to

investigate an elementary school principal. janice arnerich has been principal since 2004. some parents frequently -- complain frequently about how she disciplines children. there's no word on whether an investigation will begin. well, today teachers will stage rallies all over the state including in san francisco. protesting education cuts. educators took over the state capital last night. >> it's 6:15. we're gonna ask everybody to leave. >> now, 26 teachers were led away in plastic handcuffs after refusing to budge. the president of the california teachers association was among those arrested. we're learning about one area where governor jerry brown plans to take cuts when he

releases his revised budget on monday. his plan can had -- his plan will call for the limitation the california insurance board appeals board. the board is mostly made up with former lawmakers. each of them make about $128,000 a year, despite rarely meeting. 7:05. we want to check in with sal and keep a close eye on some of the problems out there. right now the trouble is on nimitz freeway at 880. there is a crash there. this crash involving three cars. they are moving it. in fact, they've moved it. now there's another crash at southbound 880 on thornton, which is a car facing the other way. >> across the bay and peninsula highway 01 looks good and so does -- 101 looks good and so does san francisco as well.

homes. the army opened up 13 more bays. the more gan za spillway could send water into the basin. residents are already being urged to make evacuation plans. >> the decision to open the floodway could be any time between saturday and tuesday. we continue to ask for five days' notice but at least three days, to give sheriffs enough time for door-to-door notify dation for those who have to evacuate. >> reporter: across the south and lower midwest, about 3 million acres of farmland are covered. >> i'm looking at -- i'm not gonna say a loss but it's input that i have to make up somewhere else, $10,000,

president in 201. we're looking live at his first campaign event that is obviously not ron paul speaking at the moment. this will be paul's third one at the white house. he first ran for president as a libertarian in 19 8 and in 2008, he ran again, the 75-year- old is known as the godfather of the tea party movement. a poll showed that paul had stronger numbers than president obama than any other gop candidate. 7:15. now we're learning that u.s. navy s.e.a.l.s had tiny camera os their helmets when they raided -- cameras on their helmets when they raided osama bin laden's compound. alison burns has more details. >> reporter: there were 25 complain does involved in the raid and they each had a small camera on their helmet, recording the action. cbs news reports intelligence analysts are now reviewing the

video to reconstruct a more accurate version of what happened. the s.e.a.l.s reportedly first saw bin laden on a third-floor landing. they fired but missed. they grabbed bin laden's daughter and then bin laden's wife rushed toward him. they pushed her aside and shot osama bin laden in the head. during a speech to marines, robert gates lamented that so much information has company out about this. >> frankly, we all agreed we would not release any operation am details from the -- operational details from the effort to take out bin laden. that all fell apart on monday, the next day. >> reporter: here is a picture of one of bin laden's wife when he was killed. the u.s. has interviewed three of osama bin laden's wives. they were reportly hostile and revealed no new information.

the agents will try to interview him again. reporting live from washington, d.c., alison burns, ktvu channel 2 news. now we're learning how osama bin laden was able to e- mail other members of al qaeda without leaving a digital trail. navy s.e.a.l.s seized about 100 computer flash drives from bin laden's compound. investigators say bin laden would type the messages and put them on a flash drive and take it to an internet cafe and he would send the e-mails. about 80 people have been killed 120 others hurt after a suicide bomb attack by two bombers in pakistan. the taliban says it's behind the becoming of -- bombing of this paramilitary training center. the taliban is warning it plans

airport security screeners for conducting what they call invasive pat-downs. laws have been introduced in new jersey, hawaii, new hampshire and texas. a bill in texas would make it a crime to use body scanners on passengers. verizon is set to launch an innovation center for app bugs. when it's done, there will be three for testing. developers will be able to see how their apps interact and the effect on battery and performage t will not cost anything to use the lab -- performance. it will not cost anything to use the lab.

these events, some parents got upset and some are planning to come here to lighten that punishment. back to you. >> thank you. oakland police say six people were involved in a crash in an a.c. transit bus and van. the accident happened just northeast of downtown oakland. police are still investigating but witnesses say the van driver ran a red light and smack into the bus. emergency crews took both drivers and four passengers to the hospital. there's still no word on what badly they were hurt. in two hours, the man accused of trying to storm the cockpit of a plane due to arrive in san francisco, prosecutors argue should remain behind bars. she calls him is -- calls him a flight risk and a possible

police say 19-year-old michael pulliam-banks, tuned himself in -- turned himself in last night. he's accused of shooting a 24- year-old pittsburg man in the head during a robbery attempt. the man killed was a suspected drug dealer. police arrested the three other suspects short slip after the killing. hollywood buzzing this morning about -- with the rumor that ashton kutcher will replace charlie sheen on the tv sers "two and a half men." according to "the wall street journal" kutcher is close to signing a deal that would pay him $1 million an episode. charlie sheen was fired from the show. ashton kutcher posted on -- ashton kutcher tweeted a

teachers and faculty. we're live at sequoia union high. the rally here at sequoia wrapped up at 8:00 a.m. the rallies at atherton and woodside wrap up within the next hour. the protests are part of the california teachers association state emergency campaign. this afternoon in san francisco, a larger rally is plan for 4:00. thousands are expected to attend. we caught one teacher heading outside to his own -- to go to his own rally. >> in the short-term we hope to put pressure on the state legislature to cast revenues that are needed and for all of the services for vulnerable populations of california. you are looking at a teacher

and a police officer out there if it's an machine -- if it's an emergency out there. you can see the screen on laptop that's in this police car. that screen is blank. they usually get a lot of information about their calls through those laptops from the dispatch center but that's the computer issue that they are dealing with. that's not getting the -- getting them the information on the laptop. they basically can't do anything with the computers. what they've done in the interim is just used their radio. this is how they've done it for years and this is how they are doing it this morning, they radio in and get all of the information that they need. what is causing this issue, though, that had is still unclear. we did talk to the dispatch center this morning. they say they are working on prob he. they say the primary -- they stay the primary system went

welcome back. some parents and stay tuneds are pretty angry -- and students are pretty angry after graduation festivities are cancelled after a food fight in the cafeteria. allie rasmus has more about how the parents and students are responding. >> reporter: well, dave, we just learned that they are all meeting to talk about some of the punishment that was handed out because of that food fight that you mentioned. some of the parents arrived at the school, they pummed up and they came up to the door of the school with a lot of questions for school staff members. this was less than a day after

finding out via voice mail message, that their students' senior prom and senior trip to disneyland and we're told that the seen years cannot buy the yearbooks. this is all part of the punishment for the food fight that happened on campus yesterday. you are looking at amateur video. it was supposed to be an end of the year prank. one student got hurt and had to be checked out for a minor injury. some say it's not fair to punish everyone, and the parents say they are upset because they helped pay for prom dresses and tuxedos and -- >> they are punishing the parents that went through all of the expense. i think it's totally wrong. >> their school is excellent.

"the times hereld" says the citi plans to install two surveillance cameras on snow may boulevard by the end of the month. that particular area is called the city's prostitution zone. the two cameras will have the ability to zoom in, to pan and tilt. the officials hope that camera can be used to investigate car thefts and other crimes. a memorial service will be held later today for omar aymad, the san carlos mayor who died of a heart attack. the public is invited to the memorial. it begins at 3:00 a.m. at the hiller museum in san carlos. the 46-year-old became mayor in november after being on city council since 2007. meantime, san carlos' vice mayor, andy kline, who has temporarily taken over the mayor's job was arrested on suspicion of dui.

kline estimated -- kline issued a statement that said -- santa cruz police arrested a man suspected of beating and sexually assaulting a woman. thanks to a dna match from a different crime. 18-year-old octavio castillo of watsonville is accused of attacking a 28-year-old woman back in october. when police did the initial search in november, nothing turned up. but then was arrested in february for auto burglary. dna collected from him at the time matched the dna for the october assault. the city has revised its towing policy after settling a lawsuit for $15,000. the lawsuit was filed after police stopped an suv last june for a broken tail -- for a

we're following for you right now. a computer glitch still causing some problems for first responders in san francisco. the laptop computers that police and firefighters use to communicate with dispatchers have not been working right but we just found out in the last 15 minutes, the sours of the problem has been found. u.s. investigators say flash drives seized at osama bin laden's compound contain thousands of e-mail messages between bin laden and his associates. reportedly, bin laden put e- mail messages on the flash drives and then had couriers send the e-mails from internet cafes so they couldn't be traced back to hip. and thousands people are evacuating louisiana 'cajun country this morning because of fares of flooding. the army corps of engineers may open a massive spillway to keep the mississippi river from flooding baton rouge and new orleans. the price for a gallon.
