ktvu channel 2 news at noon. >> this is ktvu channel 2 news at noon. >> good afternoon, we begin with our first look in decades inside napa state hospital. the hospital has been the scene of several violent attacks recently and has faced a lot of criticism over safety for staff and patients. we had the rare video for you new at noon. ktvu kraig debro joins us live from napa to let us know what it is like inside, craig. >> reporter: good afternoon, tori, in fact a group including our on john sasaki just got out of a tour. for the first time since ronald reagan as president cameras are allowed to record the inside of

the institution. that kind of experience you just saw is the exception and not the rule during today's tour but it is the kind of unpredictable situation workers and fellow patients encounter several times a day. the tour took us to different parts of the hospital. a worker we spoke with say we only got to see the best parts of the hospital. the other parts he says are not as neat and clean and the patients not nearly as se date. she called it a cover up but wants to hide her identity. >> the individuals were probably on best behavior and you come around during the time they are medicated. >> so they schedule it around the time people are just medicated. >> that is a medication patch. it is every day. >> there is assaults every day. >> there is practically assaults every day, patient on patient, patient on staff.

i have been threatened with murders, oh, she needs to die. that is not right. >> reporter: there was a homicide here, dirt stuffed in her mouth and robbed of two dollars and a pack of gum. she is a psychiatric technician at the hospital. her death and others have forced changes. they liftd a hiring freeze and the hospital made changes to the area where police found gross' body. >> that actually used to be a brick wall that was torn down and replaced with a more transparent. >> then i see progress, when i see the individuals taking their medications regularly, following their discharge plan, those are the ones that make us feel you know like we are doing our job. >> reporter: despite complaints peel with whom i spoke said they take pride in their job and hoping it can improve. again the hospital will have

had to help the driver get out of the car. he had been shot. it all happened last night in vallejo, a truck pulled beside them and a man inside started shooting. the two while hurt kept going, driving 4 more miles before stopping at this mcdonalds. >> right now it is unknown as to why they came to this location. the driver was starting to lose consciousness and at some point the passenger had to guide the vehicle to this location. >> once the victims got inside the mcdonalds the driver collapsed right here and that is when everyone inside this mcdonalds tried to help. the video shows people moving towards the door, we could see the manager on the phone and have learned multiple calls for help were made. the driver was airlifted to the hospital. at last check he was in stable condition. both victims are expected to be okay and the search for the shooter continues. >> the suspect vehicle was a light blue chevy pickup truck with an extra cab, suspect was described as a light skinned male with a black ponytail.

>> reporter: at the chp tow yard today they took a closer look at the car. the windows are gone and we could clearly see several bullet holes. at this point the chp says five shots at least were fired and while a lot of questions remain the chp says they do not believe this was random. claudine wong, ktvu channel 2 news. >> lawyers have posted 1 million dollars cash bail for dominique strauss-kahn, but the judge has still not yet signed off on his release from a new york city jail. defense lawyers and prosecutors are due back in court to discuss arrangements for the former head of the international monetary fund. when the 62-year-old is released he will be put under house arrest at an apartment in manhattan rented by his wife under the watch of armed guards. he faces charges he tried to rape a hotel maid. president obama met this morning with israel's prime minister benjamin netanyahu one day after the president said

israel should return to its 1967 borders to establish a palestinian state. the white house released this video just a little over an hour ago. he said they discussed a number of issues including the establishment of a palestinian state and acknowledged differences. >> but what we are in complete accord about is that a true peace can only occur if the ultimate resolution allows israel to defend itself against threats. >> benjamin netanyahu repeated his objection to the president's call for a return to the 1967 borders. >> while israel is prepared to make generous compromises for peace it cannot go back to the 1967 lines. because these lines are indefensible. >> he said palestinians will

have to choose between peace with israel and an alliance with hamas. u.s. attorney general eric holder is in san jose right now. a short time ago he toured the san jose job core and met with students to discuss the effects of gangs and violence in their communities. this story is brand new at noon and has been happening during just the past hour, jade hernandez joins us live to let us know how the meeting has went. >> reporter: this visit ran late. we just ran out here to give you the details. live at the san jose job core center. the students here are learning to put violence behind them. today they shared their stories with u.s. attorney general eric holder and the mayor. the attorney general picked six citys to visit. the list includes cities battling gang issues like san jose, detroit, boston, salinas and chicago. we spoke to the superintendent of the task force, considered a gold standard and one the attorney general homes to imlawsuit across the country,

they have worked with the national youth violence form and identified problem areas. he has been a proud advocate. >> we have gang problems. they don't go away. you can never turn your back on it. it is community based organizations that helps us deal with the kids. >> what i saw here today, the resources that have been dedicated, the approach that has been used i think will work in any city. this is a wonderful physical complex. >> reporter: the center offers hands on technical training for kids who have lived statistics. for example there are 100 gangs in san jose and 6000 gang members. five of this year's two -- 20 homicides were gang related. they met with several students here and janine de la vega will

san pablo bay. the boat ran aground and became stuck in the mud. the coast guard says the water is too shallow for one of its boats to respond but the fire department checked on the boater, who is apparently in good condition. the coast guard told him to simply wait until high tide hits at 430 4:30 this afternoon when the boat should float free. unemployment has dipped below 12% for the first time in a long time. it fell to 11.9% after the state added in00 jobs, 8900 jobs. some analysts were disappointed. california still has the second highest in the nation after nevada. scientists will meet in france next week to discuss the danger of cell phone radiation. the world health organization wants to determine whether

40 million people to get behind the wheel or about 100,000 less than last year. in walnut creek this morning gas prices were well over 4 dollars a gallon and people told us they will be driving but also expect to pay the price. >> they would rather fly probably, be easier, but going with a bunch of people so. >> i see, so you are not concerned about the gas prices or -- >> yeah, yeah, definitely but basically it sucks. >> according to aaa the decrease will be offset by an increase in air traveler. the number of air travelers will surge 12% from last year to almost 3 million people. some analysts believe gas prices may have peaked for the year and will held lower for the summer driving season. right now the bay area average is just under 4 dollars a gallon. while the national average is closer to 3.50. a big mess in marin is

going to end up costing 2.5 million dollars. back in december the ross valley sanitary district replaced a pipe after a sewage spill. now officials say that five month old pipe needs to be replaced again. the marin independent journal reports construction workers did not use enough flurry to close air gaps that could cause sinkholes or even complete failure. the overflowing mississippi river continues to cause devastation around the southern u.s., some hard work by homeowners appears to be paying off. take a look at these homes spared of flooding in yazoo city. some homeowners built their own levees ahead of the homes, as you can see they appear to be doing their job. the mississippi could remain above flood stage until june. a plan to close some parks is headed to the state senate.

yesterday they passed a bill to make it easier for non-profit organizations to operate state parks. 70 parks, including china camp are slated for closure during the next couple of years. it is a move that could save california 33 million dollars, highway 50 is tentatively set to re-open saturday, tomorrow, three days ahead of schedule. it has been closed since may 11th so crews can rebuild a roadside barrier, replacing a rockwall that had deteriorated, snow slowed the work but they have scheduled the re-opening for tomorrow. >> good afternoon to you. a live look at the east bay. pittsburgh in the distance, blue sky, what a gorgeous looking view here, low clouds have burned off. we still have along the immediate coast. you can see them right here as we move through the day. most of this will burn but we could see respied al low
