to clear the tree. police will block the road. let's go back to the desk. thank you, sal. >> new this morning, a 4-month- old infant girl reported missing in contra costa county over the weekend is safe and sound. ktvu's jade hernandez just spoke to a family friend about the little girl. jade, she's telling ut 4-month- old turn up in -- you the 4- month-old turned you -- turnup ed in southern california? >> reporter: that's right. she's safe and sound and headed back home. i want to show you the facebook page that was gathered for this little girl. "located safe." we know authorities were driving back here where baby was reported missing and they were still on the road around midnight. this is a picture of the baby, ramy amadea gallego. a friend toll us she wanted to speak to the baby's mother

because she told us the circumstances surrounding the baby's discovery. we know this -- 4-month-old a mother reported she put the little one down saturday night and eight hours later, the baby was gone from the crib. 20 minutes later after finding the baby gone, they called for help. she was not the only infant in the home. her siblings were home but they were not hurt. >> i was shocked and heartbroken. i feel like i'm in a bad dream. i just -- i cannot imagine waking up to nurse my baby and it not being there. >> reporter: now, that bad dream is over for the family. 4-month-old ramy amadea gallego has been found. we understand the 4-month-old should be home or on her way home right now from southern california. to give you an idea where this baby was reported missing, i want to brick you out live,

this home is located in a very rural area and, of course, you can see a lot of homes there. they are about a quarter of a mile part. this is all surrendered by farmland. as soon as we get more information from the contra costa county sheriff's office, we'll bring that information to you. back to you. 7:03. a search is underway for the car and driver that hit a 72- year-old man overnight in oakland. it happened just after 12:30 this morning on southbound interstate 880 near the fruitvale exist. the highway patrol says an unknown car hit the 7-year-old and left the scene. witnesses called officers, saying the man was crawling across the roadway. when then arrived at the scene, he was dead. his identity has not been relationed. 7:04. this morning an ex-con and a known gang member is in the los angeles county jail. police say his arrest marks the big break in the brutal beating

giants' fan bryan stow outside of documenter stadium seven weeks -- dodger stadium seven weeks ago. allie rasmus is back live from san francisco general hospital. >> reporter: well, dave, los angeles police say the tip that led to this arrest came from a parole agent. you will recall there was a $200,000 reward for information leading to the arrest. los angeles police tell us that that parole agent will not be getting that reward money. they say law enforcement agents are not eligible for it because it's considered part of their job to help track down suspects. meanwhile, the giants' fan, bryan stow, is still at general hospital in san francisco. he's still in critical condition. he's been unconscious for the past seven weeks since this happened. in the weeks that followed the beating outside the stadium, los angeles police pursued more than 650 tips. they clocked more than 6,000 hours of investigative work and yesterday morning police made an arrest in the case.

s.w.a.t. team members descended on this east hollywood apartment building and brought 31-year- old giovanni ramirez into custody. >> he said the words that i've ban waiting for for seven weeks -- i've been waiting for for seven weeks, he said we have bryan's assault suspect in custody. >> reporter: police say, again, it was ramirez's parole agent who recognized him from the sketch. police say several witnesses at the scene of the beating picked ramirez out of a photo lineup. police are not releasing his booking photo. so right now all we have to show you is his sketch. he's an ex-felon. he's being held on no bail. stow's family said they are incredibly relieved that the suspect is behind bars. the arrest was also welcomed news for some of the giants'

players and the team president. >> such it's a relief. what happened is still relee tragic and we have to remember that -- really tragic and we have to remember that. >> reporter: now, stow's family is expected to be here at san francisco general hospital to talk about some of those emotions and talk about their reaction to this arrest. they are holding a press conference here at 11:00 a.m. live in san francisco, allie rasmus, ktvu channel 2 news. >> thank you, allie. an overnight -- overnight, a prison riot at san quentin ended with at least four inmates rushed to the hospital. it started at 7:00 last night in the dining hall. guards say00 prisoners were involved. the guards used nonlethal bullets and pellet guns.

the cause of the riot is still under investigation. this morning, police in antioch are looking for suspects in a deadly shooting. it happened shortly before 8:00 last night on d street. investigators say they found the 19-year-old victim lying on the sidewalk. he was rushed to a local hospital where he died a short time later. it's still not clear what led up to shooting. but antioch police say they are following several strong leads. three sonoma county fires this month are triggering concern about indoor pot- growing operations and the hazards they present to firefighters. firefighters say they often don't know what to expect when they go inside. in one fire, a firefighter fell through a burned floor and almost fell into an illegal panel. other hazards include makeshift wiring system, barbed windows and doors, plastic sheeting on walls and even booby-traps.

police in southern england launched their helicopters and had tranquilizers standing by after getting reports a tiger loose in a field. it turned out, it was a toy. look at this. video from that police helicopter that was launched after several people called to say they saw a white tiger. once the helicopter schooled -- zoomed in with their cameras, they realized. it was just a -- realized, it was just a stuffed toy. it looks, real, though. police are still trying to find the owner of that tiger. >> maybe they noticed when it wasn't moving. >> right. all right. let's check in with sal. >> we have a couple things. i want to let you know the ferry has been cancelled, cancelled because of the damage here. the boarding barge was damaged somehow over the weekend. we're thinking, ul although there have been reports that

it's wind damage, but they cannot use it to -- use it to board the ferry. there's one person out there now, perhaps he's part of the ferry service but no one is getting ferry service from san francisco today. it's unclear when they will have the service back up again. bau that's the problem here. this barge, this floating barge was damaged. you can kind of see that -- that one of the pontoons there, one of the things is crooked. it looks like it's not quite right. you can see it's not quite straight. let's take another look at another problem on colton near mendoza drive. some power lines are down in the oakland hilling. you can see a cruiser has blocked this street here so people cannot drive through. if you drive in the area, it looks like this house may -- like this house may be without

good morning. we do have some mostly sunny skies. a few clouds around. but just too much of a westerly breeze. it will stay cool, 50, 60 and very low 70s. breaking news. the u.s. supreme court just upheld an order to cult california's prison population. the high court voted 5-4. they endorsed a court order requiring california to cut the prison population by thousands of inmate to improve healthcare for those who remain behind bars. now, the court said in that 5-4 decision, that the reduction is required by the constitution to correct any long-standing violations of inmate rights. justice anthony kennedy, who is a native of california, wrote the majority opinion, and he

also showed photos of severe overcrowding. the other four joined with the justice kennedy. at this hour, a new storm is rolling into the tornado- stricken area of joplin, missouri. earlier this morning, authorities there confirmed at least 89 people died in a tornado that touched down in the city yesterday. the twister was caught on home video, the fire chief says 25% to 30% of the city suffered damage including joplin high school and the city's main hospital. widespread primms are reported along are -- power outages are reported along with fire and gas los angeles. the death toll may go higher as search-and-rescue teams go door to door looking for people who may still be trapped. right now, president obama is visiting a little town in ireland where he has a family connection. this is -- these are some pictures of moneygall. there's the first lady,

and mayor reed has declared a fiscal state emergency. "the new york times" reports the move could give him the power to change benefits baggage -- packages. the mayor says if the city continues to fund pension as the current rate, there will be no money left for services. residents will have to rely on volunteer firefighter and police services. city council is expected to make the declaration tomorrow. 7:21. back here at home, california public schools may be able to restore money they plan to cut out of next year's budget. funding levels should stay the same as last year. that's according to a high school adviser. he tells the mercury news, school districts will have the money to hire back laid off employees if funding stays flat. but he's warning the school districts they shouldn't start

welcome back. a man who police are calling the primary aggressor in the attack on giants' fan bryan stow,well, he's now in a los angeles county jail. allie rasmus is at san francisco general hospital with more on the arrest and reaction to it. >> reporter: well, dave, this hospital where we're standing is where giants' fan bryan stow has been for the past week. he's still in critical condition. he's been unconscious for the last seven weeks since he was beaten outside of dodger stadium on march 31st. now, bryan stow sufficiented a

severe brain injury when he was attacked unprovoked after the game. in the weeks that follow, los angeles police followed up on 650 tips and put in 600 thundershowers of investigative work to find the people responsible and yesterday morning, outside dodger stadium, los angeles police announced they made an arrest in the case. the los angeles police chief seemed to be overcome with emotion when he talked about in break. >> and said the words i've been waiting for for seven weeks. he said we had bryan's assault suspect in custody. >> reporter: police latested 1- year-old giovanni ramirez. he's juan -- 31-year-old johannes mehserle. he's one 3 -- 31-year-old giovanni ramirez. he's one of three people wanted. police say several witnesses at the scene of the beating also picked ramirez out of a lineout. police are not releasing his booking photo. he's being held on $1 million

said they staged a 17-day hunger strike after they were stopped from getting letters. the mothers of the two men began their own hunger strike last thursday. the phone calms lased less than five minutes. the families of the two men say they sound reasonably well. police in antioch are looking for the public's help. they found a 27-year-old man floating in a lake at contra loma regional park late friday night. they immediately performed cpr but were unable to save him. he was visiting family members in the bay area. police still don't know how the man died and they are asking anyone in that area friday night to contact them right away. early yesterday on addison avenue, investigators say two young men attacked a victim after they stole his wallet. police say they later attacked down the two suspects riding in

a nearby hole. the victim was badly hurt but is expected to survive. seven people were rescued in tomales bay. they werened haved yesterday afternoon about 1:00. a sonoma county sheriff's helicopter brought them back safely to shore. a small craft advisory was in place. and authorities say the winds were pretty strong. swells were about as high as ten feet. vallejo's short-staffed fire department is about to get some new firefighters. but this won't be permanent. "the time hereld" reports the city will fire six firefighters next month but three of the jobs are being paid for by federal grants which means vallejo will only keep the positions for two years. this week, vallejo city officials will start talking about regulating medical marijuana dispensaries. about a dozen medical pot clubs

article about the financial collapse of the bakery. an illegal drug operation is probably responsible for a weekend explosion in livermore that seriously injured three people. now, this happened saturday afternoon inside an apartment there on silver oaks way. it blew out the windows, part of a porch, even left a huge hole in the roof there. investigators say evidence gathered from the scene is pointing to an illegal drug operation. all three victims are still in the hospital and are being treated for severe burns and other injuries. 7:38. san jose has launched a new mediation program to resolve disputes between residents and police officers. the "mercury news" rots dart dart reports that those police officers can tell exactly what they think. in the past, san jose's police force has been accused of being overly aggressive. >> the city's independent police auditor tells the paper

she hopes the mediation will improve the department's image. a high school class ring accidentally flushed down a toilet 72 years ago has mirror miraculously made its way back to its owner. a man doing minute ens near mt. shasta found the ring and chased it back to jessie mattos, who is now 90 years old and living in vallejo. mattos says he re-- recently suffered some setbacks and this has given him a boost. >> yeah. sal, have you a lot to talk about this moving. a lot going on. >> that's right. we're gonna be looking at video. i want to let you know that the alameda ferry service this morning is affected by some damage to the fir. this is the alameda pier video we just got.

the alameda -- a ferry boat operator noticed the damage when he tried to dock the boat. service may be out for several days, maybe up to two weeks because the parts need time to get here. i'm not sure what the people who rely on this service are going to do but they may not be boarding the service in alameda. what may happen, people will have to take buses to get into the city instead. let's go to a another picture. this is a live picture in oakland hills of some downed power lines on colton road near the mendoza drive. these power lines came down and also a tree came down -- came down. this house that the police officer is standing in front of has no power. the service lines are on the ground. apparently, pg&e has arrived on the scene and it looks -- it looks like some guy is getting through here. but for the most part you will see some blockage. let's go to bay bridge toll plaza. it'sbacked up.

not a good start to the week between worries about european debt and global growth. investors are finding a lot of reasons to sell. the dow has been down triple digits ever since the start of the opening bell. the dow is currently down 137 at 12,374. nasdaq is down 46 and s&p is down 15. the prices at the pump starting to go down just in time for the summer travel season. according to the lundberg survey, the national average dropped 9 cents this past week to 3.19. prices are still -- 3.91. prices are still higher in the bay area. right now oil is trading at $97 a barrel. airline and airport grills -- officials in britton are

weather. what it did for a time is stop the you screws looking for survivers. what amount of debris i can show -- i ke somehow -- i can show you. you have all of the scars piled on top of each other. one thing i can show you -- one thing i can show you, the amount of depth of destruction here. this tornado, traveled about six miles on ground. you can see this armageddon- like scene behind me. as you can -- as you see some of the lights flashing, there is are the emergency crews going through the debris. the latest death toll figure we have is 89 people killed by the force of this tornado but that number is anticipated to rise as the crews go through the debris. it was not the most strong category of tornado that came through here. it's estimated right now atin' an e firefighter-or 4. the difference between this one, it

with childhood obesity. this is gonna be the topic of his show tomorrow but he joins us live. >> good morning. it is a big debate. childhood obesity is mortgaging the future of this country. >> these are not only expensive lives to take care of but they are lost lives because they can't enjoy the long-term life. the big question is, is it child abuse or not? i will just say, if somebody was driving down 5 miles an hour and didn't have their seat belt on, and their child didn't have a seat belt on, is that child abuse? that's the fundamental we're talking about. >> we were just talking about the click it or ticket campaign. so when should the parents start to or wor -- start to worry? when should become a concern? >> well, if the child is having any problems, and those include

emotional problems. meaning if they are being teased, if they can't participate in daily activities, then they have too much weight on board. you can calculate the bmi, put the child's height and weight in there and it will tell you. if your body mass is more than 30. for example, an 8-year-old, you should be less than 100, 110 to be in that category. then you have too much weight on board. that's a problem because most of those children will turn out to be obese adults. >> and you are a heart surgeon. this is not just a vanity issue? >> no. i work with health core -- it's like the peace corps. we send kids to high schools around the country to he teach these high schoolers will about -- about their bodies. why did i do it? because as a heart surgeon, i bean gan -- began to operate on

25 years old. i can tell you tears's not much -- there's not much out there for them because they will have problems in the future. now we have 10, 12, 16-year-old kids who have high cholesterol, hypertension, diabetes. and that's why this big debate is on the show tomorrow. if the only person really has a -- an ability to make a major impact, the parents, they will never be able to fix the schools, we won't be able to get into the child's life in a way that's meaningful. i know it's hard for parents. i know it's difficult when you doesn't have a lot of money and it's hard to put the blame on the parents but there are states now that report the child's weight to the parents. because they are gonna start going after the parents. illinois is arguing that you should take the tax credit off because they argue you are not doing your job.

74% are women. altogether, 97% of the patients are usually treated and released. the patients who are actually admitted. they typically have migraines. there's also a new list out that shows san francisco as one of the healthiest cities in america. the american college of sports medicine released the new rankings this morning, minneapolis came in number one. but san francisco came in close, number 6. san jose came in at number 11. the unhealthiest city in the country is oklahoma city. several factors go into the ranking, including the residence who spoke, obesity rates and the availability of parks. well, yet, another nba player is in hot water this morning for allegedly using a home phobic slur during a game. joe keep noah admitted saying something last night in miami.

he didn't clarify what he said but the tv cameras appeared to so him -- to show him using a slur. noah apologized said he was just caught up in the moment. the nba has not made a statement about it but as you know, last month, los angeles lakers star kobe bryant was fined $100,000 for a similar incident. 8:53. -- 8:53. it's a growing hazard facing california firefighters. the threat they face this in more and more burning home -- homes. and the tiger scare. this one triggered, believe it or not, a massive response.

three sonoma county fires this month raising concerns about indoor pot-growing operations and the problems they cause for firefighters. firefighters say they never know what to expect when they get inside. one firefighter actually fell through a burning floor and almost landed on an illegal power panel. other hazards, include make- shift wiring system, barred up windows and doors, plastic sheeting on the walls. even some booby-traps. apple is making it easier to buy a new computer with the new version of its apple store app for the iphone and the ipad touch. application was upgraded over the weekend. they will allow you to custom configureure a new app on your
