"mornings on 2" begins right now. well, good morning to you. welcome to "mornings on 2." i'm dave clark. >> good morning. i'm tori campbell. it's tuesday, may 24th. we're following developing news in the search for a missing danville teen. just a short time ago, we learned that the search for 15- year-old allison bailess has moved to san francisco. her father tells ktvu that they discovered her bicycle in a parking lot norycy field this morning. family members tell us they went to the area after finding a note on allison's computer with directions to the area. allison's father says he's

asked for all available law enforcement resources to be brought in. >> we've asked for a helicopter. we've asked for water support and other than that, we're just hoping and praying that allison is alive. >> last night, in danville, police and volunteers went door to door handing out fliers with allison's picture. there is a "find alli ebayliss payable -- allie bayliss" facebook. search continues this morning for the two men who attacked and elderly man over the weekend in menlo park. kraig debro is live to tell us what happened and about two other incidents that might be related. kraig? >> reporter: yeah, this all happened on sunday. this is the block.

now, i just found out where the home was. i'm hopefully gonna speak to the man inside. here's what police say happened -- two men came to the house and there is a garage that's attached to the house. so in addition to that, there's a side door. they used that door. they used the kitchen door. they either broke down the kitchen door to get in there. once inside, the men told the victim he had a gun. one of the men hit the man over the head with a gun. they ransacked the house. police are not sure what they gout. two other incidents one took place on central. one took place on laurel. nobody got into the home in either of those instances, police cannot be sure if they are connect. one of the instances, they got

a vague description of what the men looked like. police are taking all of this information. >> we are communicating with other agencies in the area. we're trying to see if they have any other occurrences. our detectives are working tirelessly, as are our patrol officers. >> reporter: i talked to police, and they said the man was gonna be okay. sometimes when you are a little bit older and get hit on the head like that, you can have effects. they don't believe that will be the case here. now, the same thing happened in san mateo to a 90-year-old woman. police are gonna look to see if there is a connection to this crime and the crime in san mateo. we'll have more for you at

8:00. reporting live in menlo park, kraig debro, ktvu channel 2 news. >> thank you, kraig. 7:04. new this morning, san leandro firefighters rushed to fire in this trailer park this morning. you are looking at video from newschopper2. they were right over it. now, the fire crews got this call around 5:45. there was a smoky fire near blossom way. they had it under control just about 14 minutes later. that's when newschopper2 was flying over. still no word on what caused the fire. no injuries are reported. palo alto police investigating weekend vandalism as hate crimes. someone drew a swastika in the dirt of a car parked at the green meadow community center on parkside drive. it happened friday. the very next day, someone spray painted swastikas owned by the same person. they think the vandalism was

random, probably kids who didn't realize the severity of what they were are -- of what they were doing. the b.a.r.t. board is considering buying more tasers for the force. allie rasmus is live with more about how this is tied to the shooting of oscar grant. >> reporter: good morning. it's something that b.a.r.t. will have to consider at their meeting this afternoon, whether or not to spend $145,000 to buy additional tasers. now, the idea that each police officer should have his or her own taser, is something they are considering. oscar grant was fatally shot by b.a.r.t. police officer, johannes mehserle. now, in the trial that ensued after that, johannes mehserle said he was using his -- he thought he was using his taser, not his gun.

and after that it was recommended that b.a.r.t. use tasers more to avoid confusion here's the problem -- there's not enough taser. they have 60. they would need to buy 130 more so each officer would have his or her own. this is something that b.a.r.t. will consider at their meeting. we've tried to talk to b.a.r.t.'s spokesperson. we're still waiting. we'll have another update. back to you. >> thank you. a group of protesters after the sentencing of johannes mehserle plan to sue. a lawyer has filed claims against 32 police agencies. they were trying to control streets of oakland where crowds gathered after johannes mehserle was sentenced to two years in prison for shooting and killing the unarmed oscar

grant. protesters' lawyer says her clients were arrested and spent the night in jail without being charged. 152 people were arrested the night of johannes mehserle's shooting. more violent weather may hit joplin, missouri. at least 117 people now confirmed dead. the bad weather is still a challenge. two people were actually hit by lightning yesterday as they searched through rubble. so far 17 people have been bulled -- pummed alive. president obama in a news conference in london announced he will be in joplin, missouri on sunday. >> obviously, our thoughts and prayers are with the families who are suffering at this moment. and all we can -- all we can do is let them know that all of america cares deeply about them and that we are gonna do absolutely everything we can to

make sure that they recover. >> the president also says it's critical for people in affected areas to listen to the storm warnings. today, the national weather service reports a 45% chance of yet another tornado in the same area that includes dallas, oklahoma and yes, joplin, missouri. this morning president obama and the first lady received a royal welcome from queen elizabeth in london. coming up for you at 7:15. we'll have a live report from our washington, d.c. newsroom about what else is on the president's agenda during his three day days in london. a new lunch schedule is now in place at some bay area elementary schoolles. several schools around pleasanton and san ramon are now on the play first lunch schedule. that means students get their recess time on the playground before sitting down to eat their lunch. school officials say too many children why rushing through

lunch just to get out on the playground. billions of dollars of funding for the muni project could be at risk all because of contentious negotiations. the "chronicle" reports they want to hold the funding if they use the prop g in negotiations. prop g says arbitrators must consider how the contracts would affect fares and service. the union says that's illegal. a lawsuit over prop g is pending in state court. let's go to sal. what's the latest on that crash on 280, sal? >> well, they are towing away the last car. our newschopper2 has been watching it. you can see the chp is gonna be stopping the lanes here. one of those fast cars. several other cars involved. but the damage is done. the lanes were blocked for a time and as newschopper2 is

president obama and the first lady had a private meeting with the newlyweds and they talked with the british prime minister david cameron, the revolutions in the middle east and the world financial crisis. they will reportedly also announce a joint forum to threats to national security. the obamas return to buckingham palace tonight for a state dinner in their honor. they will spend two nights there. reporting live from alison burns -- from washington, d.c., alison burns. today, robert gates is to give his final speech today before he retires. he's been ordered by president obama to cut another $400 -- $400 billion in defense savings. he says to cut that much, the u.s. will have to significantly reduce their military power.

underway as we speak. the driver of the tour can bus that crashed on 80 between fairfield and vacaville said the brakes went out. thirteen people were taken to the hospital after the bus went off the highway and careened off a grass dirt berm off cherry road. yesterday, the bus came to a stop on a frontage road, 50 people were on board. the highway patrol says 13 people were taken to the hospital in fairfield with minor to moderate injuries. sal has newschopper2 and everything else helping you get to where you need to know. >> that's right. we're looking at highway 101 right near the san carlos airport here. newschopper2 live. you can see traffic is moving along well. that's northbound 101 on your right and southbound 101 coming down from san mateo in the hillsdale area on left.

tornado in joplin, missouri, making it the deadliest tornado in the, since the 1950s. our reporter, jim spellman, joining us live in joplin now where there's more bad weather and it's affecting search and rescue effort. jim -- search-and-rescue efforts. jim? >> reporter: that's rim they are trying to -- that's rightp they are trying to piece things together before the next storm comes back today. devastation in joplin, missouri. homes obliterated. cars piled up like toys. schools, hospitals and businesses battered. for those who survived a terrifying ordeal -- >> i was very scared. i thought me and my bad were going to be gone but we lived through that terrible tornado. >> reporter: residents of joplin picked through the

rubble of their destroyed homes on monday, trying to to salvage what they had rest -- left. >> it's indescribable. >> reporter: more than 40 agencies and hundreds of national guard members have responded to the call for help. president obama has ordered fema to provided re-- provide reserses. >> the american people are by your side. we're gonna stay there until every home is repaired, until every neighborhood is rebuilt, until every business is back on its feet. >> reporter: the top priority searching for victims who might still be trapped. by monday night, 17 people were found alive. >> we believe there's still rescues out there. we want to support the men andwy on ground out there literally searching for foots. >> reporter: rescuers were hampered by storms. more severe weather could be on the way. the national weather service says there's a chance of more

not want the public to see that photo. time now, 7:37. well, it's the latest controversy tied to the fatal shooting of b.a.r.t. passenger oscar grant. >> the b.a.r.t. board is considering buying more tasers for its police force. allie rasmus joining us live. she's in oakland. she has the details. >> reporter: right now, had b.a.r.t. police officers don't get their own tasers. take, for example, this officer that we saw pull up to this fruitvale station. he does have a taser. the officers aren't assigned their own tasers. they are -- they have to check them out on a daily and weekly basis. that could change depending upon what b.a.r.t.'s board directors decide later this week. this all goes back to something at the b.a.r.directors meeting. back in 2009, oscar grant was fatally shot by johannes mehserle. now, in the trial that followed

that shooting, johannes mehserle's defense was he thought he was firing his taser, not his gun. since then, b.a.r.t. has hired independent consultants and they've recommended that tasers need to be used more consistently to avoid confusion with potentially fatal consequences. later this week, the board of directors will decide whether to spend $145,000 for more tasers for b.a.r.t. police some say more tasers is a good thing. others say they are only worth it if it comes with additional training. >> that's important. if you are going to be handling anything like that, it's important to have more training. >> i agree with it. >> safe forethem to use -- safer for them to use tasers? >> yes. >> reporter: now, right now b.a.r.t.'s police force only has 0 tasers. officers must check out -- 60

gas prices, oil prices, rather, are up $99.50 a barrel. still some concerns about the european debt crisis. the dow is basically flat, up to 12,383. nasdaq down 4. s&p up 1.5. today yahoo! starts moving its $277 million -- 277 million e-mail users to its new format. they say overhaul will let users update facebook and twitter accounts while in yahoo! boxes. yahoo! has been testing the new format for nearly a year. it remains larger than g-mail but google's e-mail service has been growing and has more advertisers. fans of lady gaga are apparently too much for amazon.com. they offered her album "born this way" for 99 cents yesterday in a download only offer. that one-day sale sparked a

huge response bringing traffic on the site to a crawl and leaving some fans without the album. now, amazon says anyone who ordered the album yesterday will still be able to download it for the promotional price. and toyota wants owners and their cars to be friends on facebook. starting next year, owners of plug-in hybrids an electric cars will be able to chat with their cars through a facebook page. owners will be able to check on tire pressure or battery power or issue commends including telling the car to warm up the seats on a cold day. the system is still in the prototype phase while toyota works out some of the details and then it expects to expand it to other cars and other areas of the world. today, california university researchers will release what they've learned about spammers and how they might stop -- might be stopped. the scientists say more than half of all spam comes from one company. they also discovered 95% of all

i'm dave clark. >> it's tuesday, may 24th. well, police in menlo park are busy trying to figure out who is responsible for a violent home-invasion robbery. we just found out minutes ago the man attacked in the home, he's still in the hospital. kraig debro -- kraig debro just talked to police and neighbors on street where all of this happened. he's back now with the details. kraig? >> reporter: yeah, good morning, dave. we heard from neighbors that the man attacked on sunday is still in the hospital in the icu at stanford. we're standing in front of the home. it was on sunday here at the house that this all happened. police say people who broke in, they went through the side here, they opened the gate. there is a dear that leads from -- a door that leads to garage. once there, they went through the kitchen. according to police, almost nothing they know of has been takep. that has neighbors really baffled. >> there didn't seem to be really motive other than

park street say they are very worried this morning after two people attacked an elderly neighbor in a violent home- invasion robbery. kraig debro is live with what the neighbors are now doing in response to the attack. >> reporter: that very night the neighbors got together and started a neighborhood watch program. i i've just spoken to a couple of neighbors and they say the victim is recofferring and doing a lot better. he's in icu. it happened in this home on the 1000 block of windy mere. police say the thieves opened gate, walked past it. opened the garage door, kicked it in and got into the house. it happened around 5:15 on sunday morning. now, once inside the house they were almost immediately con fronted he boo the man who lives in the housel he's 88 years old. we know his identity. we're not gonna release it to you just yet. don't know what happened. but the victim was told to keep still, keep quiet. they ended up hitting him anyway. nobody seems to know why that

breaking news. four people have been found dead at a home in san diego. shortly after 6:30 this morning, it was home in the bay terraces area. firefighters apparently found the bodies of a man, woman and a girl in the swimming pool and another woman in a bathtub. he says all four appear to be drowning victims and were pronounced dead at the scene. police homicide detectives are at the location. no other details have been released at this time. once again, water bills are going up in marin county. last night the marin municipal water district approved a fifth consecutive year of rate hikes. the average water bill will rise nearly $4 starting in august. the agency says this latest increase is tie to several
