good morning. early morning accident leaves a pedestrian on life support. we have the details from san francisco. the police man saved my life. they made me come out the house. the quick actions of two police officers that helped save an east bay man from an overnight fire. the end of may mother nature thinks it's the end of march. looks like rain for some. we'll have the details.

good morning. thank you for waking up with us. it's wednesday, may 25th. i'm pam cook. before you plan what you wear today, let's check in with steve paulson. i'm hearing talk of rain. >> where did you hear that talk, pam? >> you. >> that's correct. some coming in from the north bay, san francisco, sure looks like that. south of that, more clouds. system pulling north, but plenty there. not a lot, but for this time of the year, will keep highs today only in the 60s. interstate 880 traffic is moving along through oakland. the commute is not affected by any difficulties getting up to the mcarthur major going to hayward. san francisco, northbound 101 traffic looks good coming to the 80 split. there is a problem on city streets in san francisco near

the corner of lombard and pierce. a pedestrian has been hit. >> reporter: that's right. the fire department is already here on scene. they were cleaning off the street. this is pierce and lombard. you can see here the eastbound lane has been blocked off, at least since the accident happened around 1:30 this morning. pictures were being taken here of the crime scene. we know the driver involved in this didn't has already been told to go home. san francisco police say the driver told them a man darted out into the street, leaving little time for him to react. the driver struck that man and immediately pulled over. officers say paramedics rushed the pedestrian to the hospital and we understand that pedestrian is on life support now. he will be donating his organs. the inspector told me drugs, alcohol and speed have been ruled out and the driver will not face charges at this point. police have had pierce blocked off since around 1:30 this

morning. you can see right now mears and -- pierce and lombard now open. san francisco fire department came to clean off the street. once they did that, police were able to open up pierce and lombard for thru traffic this morning. jade hernandez, ktvu channel 2 news. two oakland police officers being hailed as heros following their quick response to an overnight fire. it started at about 11:30 last night at an apartment near 38th and kerring ton. two police officers were in the area on an unrelated call. they smelled smoke and immediately rushed to the burning building. they banged on the doors to make sure the three name members -- family members got out safely. we spoke to one of the officers and one member of the family. >> the police saved me. the police man saved my life. they made me come out the house. >> just doing my job. that's what they pay me to do.

i love working in oakland. wouldn't work anywhere else. >> the fire has been traced to a faulty heater. the search for a missing teenager from danville will pick back up this morning. a team of law enforcement agencies spent yesterday combing areas around the golden gate bridge for any sign of allison bayliss. the search moved to san francisco after her bike was found locked up in the area. she was last seen monday morning standing outside her locker at her high school. flyers mentioned the discovery of a suicide note. family and friends have this message for her. >> ali, please come back. we all love you, we want you to come back home. >> a facebook page dedicated to finding her has more than 10,000 people. her classmates plan to wear blue again today to school in her honor. friends plan to gather for a

prayer vigil tonight, that will be held at the danville congregational church. it is scheduled to begin at 7:00 this evening. this morning the suspect in the bryan stow beating case is scheduled to appear in a police lineup. prosecutors are holding off though on filing formal charges. the lawyer for the suspect says his client was never at dodger stadium the day of the attack, and he says his client is willing to take a lie detector test to prove his innocence. meantime, the family of bryan stow is suing the los angeles dodgers, accusing the team of negligence. >> they got rid of heavy security, and of two-thirds of the security people. so now then what happens, then? if you have no security, people think they can do anything they please and you have things like this happening. >> the lawyer has been involved in several big trials,

including the case that inspired the film erin brockovich. they seek $30,000. the san ramon police officer at the center of a corruption investigation is out of a job this morning. it's reported that lombardi was let go from his position yesterday, but it's still not clear if he resigned or was fired. lombardi appeared in court last week, accused of selling drugs that he seized during raids. three others are accused of taking part in the scheme, including norman welch the former commander of the drug task force. at least nine people are dead after storms ripped through the midwest last night and early this morning. this is video from oklahoma city. five people were killed in oklahoma after a series of tornadoes swept through the state, but that number is expected to grow as people search through the rubble this morning. the severe weather also killed two people in arkansas and two

others in kansas. in joplin, missouri, rescue crews continue to look for survivors of sunday's deadly tornado. one man who was trapped beneath the rubble was rescued after managing to send a text message to a friend. >> yeah, it's my friend. i just got a message from him. >> the death toll there is now 124 and more than 1500 people are still listed as missing. the national weather service is categorizing the tornado as an ef 5 making it the 8th deadliest tornado on record. more bad weather is on the way, including the chance of more tornadoes. it's 4:37. let's check in on traffic here in the bay area. good morning, sal. >> traffic is doing pretty well for the most part. we have spots, but for the most part we are off to a nice start

on northbound and -- on westbound, i should say, 80 heading to the mcarthur with no major issues driving to the maze. traffic continues to look good coming into the bay bridge toll plaza. traffic is moving well coming onto the bridge. lower deck, that construction is being moved away. but you will see some lanes blocked on the lower deck of the bay bridge. i want to mention in santa rosa -- first of all, northbound 280 traffic is moving well getting up to highway 17. santa rosa clearing an accident that's been there for a while, northbound 101 at todd road. we'll keep an eye on that. 4:38. let's go to steve. thank you. system sweeps in through the north bay. most of the peninsula, east bay south, more clouds than anything left. lifting to the north.

it's starting to sweep in, lake port, clear lake. but it still has a ways to go. we're on the southern edge of this. for this time of year, the fact that a cold front is on its way is impressive. upper 40s, low 50s for some. about 53 degrees oakland. a lot of upper 40s. due to the cloud cover don't think we'll cool off much more. system will sweep in and keep us cool today, with lies in the six -- highs in the 60s. cloudy, rain to the north, low amounts to the south. the winds already cranking up and very cool highs. upper 60s and too much in the way of cloud cover. 50s and 60s. cloudy skies, rain farther north you go, better likelihood of measurable amounts. south of that, more clouds than anything else. windy thursday. maybe a break friday, but everything looks like it will stay below average on temps. the sharks are heading home, following their heart breaking elimination from the nhl playoffs.

during the morning hours, mainly north bay. about san francisco, oakland, north. south of that, clouds and cool temperatures. 700 flights expected to be canceled today because of the volcano in iceland. right now airports in germany are closed and no planes can take off or land. but flights could resume tomorrow. we checked in with san francisco international airport and so far, only one flight from dubai experienced delays. happening now, president obama and british prime minister david cameron are just about to begin a joint press conference in london. want to take you there live this morning outside where you can see people gathered, waiting for that press conference to begin. president obama and prime minister cameron met for about three hours already this morning. the two men are discussing military operations in

expected way but instead broke in two different directions and the second quake is what actually triggered the tsunami. now researchers are trying to figure out if that could happen in other quake zones. the efa will say the announcement is about fuel economy and directly affects the bay area. that event will take place at the headquarters in palo alto. we now know how they'll implement a new area code in south bay. the 669 is being introduced because 408 is running out of numbers. they're approving the so-called overlay message for the switch. that means any new phone numbers will be assigned that new area code. the new 669 area code is expected today bow in october

-- expected to debut in october of next year. two space shuttles are doing best impression of handyman. we'll take you out to space so you can take a little peak at their work in space this morning. they are installing cables to provide more power to the russian side of the international space station. so also hooking up an attachment to the station's robotic arm. this is the third space walk of the mission, one more is scheduled before endeavor heads for home for its final time. we want to take you up there live to get a look at the work that's going on. it is scheduled to return to earth one week from today. nasa is declaring one of the space traveler dead. scientist hope it would be able to revive itself after hyper nateing through the martian

window. its next objective is a martian crater. coming up on 5:00, back over to check in on more earthly maneuvers here. >> thank you, pam. traffic is moving along pretty well along the bay area. if you are driving to san francisco northbound 101, that traffic looks good approaching the 80 split. there are no construction problems on the lower deck. they've picked that up. traffic is smooth on the upper deck as well on the toll plaza all the way into the city. northbound 101 they're clearing a collision there. someone was trapped inside a vehicle for a while and traffic is going to be a little bit slow approaching todd road but the rest of the commute is light. >> cold front moving in, yes, yes, yes cold front moving in. now for many of us today won't be much, it will be ail show.

maybe points north, the wind, though, will be there 20 to 40 miles per hour and the highs very cool, 56 to 68 degrees. the system is right there. most of this will be from about northern napa county north it's going to give more rain. we're on the southern edge of the system, starting to moisten up a little bit. if you're getting rain you can always tweak me. so far i can't find any measurable amounts. upper 40s, low 50s. one system moves in, cold air behind this system, now a lot of this is tracking due east. this is forecast model showing the rain. see how it starts to follow apart. this is light system, might be
