noon. good afternoon. topping our news, a knew development announced moments ago in the case of a missing teenager from danville. the search for allison bayliss was focused near golden gate bridge since her bicycle was found there yesterday. claudine wong joins us live from san francisco with the sad update. claudine? >> reporter: well, tori, this press conference wrapped up just a few minutes ago, the media stood around and volunteers that came to try to help search today, tears came in many people's eyes as the chp delivered delivered this news. >> we have information that came to us, in our search and rescue efforts yesterday, that indicates that allison walked down on the golden gate bridge shortly after 10:00 a.m. monday morning. it does not appear she walked off the golden gate bridge. >> reporter: the chp says what they believe happened is that

allison indeed take her bike on b.a.r.t. you can see her in this picture, coming off the train out of the station. they believe she rode her bike her, left her bike at crissy field, walked onto the bridge and they believe that she jumped off the bridge and they are considering this a suicide, moving this investigation from a search to a recovery. that news obviously very, very difficult for people to hear this morning. the family was toll this morning in a meeting -- told this morning in a meeting in danville and then the searchers that came today, the volunteers, they were obviously devastated, they said they hoped to come here just to find some way to help. >> gut-wrenching, my heart goes out to the family. it's certainly discouraging. we're gonna keep up our hope and do whatever we can for family to help them out, whether it's finding her or whatever we can to do support them. >> reporter: i did ask the chp

their best advice to the people who want to help, and the chp says their best advice is to go home. back live here at the golden gate bridge, we weren't able to confirm whether it was eyewitnesses or cameras that gave the chp and investigators this evidence but they say they are confident that she did not come off the bridge on monday morning. they do have cameras obviously on either side and they said there was normal traffic that day. they will have marine boats in the water searching for allison bayliss hoping to find her but they say in some cases, they never find people who jump off the bridge. again, they believe that is what happened. so at this point, they will break everything down -- they will continue their investigation, they extended -- they extended their thanks to everyone who came out to help. certainly, everybody was hoping for a better conclusion, but the heartbreaking news, they

are switching from a search to a recovery and they are considering allison bayliss's disappearance a suicide. back to you. >> thank you. today is national missing children's day and to mark the occasion, child watch of north america is joining a technology company in the release of an iphone app called "may day." this is to help a missing child or a family member. the app is free and valleys being developed for the android and smart phones. earlier today, police reported that a man hit by a car is in serious condition. they did report that he didded -- died but now they are saying his injuries are life- threatening. the driver of the car that hit him told police he did not see the man before the collision. investigators say drugs, alcohol and speeding have been

ruled out. the intersection reopened to traffic around 4:30 this morning. a multi-vehicle accident in richmond sent two people to the hospital and caused a major backup on eastbound 580. the accident between a big rig and three other vehicles happened between 9:00 a.m., it took about two hours to clear the scene. the lanes were back open just after 11:00. the highway patrol says the victims suffered major injuries. an unusual late weather system has brought some rain to the bay area today. you are looking live now outside. as you can see, it's looking dreary. i'm thinking that's the north bay, possibly the 101 there with some low clouds and maybe some rain. and earlier today, our "mornings on 2" live crew was in santa rosa, the umbrellas were up and the windshield wipers were going. so how long will it stick around? mark tamayo will be around in about ten minutes with the

forecast. two oakland police officers are being called heroes following their quick response to a fire in the fruitvale district. >> the fire started at 11:30 last night at an apartment near 38th avenue and carrington. the two officers were in the area on an unrelated call. they smelled smoke and immediately rushed to the burning building. they banged on doors to make sure all of the residents got out safely. ktvu news spoke to one of the officers and one very grateful resident. >> the police saved my life. >> i am just doing what they pay me to do. i love it here in oakland. i wouldn't work anywhere else. >> the investigators have traced the fire to a faulty heater. the family dog -- the family dog died. scholarship funds have been set up, in honor of two

students who were shot and killed. shooter killed himself. the two business students would have graduated this saturday and will be given their degrees posthumously. donations for the fund will be accepted. we have a link to this at our weeks, ktvu.com. the man accused of beating bryan stow is scheduled to be part of a lineup at 6:00 tonight at the los angeles county jail. police say giovanni ramirez resembles this sketch based on witness descriptions as one of the man who attacked stow. ramirez has mott been charged but is jailed on a no-bail parole. ramirez stays he has witness who say he was at home and not the ballpark. the series of storms have killed at least 135 people. >> it's a half-mile wide,

killer tornado -- >> this video was taken yesterday of a tornado near oklahoma city. it was one several twisters that tore through oklahoma, kansas and arkansas and killed at least 13 people. that's in addition to 122 people killed by the tornado in joplin, missouri on sunday. the oklahoma governor says she has never seen so many tornadoes in a row. >> i've been in office 20 years. i've been through a lot of these natural disasters. but i've never seen this many in a short period of time. >> the national weather service upgraded the rating of the joplin tornado to an e-f-5 -- ef-5. there are still 1500 people missing. right now the joplin tornado is classified as the eighth deadliest single tornado on record. a menlo park search team is prepared to join the rescue in missouri if they get the call. >> every hour that goes by, the

fleet week kicks off in new york today. the event opened with a parade of nine ships on the hudson river and a military flyover. the u.s. secretary's office says there are not as many vessels participating because

hide his mistress. reel hunter worked as a video yographer on his campaign. the giant oil company is hosting their annual shareholders meeting there today and they want chevron to take responsibility for what they say chevron has cause with their oil drilling and explorations. on monday, protesters hung from the san rafael bridge with a banner targeting chpka chevron. the epa has been promising an announcement. we have no details, except it will directly affect the bay area. officials say that's why they are holding the meeting at tesla motorcycles in northern california. it's reported that california will gain 236,000 new jobs under tougher fuel standards. that's because those stricter

rules will put more hybrids and rules on california roads. drivers around the bay area may be looking twice when they pull into bay area gas stations. normally the price goes up as we head 23450 the unofficial start of the -- start of the summer gas season. this year, prices are down. many analysts say prices will continue to slip for the next few weeks. more than -- more than half of all american drivers say they will not buy an electric vehicle no matter how high gas prices go. a new gallup poll shows 57% of the people asked say a pure electric car is not practical for them. the only mainstream pure electric car now on sale is the nissan leaf and nissan says the poll is good news because it means more than 40% are considering electric vehicles. and be careful on the roadways for said -- for today. rain showers are coming down. here's a look right now at the

live stormtracker2. you -- you can see the coverage. this system moved into the north bay. santa rosa a bit a break where we do have partly cloudy skies. santa rosa, .3 of an inch. i can see napa and fairfield as well. as we move to the south, you can see the rain showers moving into southern marin and also into oakland and san francisco. in fact, in the east bay, there's that yellow cell just outside of alameda, indicating some moderate rainfall and the south bay, not a lot to report just yet but some coverage out here in fremont but san jose at last check reporting mostly cloudy skies. a look outside right now, we can show you and taking a look out in san francisco, we have gloomy conditions, even a few raindrops hit the lens. at least the -- the rain showers, are at least a big factor in our forecast in the short-term. we'll have some breaks in the afternoon and evening hours. but still unsettled. tomorrow, some morning clouds

and skies p.m.ing partly cloudy. the weekend, cool and breezy. no major warmups in sight. temperatures warming up -- cool office as we head into saturday. you can see the 50s in santa rosa. concord, 58. a few low 60s for livermore and also san jose. here is a look at the system itself on the satellite. you can see the front moving in. it will be a factor for the next two or three hours. we'll have to watch this guy later on, especially up in the north bay. this could strig -- tricker more showers. but the bulk of the activity, at least the thunderstorm activity, that's up in mendocino and lake county. san francisco and oakland to the north, periods of rain for the south bay. a chance of a shower as the system basically falls apart. not a lot of coverage here to show you on the cloud and rainfall forecast model but still a few clouds out there. you will notice temperatures, we'll get to the five-day in a almost bit. but still clouds as we head into your thursday afternoon. a slight chance of a shower as we do head tomorrow morning

into the afternoon hours. here is a look ahead for the five-day forecast -- you will notice it -- partly cloudy skies on tuesday. its this afternoon, basically in the upper 50s to lower 60s. there's the slight chance on friday and then for the weekend, tori, no major warmups in site, with a sun/cloud mix. temperatures will be lucky to make it in the upper 70s. and a winter weather advisory is in place and they could pick up 4 inches of snow. our winter wants to continue here in northern california. we're edging closer to what should be summer. >> okay. thank you, mark. they are called e-legs and they are giving flu hope to people who are paralyzed from the waist down. santa clara valley medical center has been testing the wearable robotic devices. they are battery powered and have artificial intelligence that helps the devices do the walking for the patients. >> it's incredible.

stocks rising rather modestly today after days of telling -- selling produced a technical rebound. right now, the dow is currently up 75. knack up 23, at -- nasdaq up 23, at 2769. google announced this morning it is expanding its investment in wind-powered

electrical generation. the mountain-view based internet giant plans to put $55 million into the alta wind energy system in southern california's mountains. last year, google bought a $39 million stake in two south dakota wind farms. one of the astronauts who spent hours on the spacewalk this morning almost had to go back inside early. he was installing power cables when his eye began to sting. he was able to rub it and the stinging eventually stopped but it could have been a real emergency if his eye continued to water, sings, without gravity, the tears don't go anywhere and could have fogged up his face helmet. there's one spacewalk left in this mission before "endeavour" and the crew return to earth next week. nasa is giving up hope on one of its mechanical marvels. the mars rover -- rover named "spirit" has not sent back any signals in more than two years. scientists think the bitter cold destroyed the electronics.
