>> thank you, sal. we have developing news. let's go to jade hernandez. >> reporter: good morning. one neighbor told us hearing gunshots is nothing new. he explained to us what he heard. >> i heard a couple of shots, five shots. and then the ambulance came. >> reporter: investigators don't know if this is gang- relate but they are looking into whether the victim was targeted or whether he was involved in gang activity. we can tell you at this hour, someone reported hearing shots fired before 11:00 last night in east san jose. an officer was flagged down for help. when police arrived, they found a man bleeding in the street with gunshot wounds. the man was taken to the hospital. police are not saying whether the shooting victim lived in the neighborhood or was visiting. >> we don't know if it was gang- related but we're going to look

contains towed venom, an arsenic. the woman bought the drug from a holistic center and became ill. police say a a husband and wife are suspected of taking their own lives and killing their daughters. the bodies were found in a backyard swimming pool. the mother was found in the bathtub. police will only say couple was facing financial difficulties. 7:05. a central california chemistry teacher facing child endangerment charges for allegedly helping her students inhale chloroform. police arrested her on monday. she's accused of lep -- of helping three male students

inhale chloroform on at least five occasion over the last few months. chloroform can make you feel high but large doses can cause you to pass out or die. a verdict has been reached in the bay area man suspected in a killing spree last year. you i may remember this man. he was connected -- you may remember this man. he was connected to the deaths of a father, son, two women from vallejo, and a third woman. valdemoro's girlfriend. police shot and killed him during a high-speed chase. now the jurors issued a verdict and they found that he died at the hands of another by accident. we reported earlier this week that coffee prices are climbing. now it's hitting the biggest coffee chain in the world. kraig debro is live from oakland to talk about what is driving up the prices and people's reaction. good morning, kraig. >> reporter: good morning,

tori. typically, we come to this gas station here about the prices. but this time we're asking people about the price of coffee, that as the price of gas per gallon is down 12 cents from two weeks ago. the price coffee is going up. starbucks announced a 17% increase of packaged coffee, foalinger, and also dunkin did you knits, their -- dunkin' donuts, up 38 cents since may. the labor department says a pound ground coffee -- kochfy rose 3 -- coffee rose 37%. and recently, gas prices have actually decreased. the price of gas is determined by the world market by a barrel

gasoline. so a barrel -- a barrel of oil is about $100 today. the price of coffee is determined by a world market measurement. m october of 2010, it was 90- point 57 per pound -- 90.57 per pound. >> people have to have their coffee in the morning, regardless of the price. >> that's latest price for april. if you check the world market price for coffee today, it's 120 cents per pound. now -- so starbucks's ceo says the people driving up the gas prices are the same people driving up the cost of coffee. spec laters, he says speculators have gotten into the market as well and they are driving up the price. the market watchers say it's the bad weather and demand drivingping the price. reporting live from oakland, kraig debro, ktvu channel 2

news. >> all right, kraig. thank you. sal, you have your hands full this morning. >> that's right. we've had b.a.r.t. delays. they are still there but the trends are operating through san francisco. there were some people who are saying their train was delayed for a long type because they were coming into san francisco right when they shut down service at powell street station because the person fell on the tracks. no serious injuries but the train service was stopped for a while. now all trains are running. less go out to the -- let's go tout -- let's go to out to the bay bridge toll plaza. westbound coming into san francisco. no major problems getting into the city. northbound 880, the traffic is looking good here in oakland. if you are driving this morning onto the b.a.r.t. system again -- not driving, taking b.a.r.t. i think i said driving onto the b.a.r.t. system. if you are taking b.a.r.t., there are delays coming in to and out of san francisco because of earlier problems.

here's steve. what is that big yellow ball in the -- in the sky? it's the sun! temperatures, cool this morning. i just talked to a friend of mine, cordelia, down to 44. at napa in the low 40s. for this time of year, temperatures are no doubt about it, cool. i don't really expect much of a change here as we go forward. low clouds, fog, sunny. clear, cool, 40s, 50s to low 50s. by noon a lot sunshine. i think you'll have to deal with more clouds. 50s, low 60s and mid- to upper 60s and then we'll go mostly sunny. that late breeze seems like a given. near 70 for some. near 60s around the bay and then upper 50s, low 60s by the coast. temperatures are below average. the severe weather up there in the sacramento county, butte county, that system produced

working with. this is a monumental task. yesterday, unfortunately, there were no new rescue made. the total rescued alive, 19. one of the emphasis today is to match you the 1500 or so missing with their loved ones and try to find out their status later today. this morning we expect the governor so release a list of all of those missing people that should help coordinate those efforts, the state taking over that initiative from the local authorities here to try to connect those people with their loved ones. this is -- people are coming back to this mile after mile after mile of this wreckage. and they don't know where some of their loved ones. nobody thinks 1500 people are dead or caught in the wreckage. we know they may be in shelters, hospitals, they may have left the area. so they are gonna try to do that today so the people here can find some way to get some sort of closure and move on with their life. back to you. >> all right, jim spellman live for us in joplin, missouri. thank you. right now, president obama is meeting with world leaders.

7:23. astronomers say they've identified the most distant explosion ever detected. they say it happened at thevy edge of the observe -- at the very edge of the observableuneny verse and that's -- universe. they say the blast glowed as brightly as a million, million suns. so it was easy to spot. they first noticed the blast with the help of a nasa satellite in april of 2009 but have only finished compiling their findings. we know there are more women than men but men are closing the gap. new 2010 census figures just came out today, show the number of men in the u.s. has increased over the last ten years. that's mostly due to better healthcare. in the year two, women outnumbered men by 5.3 million.

here on the san mateo bridge heading out to the high rise with no major problems. the morning commute looks better at the bay bridge toll plaza than it normally does. it's about a five-minute delay at the pay gates. let's go to steve. according to the tweets and the e-mails, some of you are getting cranky with this weather. unless you are in the north bay, then it's partly sunny and i'm seeing the cloud cover skirting the north bay. but south of that it's sunny. temperatures still on the cool side, mid-40s this morning after yesterday's -- i mean, for the end of may, that was a big system. the associated low has triggered the severe weather. see how things are dropping out of the northwest. that's why i can't go sunny. vy to go mostly cloudy. it will be slightly warmer today, though. upper 60s, very low 70s. still a far car from average or close to being above. it looks like this pattern will continue into the weekend.

your sometime know, 7:9. we're following developing news from san francisco. ktvu's claudine wong is now at the scene of an accident, one that's causing b.a.r.t. delays. what's going on, claudine? >> reporter: well, the delays are getting better. we're at the powell street station. this is where the problem happened just below you, below ground. you can see there is an elevator that takes people out here. -- out of here. and we saw the ambulance take the person involved in this away. not sure of that person's condition at this hour, but we are told that there was a -- there were serious injuries. we heard this all started as a medical injury that led to the

bruno pipeline disaster. more than 60 lawsuits have been filed against pg&e for last september's pipeline explosion. eight people were killed. 38 homes were destroyed. today, both lawyers will meet with the judge about the legal proceedings. a teenager is shot and killed in oakland, a week shy of garage wakes. police are trying to determine why. this is 17-year-old detane franklin junior. they found his body on olive and richie streets. they say he was shot while riding his bike home from school. those who know him say he was not the stereotyped teenager. >> to me, he went to basketball, went to school, got

good grades and took care of his brothers. >> he was also an office aide. the graduation is being dedicated to him and other students who have lost their lives to violence. the l.a. police department released this mugshot. this is giovanni ramirez. they released this last night. they released this last night after -- after the police lineup and now they plan to take this to the district attorney to consider formal charges. attorneys for suspect's family will be busy to intend to prove police had the wrong man. they claim ramirez's 10-year- old daughter will tell police her dad was with her the day of the attack and never went through dodger stadium. >> i went through every detail that day with his daughter and

increased 38% over the last two months. now, in the past year, rising coffee prices have gone faster than gas prices. the he -- the labor department says a cap of ground coffee went up 40%, that's about a $2 increase. a gallon of gas rose about 37% in the last year. and recently gas prices have decreased. the price gas is determined by the world market price of a barrel of crude oil which today is a little more than $100. the price of coffee is determined by a world market measurement of cents per pound just last year, last fall, 90.57 yets per pound and april, last month, 1.21. >> people have to have their coffee in the morning. you know, regardless of the price, you know. >> reporter: that was the april price, 1 1.09.

declined. the ashes are breaking you. they are expecting all of the air traffic to return to normal within next 24 hours. a child found dead in oklahoma has raised the death toll from tornadoes in the past two days to 16. about a dozen states in the midwest remain under tornado warnings and watches right now. a news helicopter captured this swifter from shaunie, oklahoma on tuesday. you can see the tornado slam into a semitruck, ripping it apart. amazingly, the driver survived. some 1500 people are still unaccounted for in joplin, missouri after sunday's deadly tornado there. that number could change later this morning, though, when officials release an updated list of the policing. 125 people were confirmed killed in that tornado and this morning, the search continues for survivers. now, the midwest is not only place debting --ing tornadoes. an area in northern california also experienced them. this is video of a twister to

welcome back. pg&e has a new plan to change the rates that it charges customers and in just a couple of hours state regulators will take a close look at that plan. claudine wong is live to tell us what customers should look out for. >> reporter: well, the meeting actually starts in about 30 minutes at the california public utility commission. we're told the vote on this proposed rate hike could take place within the next hour or so. pg&e is proposing to raise rates and the cpcu has to prove that. we do know how they will likely

vote and that's because we have this 4-page proposed decision let's tell you what is on the table this morning. pg&e wants to raise the rates of low usage customers. it. whats to put a flat rate charge on all pg&e bills. let's take loo the -- about the first part. low usage customers and low income customers have historically been protected. what that meant, higher usage and higher income folks have to had shoulder the burden of rising rates. the decision seems to agree with pg&e when it talks about the despairty between what two groups pay is too wide. so they would like to even everything out. energy saving programs are still in place. this deals specifically with the base rate on your bill. people we talked to this morning had mixed reaction. it's just fancy words for the company to give to us. either way officials we get --

department. we're taking our robbery unit, and we're collapsing those together. and then we're peeling off some of the other officers and moving them down the patrol. we're trying to put more officers in black and white cars. >> it's interesting. you bring up that separating the homicide, the assault, the robbery unit. it seems like in any profession, when you get to specialized. you would be able to do a better job. combining those might hurt the police force and the cases? >> i don't see it's gonna hurt us. i think we're shifting resources to do a better job. reality is, as police departments, municipalities throughout the stay get thinner. we have to become more jenalists. we have to do a better job and i think the mainstay of the police organization is patrol. we're a gonna have to give the patrol as much as we can and kind of wean out in places that

for the u.s. military to leave that country by the end of the year. the demonstrations are in the capital city of baghdad. they come as iraqi leaders consider asking u.s. troops to extend their stay. under an agreement, troops would be required to leave iraq by december 31st but the widespread instability has iraqi -- iraqi leaders considering the deadline. the number of troops in pakistan will be reduced after a request by pakistani government. this follows the raid that killed osama bin laden earlier this month. a pentagon spokesman says the pakistani government is annoyed the raid was done without their knowledge. right now there are 200 american military personnel, training pakistani forces in pakistan. back here at hole, investigators say the drowning death last week of a florida man at an antioch lake was directly tied to the highly publicized prediction that the world would end.

this is just in. in a ruling this morning the supreme court gave has and other states more authority to take action against illegal immigrants and the countrys that hire them. the court upheld an arizona law that takes away the business licenses of employers who knowingly hire illegal workers. the court's decision did not deal with a more controversial arizona law passed last year that gave police more authority to stop and question those who are suspected of being in the states illegally. and we have an update to a story we've been following in missouri there are now 232 people still unaccounted for four days after a deadly tornado ripped through joplin. officials had previously said they believed 1500 people were missing. they say many of those were probably safe but had failed to get in touch with friends and
