the shadows is anyone's guess. >> there's no guarantee i can work together. because laws might change. there's always a threat that you might get found. >> reporter: adrian is not his real name. and you will not see his face because like 12 million others in the u.s. he is here illegally. adrian says he walked across a mexican border with his mother when he was five, that was 21 years ago. he now owns a small business in san jose and says he does not hire undocumented workers. >> i am afraid, because that's something that jeopardizes, the cleanliness of owner a business, i want to keep it as cleanly as possible. >> reporter: today the u.s. supreme court in a 5-3 decision upheld an arizona law that revokes the business licenses of companies employed undocumented immigrants. how they're going to sustain their state by punishing, penalizing these companies.

>> reporter: the arizona law also requires employers to use a federal electronic system to validate workers. using a data base, e verify. >> it's easy for them to verify who is documented and who is not documented. >> states are fed up, people are fed up and people are trying to take fixing the immigration system into their own hands and it's not the way to do it. >> reporter: employers retalked to tonight say they are not worried about today's supreme court ruling because they doubt that the law would ever pass in california. live in san jose, lloyd lacuesta, ktvu channel 2 news. more details now, a ktvu field poll taken last year shows california was split for support for arizona's most recent and controversial law.

49% said they support it. 45% opposed it. the federal program uses fingerprints to check the immigration status of people picked up by police. the idea is to screen suspects for citizenship and deport immigrants. the bill now goes to the state senate. there is new fall out tonight from the san francisco police scandal. we have received word that more cases will be dropped today. jeff adachi's office says 26 cases are expected to be dropped. the public defender has shown videos that show illegal searches. more than 80 cases have been dropped or dismissed. the police department says it

is investigating the allegations against its officers. the b.a.r.t. has approved getting tasers for all of its officers. amber lee is here with the concept and the cost. >> reporter: former mehserle said it was confusion between his gun and taser that led to the shooting of unarmed the áf oscar grant. now b.a.r.t. is buying tasers for all its officers. >> i think the police have a right to protect themselves, but i hope they can do that in a way it's not going to hurt anybody else. passengers told us what happened on new years day is still fresh on their minds.

following the incident, former b.a.r.t. officer mehserle said he thought he was pulling his taser gun. today the board approved spending up to $455,000 to buy 30 tasers before the ends of next month. >> get training in ethical decision making, surrounding use of force. >> reporter: but some passengers told us even with more training they still question officers ability to use tasers wisely. >> in training, you are safe. but when it's conflict situation, is that training really good enough? >> reporter: b.a.r.t. says currently it is up to the individual officer if they want to be armed with a taser. but under the new law, all officers will be required to

carry a taser gun. we learned about a critical repair project set to begin this weekend. what needs to be done and the delays expected. that story at 10:30. a new policy is expected to start. starting next week agents will no longer be responsible for screening the electronic ankle bracelets. instead, the companies responsible for those leg bracelets will report. pg & e electricity rates are going down for some of its most powerful users and up for those who use less. the revised rates are expected

to go into effect at the end of next month. a judge in san mateo county has decided to consolidate hundreds of lawsuits. the same judge will handle all 74 cases at a hearing later on this summer. the judge also says that lawsuits brought against pg & e by shareholders will have to wait until the lawsuits filed by victims are resolved. one man is dead, and five others are injured tonight after a roll over accident in la handa in san mateo county. it happened this morning on the mondego hill area a few miles from alpine road. news chopper number two was live a the scene. a total of seven workers were in the truck. most were riding in the back and spraying nonnative weeds when the pickup rolled over. they had to leave their vehicles and travel 2 miles --

it's what conservationists and caltrans were hoping for. >> it's fascinating it's not in the wild. it's at the dunbarton bridge in the bay area. >> reporter: the chicks will stay in the nest for 30 days. it'll the team of biologists that will get to name these chicks. but they did ask me for my opinion, and i can tell you that frank and julie are in the front running now. the change will allow for the old lanes to be removed in the new westbound lanes. it's all part of the new eastern span. we spoke can caltrans today and learned that it will take place overnight saturday into sunday. however the exact timing and reopening are not set. there's an app for the iphone and i pad that allows people to see the changes taking place on the bridge.

users get a virtual view of the modifications taking place this weekend. san francisco is one of the launch cities for the new google wallet smart phone app unveiled today. the android app will let people use their phone to pay for items. but there's a catch when it launches, google wallet will only be available for the nexus 4gs phone. mitt romney sent word he will make a big announcement next week. romney will appear at a farm thursday in new hampshire the first state to hold presidential primarilies. romney has already raised millions of the dollars and hired campaign staff. with only hours to go, congress passed an extension of parts of the patriot act before

the los angeles police chief today remained adamant his officers arrested the man responsible for attacking giant fan bryan stow. >> giovanni ramirez is and has been our main suspect in the

bryan stow beating. the prosecutors office is about to get the case. los angeles police did not discuss comments by ramirez attorney that he is innocent and has an alibi. a reward still stands to find the other suspects in the case. and reporters have already found some of the people on the missing person's list. some survivors said they simply haven't been able to reach their families. new images from google earth shows how severe the damage is. this air images show joplin high school before the tornado and two days after as you watch the screen wipe across like that. this ef5 tornado is joplin is one of the deadliest on record

to antonio torrez sits on the same lawn he took care of for this woman. she says torrez had a 14-year- old son. >> antonio didn't deserve this. he was a good person. that's all i've done, try to make sense of what's going on. >> reporter: investigators released a series of surveillance videos today. one shows four men running. police call these men persons of interest who know what happened to torrez. >> when he was approached by four male blacks, i believe that some type of argument insued and i believe this victim was robbed. i believe these persons of interest if they were involved they saw what happened. -- if they weren't involved they know what happened. >> reporter: last year oakland

more new video this time from oakland where a station wagon crashed through a fence and nearly crash into the front door of a house. it happened at the intersection of 81st avenue and b street at about 6:45 tonight during a police chase. officers say the driver of the a wagon is a wanted man.

he was caught and suffered minor injuries. officers wouldn't tell us what he's wanted for. a second man, a passenger in the car took off running and is still on the loose tonight. new information this evening about a shooting that took the life of a high school senior in oakland. police tell ktvu news 17-year- old detained franklin jr. may have been targeted. franklin was riding his bike home from castle man house yesterday when he was shot in broad daylight. >> if you don't share with us who took the job of a mr. franklin who was a good kid coming from a leadership academy, then who's going to be next? >> you're so hot right now, you can't go nowhere. somebody is going the turn you in. >> reporter: just last week and a block away, police responded to a call of shots fired. franklin was questioned and let go. police believe someone may have tried to kill franklin then.

the marin town of ross held a special meeting to get to the bottom of a missing schoolhouse. missing because it was torn down seemingly in secret. debra villalon with a who done it. >> reporter: this time, instead of preserving history, destroyed it. one person's treasure, another's junk. the schoolhouse was donated to ross. a local family paid to move it from their yard to the town common. >> their grandmother came from a small town with a temple school. >> reporter: now that family is

slamming the town after learning the 100-year-old school was carted to a landfill a year ago. no one noticed because at the same time these school bungalows went up and blocked the view. the historical society as shocked as anyone that the tiny school was sent away in splinters. >> it was something they did with nobody knowing that they did it. so it must have happened very quickly. >> set building at one point in time became an orphan. nobody cared about it. >> reporter: today this special meeting was trying to figure out what happened to it. >> it had reached the point where it had been totally ignored and it faded into the background and one day it went away and it took four years for anybody to notice it was gone. >> reporter: but critics say the bigger issue, why weren't citizens involved in the decision. >> my wife came down and said,
