firefighter killed in the line of duty. ktvu kraig debro is in the neighborhood where it all happened with the new audio recordings and what they reveal about the frantic fire fight. good morning. >> reporter: good morning, pam. many of us because of what happened yesterday reminded there may not be a routine call. police are holding the scene together. what they want to do is seal up the scene as they investigate the cause. they fire and conditions that lead up to the death of a veteran san francisco firefighter. 48-year-old vincent perez dies yesterday inside the home rather at the hospital. he received his injuries inside the home. the cause of death is officially not determined but you can say perez died on the job trying to protect others. the 21 year vet is among 30 firefighters that responded to the call of the house fire yesterday morning around 10:45.

a woman and her children were inside the home but they got out and were not hurt. perez and two other firefighters were on the first floor and were caught in a flash over. perez died later at the hospital. >> he served violently in the san francisco fire department for 21 years. he was a classmate of mine. bestarted out together on april 2nd, 1990. born and raised in frank. a very proud san franciscan. >> the world has lost am great man. a great firefighter. >> the news of perez's death only rocks the san francisco fire department but the police department as well. there is no word when there will be am memorial service for him. checking websites across the country. word has reached many firefighter websites across the nation. other firefighters thinking about and hearing about what happened as well. coming up later you will hear

some of the first responder calls and we're going to talk more about what caused the flash over inside the home. reporting live inside the home kraig debro. >> the family of the firefighter critically injured is holding vigil by his bedside this morning. 53-year-old anthony valerio is at san francisco general hospital. rescue crews found him unconscious inside the home. family members tell us valerio is not breathing on his own. his brother describes the scene in the hospital room. >> it's not for the weak minded weak stomach. it looked pretty good. scrapes. you can see burns a little bit of burns on his face. and he's all bandaged up. >> also in san francisco general yesterday firefighters formed procession for their colleague killed in that fire. 48-year-old lieutenant vincent

perez his body was escorted from the hospital to the medical examiners office. now we have continuing coverage of the deadly fire and investigation on our website ktvu.com. there is also an opportunity to offer your condolences. just look for the bay area news tab. we have an update on a story we first brought to you as developing news last night. a man who shots at oakland police is now under arrest. police tracked him down just after midnight. that's where the man shot at officers earlier in the evening. it's just after 8:00 when the man fired on officers as they tried to approach him. an officer returned fire but no one was hit. a suspect ran from the scene but was found four hours later. a big announcement is expected today about the ongoing investigation into a police corruption case in contra costa county.

four men have been implicated including the former head of the drug enforcement tamanoir ma welch. they are accused of steal and selling drugs. they will announce a major development in the case this afternoon. we're also learning the horrifying details of jaycee dugard 18 years of captivity. dugard said she was walking to a school bus stop near her south lake tahoe home when a man show now knows of phillip garrido grabbed her and zapped her with a stun gun. he grabbed her and put her in a car and drove off laughing. >> there are some specific details that are horrendously graphic and i think in the courts description was that

it's pornographic. >> dugard says he was raped at least once a week until she gave birth to phillip garrido's two daughters. and she described the backyard prison. she says she never once tried to run away in the 18 years because she was afraid of phillip's explosive temper and feared he would pull out his stun gun again or send his dogs in to attack her. the judge released those transcripts. phillip garrido will spend the rest of his life in prison. his wife nancy will likely have the same. jaycee dugard was not in the eluder are doe courthouse but she had her mother read her emotional statement. her angry words were directed mostly at phillip garrido. she said quote i hated every second of every day of 18 years because of you and the sexual

perversion you forced on me. economists are expecting disappointing numbers in the may jobs report to be released in a short time. some estimate fewer than 150,000 jobs were added last month. that would be a sharp drop from the 230,000 jobs added in the three previous months. the jobs report for may is due out at 5:30 this morning. let's check in with sal for a look at traffic. good morning, sal. >> good morning, pam. traffic is doing well around the bay area. we can show you that the east shore freeway is looking good. the morning commute is moving along nicely getting out to the mccarthur maze. and if you are driving to san jose or to 280 or 101 that traffic is off to a nice start. let's go to steve. thank you, sir. our much advertised system is beginning to inch closer.

increasing clouds today. it looks cloudy along the coast and the north bay. but this system is on its way and it's going to give us rain on the weekend. i've seen projections of moderate to heavy rain. increasing clouds today. rain along the coast is possible later. but not until you know much later. but for the week off and on rain heavy at times. especially along the coast especially in the santa cruz mountains. two plus inches of rain is not out of the question. some 40s again. 46 seems popular. santa rosa, napa, livermore is in there. here it comes our system is developing offshore. there in lies the key. it will develop offshore and sit there the entire weekend. eventually it will move. it doesn't have much to bump it along. the timing will be later than

helping ground crews because of the rough terrain. that fire has burned 160 acres and 50% contained. former serbian general refused to enter pleas to what he calls alabama noxious charges. i want to show you new video of moe latish in the netherlands. he told the judge he was defending his people and his country during the beaux neon war. the general is accused of atrocities in the war that claimed 100,000 lives. next hearing is scheduled for july 4th. another hack attack targeting sony. the information stolen and the point the hackers are trying to make. a man believed to be dead for more than 20 years is now in police custody. the reason he faked his death in the face place. we'll tell you more about the morning commute and the bay weather.

michelle lee. she vanished one week ago after leaving the hospital in hayward. it will be hole on pond rosa park. investigators say they have several persons in interest in the case including one former friend. today the man who pleaded guilty to murdering a woman attending yale university will be sentenced. anny le was strangled. a man nominated for a medal from the san francisco police department for taking down a gunman during a fatal nightclub shootout has been fired. it was february of 2010 when patrol special officer rob burns shot one of two officers. a 19-year-old man was killed and three others were hurt.

on wednesday the police commission voted to revoke burns badge for refusing to follow several rules including wearing the correct uniform. the only medical marijuana dispensary at east palo alto is fighting to stay in business. they went before the east palo alto city council to make its case on why it should remain open. east palo alto has also ordered the collective to shut down. but the city code is too vague of what should and shouldn't be a business. >> you have to make the determination up front and saying this is what we mean. this is what we mean by charitable organizations this is what we mean by drugstore and moving forward you can point to that and say that's why you can't be here. because it says right there you can't be here. >> medical marijuana sales are still illegal under federal

laws. state lawmakers will have to go without a paycheck if they do not pass a balanced budget by june 15th. john congress says he will stop paying lawmakers salaries. voters passed prop 25 that requires lawmakers to forfeit their salaries if the budget deadline is not met. in the past lawmakers wouldn't wouldn't be paid if a budget was late but they would later be reimbursed. it bars them from ever receiving that back pay. former massachusetts governor mitt romney entered the presidential race by attacking the man who's job he wants to take. >> we have more than slogans and promises to judge him by. barack obama has failed america. >> romney announced his run for the 2012 republican nomination. ease considered the front

runner -- he's considered the front runner. this is his second attempt. he lost out to john john mccain in 2008. john edwards could be charged today to keep his mistress in hiding. a source with knowledge of the investigation says there are also still talks of a plea deal. prosecutors say the hundreds of thousands of dollars that two edwards donors gave to help keep his mistress in hiding should have been reported pubically. he says the funds were gifts in order to keep the secret from his late wife elizabeth. italian auto maker plans to buy out the government stake in chrysler. president obama is expected to announce the deal when he visits the chrysler plant in ohio later on today. they almost also pay $70

million to buy chrysler shares. that will give fiat a majority stake. chrysler has claimed they have hit another group of sony. it pulls off what it calls an elementary attack to highlight the disgraceful security. the group posted names, pass words, dates, and dates of birth, phone numbers and home addresses of sony customers and some of them have been confirmed as genuine. sony pictures says it's look into the hackers claim. sony just restored its play station network after an april hack attack. a suspected criminal who faked his own death more than 20 years ago has been arrested here in california. this is robert. this is a picture of him now. police say in 19 -- there he is now. police say in 1987 he severely beat a woman in her scottsdale, arizona home. but when he was about to be

francisco giants catcher buster posey's season is now getting death threats. scott cousins agent says major league baseball has been notified of the threats. the news comes as giants general manager criticized cousins play in a radio interview. if i never hear from cousins again or never plays another game in the big league i think we will all be happy. posey under with surgery to repair three torn ligaments in his ankle. the garages are all owned by the city and the city council will take up that rate increase at its june 15th meeting. prices could go up as much as 33% and free weekend parking would be eliminated. downtown businesses are opposing the idea. they say it will drive away customers just as the city says it wants to encourage people to
