well, good morning to you. welcome to "mornings on 2." i'm dave clark. >> good morning. i'm tori campbell. it's tuesday, june 7th. from missing to murdered. tara moriarty is live with why the case of nursing student michelle le is now being called a homicide. tara? >> reporter: well, hayward police say they have found forensic evidence inside of le's car. they've also pored over surveillance tapes from the parking garage here at kaiser permanente hospital and this is where they believe michelle le was murdered, inside this garage. now, le's family walked out of police headquarters with heavy hearts after being told she was killed. she was last seen may 27th after finishing her duties at the hop. the next day, her -- at the hospital. the next day, her honda was

found. even though they believe le was killed, they will not stop looking for her. >> we're not gonna cut back on resources. we will continue our search of warts for -- search efforts. >> reporter: our family, friends and family were hopeful. they held a vigil, passed out t- shirts with michelle's name on the front and the reward is now $65,000. yesterday, investigators collected more evidence from an apartment. police have interviewed more than 25 people. they do have a hotline set up in case you haveny information regarding le's disappearance. that number is on the bottom portion of your screen. right now, police say they are going to focus their search of efforts in the -- search efforts in the rural areas of the east bay to look for her body. back to you. >> thank you, tara.

7:02. in butte county, north of sacramento, a family from oroville is mourning the loss of two brothers and their father. it was a horrible accident that happened over the weekend. their pontiac firebird tumbled down a 100-foot cliff right into the feather river on saturday. 16-year-old cody was at the wheel when he lost control. all three drowned in the passing waters. the young man is being remembered for trying to save his brother and father before he drowned. the family said "he always tried to make things right." 7:03. san carlos city council members are welcoming a former mayor back to the council chamber after the death of omar last month. they chose brad lewis. he served from 2005 to 2009.

but he decided not to run for a second term. he's now an executive at pixar animated studios. he says he has a lot of enthusiasm to jump back in. he will serve the remainder of omar's term. anthony wiener says he will fully cooperate with an ethics investigation filed against him. coming up at 7:15. we'll have a live report from washington, d.c. with how weiner's democrats are reactingact -- are reacting to this. eric rasmussen is in hercules to explain more about the election that's full of controversy. >> reporter: dave, there's been plenty of it, even one of the

without anything missing. the south unified school district has a problem with upcoming graduation ceremonies. about 30 students have been invited to attend even though they have yet to require the credits. some say this is wrong and there will be a meeting at 7:00 to discuss this issue. workers have been locked out of their jobs at wood lawn since the owner proposed a lockout. now -- now, the cuts would lower some of the employees' pay to $15 an hour. 7:07. we want to check in, once again, with sal. see what's happening on the

roads. sal, are you putting your hand up? >> i have all of my gadgets and they can be a little loud. i have to turn them down. >> traffic is busy if you are driving around the bay bridge toll plaza. you can see traffic is going to be delayed for about 10 minutes getting into san francisco before you get onto the bridge. let's move along and look at the -- the san mateo bridge. traffic is moderately heavy on the way out to the peninsula. and if you are driving westbound, traffic is going to be slowing down. there was a crash on westbound 80 at karlson boulevard. minor injuries there. you will see some slow traffic as a result of that. 7:08. let's go to steve. thank you. we do have a lot of low clouds around. there are breaks in the clouds. unless i'm missing something, most of the marin coast and about three-quarters of the sonoma coast are fog-free.

0 on the coast, it's solid. we are getting sunbreaks inland. as you probably imagined, the coolest high temperatures through june 1st and the 5th, records coming in, the numbers, i'm sure they will continue to follow. santa rosa, redwood city and san jose, already their coolest june 1st through 5th ever. temperatures have been stuck in the 60s. also we had a lot of record rainfall amounts over the weekend as well. today a little bit more like june which is morning low clouds and fog, then it will be sunny. temperatures will warm up. there is still a westerly breeze or component. we can't get that warm. more of the same tomorrow. the weekend looks significantly better than we had last weekend. there will be light and morning fog. kind of the band plays on here as far as this a temperature goes. it's been this way for about four or five weeks now. i don't really see much of a change. slightly warmer inland.

there's plenty of low clouds. the west wind or south wind, san jose had a wind at 8. same for santa rosa. a lot of moisture in the air. the humidity is up. 5, san rafael. 58 in hayward. a mild morning for many. no rain in sight. already we'll see the sun translate into warmer inland temperatures. 50s, 60s and 70s. it's been an extremely cool pattern. we are showing a little bit of signs of kind of leveling out here. slightly warmer inland, maybe you can see some slower -- see some lower 80s. new york investigators are searching for more bodies today. this is the case of the serial killer there. they've already found 10 cents of human remains in a remote

part of long island. based on recent aerial foe tote -- photos. they are gonna search the robert moses causeway today. that connects long island to another small island. they think a serial killer may be responsible for at least the deaths of -- for the deaths of at least four prostitutes and may have left other victims along that -- along that remote parkway. the european e. coli outbreak is still spreading. the latest case in this very dangerous strain. the warriors' surprise pick for the new coach who has never coached in the nba before.

afghanistan, libya, the world economy and the peace process. tonight, she will be presented with the presidential medal of freedom during the dinner there tonight. the government added $5.3 trillion in financial obligations last year. that was largely for retirement programs suched a medicare and social security. the paper says that brings the total of responsibilities, not paid for of $66.6 trillion. the white house says that austan goolsbee, the long-time adviser to president obama will resign as the head of the council of economic advisers this summer. he will go back to his hold job at the chicago graduate school of business in the fall. reportedly, he's become pretty frustrated with the politics of policy making in washington. about half of the troops

have been trained that will allow gays to serve openly. so far, military leaders say they've been surprised by the lack of resistance during the four months of training. the law was passed last year but the pentagon said they needed time to train the troops. it's expected that all american troops will have finished this training by the end of august. well, also ahead, we're talking about agricultural training for afghan-bound marines. they are learning farming practices. we're talking about a university farm in california's crop abundant central valley. marines are going out into the fields out there, and they are learning how to tend to pomegranate knit trees. some of the train -- promny grant knit tree -- pomegranate

trees. at the start of the e. coli outbreak, germany blamed cue come birs from spain and then the german officials admitted they were wrong and then they blamed anker gannic farm in northern germany. but then tufts from the farm have come back negative. a ka todayian man has that country's first suspected case of e. coli. researchers in germany still have not been able to positively identify the source of the e. coli outbreak that's killed 22 people and sickened more than 2300 hours. the canadian man had traveled to germany recently. he does not appear to have a severe case as hand -- and has been released from the hospital. today, european union agricultural officials are holding meeting. some of amsterdam's pot coffee shops are reportedly starting to close their doors

to tourists. it's part of an effort announced by the dutch government last year to crack down on drug tourism. under the policy such citizens will have to show i.d. to buy marijuana at coffee shops. the netherland's policy on marijuana has made amsterdam a popular destination. some worry the new rules will hurt tourism. a judge in southern california has ruled the city of dana point cannot block access to strand beach. now, the city tried to block beach access near a city apartment in the orange county city but the judge ruled there was not enough evidence to support it was necessary. now dana point will need a permit from the california coastal permission that this wants to limit access. a debate is growing in san francisco over the size of an afford an housing project for at-risk teenagers and young adults. an expanded version of the plan calls for a 50-point building

today, 5 to 78. even warmer on wednesday. that seven-day would be probably far away from us. it will be warmer. thursday looks to be the warmert day with near 80 inland. i think we'll ease up a little bit on the weekend. but it will still be dry and fog -- and fog will increase. 52 to 58 here. 52 fairfield. 52 santa rosa. 50 san rafael. a little low. did see it spinning in the atmosphere. that kind of keeps some of that low clouds in check. most of the sonoma coast and marin coast look to be fog- free. but they have a lot of low clouds. there are a few breaks in the crowds -- clouds. 50, os, north and about bay. upper -- 50, 60s, north and the bay. even though it will be okay on the weekend, it will be slightly cooler. the search for suspects in a bay area stabbing, police say the victim was only trying to

>> reporter: after about four years -- and almost 100 public meeting on this issue, steve young was one of the ones who came out to support this  project that's been years, years in the making. now, steve young probably wasn't needed last night. that's because the city down voted 8-0 to approve this project. but this morning, we talked to a lot of people here and they said they were surprised at the outcome but they were pleasantly surprised. this was a $5 billion project. it will be spent on a huge

project. this is an animation project. the proposal is a reality, $ $1.3 million big. steve young even showed up to -- to urge the council to vote yes. talks have dragged on for four years in 97 public hearings. we're getting reaction and one man we stopped at random happened to be the chief of orthopedic surgery. he says the number of surgeons has doubled the past couple of years. >> we need start of the art equipment and the new fault with proside -- and the new university will provide that. >> they have a great program

here for commuting. >> reporter: so the university gets its expansion but what the city of palo alto held out for and got was $174 million for community projects. a lot of that money will be used for different things. at the low of it will be used to subsidize caltrain passes and $22 million in housing projects. that means some of the people who don't live here won't have to drive here. and then some will get a subsidy so they can live closer to where they work and that will cut down on the commute as well. kraig debro, ktvu channel 2 news. 7:32. two teenagers are in the hospital after an early-morning crash. this was the scene around 2:30 this morning on 66th avenue in oakland. police say a 15-year-old and 17- year-old were in the gray sedan. they were traveling at a high rate of speed when they crashed

into a driveway and ended up underneath a parked pickup truck. both boys were taken to highland hospital. the crash is still under investigation. an autopsy is now complete but sunnyvale police are still trying to find out -- identify the body of a garbage bag found in the bushes on sunday. police say the body of a latino woman was inside but she had no identification on her. she was fully clothed and had blunt-force trauma to the head. 7:33. police in pittsburg search everything for three man linked to the stabbing of a good samaritan. it happened on hare ber street on friday night. the investigators say the woman was attacked while trying to help. the attackers are reportly in their late teens to early 20s. of them described as african-

american -- two of them described as african-american, about 5'1"0. east bay regional parks say if you have any information, call them right away. there have been five reported thefts of catalytic converters. they were stolen from four toyota 4 runners and one toyota tacoma. it all happened on the south side of the city. coit tower will turn red to honor two fallen san francisco firefighters. in fact, the tower will glow red every night in memory of lieutenant vincent perez. both died fighting last thursday's house fire. coit tower was built to honor san francisco. a memorial is growing at engine company 26. here is a live look as we knee

-- as we see just some of the posters, the let, the flowers that have been delivered. people are traveling there to pay their respect to vincent perez and anthony vallejo. there are their firefighting hats. officials say they've receive hundreds the cards from across the country. investigators suspect a flashover, when everything that suddenly nights, is responsible for the deaths of the two men. a family who lives at the home said sparks from an electric outlet ignited a fire and that the staed the -- and that started the fire. a vigil will be held at st. mary's cathedral and a joint funeral service will be held at the same church at 12:30. the men will be laid to rest in kolma. we've been telling but a 3- month-old baby boy shot and

killed. police say it seems like a horrible case of mistaken identity. pam cook is in the newsroom to explain the details. well, two teenagers are now he behind bars this morning, in connection with the natal -- with the fightal -- with the fatal shooting of that baby boy in east palo alto. police say the weekend killing was a case of mistaken identity. investigators describe the two teenagers opening fire on the family in their car and they say they thought the young couple of was involved in a gang fight. the baby's mother said she tried to shield the children from her bullets. >> they destroy my family they kill my baby, and they killed part of my soul, too. >> a 17-year-old was arrested on suspicion of murder. police arrested him on sunday at a house about a block away

been in. warmer inland temperatures are on the way. they are on the way. not screaming warm or anything. but at least they will be warmer. 58 to 78. a lot of 74, 75. i mean since i forecast all the way out to va ka ville. temperatures, though, we will see some 80s. finally -- plenty of low clouds and fog. the entire visible satellite is not in yet but some of it is and yes, that's correct on the sonoma and marin coast. most of it is fog-free. there are some breaks in the clouds, more towards the north bay and east bay than yesterday. it was socked in yesterday and sold out. peninsula/south bay dealing with more clouds. 50s on the temperatures. right there, just that little

i heard you compare yourself to derek jeter, which is my favorite player. i know your sons are very, very good baseball players. >> they are. >> how are you at short stop? >> i'm terrible. i'm not comparing him as an athlete. he was very kind to me at the all-star game last year. he came over and he said to me, you know, there are a lot of phony legends but you are a true legend. i think the comparison is that we both stayed in the same place for all of these years and we never compromised ourselves. we valued our profession. we were true to our profession. we didn't disgrace our profession. we were loyal to the team we worked for and the yankees and cnn and we always gave our best. so in that way, i would compare myself to him. certainly, not as an athlete. and certainly, not in the area of marriage. i've had a few. he's had done -- none. but just the kind of person he's been in had his -- in his

san francisco supervisors are expected to vote today on a redevelopment plan that would transform treasure island. san francisco mayor ed lee talked about the proposed project in today's "examiner." he says the project will create jobs, affordable housing and be a financial boost to the city's planning figures -- commission. critics say this will cause too much traffic often the bridge. today apple developers will have a chance to match witz with the real es expert. this is -- with the real experts. there's steve jobs. today's highlights include a chance to challenge the best engineering minds in apple, in their world. if you are answering -- answering questions about apple's history, trivia and facts as well. tonight, the apple design awards will be handed out

stocks opened higher. right now, the dow is up 80 at 12 s 170. nasdaq is up 17. s&p is up 9. it is 7:53. the walt disney company is cutting about 200 jobs from its film studio staff. the move comes as global dvd sales are slowing. the majority of the cuts are expected to come from the home entertainment division. dvds were once hollywood's biggest revenue driver. but dvds and blue ray disk sales fell 20% last year. a bit of surprising news about bay area gas prices this week. the latest survey by the auto club shows pump prices are lower here than some parts of

the midwest. california gas prices are about 25 cents a gallon higher than anywhere except hawaii. the weather knight in arizona gave the crews battling wives a bit of the break but the winds will probably pick up today. people in the resort town of greer evacuated as the winds picked up. more people are on standby ready to get out. about 238,000 acres have burned. authorities think an unattended campfire started it all. about 2500 firefighters are starting to contain this fire and another fire stott south. now, firefighters back here in california expect to have a wildfire in kern county fully contained at some point today. about 150 acres have burned
