good morning. welcome to mornings on 2. it's saturday, june 11th. temperatures feel pretty mild somewhat does the weekend weather look like? let's check in with rosemary. good morning! >> good morning to you! mild is definitely a good word for you it. maybe not warm enough for the beach, but not so bad. we're going to be slightly cooler this afternoon than yesterday, fog will remain on the coast. and our highs today upper 50s for the coastline. 70s for inland areas. waking up cooler this morning, we'll look at your current conditions and the weekend coming up. happening right now, the detectives are on the scene of another homicide in san jose it. is the city's 24th of the year. ali rasmus has been talking to people. what are you hearing so far this morning? >> reporter: mike, first of all i want to set the scene. we're on the 400 block of nerdy avenue. police been here since 3:00 this morning after the shooting happened. right now you can see officers

out here in the middle of the street, and from the orange crime scene tape here you can tell that this street is closed off to traffic and it has been for the last several hours. there are still a lot of unanswered questions. police have very limited information for us at this point. but what we do know is that around 2:45 this morning, neighbors contacted police saying they had heard gunfire. when police and paramedics arrived, they found a man in his 20s in the street, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. by the time paramedics arrived, the man had stop breathing and was pronounced dead. police tell us they don't know the motive for the shooting. they don't know if there was a party or gathering happening at the home at the time of the shooting. and they don't know if this was a gang-related shooting. but san jose police accounts this is the city's 24th homicide of the year and that's compared to last year, in 2010 the city had a total of 20 homicides through the entire year. so already in the first half of 2011, they've surpassed that

number. and some of the neighbors we talked to say they are worried about this increase in crime. >> it's a concern, for my little one. i have little ones, i have teenagers. so it's actually a concern. >> police do not have a suspect for this shooting in custody. all they know is one or possibly several suspects were reported to have fled the scene after the shooting. police don't yet have a suspect description for us to put out to the public yet. police are in the process of talking to witnesses. in the past hour we've seen some police officers talking to and taking notes as they conduct interviews with some of the people that have been out here. we've seen them talk to about a dozen people out here on the street. we'll continue to keep an eye on the situation and try to bring you more information half an hour from now. hayward police searching for the driver of a car that hit a teenage girl and then

drove off last night. the family of 17-year-old lisa maclin says she was walking with friends on soto street around 9:00 last night when she was hit by a car. she was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. police say the car was white, possibly a toyota corolla or a volkswagen jetta. police and the girl's family are asking anyone with information about this incident to please contact hayward police. two fallen san francisco firefighters were remembered as heroes during a funeral service that drew thousands of people from the bay area and beyond. lieutenant vincent perez and anthony valerio worked out of station 26, they were side by side on june 2 when they were overwhelmed by flames inside a burning home and diamond heights. bagpipes were played as the firefighters caskets arrived outside the cathedral yesterday. there was a salute from a sea of uniformed comrades who came from all over the country.

inside, elected officials, family, if colleagues packed in to say thank you. 48-year-old vincent perez was a san francisco native, former marine and deputy sheriff, as well as a classic car lover. 53-year-old anthony valerio was described as a free spirit who called himself the people's paramedic. >> vincent and tony were our gentleness and strength. together, they stood that brought us together here for this service. >> at the end of the service, san francisco's fire chief and mayor presented each a firefighters helmet and badge to his family and a final alarm was then sounded. while san francisco firefighters said good-bye, firefighters from other bay area cities stepped in to answer emergency calls. one of their first came around 7 a.m., after a fire broke out at a church in the ingleside

neighborhood. neighbors were grateful for the help. firefighters were not the only ones who assisted. private ambulance companies also volunteered, so san francisco fire emt's could attend the services as well. the procession that followed the funeral service took the firefighters from cathedral hill to holy cross cemetery. two fire engines carrying the caskets made their way through city streets, onlookers lined the look to pay their respects. one person waved an american flag. police shut down part of interstate 280 for the procession. that caused some delays on highway 101 and city streets, but people say though understood. >> i'm happy to see all the firemen here paying respect to two firemen who lost their lives. >> the procession affected 30 muni lines and bus detours that caused some confusion. traffic officers were out in yellow vests to help guide drivers and pedestrians. online are you going to find more video of yesterday's services as well as a slide show. just look under the sf

firefighters tab. antioch police increasing patrol near a park after a string of suspicious fires according to the contra costa times some homes were briefly threatened last night by a one acre grass fire between yorkshire and palomar drives. it's the third fire in a week in just that army officials told the newspaper neighbors spotted three juveniles running from the scene when the latest fire started around 7:30 last night. today marin county firefighters are giving advice to homeowners about how to prevent their houses from burning during a wildfire. one thing homeowners are urged do is clear 100 feet of defensible space around their homes. firefighters say that not only helps protect property, it also provides a safety zone for crews battling a wildfire. firefighters will be canvassing several areas around marin county today and tomorrow. there is a new development in the bryan stow beating case. nbc los angeles reports a bloodstained jersey was dropped off in a l.a. dry cleaners and workers turned it over to police.

test results show the dna on the jersey matches stowe's dna. he was severely beaten in march. goo vanney ramirez is the prime suspect but nbc los angeles says police told them the jersey does not block. to ramirez. his attorney says that support his client's claim of innocence. >> it has the ring of truth to me because we believe that giovanni ramirez has never been at dodger stadium, much less on the day of the beating. >> police are confident they have the right man, and ramirez is held on parole violation and has not yet been charged in the stow case. bryan stow remains in critical condition. police used search dogs in niles and palomar canyons yesterday, believing michelle le may be in a rural area somewhere in the east bay. yesterday's search turned up no new clues in that case.

friend of michelle le held a vigil for her in san diego last night. it was near the high school where she once went to school. classmates remembered her as a person who cared very deeply about others. she was last seen on the night of may 27th at kaiser hospital in hayward. overnight a small earthquake struck in the ocean off the coast of southern california. the 3.6 quake hit at 1:17 this morning, 30 miles west of malibu. the quake was pretty shallow with a depth of only 1.9 miles but people in the area say they felt t. there are no reports of damage. the power is back on for thousands of customers in oakland this morning after an overnight outage. this is video of pg&e crews working to fix the problem. they had to replace some overhead wires on east 15th street and 57th avenue. about 5,000 customers lost electricity. just before 3:30 this morning the power was restored within

suspending burn permits in all areas. the chief tells ktvu that amounts to 1.6 million acres and mostly hilly and remote areas. the declaration also means more staffing in santa clara county, cal-fire district. california lawmakers are working through the weekend in an effort to come up with the budget that is due on wednesday. legislators have an extra incentive this year to beating june 15th ted lynn, or a new state law says they won't get paid until they deliver a balanced budget to governor brown's desk. yesterday a bill to allow extensions on certain taxes failed to pass the senate, but another bill did pass, making it easier for local governments to go to voters to approve tax increases. governor brown is still pushing for a special election this fall to allow voters to decide about the tax extensions currently california's budget deficit is $9.6 billion. the new citizens commission charged with deciding a boundaries of california's congressional assembly and senate districts has unveiled

the first draft of its redistricting maps. in 2001, the legislature created what was the last group of borders and critics said they were designed to protect incumbents. the commission first draft of the new district boundaries is all based on the 2010 cencus. the commission says it has more uniform borders. in 2008, proposition 11 took the job of redistricting away from politicians and gave it to the people of california. >> one, districts are drawn route ward to incumbents and partisan considerations. two, districts reflect geographic and common sense boundaries. and three, the districts balance the needs of different communities of interest across california. >> the commission plans to tour the state to get more input from the public and will issue a final decision on the draft on august 15th. new york congressman anthony weiner is now admitting

he exchanged private messages on twitter with a 17-year-old girl. but he says they were not inappropriate. weiner issued a statement yesterday after reports surfaced that police interviewed the high school girl in delaware. the girl's family says the messages were harmless but they expressed concern he was sending private messages to a teenager. earlier he admitted to send, sexually explicit photos and messages to women over the internet. media converged yesterday 24,000 pages of e-mails were released from sarah palin' first 21 months as governor of alaska. she dealed with death threats and was bothered by reporter questions. especially one about whether she believed dinosaurs and humans existed at the same time. us airways' computer system crashed yesterday after a power outage near a data center in phoenix. the problem delayed many

flights around the nation. if you are flying today, you should check and double-check your flight status before heading off to the airport. three dozen transportation security administration workers in hawaii may soon be looking for new jocks. the tsa has begun the process of firing 36 employees at honolulu international airport, 12 others have already been suspended. officials say an investigation determined the employees did not properly screen baggage for explosives. one of the workers who received the termination notice is the airport security director. >> so important for every employee of auer agency to know that they will be held accountable for their actions, and won't be limited to lower level employees. senior management as well. >> the union representing the employees say three were under pressure to ensure flights departed on time. those facing termination will have an opportunity to appeal. another thrilling win at at&t park, yet many giants fans were not happy when they left

try tea leaves from four eastern areas. japanese authorities are now debating what constitutes a safe level of contamination. germany's health minister is warning the number of deaths from an e.coli outbreak may increase but i is hopeful the worst is over. the e.coli outbreak has so far killed 33 people and sickened more than 3,000. the german health minister says it's unlikely the outbreak will flare up again but warns further deaths are hospital. german officials determine the source of the outbreak was bean sprouts. and a medical mystery in joplin, missouri. there's evidence tornado victims have been infected with a rare and potentially deadly fungus. three people injured in the tornadoes later died and autopsies turned up the fungus. the centers for disease control are looking into the matter. last saturday quite a wet day. this saturday quite different. >> at least it's dry.

shots fired early this morning in san jose, and right now homicide investigators are on scene looking for clues in the case. good morning, everyone. welcome back to mornings on 2. this morning's deadly shooting in san jose just the latest spike in a recent spike in crime. this happened before 2:30 this morning. and ali rasmus is live on the scene with more on the investigation. ali. >> reporter: police are still in the process of putting some of the pieces of information together out here. they're still investigating and they still have some pretty limited information for us. but it appears that investigators are in the process of interviewing what

appears to be several potential witnesses. just in the last hour or so, we've watched police pull aside about a dozen or so people, men and women, and officers have been taking notes as they talk to that group of people presumably to do some sort of interview, talk to the people who may have seen or heard anything in the area. police first arrived on the 400 block of nerdy avenue after neighbors heard gunfire. when police arrived they found a man in his 20s suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. hess pronounced dead at the scene. police have not released the victim's identity and don't know the motive for the shooting. they don't know if the shooting was gang-related. but we did talk to a neighbor who didn't want to be identified but he described what he heard moments before the shooting. >> [speaking in spanish]

>> people shouting. that neighbor explained he heard some tires spinning, people shouting and then at least three gunshots in this area. and he says because of the number of cars parked out here, it appeared there was some sort of party or gathering taking place when this shooting happened. now, as far as suspects go, police say they do not have any suspects in custody. all they know is that there are some reports of a suspect or suspects. they don't know how many people were involved, fled the scene after the shooting. if live in san jose, ali rasmus, ktvu channel 2 news. san jose police are also reviewing surveillance video from the mcdonald's restaurant amp five people were hurt during a fight inside a parking lot, just before 10:00 thursday night in the downtown air at third and san carlos after an outdoor music concert. witnesses and police say up to 50 people were involved in the melee. five teenagers were hurt. two of them were stabbed but they are expected to survive. neighbors and business owners say this is now a problem area.

>> a witness of gang beating, several people have passed out on my doorstep. >> we've got a lot of partyers, and i've heard there's actual gangs from out of town. >> so far, no one has been arrested. and with music in the park, now happening on thursday, san jose police say they will be looking to add security. san jose police have arrested a 19-year-old in connection with the homicide from may. police say joseph beltran, stabbed 20-year-old demetrius campbell to death. beltran was arrested at his home wednesday night and formally charged with homicide yesterday. he is held without bail. six people from fairfield under arrest this morning in connection with a homicide in vallejo last month. it was may 13th when he was found shot to death in a parking lot. police say he was bound and

shot in the head execution- style. detectives arrested six people on suspicion of kidnap, torture and murder. the oakland police department says it will have extra officers on the streets this weekend leading up to the release of bart police officer johannes mehserle on monday. last summer, mehserle was convicted of involuntary manslaughter for the shooting death of oscar grant. a few months later he was sentenced to two years in prison. mehserle will be getting an early release because of time already served, as well as good conduct. friends and family of oscar grant are not happy about mehserle's up coming release and are planning a rally tomorrow followed by a march to city hall where a second rally will then take place. as the weather heats up, a word of warning once again about leaving a child in a hot car. it happened yesterday at a shopping center on bailey road in bay point. people saw a little boy alone in the back of a car. he seemed unresponsive so they called 911. paramedics put the boy in the ambulance, they say he is going

to be okay. >> they pulled the baby close and tapped his little face. he wasn't saying a word. scared the mess out of me. >> the woman who was supposed to be caring for the boy had been inside the dollar store. after questioning her, officer didn't make an arrest, she was gone less than 10 minutes. a program aims to keep teenagers safe off the streets late at night. this rec center was the site of a basketball game last night, and over the next few weeks they will be rolling out art and cooking classes, movies and games. anything to get young people to come in off the streets. >> you should be able to go everywhere. that's why we try to open this up so we can have fun, stay out of trouble. show people oakland is not just about homicides and stuff. >> we try to stay out of way. >> the gun fire doesn't stop but what will stop is our kids getting kid on the streets for those that are just hanging out because they say there's nothing do here in the city of

oakland. >> can be dangerous getting to and from the activities. organizers are work on transportation solutions as well. good morning to you! a live look at bay point with a mix of sunshine and clouds out there. we've got some high clouds, just the tail end a trough that will bring us cooling for the afternoon. we're slightly cooler this morning and the winds not so bad. we are watching them really pick up at sfo. oakland reporting winds 15 to 20. outside of that, winds have lightened up quite a bit from last night. 17 miles per hour right now in concord. 12 in redwood city. so we could see them actually blowing throughout the morning and into the afternoon. which means our temperatures going to be cool and mild, bring along a light jacket and you should be fine. talk a look mat we can expect outside your door as we roll that the afternoon, we're going to deal with it so could see slow clearing on the coast, the rest of us by noontime should see pretty good clearing,

partly cloudy skies expected by 10:00 here. still on the east bay stretching inland on the coast, peninsula, all the way down into monterey. noontime, most of us clearing out at least with the low clouds. we'll be partly cloudy for today, but it takes until 3:00 or so before it finally starts to pull back to the coast, san francisco golden gate bridge could remain mostly cloudy for today, san mateo partly cloudy and the coastline dealing with the low clouds and fog for the afternoon, then clouds are back for tonight. so this condition going to continue for today and our temperatures will be anywhere from three to six degrees cooler for the afternoon. the morning clouds, the sun and clouds for the afternoon, temperatures this morning running one to two degrees cooler than yesterday. 50 in napa. 52 san rafael. 53 redwood city, and 54 in hayward as you step outside if do you have the wind blowing outside, you will need that jacket because it's going to feel even cooler than what those temperatures read. 70 degrees expected this afternoon and napa. 74 santa rosa.

>> the president pointed to the partnership he announced this week between community colleges and the manufacturing industry. 500,000 students are taking classes towards a manufacturing credential that insures they will graduate with the skills needed to find a job. stocks down over boys a stagnant global economy, and the possibility of a double dip recession on friday the dow was 172 points, closed below 12,000 for the first time since march. the nasdaq down 41 points. it is the dow's sixth consecutive week of losses. it's also the longest string of down weeks since october of 2002. a group of activists is upset with the company apple, saying it does not hire enough minorities or people in the u.s. members of the black economic forum and others rallied outside of san francisco apple store yesterday protestors saying apple employees only 50,000 people in the united

states and of that's only 2% are black, 4% latino and less than 25% are women. >> the bottom line here is apple needs to educate more those communities. >> apple says between its retail stores and a tidal wave of app developers, more american jobs are being created. peninsula congresswoman jackie speer is urging people to buy american made products. she's organizing an exhibit at the san mateo fair today. that will feature locally made products. the economists say 200,000 new american jobs could be created if every american spent just $6 more a year on american made products. more than $2.6 million is headed to san francisco's glide foundation. that's how much an anonymous bidder is paying to have lunch with billionaire investor warren buffet. people gathered last night to watch the final moments of the ebay auction. at the end of the bidding, the high bid was at $2.3 million.

good morning to you in. a live look at&t park there, partly cloudy skies, going to be a cool day and a little breezy if you're headed out to the game. large waves are battering coastal areas of chile. some have reached as high as 30 feet. an unusual weather storm pattern has been affecting ocean currents for about a week now as local fishermen are hit hard after waves destroyed their boats and equipment. some families near the shoreline have also been evacuated. a murder trial of a florida woman accused of killing her two-year-old daughter continues today. we have testimony jurors are now hearing. >> reporter: good morning all morning there's an been entomologist testifying on baffle of the prosecution, who says basically the bugs prove

that little caylee anthony was in casey anthony's trunk for three or four days. the entomologist testifying that blow flies were found in the garbage bag which was removed from casey anthony's vehicle when it was picked up from the impound lot by her mother and father. the bag was later retrieved, then entomologist tested it and basically a bug expert found bugs, flies, blow flies that he says are always associated with decomposition of some sort. whether it's human or whether it's animal. and it was on paper towels within the garbage bag, and his conclusion was there was decompositional fluid on those paper towels. yesterday casey anthony was very, very -- very -- not pleasant, not really having much fun, as photographs were shown to the jurors of her

little daughter's bones. skeletal remains scattered about the woods, where they were found in december of 2008, as she really started crying heavily every single time the forensic anthropologist testified that what he saw on the bones that they recovered were chew marks, gnawing marks, all from animals in the woods, a lot of bones had been scattered about by han as p every time that testimony came up yesterday they seemed to really disturb her. the defense at the end of the day yesterday motioned for a mistrial, because they found what the jury witnessed yesterday afternoon here in the courthouse was grossly prejudicial. that was a videotape that was prepared by prosecutors that shows a still photo of a smiling, happy and alive caylee anthony, but then it morphed through animation into an actual crime scene photograph of her skull that was about the

same size. and then there's a piece of duct tape super-imposed over the nose and mouth, because prosecutors are making the case that one single piece of duct tape because of how small caylee's skull was two have been sufficient to suffocate and kill her. >> how are the jurors reacting to all this? we know the testimony has been difficult to hear. how are the jurors responding? >> well, all of jurors have a direct view of her in the courtroom. so they all watched her reaction in the past few days, where she really did appear nauseous and got sick on thursday. they are paying very close attention. one of the jurors did seem to be a little disturbed by what some described as graphic photographs. i've seen the uncensored photographs of the skeletal remains, and the skull, and i find them to be quite clinical. but some of the jurors -- it's a two-year-old child, so it hit their emotions. but they're paying very close attention and taking a lot of

notes. >> phil colting, thank you very much joining us live from orlando. a judge ordered a former orange county sheriff's deputy become to jail after authorities say he showed up drunk to his dui sentencing. authorities say they could smell alcohol on the breath of 37-year-old alan james waters at friday's hearing. he is now held on $250,000 bail and a new sentencing date is scheduled for wednesday. back in april he pleaded guilty to charges related it a pair of traffic collisions, including one that injured a 78-year-old woman. a modesto woman in stable condition at a southern california hospital this morning after being found nearly unconscious inside a u- haul van. 44-year-old robin grant was found yesterday afternoon after someone called police about the u-haul in a riverside county parking lot for several days. sheets to of newspaper were covering the windows and liquid leaking from the cab of the van. the bomb squad was called in if a robot found the body. police say she was alive and breathing but not responding to

any questions. officials later said nothing hazardous was found in the truck. in san jose, a pedestrian was hit and killed by a car as he crossed the street yesterday afternoon on saratoga avenue south of gray's avenue. a 26-year-old woman was behind the wheel of that car that hit the unidentified victim who later died at the hospital. the driver is cooperating with police and is does not appear drugs or alcohol were involved. a pay area woman was fatally hit by a car after she pulled over to help a stranger. that crash happened thursday about 11 a.m. on highway 56 near castroville. the chp says 36-year-old veronica was about to get back into her car when she was hit. and her 13-year-old son saw the crash from inside the car. the driver of the car that hit brumley was not arrested or cited. a federal judge expects the first lawsuit to go to trial in a massive class action against toyota over a sudden acceleration problem in early

2000. the acceleration problem led toyota recalled 14 million cars. the first lawsuit involves a crash that killed two people in utah. toilet says it welcomes the first lawsuit because it will focus on what the company calls the alleged technical defects at the heart of the cases. general motors is recalling 47,000 cadillac srx vehicles because of a problem with the passenger side air bags. the national highway traffic safety administration says that the right side head protection air bag won't inflate in a crash if no one is in the front seat. that means a right-side passenger in the backseat may not be protected and could get hurt in a front or side- collision. no injuries have been reported so far. the u.s. government is asking banks to increase their security that protects credit card and accounts. this comes after citigroup revealed that hackers stole the account names, numbers and e- mail addresses of more than 200,000 customers. the government specifically wants banks to develop tougher procedures for log into online

accounts. it's requiring longer passwords changed more frequently. the man president obama wants to lead the pentagon says the next big battle america fights will be in cyberspace. leon peta made the comments during hearings for his appointment to become the new defense secretary. he warned of a possible cyber attack aimed at america's electrical grid and financial systems. the pentagon is expected next month to release unclassified parts of its first cyber battle plan, including plans for when military retaliation would be appropriate. after his confirmation hearing on capitol hill, leon peta traveled to pakistan in his current role as c.i.a. director. today he is talking with senior pakistani officials about forming a joint intelligence team to track down terrorists inside pakistan. the u.s. and pakistan are working to repair strained relations following the u.s. raid that killed osama bin laden on side pakistan's borders. defense secretary robert gates had some harsh word for

san jose police are investigating the city's 24th homicide of the year. i just spoke with the police lieutenant about the investigation. the people they've interviewed so far and the many questions they're still trying to answer. >> a teenage girl in hayward is seriously hurt after a hit-and- run crash. the car police are looking for this morning.

still on the scene and ali rasmus is live in san jose watching as dozens of residents talk to police. she has more on the investigation and what neighbors are saying. ali. >> reporter: you can see there's still a police presence out here where the shooting happened last night. the coroner's van just arrived and i spoke to one of police lieutenants here. he says at the time of the shooting, at 2:30 this morning, there was some sort of gathering taking place at a house on this block. however, police don't know if this shooting was related to that gathering. what we do know is investigators talked to a dozen or so people who were at the gathering to find out what if anything they may have seen or heard. the lieutenant mentioned this is a residential street. there are a number of homes on the block and so they've talked to at least a dozen people who may have seen or heard some of the gunfire that happened around 2:30 last night. that is when the shooting occurred. san jose police arrived at the

400 block of nerdy avenue after neighbors called in to report hearing gunfire. when police got here, they found a man in his 20s in the street, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. that man was pronounced dead at the scene. we talked to a neighbor who didn't want to be identified, but he told us what he heard minutes before the shooting. the man explained to us in spanish he could hear tires screeching and spinning and people shout engine the streets, then he heard at least three gunshots and said he went back into his home because he figured it was a dangerous situation out here. police don't know the motive yet for the shooting. and they don't know who the suspects are. they don't have anyone in custody. we want to show you back out here live, the view from our mass cam. you can see the santa clara county coroner's van on the scene. they arrived about 15 minutes ago. we're still waiting to find out the identity of that 20-year-

old gunshot victim. eyal rasmus, ktvu channel 2 news. police are searching for the driver of a car that hit a teenage girl last night and then drove off. the family of 17-year-old say she was walking with friends on soto street in hayward around 9:00 last night when she was hit by the car. she was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. police say the car was white, possibly a toyota corolla or volkswagen jetta. police and the girl's family are asking anyone with information about this incident to please contact hayward police. also overnight, power was restored to thousands of customers in oakland. about 5,000 customers lost electricity before 3:30 this morning. we found pg&e crews working to fix the problem. replacing overhead wires on east 15th street and 57th avenue. they were able to restore power in about an hour and that cause of that outage is still under investigation. two fallen san francisco firefighters were remembered as heroes during a funeral service that drew thousands of people from the bay area and beyond.

lieutenant vincent perez and anthony valerio worked out of station 26. they were side by side on june 2, when they were overwhelmed by flames inside a burning home in diamond heights. bagpipes were played as the firefighters flag-draped caskets arrived outside st. mary's yesterday. there was a salute from a sea of uniformed comrades that came from all over the country. inside elected officials, family and colleagues packed the pews to say thank you. 48-year-old vincent perez was a san francisco native, former marine and deputy, as well as a classic car lover. 53-year-old anthony valerio was described as a free spirit who called himself the people's paramedic. >> vincent and tony were our gentleness and our strength. together, gentleness and strength stood in that fateful

day that brought us together here for this service. >> at the end of the service, san francisco's fire chief and mayor presented each firefighter's helmet and badge to their families. and a final alarm was also sounded. while san francisco firefighters said good-bye, the two of their own firefighters from other bay area cities stepped in to answer emergency calls. one of those calls came around 7 a.m., after a fire broke out at a church in the ingleside neighborhood. neighbors there say they were grateful to see the extra help. firefighters were not the only ones who assisted. ambulance companies also volunteered so that san francisco fire emt's could attend the services as well. the procession that followed the funeral service took the fallen firefighters from cathedral hill to holy cross cemetery. two fire engines carrying the caskets made their way through city streets. police shut down part of

interstate 280 for the procession and that caused some delays on 101 and city streets. but people said they understood. >> i'm happy to see all the firemen here, paying respects to the two firemen who lost their lives. >> the procession affected 30 muni lines and bus at the tours did cause some confusion. traffic officers were out to help guide drivers and pedestrians. we do have more video of yesterday's funeral services as well as a slide show on our website. just look under the sf firefighters tab on ktvu.com. marin county firefighters giving vices to homeowners how to prevent their houses from burning down. homeowners should clear 100 feet of defensible space around their houses. firefighters say that not only helps protect property, it also provides a safety zone for crews battling a wildfire. firefighters will be canvassing several areas around marin county today and tomorrow. hayward police say their

latest search for michelle le turned up no sign of the missing student. dogs were used to comb the area canyons yesterday. hayward police are treating the case as a homicide. investigators say they believe le's body is in a rural area somewhere in the east bay. she was last seen on the night of may 27th, at kaiser hospital in hayward. >> she's alive. don't give up hope! >> that was the message in southern california, where a vigil brought together friends of le's. gathering in a community park near mount carmel high school we michelle once went to school. a jet made an emergency landing at san francisco international airport. a united spokesman says smoke fumes were reported in the cabin yesterday on the flight from las vegas to san francisco. it landed safely at sfo around 7:00 last night. 179 passengers and six crewmembers were onboard. no one was hurt.

felt the shaking. so far, no reports of any damage. strong winds are hitting firefighters battling an out-of- control wildfire in arizona. it is only 6% contained and now the blaze is threatening to move beyond state lines. three dozen tsa agents at honolulu air port could soon be out of a job. what landed them in trouble. and live look at the maze, you can see traffic moving along smoothly as we wait for the sunshine to shine on that freeway.

good morning to you. what a beautiful start in bay point this morning. we've got high clouds streaming through. we're following developing news outs of north carolina this morning. four people have been found shot to death along a highway. sheriff officials say the bodies of three women were found inside a car. the body of the man was located outside the car. authorities say the shootings do not appear to be random. firefighters in arizona are bracing for strong winds today as they continue to battle an out-of-control wildfire. yesterday calmer conditions did help firefighters get 6% containment some far more than 400,000 acres have burned. almost 10,000 people remain evacuated. one man says he tried to stick it out and did for several days after being warned to head for safer ground. >> got scary. the wind was blowing so hard and you could even see concern

and possibly fear in the hot- shot crews' faces. >> air quality is poor, and that could reportedly delay the process of getting people back home even after the fire is out. concern about a pair of critical power lines has lessened but the fire is threatening to move into new mexico. more than 30 homes and cabins have been destroyed. fire season in parts of santa clara, contra costa, and alameda counties begins monday. cal-fire is suspending burn permits for all areas it overseas. a chief tells ktvu that amounts to 1.6 million acres in mostly hilly and remote areas. the declaration also means more staffing in the santa clara county cal-fire district. antioch police increasing patrols near a park after a string of suspicious fires. according to the contra costa times, some homes were briefly threatened lasts night by a one acre grass fire. it is the third fire in a week and just that area. fire officials told the paper neighbors spotted three juveniles running from the

scene last nighmonths since that devastating earthquake and tsunami hit japan. more than 90,000 people are still living in evacuation centers as they wait for the government to build some kind of temporary homes. one of reasons for the slow progress has been the massive amount of debris that still needs to be cleared. clean-up has not started near the fukashima daiichi plant, where workers have still trying to repair damage to nuclear reactors. in an about-face, the government is now admitting that green tea from its largest tea growing region is contaminated with radiation fallout from the fukashima daiichi plant. last week, the government decided to curb shipments of dried tea leaves from four areas. japanese authorities are debate what constitutes safe level of contamination. authorities say eight children are among 16 people killed by a roadside bomb that hit a mini bus in southern afghanistan today. the attack took place in the

wednesday. legislators have been extra incentive this year to meet the june 15th deadline. if they don't, a new state law says they won't get paid until they actually deliver a balanced budget to governor brown's desk. yesterday a bill to allow extensions on certain taxes failed to pass the state senate. but another bill did pass making it easier for local governments to go to voters to approve tax increases. governor brown is still pushing for a special election this fall to allow voters to decide about the tax extensions currently california's budget deficit is $9.6 billion. the new citizens commission charged with deciding the boundaries of california's congressional assembly and senate district has unveiled the first draft of its redistricting mapped. in 2001 the legislature created the last group of borders and critics have said the borders were designed to protect incumbents. the citizens commissions first draft of the new district boundaries is based on the 2010 cencus. the commission says it has more

uniformed borders. in 2008, proposition 11 took the job of redistricting away from politicians and gave it to the people of california. >> one, districts are drawn without regard to political incumbents and partisan considerations. two, districts reflect geographic and common-sense boundaries, and three, the districts balance the needs of different communities of interest across california. >> the commission plans to tour the state to get more input from the public and will issue a final decision on the draft on august 15th. u.s. airways computer system is back up and running this morning. it crashed yesterday after a power outage near a talenta center in phoenix. the problem grounded and delayed many flights around the nation. the airline did not say how many flights of people were affected. and while the problem is being fixed there's still could be delays today. u.s. airways says you should check and double-check your flight status before heading off to the airport. three dozen transportation

off the pacific coast of mexico. the national hurricane center in miami predicts the storm center will stay well offshore but it is expected to create large waves off mexico's southwestern coast this weekend. hurricane adrian is the first hurricane of the 2011 season. the centers for disease control is investigating the deaths of some tornado victims in joplin, missouri. autopsies of three people who were hurt and last month's tornado and later died turned up a rare fungus. so far they're not saying it's the cause of death, only that they've found it. the infection is caused by fungi frequently found in the soil and vegetation but only affects people with weakened immune system. there's a new development in the bryan stow beating case. the item brought to a los angeles dry kleiner that is reportedly contacted to the giants fan who is still

hospitalized in critical condition. an overnight shooting becomes san jose's 24th homicide of the year. what police say about the investigation so far.

right now homicide investigators are at a home in south san jose after a man is shot and killed overnight. and welcome back to mornings on 2, everyone. san jose police are now investigating their 24th homicide of the year. ali rasmus is live in san jose as police look for clues and interview witnesses. ali. >> reporter: police and investigators are still here on the scene, you can see from this crime scene tape here that they industrial a portion of

nerdy avenue closed off. but i spoke to one of lieutenants who says so far this morning investigators have been able to talk to more than a dozen people who were in the area and awake at the time the shooting happened. it happened around 2:30 this morning. the lieutenant says at the same time, there was a gathering or party happening at one of houses on this block. so between the hours of 7 and 8 clinton 30 in morning, we watched as investigators interviewed several people who had been at that overnight gathering and they interviewed them as potential witnesses but police lieutenant was very clear to point out they don't know if that party was related in any way to this homicide. they're still trying to see if there's any connection there. police arrived at the 400 block of nerdy avenue this morning after neighbors reported hearing gunfire. police found a man in his 20s suffering from multiple gunshot wounds lying in the street. that man was pronounced dead afterwards. one of questions police are still trying to answer is, where this victim came from. they don't know if he was walking down the street or

coming out of one of the houses on the block when he was shot. >> we know where we found him in the street, but we don't know if he was associated at the house where he was by or associated to another house or associated to any of these houses on the street. >> this is san jose's 24th homicide of the year. and comparison, in 2010 last year, the city had 20 homicides for the entire year. so, so far, they've passed that number and it's only the first half of 2011. >> it's a concern for my little ones. i have little ones, teenagers, so it's really a concern. >> obviously something some of neighbors are very worried about. now in this most recent homicide, so far police say they don't know the motive for this shooting. they don't know if it was gang- related. they don't have any suspects. they don't have anyone in custody, and just about 20 minutes ago the santa clara county coroner's van just left the scene. we still don't know the

identity of the victim. the 20-year-old man who was found shot here. ali rasmus, ktvu channel 2 news. san jose police made a recent arrest in one of their homicides. police say joseph beltran, seen here, stabbed a man to death last month at an argument at a cinco de mayo barbeque. beltran was arrested wednesday night and formally charged with the homicide of 20-year-old demetrius campbell. beltran is held without bail. six people from fairfield under arrest in connection with a homicide in vallejo last month. it was may 13th when keith oso bee was found shot to death in a parking lot near the spring book temple. police say he was bound and shot in the head execution- style. detectives arrested six people on suspicion of kidnap, torture and murder. thousands gathered to celebrate the lives of two fallen san francisco firefighters. family elected officials and firefighters from all over the

country filled st. mary's cathedral yesterday to morning the loss of two firefighters. both group in san francisco, and both worked out of station 26. neighbors side by side on june 2 when they overwhelmed by flames inside a burning home in diamond heights. >> there are no words that can describe the pain, anger and sorrow that we are all feeling, nor are there words to describe the sacrifice that was made by vincent and tony last week. >> at the end, san francisco's fire chief and mayor presented each firefighter's helmet and becoming to his family. and a final alarm was sounded. the crowd of firefighters that came to pay their respects was so large that st. mary's ran out of room to hold them. some 1500 firefighters had to be directed to say red high school a block away, with where they could watch on screens. firefighters we spoke to say it was very important to be there. >> everybody felt the loss throughout the nation and our

goal is to keep our firefighters safe. and when it doesn't happen, we make sure we support not only the firefighters but the families that have had -- ultimate sacrifice. >> the sacred heart gymnasium but set up as an overflow room. more chairs had to be brought in. we have more video of the funerals and a slide show on our website. just look under the sf firefighters tab on ktvu.com. there is a new development in the bryan stow beating case. nbc los angeles reports a bloodstained jersey was dropped off at a dry cleaners. workers turned it over to police. test results reportedly show the dna on the jersey matches stowe's dna. stowe was beaten outside dodger stadium in march. giovanni ramirez is the prime suspect but police say the jersey does not belong to ramirez. his attorney says the report supports his client's claim of

innocence. >> it has the ring of truth to me because we believe that gee vanna ramirez has never been to dodger stadium, much less on the day of the beating. >> police say they're confident they have the right man. ramirez is held on a parole violation and has not been charged in the stow case. bryan stow remains hospitalized in san francisco in critical condition. the oakland police department says it will have extra officers on the streets this weekend leading up to the expected release of former bart police officer johannes mehserle on monday. last summer mehserle was convicted of involuntary manslaughter for the shooting death of oscar grant. then he was sentenced to two years in prison. mehserle will be getting an early release because of time already served as well as god conduct. friends and family of oscar grant are not happy about mehserle's upcoming release and are planning a rally tomorrow followed by a march to city

hall, where a second rally is expected to take place. as the weather heats up, a word of warning about leaving a child in a hot car. it happened yesterday at a shopping center on bailey road in bay point. people saw a little boy alone in the back of the car and he seemed unresponsive. so they called 911. paramedics put the boy in the back of an ambulance. they say he will be okay. >> they pulled the baby close and tapped his little face. he wasn't saying a word. scared the mess out of me. >> a woman who was supposed to go care for the boy had on bin side the dollar store after questioning her officers did not make an arrested. they said she was gone for less than 10 minutes. in san jose, a pedestrian was hit and killed by a car as he crossed the street. it happened around 2:00 yesterday afternoon at saratoga avenue south of gray's avenue. police say a 26-year-old campbell woman was behind the wheel of the car that hit the unidentified victim. he later died at the hospital. the driver is cooperating with police and it does not appear drugs or alcohol were involved.

san jose police are also reviewing surveillance video from a mcdonald's restaurant after five people were hurt during a fight in the parking lot. it happened just before 10:00 thursday night in the downtown area at third and san carlos, right after an outdoor music concert. witnesses and police say they were up to 50 people involved in the melee. five teenagers were hurt are two stabbed, but they are expected to survive. neighbors and business owners say this is now a problem area. >> a witness of gang beating, several people passed out on my doorstep. >> we've got a lot of partyers, and i've heard there's actual gangs from out of town. >> so far, no one has been arrested. with music in the park now happening on thursdays, police say they are going to look at adding security. a new summer program up and running in oakland, and it aims to keep teenagers safe by keeping them off the streets late at night. this east oakland rec center was the site of a basketball game last night and over next

livermore 9. little gusty at times and temperatures rebounding. san francisco right about 54 degrees. temperatures just a degree or two cooler than yesterday. low 50s in santa rosa and napa. and we're already again watching the temperatures rebound from earlier this morning where the north bay has slipped into the 40s. backing in up and showing you the satellite view, we're catching the tail end of a weak disturbance and this tail end going to continue to cool us down, and even bring us high clouds in addition to the low clouds that we're seeing. so partly cloudy skies today, rain staying north. temperatures will be running cooler than what we typically get this time of year. this trough will move through by tomorrow. we see just a little bit of improvement but i want to show you out here this ridge of high pressure. that will be off the coast in time for early next week. and we do expect our

good morning. live look over the oakland estuary, dealing with mostly gray skies. germany's health minister warning the number of death super-an e.coli outbreak may increase but is hopeful the worst is over. the outbreak has so far killed 33 people. sicken more than 3,000. he says it's unlikely it will flair up again bur warnings further deaths are possible. yesterday officials had determined the source of the outbreak was from bean sprouts from an organic farm. health officials in thailand said they detected e.coli if cabbage from belgium. they're check to be see if it's the deadly strain from the outbreak in germany. the country had a false alarm about a shipment of european avocadoes earlier this week. a murder trial of a florida woman accused of killing her two-year-old daughter is going

on right now. the reporter phil keating joining us live from orlando to talk about the testimony jurors are currently hearing. phil. >> reporter: the testimony of this morning, this half day saturday court session in the murder trial of casey anthony, featured testimony by an entomologist, a bug expert, which indicates the body of caylee anthony very likely was in the trunk of her mother's car, casey anthony, for three or four days. dr. neil will testify on stand he found several hundred blow fly larvae and can coons, all of which were dead, in the trash bag which was found in the trunk of casey anthony's car, which was tossed into a dumpster when her parents george and cindy went to retrieve the car back in the summer of 2008. the doctor testified that he found the source to be the paper towels, and his

conclusion based on the type of fly and these types of flies always -- on decomposition, whether human or animal. he concluded that the paper towels had decompensational fluid on them. now, bones were released into evidence, photographs of bones of caylee anthony, and her mother broke down on the stand several -- on the defense table several times yesterday, as the forensic anthropologist was testifying about how the bones had been scattered about by animals, some of the bones had gnawing marks or chew marks, and that really forced casey anthony to keep her head down even further. she never once looked at any of these skeletal remains, photographs. but the defense attorneys did motion for a mistrial at the end of the day yesterday because they found they believe what the jury viewed yesterday afternoon was grossly prejudicial. and that is a five-minute or so videotape presentation which

prosecutors prepared one of their witnesses did, which starts with a real photograph of caylee anthony, smiling at the camera, and then it morphs through graphic animation in a same-size actual real crime scene photograph of her skull, after it was found in the woods, and then super-imposed over the nose and mouth is one single piece of duct tape. so it's not true evidence, it's more imaginary evidence, the defense really had a issue with that. but the judge ruled that it was admissible because both sides are focusing on the duct tape. prosecutors contend duct tape is the murder weapon, and the defense is arguing the duct tape was not attached to the skull or the bones, and that it was just lying on ground. back to you in san fran. >> thank you. for that update. a modesto woman in stable condition at a southern california hospital this morning after being found

nearly unconscious in a u-haul van. 44-year-old robin grant was found yesterday afternoon after someone called police about the u-haul which had been in a riverside county parking lot for several days. sheets of newspaper covering the windows and liquid was leaking from the cab of the van. the bomb squad was called in and a robot found grant's body. police say she was alive and breathing but not responsive to questions. officials later said nothing hazardous was found inside the truck. new york congressman weiner is now admitting he exchanged private messages on at which time we're a 17-year-old girl. butt he said he were not inappropriate. police interviewed the high school junior in delaware and her family says the messages from the congressman were harmless. earlier this week weiner admitted to sending sexually explicit messages to women over the internet. sarah palin's e-mail exchanges show she was hard at
