6:32 am
getting their stuff out there. we are not sure if the building was livable. i did talk to the red cross and the buildings managers. 16-18 units in this building. and each one of those people will need help. this fire began around 1:50 this morning. when they got here this apartment you are looking at now was fully inflamed. we were able to go down the street. we're the first ones down there to do this and shoot the fire. the fire spread to three other units. now the man we saw just about got lead into his apartment. he was able to get some of his stuff out. he's got a wife. he has at least one child. they need their clothing and belongings. when we talked to somebody this morning that lives in the downstairs unit he tells me the person that lives upstairs had just gotten home. >> about 1:30 in the morning the neighbor came home from work and a few minutes later it
6:33 am
sounded like people were fighting up there. i went outside and looked and it was smoke pouring out. and i knocked on the doors on bottom and started screaming fire, fire so people would hear. >> and the reason i put that in there because that was the same guy you saw just a second ago upstairs in the apartment. he was able to get in there and the parakeets are okay and his little girl is happy. we are looking at video from earlier this morning. this was shot around 2:30 in the morning. you can see it was mutual aid from mountain view and sunnyvale and perhaps another fire department nearby. the fire was under control and out in about an hour and 15 minutes. we had the two injuries. the other injury was somebody that lived in this building that was banging on windows and one of the windows broke. he was warning people about the fire and cut his forearm as a result of that. if i can i will find out if the
6:34 am
fire department has a cause. reporting live in sunnyvale kraig debro. time is 6:33. hundreds of firefighters in central california are tackling a fire that has burned more than 4500-acres in two counties. now the antelope fire started yesterday morning at an oil field in cerin county. now it has moved into san lewis county. >> steep terrain. steep rocky terrain at this time which is making accessibility tough at this time. >> the fire is burning in grasslands. no buildings have been threatened. at least not for now. the cause of the fire is under investigation. wild fires continue to rage in arizona this morning. coming up at 6:45 the break fight firers could -- firefighters could get today. just hours ago authorities in contra costa county launched a search and rescue effort to
6:35 am
find two men that were stranded on the sacramento river. allie rasmus is joining us live to tell us what happened and what police are saying we can all learn from what happened to them. >> reporter: dave, we are standing on the pittsburgh marina right now. the water behind us is part of the sacramento river. i want to show you the shoreline out here. if you take a look at the water it's very still and also low tide right now. if it was high tide that water line you would see there would be all the way up to the bushes. now at low tide this water can be very tricky to jet ski in it. parts are two feet deep. the water is also very grassy. if that grass gets sucked into a pump, it can knock out a jet ski engine. that is what happened to two jet skiers that launched from the marina yesterday afternoon around 5:30. we watched as rescuers brought the 30 and 20-year-old jet skiers back to shore after they were on the water and stuck on
6:36 am
a single jet ski for nearly eight hours overnight. their jet got stuck in shallow water. one of the jet skis sank. the men didn't have their cell phones to contact anyone. when they didn't make it home their family members got concerned and called police. the two men weren't injure and didn't have to go the hospital. one another jet skiers told us what he would do differently. >> we were trying to make it to the side. we were kind of pushing the jet ski and yeah. >> did you have cell phones to call anybody? >> no. >> they were very lucky. they were not wearing wet suits. they didn't have any extra clothing on board their skis. they were very lucky it was 70 degrees all night long. >> reporter: and deputies say last year they responded to five water rescues like this
6:37 am
one with jet skiers getting stuck on this same body of water. usually during the water rescues, the people involved start suffering from hypothermia by the time rescuers arrive. if you do go jet skiing, it's always a good idea to brick a cell phone inside a plastic bag and it's a good idea to be aware of the tides. if it's low tides the water could be difficult to navigate in. a fire department at the center of a controversy helped out in a water rescue. the coast guard was called in to help a father and two children after their boat capsized near alameda yesterday. the alameda firefighters helped pull them to safety. the same fire for watching a suicidal man drown rather than attempt a rescue. alameda's new rules allows a senior fire captain to make the

6:40 am
looking at interstate 880. the traffic looks good here. both directions in front of the coliseum. if you are driving on 237 any time soon we will see slow traffic now on 237 getting out to highway 101. let's go to steve. thank you, sir. we do have hazy skies but no fog. it's well off the coast but it's close. and then south big sur so it's not going to impact us today. not much in the way of any breeze. temperatures are very warm. i will show you some in a second. 56-64 under clear skies but a little hazy out there. by noon 65-85. the coast deals with a little bit of a west wind. 72-98 so hot. inland it won't matter. black diamond which is at 1600 feet is 74 degrees. mount tam 71. belmont hills 67 degrees.

6:47 am
ramirez. he's going up against his patrol board. he could be set free or back to prison. later this morning he will face a patrol board to determine if he will be sent back to prison. it's a likely possibility but again the patrol hearing has nothing to do with the beating of giants fan bryan stow on opening day. the 42-year-old paramedic remains hospitalized. what the patrol board is looking into this morning is whether ramirez violated the conditions of his patrol. the day ramirez was arrested police say he found a gun hidden in the laundry basket in his apartment. he told police he didn't know that gun was there. >> patrol hearings are very difficult to succeed in. when you are on patrol there are very, very strict conditions. you can't associate with other patrol lees. you can't even j walk. they will have to make a decision. hopefully it's the right one.
6:48 am
the right one being they let him walk into the sunset. >> reporter: defense attorneys say whether or not ramirez's patrol was revoked their client was nowhere near giants stadium the day of the attack. if the patrol board finds there isn't enough evidence to prove ramirez was in possession of a firearm he could be set free. if that happens he will most likely be rearrested immediately by police. to keep him behind bars prosecutors will have to file charges within a few days. detectives say they are still looking for a second attackers and for that woman who drove the get away car. the hearing starts up today at 8:30 in the morning. that is the latest reporting from outside of the jail in los angeles. back to you. >> thank you. time now 6:48. the wind should be calmer today as firefighters battle those wild fires in arizona. the monument fire picked up
