san jose police say a man has been robbing all over the bay area. a new lawsuit in the shooting of oscar grant. the focus is on the medical attention he received on the night of his death. and which cities have the most potholes? the best and the worst roads of the bay area revealed. it's all ahead here on the ktvu morning news. good morning. thank you for waking up with

lot of stores in these cities where the man is hitting. just one store. just one of more than 100 targeted by this robber according to police. the man who robs the same liquor store retailer over and over again. san jose police have been the ones to figure out the robber is working same man following a june 12th robbery of a bev no store there. the man is responsible for 20 armed robberies all at bev mo. the man entered the store brandishing a handgun at employees and demanding money. the man left the store on foot. during the robbery here at the men lo park store report says the suspect demanded money from the safe and then cleaned out four cash registers. the man is described as a black man in his 30s weighing in about 200 pounds. call police when they found out the same man is responsible. this particular store does not have the sketch up yet so it's not even clear this sketch has gotten out to all the stores.

live in men lo park, kraig debro, ktvu channel 2 news. new this morning. a new lawsuit tied to the fatal shooting of oscar grant. an oakland fire department employee says colleagues failed to provide proper medical treatment to grant after he was shot on the bart platform. lawsuit also claims his superiors engaged in racism. the oakland fire department says he was not even at the scene of the shooting and the lawsuit has no merit. ktvu's claudine wong has been covering this case from the beginning. she's going to join us in just a bit with exclusive video of paramedics treating grant right after the shooting. the man who predicted the world would end on may 21st is going off the air. harold camping owns the oakland based christian radio station family radio. but at the end of the month the station will replace his weekday segment with new programming. the station says on june 9th he suffered a stroke and for health reasons will not be able

to continue his show. it's arraignment day in the east bay police corruption scandal. four former law enforcement officers will face dozens of felony charges when they appear in court this morning. a former narcotics team commander in contra costa county welsh. the long list of charges includes drug sales, conspiracy, illegal weapons, criminal threats, dui set ups and bribery. there are even accusations that the officers operated a brothel. another crucial hearing is scheduled this morning in the barry bonds case. federal prosecutors are due in a san francisco courtroom to discuss whether to schedule another perjury trial. now last april a jury deadlocked on three counts charging that bonds lied to a grand jury about his alleged steroid use. but convicted bonds overobstruction of justice. the defense hopes to throw out that lone conviction. today's hearing follows a court battle on whether to delay the case. also this morning some

members of congress including several from california will call on president obama to bring u.s. troops home from afghanistan at an even faster pace than announced last night. >> starting next month we will be able to remove 10,000 of our troops from afghanistan by the end of this year. >> president obama says by the end of next year a total of 33,000 troops will be pulled from afghanistan. that would leave about 70,000 there. but some americans say they're tired of war and the u.s. should not be spending money in other countries. >> we need the money here in our country. bottom line. we need the money. >> in afghanistan today the president responded to president obama's troop reduction announcement. he thanked international troops for their support and says the people of afghanistan will take over the defense of their country as foreign troops leave. now we have president obama's address in its entirety on our

website at ktvu.com in case you missed it or want to see it again. just look for the video player on the right hand side of our front page. the department of veteran affairs is now looking into the death of an iraq war veteran from modesto. the agency opened an investigation after a newspaper reported that 26-year-old william hamilton was turned away from the v.a. hospital in palo alto in may of 2010. three days later he stepped in front of a train. hamilton suffered from disturbing visions. records reportedly show that he was turned away from the v.a. hospital in palo alto because it was late in the day. a marine reservist has been linked to the shootings at several military buildings in the washington d.c. area last year. he was arrested last friday after he was spotted in arlington national cemetery in the early morning hours when the cemetery was closed. he was carrying a backpack he said was full of explosives. that turned out to not be true. but police found evidence that

ties the suspect to shots fired last year at military buildings in northern virginia. a marine recruiting center, the marine corps museum and the pentagon. no one was injured in the gunfire, but the f.b.i. has said they suspected the shooter had some sort of gripe against the marines. federal government would not oversee most marijuana laws if a new proposal becomes law. the bill being introduced today would let states set and enforce their own maybe laws. the federal government would deal only with controlling marijuana when it crosses u.s. borders or states with different policies. now bill backers say this would cut down on the violence and crime related to drug use, possession and sales. well, an annual pothole report reveals the best and worst roads to drive in the bay area. streets in brentwood, dublin have the highest scores and have the least cracks and potholes. east palo alto, oakland and

mill bray have some of the lowest scores. san francisco and san jose are somewhere in the middle. the metropolitan transportation commission says it would take the equivalent of a 20-cent per gallon gas tax to keep all bay area roads in good condition. so as we check in with sal for traffic, i guess that means they're telling us don't complain or it's going to cost you more. well, i don't know, maybe that's what they're saying. that's with mtc is saying. not you and me. >> no. >> we're not saying anything. >> no. >> except i'm saying traffic right now. good morning everybody. go out and take a look at the commute on westbound interstate 80 heading to the macarthur maze. that traffic is looking pretty good as you drive out to the maze. no major problems on 580 westbound as you drive to the macarthur maze area. there's the bay bridge toll plaza. and when they build that building, when they finish this building, the bay bridge camera will be repositioned so it will be out of our way. but we can't put it up there yet because the building's not

done. people ask me that. northbound 280 getting up to highway 17 that traffic is off to a nice start. and no problems this morning getting into the valley. 4:38. let's go to steve. do they ask you who the construction guy is as he walks back and forth occasionally. do you get questions about that? >> no. >> fog is actually retreating. it thickened and then right there see northwest wind taking care of it. it's a cooler breeze. not a warmer breeze. from about san francisco south san mateo, santa cruz coastline, it will be some fog in the morning here and also over the bay, but northward it's getting chewed up. but it's also cooler air coming in which is kind of destabilizing it a bit. fog to the south. sunny and windy on the coast. morning fog and breezy 60s and 70s around the bay. inland see temperatures near 80. so low 80s maybe a few mid-80s but temperature theme continues to come down. a lot of ooze. we had 60s here all week long. now they're in the 50s. livermore even at 55. 52 san rafael.

53 oakland. 54 in the city. and the classic set up for the sea breeze is there. west-southwest at travis southwest 9 at vacaville southwest 15 at napa. west-northwest oakland. southwest 6 at sfo. even a northwest at livermore. so it's all out of a cooler direction as the system moves in towards portland and that front right there weak as it may be moving into the northern part of the state will drag across us and bring in cooler air. fog, sun, breezy and cooler. fog mainly south of the golden gate. mild to warm inland nothing compared to what we had a couple days ago. 50s, 60s, 7 0z coast and bay. upper 70s to mainly low 80s inland but a few mid-80s far enough. if you're out towards lake county or sacramento it will be warmer. 90% of the area is cooling down. we'll continue that into saturday and sunday. maybe a little warmer on monday in advance of a system which could be really cool on wednesday, pam. okay. thank you, steve. well, some people in north dakota are fleeing their homes ahead of what's predicted to be

an historic flood. the river running through the town is already spilling into the streets submerging roadways and parks. but the national weather service predicts the worst is expected some time next week when the river will reach 1500 feet above sea level. crews have been trying to build dikes to save some homes and businesses from flooding. almost all 11,000 people in the town have been ordered to leave their homes. well, he's been on the run for 16 years. but now a notorious crime boss is wind bars. where he was captured and the crimes he was wanted for in the first place. plus the one of a kind program in the east bay to crack down on the world's oldest profession. san francisco northbound 101 traffic looks pretty good getting up to the lower deck of the bay bridge. we'll tell you more straight ahead.

good morning. low clouds and fog mainly south of san francisco getting wiped out by a northwest wind and some cooler air moving in along the marin-sonoma coast but with 60s, 70s for many today low 80s temperatures really taking a plunge inland. we want to show you video of the latest earthquake shaking northern japan. the 6.7 magnitude hit yesterday. a tsunami warning was issued by lifted about an hour later.

there are no reports of any major damage. the open center was farther north than the disastrous quake in march but it was felt across the same region. the mob boss who was just captured in southern california is due in federal court today. james whitety was arrested an an apartment complex in santa barbara yesterday evening. he's now 81. he was one of the f.b.i.'s ten most wanted and has been on the run for 16 years. he was the head of a notorious boston gang and was wanted for 19 murders. he was also the inspiration for the 2006 film the departed. people in oakland are fed up with prostitution. now they are targeting the men who keep the business booming. yesterday afternoon our cameras caught a handful of women walking up and down international boulevard. and it's a sight a neighborhood youth group wants to stop. they say if it wasn't for the customers, there wouldn't be any business. so they're writing dear john letters to anyone seen

participating. >> the letter will not make any accusations or indicate that there was any criminal activity, but just say this car was seen in an area where there's a lot of prostitution activity. >> businesses and neighbors will watch out for prostitution. then they will take note of the john's license plate and forward it to the youth center. they will pass it onto police who will then put the letter in the mail. organizers hope to get the first batch of letters in the mail by mid-july. the alameda fire department's water rescue training program is back on this morning after an infamous drowning incident. it's now been three weeks since witnesses say alameda firefighters stood by and watched a suicidal man drown in the bay. the department has reinstated the training program and firefighters can now perform water rescues. just this past sunday three firefighters were able to assist rescue stranded boater and his two children after their boat capsized. we know the cause of monday's fire at a sunny vale

apartment complex that left 40 people homeless. investigators now say it was started accidentally by a resident who fell asleep while preparing a meal. that man did suffer some burns to his hands and face. the fire also caused $80,000 worth of damage to the building. injured giants fan bryan stow is making some progress in his recovery. >> he's began to spontaneously open his eyes. he started to have some movement of his left arm. and he is intermittently and i want to again focus on intermittently been able to follow some simple commands. >> doctors at san francisco general hospital have upgraded his condition from critical to serious. but they still say he's not out of the woods yet. stow suffered severe head trauma when he was badly beaten outside dodgers stadium in march. in a few months, surgeons plan to replace the section of his skull that they had to remove in order to accommodate the brain swelling. a bomb shell statement in

the casey anthony case. a lawyer for casey anthony's parents tells cnn they do not believe their daughter is innocent. anthony is the florida mother accused of killing her 2-year- old daughter caylee. george and cindy casey say they love their daughter and they don't want her to get the death penalty. anthony's trial resumes today in orlando. the twin brothers who sued the founder of facebook have decided to end their legal action against mark zuckerberg. they originally sued him saying he stole their idea that led to facebook. that led to a $65 million settlement which they appealed saying zuckerberg duped them about the value of the company. the value of the settlement has grown to $200 million because of an increase in the stock value. well, there's now a public list of california's biggest tax cheaters. the state released the list of the people and companies who owe the most in unpaid taxes. they include a san ramon based

mtv star ryan dunn had a blood alcohol level twice the legal limit when he crashed his pour you shall. that's according to a toxicology report. he and a passenger were killed in monday's fiery crash in pennsylvania. police say he was driving as fast as 140 miles an hour. hours before the crash he tweeted a photo from a bar of him, his passenger and another man drinking. friends and family of ryan gathered for a private memorial in west chester, pennsylvania, yesterday. a public funeral is planned for later in the week. the controversial westboro baptist church announced it will protest any public memorial for dunn. they have also picketed outside military funerals claiming the deaths are god's punishment for

the nation's acceptance of homosexuality. san francisco police still searching for suspects in the homicide along the marina. investigators found his body floating in the water tuesday morning. now police suspect the killing was an isolated incident. the victim's former girlfriend says he came to san francisco from washington state last year looking for a fresh start in the bay area. apple plans to introduce a new iphone in september. that's according to two separate reports. both say the iphone 5 will have a more advanced camera and a stronger chip for processing data. apple has not kept pace with google and the new phone is expected to help apple cut into the share of android base phones sold. not commenting about the product. wireless users would have more information about down load speeds, coverage areas and rate

plans under a new federal law under consideration. peninsula congresswoman wrote the bill says the wireless industry has invested billions of dollars to upgrade service, but the public deserves to know the truth about what it will get for its money. consumer groups back the bill but most wireless companies oppose it. later this morning pleasanton's castle wood country club will host their biggest tournament of the year. at the same time a group of locked out club workers plan to hold a protest. show you video from february of 2010 when the lockout began. the club wants workers to pay 50% of their health care costs. but the 61 workers including cooks, servers and janitors say that's not affordable for them. all right. it's coming up on 5:00. go back over to sal. any problems for the commute, sal? not any major problems yet if i can speak this morning, pam. traffic is actually doing pretty well on 880 north and southbound passing the coliseum. also this morning we're looking at the bay bridge toll plaza.

that traffic is light coming into the toll plaza area. no problems on the upper deck. and san francisco northbound 101 traffic looks good approaching downtown san francisco. now let's go to steve. sal, thank you, sir. well, back on tuesday, two days ago, a high pressure was here. it was the hottest day. really didn't have a howling offshore wind but a component of a northerly breeze that took care of all the fog and temperatures inland soared more so than the coast which is actually kind of comfortable. yesterday everything started to turn around. now it's more of an on shore westerly wind. the direction the wind is coming from. cooling continues. combination of low clouds, fog, sun and also wind as temperatures inland settle down into the 80s. they'll be in the 60s on the coast. look how that system moves into the north chewing up that fog north of the golden gate. it's a cooler air mass. a lot of 50s instead of the 60s that we've had. temperatures are really dropping. step outside you can feel it. big difference between today and what we had 48 hours ago.

west-southwest at fairfield. southwest napa. so from sfo, san pablo bay, strait and delta sacramento tall # talking about a delta breeze making it. if they're talking about it you know it makes iterator far inland. the system moving into alaska is now moving into the pacific northwest. this system will drag across northern california might produce puffy clouds. not expecting any rain out of it. it is the source of cooler air. fog, sun, breezy, cooler today. fog mainly south. but 50s, 60s and 70s now are areas that were 100 degrees two days ago will now be closer to 80. it looks like we'll continue this right into saturday and sunday. maybe a little warmer on monday but no sign of anymore big time heat. okay. a new lawsuit in connection to the shooting death of oscar grant. it claims the oakland fire department could have saved his life. but the department has some very interesting comments about that accusation. and barry bonds is due back in court today. the decision expected that
