people marched here. they will be the first in line today when the city council chambers opens their doors. they also want to be the first to tell the mayor and the city council not to go too far with some of those austerity measures they are considering taken. some city workers oppose the lank in the mayor's proposal. if that is approved, they would be able to limit pension benefit -- benefits to the city workers. the mayor says five unions have already negotiated and are negotiating with the city but another six are not. >> we have other unions, our largest union believes the problem is imaginary and they don't want to engage to try to

find a solution. we have serious problems. we just laid off a couple of hundred of their neighbors. >> we're under a contract presently that -- if he em posing what -- imposes what he is imposing, that's breaking the contract. >> reporter: the mayor said he would not be taken away collective bargaining. he would not be -- this is the next generation bay area. they marched, the zombies, saying they are the working dead. they say some of the austerity measures would essentially put working people in a difficult situation. now, part of what the changes they are discussing at the city council mean if put on the ballot measure, limiting the cost of what the city puts in the pension benefits so the cost doesn't go so high in the

future. kraig debro, ktvu channel 2 news. rich month police are busy this -- rich richmond police are busy after a violent night. police say last night a young woman stabbed her 55-year-old father after an argument. about two hours earlier, officers responded to reports after shooting. one person -- one person was taken to the hospital and then after 3:00 this morning, someone shot a 22-year-old man at south 5th. the victim is in the hospital in critical condition. need to tell you about a tragic ending to a honeymoon. family and friends rallying to help an injured man. look. this is the wetting website -- wedding website for a couple of. they near sacramento. on the last day on their honeymoon in the bahamas, they

went parasailing. the equipment snapped and one of them was taken to the hospital. we're getting a look now -- take a look. this is the crash site this morning. new video taken just a short time ago. newschopper2 flew over it. three men were on board, they -- they were actually able to climb out on their own. one of them has back pains and taken to a local hospital. it appears that the plane lost power but this accident is still under investigation. it is 7:04. today, the house will vote on two competing measures dealing with the u.s. military role in libya. one measure gives president obama authority to continue the

mission in libya. while the other mission cuts off authority. we'll -- we'll go live to washington, d.c. about why some members want to punish the present. and fire rescue workers are still on the scene in miami after a worker is's been stuck on scaffolding. this all happened outside a condo building on biscayne boulevard. crews, as you can see, successfully saved the man, but it's still not clear how he got stuck on the scaffolding. one week from today, all california homeowners with attached garages or appliances that burn gas, coal or wood must have carbon monoxide detecters. some bay area hardware stores

say they've seen a steady increase in these devices being purchased. experts say there are 30 to 40 accidental carbon monoxide poisoning deaths each other in california. 7:05. two new parking lots are opening today at san jose airport. in fact, this is a live picture of the airport. those two lots will be near terminal b. they will create more than 1500 new parking spaces. it's all part of an $8.8 million makeover. it will divide the airport parking into hourly, daily and economy parking. you drivers will pay as little as $2 as 30 minutes and up to $30 for a whole day. you will see lower property tax bills. that's because several homes and businesses and buildings have dropped in value, but there is some good news here.

the assessors say other homeowners will see other hire property tax bills and that means the county's real estate market may be rebounding. county assessors say homeowners will get their notices about the assessments in about a week. 7:06. nascar is back. 100,000 racing finances -- racing fans are expected to appear at the event this year. claudine wong is live with more. >> reporter: we're in the garage area. i've been in here before. it really is just -- it's an amazing place. this is where they get all of the vehicles ready. very few people are allowed behind. this is the cars you are gonna see. nascar fans come from all over to see this. this is a full day. they will be doing qualifying.

you will have qualifying races for tomorrow's races which is is a 64-lap race. the thunder valley casino race. so a big event. nascar really huge in this area for this weekend. this is the biggest weekend for infineon. this is nascar's only northern california stop. so a lot of people come to see this get underway. the track goes hot at 8:00. you have the support staff behind these vehicles that are getting this underway. it's really remarkable. we should mention, this year, infineon saying, look, for the first time we're seeing corporate sponsors backed up, so expect thousands and thousands of people out here in sonoma for this race. earlier on the morning news, we told you about a special program.

funding for u.s. operations in libya. alison burns is live in our washington, d.c. bureau with the last ditch appeal -- with the last-ditch appeal by the obama administration to keep congress out of it. >> reporter: that's right. the u.s. house is actually taking two big votes taught. the first one this -- today. the first one is whether to authorize the war in libya. these are competing resolutions because the second one is whether to cut funding for u.s. funding there. bay area democrats are among those leading the debate this morning. john garamendi is endorsing president obama's decision to commit u.s. forces in libya. but he says the president should have gotten authorization from congress and he wants the involvement to end in six months. >> the obligation, or the rights or the necessary to defend is very important. that's why we're there. we need to provide the president with the necessary powers to carry out that obligation in a very limited

the council also says they won't enforce because pg&e is developing a nontransmitting version of the smart meter. well, this morning, president obama is visiting a robotics lab in pittsburgh. scientists there have created robots there to mow lawns, even scrape off paint. while president obama is there, he will talk about robotics and other technologies as a way to increase manufacturing jobs in the u.s. we'll bring you full coverage of his remarks later this morning once he begins his speech there. lawmakers and the house of representatives just passed a new bill to change long- standing laws on how patents are awarded. this new legislation would grant a patent to the first person to file a application not to the original inventer. it's become harder to determine who first invented a product.

the business community is enforcing this change. the senate approved a similar bill in march. 7:19. in a few hours, the san francisco naacp will hold a news conference over what they say was racial profiling by u.s. airways. last week, college football player deshaun harmen was arrested after he refused a request to pull of his sagging pants. days later, a another man was allowed -- another man was allowed to wear this outfit. the man told "the chronicle" he regularly flies the airline and wears these clothes to make flying fun. he also believes the other incident is not racial profiling. the national academy of

calls a vicious individual. he and his girlfriend, catherine greig, were arrested. they have been on the run for ten years. he was hiding hiding in plain sight in santa monica, living a few blocks from the beach. agents found $800,000 cash in the apartment, fake i.d.s and 30 guns hidden in hollowed-out books. yesterday, as he appeared before a judge, he appeared cool and relax. he's charged with murder, attempted murder, evidence tampering, potential of machine guns, and when questioned by the judge, his answers were short and simple. there's no bail for bulger. he's expected to be extradited to boston this moving. his girlfriend, catherine greig, was ordered to go back to face charges for harboring a fugitive. with his captive, a lot of boston officials are worried

adirector. >> reporter: good morning. >> welcome to pixar! >> reporter: thank you. thank you. there's crew jackets on the guys around. you have a big event. i know a lot of people are excited about the movie. what are you mostly excited about? >> i'm most excited about finally getting "cars ii" which we've been working on for three years, out to the world. we made this movie for audiences of all ages. this is a really fun movie. i've had a blast making it. and i believe if you are having fun while you make the film it will appear on the screen. >> reporter: you guys certainly look like you have fun around here. >> absolutely. >> reporter: i was looking at the race themes. they look incredible. tell me -- how has technology changed even better from the first part. well, "cars ii" they go around

the world on this world grand prix. so the scope of this film is ten times better than any film pixar has made. when they go to tokyo, it's not just one street in tokyo, it's tokyo. and what's fun about it. it's a car version of london, paris, italy. and so the technology that it document to create that much detail in that amount of time was a lot of new software. also don't be late because there's a really fun action spy opening to the movie. it's set out in the ocean. the water is brand-new technology. it's the best computer animated caughter -- water that i've ever seen. it's amazing. you are talking about the technology. you guys do a lot of drawing. but also the behind the-scenes -- behind the scenes -- i've

done some voiceover work. people i don't think realize how much time is spent at the microphone. how much time do you spend at the microphone? >> we always record the dialogue before we do the animation. we want to be inspired. in animation we're making the movie frame by frame by frame. in the reporting studio, we get brilliant actors who can make the part and kind of do their ad-libbing. for larry the cable guy and -- probably about ten over the two and a half year period. every couple of months we'll have another recording session. we'll try something out and then we'll change it and tweak it because the story -- we don't just write the script and make that fill. the story development process lasts a long time. and we're always improving the story because the story is the

most important thing for the films. >> we want to tell people that lightning mcqueen, nadar -- and the new character all at the san jose tech museum tomorrow. these guys make a tour around the world? >> yeah. they are traveling all over the country. we happen to have them -- they just came by for the opening. >> reporter: and the remote- controlled cars -- >> yeah, these are cool. they have a golf cart engine in them. the guys have like a remote- controlled car. >> reporter: a lot of toys. good luck to you.
