long. the same sex marriage law goes into effect next month. now republican presidential candidate newt gringrich also saying he's disappointed about new york's same sex marriage law. gringrich says passing the law shows the nation is "drifting into a terrible muddle." he says the nation should focus on defending the federal defensive marriage act which defines marriage as being between a man and a woman. in february the obama administration announced it would no longer uphold that law. well, there was a lot to celebrate at this year's san francisco pride parade. the festivities got off to a roaring start yesterday with the lesbian group called dikes on bikes leading the way. thousands of people lined market street to watch the procession of floats, costumes and dancers. new york's legalization of gay marriage added to the excitement. we are following developing news from los angeles. the dodgers have filed for

6:29 am
6:30 am
opening the bell live there this morning. 6:30. looking live in new york. looks like we could have a mixed opening. hard to say right now. you can see on the lower part of your screen little up, little down. we did have some disappointing news coming in on the economy this morning. consumer spending way down in may. and a lot of that has to do with the high price of gas. a lot of us spending certainly more money on gas so we haveless money to spend elsewhere in the economy. it comes at the same time that incomes went up though.
6:31 am
so that means more people put some money into savings which is a little bit of good news this morning. we'll keep watching the numbers. we will smile and say good morning to you. thank you for joining us here on the ktvu morning news. i'm dave clark. good morning. i'm pam cook. time now 6:30. we have developing news. the los angeles dodgers just filed for bankruptcy protection. there's the team owner there. all this comes just a couple days before the dodgers are required to meet their payroll. and the dodgers owe plenty of people plenty of money. even players no longer on the team. the dodgers owe manny ramirez $20 million and he's retired. they have been under financial ruins under the new ownership of frank and his wife. at the same time frank is going through a messy costly divorce. our time is now 6:31. and right now giants fan bryan stow who is badly beaten remains in a coma at san francisco general hospital.

6:33 am
the man seen here in this dodgers jersey however is not the man los angeles police arrested for stow's beating. the person police did arrest is 31-year-old giovanni ramirez. ramirez's attorney has said repeatedly police have the wrong man and ramirez wasn't even at the stadium the day stow was beaten. los angeles police chief says he's confident that his officers have the right person that ramirez is one of the two people responsible for stow's beating. i checked in with los angeles police again just 15 minutes ago. i tried reaching him shortly after 5:00 this morning. talked to an officer who says as far as he knows investigators center not had a chance to get a copy of the video and view it closely yet. so fornow los angeles p. account is not able to comment on the new video. meantime here at san francisco general hospital bryan stow remains hospitalized. his condition upgraded last week from critical to stable. and according to spokesperson there's a possibility we could get an update on stow's condition some time this week. live in san francisco, allie
