>> reporter: while stow is moving forward slowly at least he's moving forward say doctors. there is a budget breakthrough in sacramento tonight. governor jerry brown and democratic leaders look at a plan that they say can pass without a single republican vote. the governor put off his proposal for a special election this year to ask voters to extend temporary tax hikes. instead he announced a bill that makes more deep cuts to programs. >> we've made some very tough cuts in this budget. it's 650 million to the university, 650 million to cal state. significant cuts, hundreds of millions to the judiciary and all along the line. >> the plan lying on an assumption that the extra

revenue will climb. if that extra revenue fails to materialize, the debt will climb. democrats say they want to vote on this new budget tomorrow. she is 90 years old and could be charged with vehicle manslaughter following an accident at a san jose nursing home over the weekend. ktvu's christien kafton spent the day looking at people who work in that home on how this case is perceiving. >> reporter: late this afternoon i spoke with a staffer who came in crashing through this wall. you can see a lot of this damage has already been repaired. that staffer tells me that the driver says that she has already surrendered her driver's license. meanwhile investigators have been busy looking into this case. saturday morning, a 90-year-old woman who was a visitor to amber wood gardens accelerated

into a packed recreation room. 88-year-old ester bocanegra and another woman died. police are working out if this was innocence or an accident. >> at this time of the game, what the investigators have probably found is that it was the latter of the two. >> reporter: the driver has already submitted to a blood test to see if anything including prescription medications may have impaired her driving abilities. if investigators find she was negligent, she could face misdemeanor and even criminal charges. the families of the victims visited amber wood gardens today asking if anyone could have been done to make the facilities safer. >> i don't have the words to

express how sad it is. but in fact, you can't protect against every incident. >> reporter: coming back to our live shot. you can still see some of the damage walkers and wheelchairs left over from saturday's accident. some of the patients who were injured and hospitalized are now back here at the nursing home. christien kafton, ktvu. we now know the names of the truck driver and two of the passengers killed in last friday's collision involving an amtrak train headed to the bay area. the nevada highway patrol says 43-year-old lawrence valli from nevada was the person driving the truck. 58-year-old francis knox and her daughter carly were from nebraska. at least eight people were killed. a conductor with family in concord was among those killed. bus service back on schedule tonight. a woman was killed around 12:45

in an apparent suicide. trains were able to pass through a station but were not able to stop there as authorities searched the scene. state senator leland yee says he is disappointed but not deterred against a court ordered vote banning the sale or rental of video games to children. >> the u.s. supreme court has decided that it's going to side with corporate america and wal- mart against our children. >> the law written by the san francisco senator fines stores $100,000 for selling violent video games. he says he may propose a new version of the law that might stand up to a first amendment challenge. the worldwide diabetes epidemic just got even more serious. 10%over adults worldwide now

persons who shot and wounded two paragrin falcons. a bird was found with pellet wounds. the bird are recovering from their injuries. shooting a falcon is a violation of both federal and state laws. there is at least $1,000 reward with information leading to an arrest. an effort to combat homelessness is under way tonight. volunteers gathered early this morning at the west gate church in san jose before heading out to place where is the homeless congregate. the goal of the housing 1,000 campaign is to help 1,000 people find a home over the next two years. organizers say the first step is to find out how many people are living out on the streets and then identify those with the greatest need. >> down the road once we collect all this information, we can really kind of lobby for what services people need out here and kind of expedite the process for everyone.

>> the survey will continue through wednesday. san francisco's famous california cable car line is back on track tonight. the line was shut down for six months so key components of the cable car system could be replaced. it's part of the improvements being made to california street between drum and van nuys. the san francisco municipal transportation agency says signs and curbs were also repaired during that effort. gsb capital corral paid $6.6 million for 225,000 shares for facebook. at that rate facebook is worth $70 billion. the website is scheduled to go public soon but an exact date has not been set. french banks agreed to cut a deal with greece to try to avoid a financial melt down. that encouraged trading today, but here in the u.s. consumer

to build the main cable of suspension bridge. >> reporter: the two cat walks on this side will be joined by two more on the other side of the tower. >> we can begin putting in the cable former and tram way system. so basically what we do is we construct a giant ski lift above the tram way that's going to be pulling these individual strands across and putting them into position. >> reporter: now the final cable will be made up of 17,000 of these individual wires each more than a mile long. and when it's done, it'll be one massive cable more than 2.5 feet wide. and it will not have a single splice throughout it's entire length. >> but that can't be done until workers have easy midair access. that will hold the bridge together and give it its strength. workers will have to be tied to the cat walk to prevent a deadly slip or fall. >> they are long, they are steep. the most steep angle we have is

waterloo. it was the serial killer robert wayne who lived near waterloo. the other six candidates trailed in the single digits. a fire is threatening the nation's nuclear lab in new mexico. the fire started south of the los alamos nuclear lab and destroyed 30 structures. officials closed the labs as the flamed came close to the lab. the fire danger $30 million in damage destroying hundreds of homes. and in arizona, the largest fire is now 82% contained. the wallow fire has burned 138,000 acres in the northeast part of the state. it started at the end of last month. investigators think it was caused by a campfire. and you tell me what's wrong with this picture when it comes up. you're not supposed to see

rainfall as you get into late june, early july. there you go offshore. live storm tracker 2 picking up returns. the showers are in the bay area forecast as we roll into your tuesday. here is the weather system as it stands. you can see it backing up a little bit. looks like march to me. this does not look like this time of year. the systems main impact will be north of the fremont line, redwood city line. redwood you might get a sprinkle or two. there's just not a lot of rain heading that far south. the heaviest rain will be north bay, half inch, some models suggest close to an inch. i would say closer to a half inch. you're going to see that half inch inch. not a lot of wind with this right away. once this blows through on wednesday mid-morning when it's out of here. things warm up really quick. so the system comes in,
