4:35 am
we asked people here in the bay area their reaction to the drop. >> i like it. any money we can save right now or have, i like it. >> i'll spend more. but at the same time i'm kind of torn because the state's going to bank less. >> counties and cities can add onto that state sales tax rate. so it does vary from place to place. the drop in the rate will be the most noticeable for big ticket items such as cars. well, the 4th of july is less than a week away. just a few days away. and tonight the san jose police and fire departments are cracking down on fireworks safety. right now fireworks can be bought and used only in 11 cities in the bay area in santa cruz county. tonight at 6:00 at city hall san jose police and fire will discuss the proper use of legal fireworks. they will also be on patrol from 3:00 p.m. july 4th to 1:00 a.m. the next day citing people for illegal fireworks. now, here's where you can

4:38 am
the racial and environmental justice group called power is posing the question. riders will cast their ballots into large clear containers at the corner of mission and geneva. power members say rising bus fares are hurting the poor and eliminating fares would get more people out of their cars. 4:37. speaking of cars, let's check in on the roads. sal is here. hi, sal. pam, this traffic report is free. >> oh, that's true. good. good news. >> yes, and dave i have my cough drops. dave is right here and he gives me a cough drop every day. thank you, dave. thank you. let's go and take a look at the commute. traffic moving well on 80 westbound as you head out to the macarthur maze at no major problems this morning. also we're looking at the commute here on the westbound bay bridge approach now still a little bit wet from yesterday. that's fine january day we had. traffic is moving along very nicely. and this morning's commute on 280 northbound is also looking good and at the speed limit all
