as we look at highway 4 traffic is off to a nice start here. it should stay this way. i want to remind you will see more chp officers around this weekend this last day of the weekend for the maximum enforcement period. the morning commute looks good if you are driving on interstate 880 north and southbound here right past the oakland coliseum. if you are driving on 280 northbound, it's nice and light. keep your speeds down if you have to drive this morning. it would be terrible if you got a ticket. 4:30 let's go back to claudine. this morning the investigation continues into a deadly police shooting. ktvu tara moriarty is getting new information about exactly what happened during last nights deadly confrontation. >> reporter: bart police are releasing more information. more details about exactly what went down here last night. what we do know is one man is dead after two bart police officers shot and killed him

here hat the civic center station plaza some time after 9:30. we have video from last night of that man being rushed to the hospital. 15 minutes later he was then pronounced dead within an hour. now the initial call came in around 9:30. authorities say the suspect was on the stations platform. he appeared intoxicated and was stumbling and wobbling around. joining me live is dan hearth wick to fill in details for us. tell me what you know. >> reporter: at 9:34 bart dispatch received a call from bart central reporting a wobbly unstable man. at 9:45 two bart police officers riding trains in the downtown area arrived at the same station. contacted subject that we believe was reported to be the wobbly intoxicated male. within a minutes time the next transmission was shots fired. the suspect was on the ground

was down. officers at this time were not injured. there were no injuries reported to the officers. soon afterwards they discovered broken glass on the platform. one of the officer had hards of glass on the platform. the suspect was moved to the hospital. the san francisco pd and bart pd are doing a parallel investigation. that will be ongoing. when more comes in we will let you know. >> reporter: we have no idea if that wobbly man was threatening anyone else on the platform? >> at this time we have two to three credible witnesses at the scene. once we have those people interviewed, whether have that information. >> reporter: thank you so much for joining us live. now bart's chief actually is going to be holding a press conference later this morning

at 10:30 at bart head quarters. we will be there and keep you posted throughout the morning. live in san francisco i'm tara moriarty ktvu channel 2 news. investigators in the richmond area are busy after an extreme violent night. at least six people were shot at four different scenes. all four people are dead. the latest shooting happened just before 11:30 last night on first and mcdonald in richmond. they found two people shot inside a car. a 27-year-old man died and the other person is at the hospital. minutes earlier richmond police responded to center street and south 31st. that is where they found a 19- year-old man dead inside of a car. after an apparent shooting. about a half hour earlier at 10:40 deputies respond to unincorporated north richmond yeah. that is where they found two

people shot. richmond police responded to ohio and south presidentth. they found one person injured after some kind of gun battle there. it's not clear if these four shootings are related. a developing story to report off the coast of mexico baja, california. mexican authorities say 11 people are missing after a tourist boat capsized. it got caught in electrical storm. 44 people including 27 americans were on board. the u.s. coast guard reports one person has died. mexican authorities say there are no confirmed deaths. overnight a small plane was removed from interstate 280 in wood side. the plane clipped a car that landed in the northbound lanes near farm hill boulevard around 7:00 last night. neither the pilot nor the woman driving the car was hurt. the cars rear window was

smashed. they had just taken off from san carlos airport. highway patrol officers say this could have been a disaster. >> this could have been a lot worse. the fact that everybody was okay. there were no injuries. and we are grateful the number of vehicles and people that traversed this freeway. >> sources tell ktvu the 35- year-old plane had just gotten a brand new engine and was on a test flight when that incident occurred. salvage crews have pulled out a plane in richmond bay. a wake from a nearby ferry washed over him and filled the cockpit with water. the pilot and his passengerred were rescued by nearby boaters. south san francisco fire investigators are trying to figure out if fire works sparked a huge plane that torched dozens of cell phones. it shows the fire and dark

smoke. this happen yesterday north of sfo in an overflow parking garage. 45 rental cars burned. one woman tried to capture the fire on her own camera and describes the chaotic scene. >> planes are getting crazy. i was thinking i should get going. there are moving around. there will cars that get to explode or whatever they do when they get on fire. >> the flames reignited hours after the initial fire started. firefighters have been looking for fire works. crews said a gust of winds pushed flames closer to home. a fence behind the duplex burned. >> the fire busted through the fence right there.

the guy right here that lives next door he ran out with his water hose and tried to save the fence. it wasn't enough water pressure. >> the cause of the fire is still under investigation but they heard fire crackers and saw children in the area. this should be an unusually good near for jeans' fire works show. thousands of people are expect expected to gravel urn crew sighs. this morning 2,000 fire works will explode overhead during this 20 minute show. anyone that is suggesting that wants to go to that fire works show take public transportation. several bay area cities celebrate with a parade. people have had their places along that route steaked out for days. the east bay held its kitty pa raid starting at 9:00 a.m.. the regular parade starts at

10:00 a.m. and san jose rose white and blue parade is at 10:00 a.m.. that is followed by a company picnic. we do have an interactive map of all of them as well as all of the fire works show around the bay area. the chp will continue their holiday weekend crack down on drunk drivers. 160 people in the bay area had been arrested for driving under the influence. that is up from last year. the numbers are also up statewide with 194 drivers arrested. that maximum enforcement period runs until midnight. the chp is investigating whether alcohol was a factor in a fatal crash that shut down all lanes early yesterday morning. two people were hurt. the witnesses say the driver of the other cars ran away from

west wind. fog will take another day or two before inland areas calm down. heat advisory has been canceled. 50s and 60s. a little bit of a south wind right there. he had a west wind of 25. it will start to pick up high -- maybe a little cooler by that coast with that west win. temperatures will be way awest virginia average. but maybe upper 60s low to mid 70s closer to it. all right time now 4:40. dozens of people are without power this morning in livermore. pg&e crews have been working for hours to restore power. the outage happened at 7:15 last night. at one time some 4300 homes did not have electricity. they cut the number by more than half in three hours.

good morning, skies are clear. a little cooler by the coast. it will still be warm to hot inland. officials say he shot and killed four fellow marines and wounded one other. it happened on the yellow sea island base near the countries border in north korea. in memphis, tennessee a police officer is dead after responding to a dispute call. the gunman killed patrol officer timothy warren and a civilian. police have arrested the suspect but have not identified him. >> it's obviously a very tragic situation. any time an officer is placed in harms way and is harmed it's tragic. >> a hotel guest that bumped

into the suspect said he seemed off like he was out of it. authorities say police responded to two separate disturbance calls involving the suspect. there is no holiday for the jury in the casey anthony murder trial. they are expected to begin deliberations today. the defense and prosecution began their closing arguments yesterday and they are expected to wrap up this morning. the lead defense attorney insists the death of anthony's two-year-old daughter caylee was a quote accident that snowballed out of control. prosecutors say caylee was suffocated with duct tape. >> she took her child, she took her life, and he put her in the trunk and forgot about her. >> they will ask you to see things that are not there. they will ask you to imagine fictional science. >> the trial has been under way

for six weeks. if convicted of mist degree murder casey anthony could face the death penalty. a four-year-old girl drowned at lake. divers found her body 70 feet from the shore yesterday. her family had reported her missing. prompting a massive land water and air search. more than 50 people, boats, police dogs, and chp helicopter took part. los alamos is filling back in with people after they lifted the evacuation order. it's almost 20% contained. it started a a tree fell on two power lines eight days ago. some 12,000 people have been out of their home a week. >> it's great to be home. >> every day we were wonnerring if this is this the day we will come home? >> there is no threat the

a recent tragedy. five weeks ago police sergeant brian carter died after a long battle with blood cancer. ktvu spoke to him during a fundraiser last summer. at that time he had a brave message for others. >> any message i can say is go out there and try to be a donor. >> now someone is trying to take advantage of his death by calling for donations in his name. there is a new effort to find leads in the unsolved killing of a san mateo restaurant owner three years ago. sgt. nors say someone struck dug castillo in the head. now tomorrow would have been cast tell lows 40s birthday. the restaurant is donating 25% of its profits to the reward fund for tips leading to his killers arrest.

if your fourth of july celebration will take you out oven the water, the coast guard has a few friendly reminders. they are asking anyone operating a boat today to stay sober. boating while intoxicated is a crime. you should also have life jackets on your boat. expect random spot checking by the coast guard and local law enforcement. that will be out on the water making sure boats have the proper safety equipment bart and san francisco muni are on sunday's schedule. muni will have extra service for that fire works display

fog coming down the coast. maybe it will play in the coastal forecast. whatever is there will be very, very shallow. it is on the way. high pressure expect for some afternoon thundershowers on the lead side of the sierra there is not much going on. it is a little cooler. the heat advisory has opinion canceled. the west, northwest wind is showing up if that is a sign of cooler weather on the way. experience tells me temperatures they tend to hold on for hot conditions for a couple days inland. even though the coast starts to cool down. it will be warm for some. very warm for others and hot. and temperatures near the coast though could be really tricky there if that west wind kicks in. i think it will be warm until at least noon and then the cooling will kick in for the coast. cooler for the coast and bay. i think everybody wednesday will carry that in for big drop in temps. time now 4:53. both bay area baseball teams

will host fourth of july game this afternoon. the a's face the seattle mariners. the giants will play the padres at 205. there are four giants on the national league all star team. those people are -- that team includes first time selection ryan vogelsong. he played in japan in the minor leagues before getting called up. closer brian wilson will join vogelsong. lincecum. matt dane also named to the roster. this is cane's second all star selection. and then on the american league side pitcher gio gonzalez will represent the oakland a's. the 82nd major league baseball game is july 24th.

in just a few hours, san jose's own joey chestnut will try to win his fourth straight fourth of july hot dog eating contest. last year he chowed down 54 hot dogs in ten minutes. tonight's competition begins at 9:00 a.m. and this year there is a separate event for women. hundreds of people will raise money in honor of a young child that died in his sleep. it is hailey's run for a reason. this is named for hailey tom she died in her sleep when she was 21 months old. it was classified as sudden unexplained death in childhood which effects children over a year old and more rare than sudden infant death syndrome. today is a five mile run and a two mile walk. the run for a reason is part of
