construction zone you might see some cones up. this is a look at downtown san jose that freeway is moving along nicely. let's go back to the desk. this morning the faa is investigating a terrifying plane crash in santa cruz county. a small plane nearly slammed into watsonville community hospital. it happened shortly after 7:30 last night. investigators say two people were killed when their small plane crashed into an empty hospital office building moments after taking off from the watsonville knew necessary fall air -- municipal airport. witnesses say the plane immediately nose dived. >> the plane crashed into a medical facility near the hospital. this is not associated with the hospital. i really want to make that clear that this does not effect any of the parents here at the facility. >> now no one on the ground was

hurt. it's still not clear why the plane went down. allie rasmus is getting new information from investigators and she is going to have an update from watsonville at 5:00 this morning. overnight oakland police were busy investigating four different shootings that happened within 90 minutes of each other. they all happened between 8:30 and 10:00 last night. in all, ten people injured. ktvu kraig debro joins us now from oakland with the details on what happened. good morning. >> reporter: good morning, pam. opd investigators should be still look into these cases as the last one happened at 10:00 last night. hopefully i get a chance to talk to somebody. the shooting happened in east oakland. and in a couple of these case there is are multiple victims. emts took two people to the highland hospital. police responded to the scene around 8:30 last night. a bullet grazed the third victim but that person didn't

need to see a doctor and didn't go to the hospital. another person was shot at 98th and bancroft. this shooting was reported around 9:45 last night. each victim has nonlife threatening injuries. 15 minutes earlier than that about a half mile away police say three people were shot. police are look for four or five suspects in that shooting. then around 10:00 last night 15 minutes later police say a person was shot at 71st and international. police did not say if there is a motive to any of these shootings. we do know there is no suspects. reporting live kraig debro. >> all of this violence comes as oakland gets ready to put more officers back on the street. stay with us here on ktvu channel 2 morning news coming up at 4:45 how the city is paying for those officers. a richmond manhole in connection with a deadly shooting is scheduled to be

areigned today. 21-year-old kendra davis is accused of shooting and killing a man outside of club suede last year. the city prompted the city to reexam regulations for nightclubs and how the clubs handle their security. a team of court appointed doctors has ruled gregory elarms is not competent to stand trial and should be sent to a mental hospital. alarms was a childhood friend of lewis who came to him for help. some of the fishermen are back home after that boating accident but their hearts are heavy. >> we are leaving friends behind in the church. we wanted to stay behind to find out if these were natural

conclusions. >> family and friends of seven missing fishermen got their first phone call from the u.s. coast guard. they were able to ask questions about the search. >> what we want to do is find out what is going to be the final word on a possible dive you know. is it possible. when it will be possible. >> the coast guard estimates that the sungen boat is -- sunken boat is about 200 feet under water but will not say if the dive will happen. they are searching along with three helicopters and three boats. that search will continue at least until saturday. cal train is investigating another fatality on its tracks. a person was hit and killed close to the churchill avenue crossing in palo alto just after 8:30 last night. cal train says that person was trespassing. the latest incident comes as the agency looks into installing cameras on its trains. that decision was put on hold

until they figure out if video recordings of fatality would be public record. the trucking company involved in the amtrak crash is now defending its safety record. a big rig driver for the john davis trucking company slammed into an amtrak train killing six people. the company says it's determined to find out why the driver ignored flashing lights and crossing gates. the trucking company said it was not at fault at two previous accidents cited in state safety records. in less than three hours the space shuttle atlantis is scheduled to take off and the crew is walking out to the shuttle right now. i want to take you there live as we are watching the astronauts this morning. unfortunately, weather has been the biggest question though about this launch. 70% chance that the launch will

be postponed. nasa is still planning for lift off at 8:26 our time. as you account see again we are looking live at kennedy space center as the astronauts board the shuttle that will take them over to the launch pad. nasa has not said when it will make a final decision on the launch. this is the final mission for a u.s. space shuttle. atlantis is scheduled to spend 12 days in space before coming home and eventually putting on display at kennedy space center. 4:37 is the time. so sal we will keep checking in on florida because there are a lot of people there to watch this. >> all right, pam, we will do that. good morning. the traffic is doing very well if you are driving anywhere in the bay area. it should be pretty good. but the fog may be an issue. this is a live look at the fog on the golden gate bridge. you can see traffic is moving

very nicely. just be careful if you are driving in southern marin or san francisco later on. also this morning's commute on the san mateo bridge looks pretty good getting out to the high-rise. not a lot of fog here. steve will kind of outline where the fog is but it might be a little dicey out there. if you are driving on the dumbarton bridge, traffic is okay. if you are driving through the south bay, we are off to a nice start off of 101 approaching the interchange. 280 looks good and so does 17. let's go to steve. sal. >> yes, sir. >> fog was worse yesterday than today. we still have some fog but it's getting chewed up. high pressure give you credit. it's definitely large and in charge. it's controlling three quarters of the country. it has been hanging out in the four corners and the western edge has given a lot.

stronger part of that system will be on sunday and monday. next week looks really cool. for today sunshine after that morning fog. it will be sunny and warm for many inland. still 90s even with a west wind. fog, sun on the coast. 60s and 70s coast and bay. upper 70s and 80s and then you find upper 80s and low to mid 90s inland. it looks like the trend is to bring temperature down. we will see a rapid increase in some of the low clouds. get a strong west wind by sunday and early next week. a brush fire burning in orange county could be fully contained sometime this morning. that fire started yesterday morning and spread within a matter of hours burning 400 acres. early in the day the flames did get close to cell phone and radio towers but no homes were threatened. the states public safety commission is adding nine people to its pipeline safety inspection team. the new hire brings the staff

to 1 -- to 18. the cpuc says it's carrying out reforms suggested by an independent panel which says the commission is under staffed. we are learning more about the man who died after falling out of the stands during last nights texas rangers oakland a's game. he has been identified as shannon stone. he was at the game while he fell when trying to catch a baseball. stone was conscious after the fall. the fire department officials say he went into full cardiac arrest open the way to the hospital. >> just as the ball hit his hand it threw him off balance. he went head first. it was not -- it looked awful. because you knew there was no way he was going to you know land on his feet. >> yesterday's fall comes just about a year after another man fell 30 feet during a rangers game. he survived. this is the second fatal fall

and stole her car. he later told police it was a first step on a cross country killing spree that would end with the assassination of the president. he was released from the south dakota prison. he said during his time there he built up anger about the economic policy. the tucson shooting rampage happened six months ago today. gun control advocates are pushing for gun safety laws. six people died. 13 others injured when jared loughner opened fire. since the shooting gun control advocates have been asking president obama to toughen gun safety laws. the white house says it's working on some new measures and will announce them in the next few weeks. a man wanted for killing seven people in michigan took his own life after an hours long standoff with police. officers say 34-year-old roger

danesler kill his victims. among the seven dead his exgirlfriend, his own daughter and another child. police say after a high-speed chase he went into another home and took three people hostage before killing himself. but the hostages were not hurt. investigators are still trying to determine a motive for the killing. the release date for casey anthony has been rescheduled for july 17th instead of july 13th as originally planned. a correction spokesman says the new date was based on a detail recalculation. he sentence the anthony to four years for lying to police about the death of her daughter caylee. but with time served and good behavior she has nine more days left to serve. the city of oakland is getting ready to bring back laid off police officers. now that includes requiring

every officer to contribute 9% of their pay to their pension. chief anthony bass says the savings will allow the city to bring back 22 officers that recently received pink slips. oakland has 200 fewer officers than it did two years ago. >> it's a drop in the bucket, but it's better to have it than not have it. we are happy we will get some back but that doesn't solve the overall problem of public safety. >> this comes days after chief bass announced a real organization that includes the elimination of the motorcycle traffic enforcement unit. that will save the department additional money. we have new information about the man shot and killed by bart police on sunday. the san francisco medical examiner says the man is 45- year-old charles hill. ktvu news obtained this photo of hill from the dmv. he had no home address. bart police say officers responded to reports of a drunk man on the platform at civic

the mission is still a go even though there is concern about the weather. lift off is scheduled for 8:26 our time. but we understand there is only about a 30% chance right now the shuttle will take off this morning because of weather. we will keep dipping in there live this morning to check in on the events there in florida. five teenagers now face murder charges in the death of a fairfield market owner. police arrested them yesterday nine days after the death of 70- year-old ho kim. investigators say the teenagers attacked kim with pepper spray and stole his cash register. the store owner managerred to call police before dying later that night. he died of heart problems directly tied to that pepper spray attack. a marin county judge has ordered an auditor to look into the personal finances of joseph

nee sew. 77-year-old reno man has backed off his earlier request to represent himself and now asking for legal help. prosecutors say the former photographer is worth $1 million and has enough cash to pay his own legal bills. san francisco civil grand juries new report on the central subway project says planners should go back to the drawing board. the current plan is to build a tunnel to take muni trains into china town. something that residence there have long wanted. but this report says the 1.7- mile subway would cost $1.5 billion. that works out to $176,000 per foot. they defend the project says it's on schedule and within its budget.

do that. this mornings not commute on westbound bay bridges looks light coming into san francisco. let's go to steve. thank you very much. we have a decrease in some of the fog this morning. there was some but there was more yesterday morning. less fog more sun. warm again for many today. but the weekend mostly sunny cooler and breezy. and next week looking much cooler as a strong low dips into the pacific knot west. the fog yesterday was all over the place. not now. look at how it goes down the coast. it's getting wiped out by a north wind that will be here today. tomorrow it will turn more westerly. the clouds are moving off toward the east. 50s and 60s. some 57s now at livermore. and i don't think they drop below 60 yesterday. 60 at fairfield. 55 san rafael. upper 60s at san jose. we do have one system moving in a stronger one will move into the pacific northwest.

i will give the them some credit. low 44. saturday sunny but a little cooler. breezy on sunday as the system moves into north of us. morning fog and warm. fog and sun on the coast. 60s and 7:s coast and bay. mid to upper 80s inland and few to low 90s. still is toasty readings but by tomorrow temperatures come down and we will carry that into sunday and early next week. the countdown is on to the launch of the final space shuttle. we are live in florida this morning for the latest on a possible delay of the mission and how local space fans here in the bay area are going to spend the morning. and the investigation continues into a deadly plane crash in watsonville that killed two people. why it could have been even worse.
