their friend batista. he had organized the trip and was last seen struggling with a life jacket. >> in they woke us up earlier, we would have all gotten out safe. >> reporter: instead chaos, with no distress call made, rescue came only after some survivors managed to swim out to shore. >> we spend hours out on the water just because of ignorance. >> reporter: there's anger toward a crew that seemed to care only for itselfs and concern for friends unaccounted for. >> we still hope. >> reporter: most of these men came home with literally the souvenir t-shirt on their back. their keys, their phones, money, i.d. all at the bottom of the sea along with thousands of dollars worth of fishing equipment

still they are thankful to be here. debra villalon, ktvu news. another bay area survivor of the fishing boat disaster arrived in gilroy this morning with an emotional plea for search teams in mexico. >> find the seven. they are all good people. >> reporter: lee ikogami would not talk specifically about the ordeal but he said just getting home was a struggle. the truck he and a friend were driving back in broke down south of the u.s. border forcing them to take a greyhound bus back to gilroy. family members of one of the missing men donald lee said today they had been speaking

with congresswoman jackie spears office to see if the search would continue. >> reporter: federal investigators arrived this morning own spent the morning inspecting the charred plane before going ahead with plans to send it to a near by facility. the plane went down, then witnesses say it crashed into a closed unoccupied medical building. on board the howton family of santa cruz. relatives confirm that 44-year- old pilot david, wife and

mother didi and son 12-year-old luke and 10-year-old ryan were on board the plane. >> everyone is in shock. everybody is processing it. but like i said they were holding on to some kind of hope that the boys weren't on the plane. but they were. >> witness ivan guerrero told us he felt anxious watching the plane burn. >> i felt anxious because i knew people were burning in there. all i could do was call 911. >> reporter: they will look at the plane, weather conditions and the pilot's expertise. >> we look at the pilot, his or her training, his or her experience, his or her experience in the aircraft type. we will talk to instructors and fellow pilots. investigators say they could have a preliminary report within 10 to 15 days but a final report could take any

where from nine months to a year. live in watsonville, robert handa, ktvu channel 2 news. oakland police are trying to determine if a serious of violent shootings overnight that injured six people are connected. three people were shot on east street near 89th avenue about 8:30 last night. just over an hour later, two people were wounded at 98th avenue and bancroft. a third shooting happened just minutes after that at 71st avenue and international boulevard. one person was shot there. no suspects have been arrested. the man accused of stealing a valuable picasso sketch was charged with grand theft today. 30-year-old mark lugo is accused of taking the original sketch tuesday from a gallery on geary street. prosecutors say lugo faces charges of second degree burglary and having stolen property. garrido was on parol for

the kidnapping and rape of a nevada woman when he and his wife kidnapped jaycee dugard. according to the confidencable report, home contacts were rare, frequent positive drug tests and submission of diluted urine samples were ignored. a report from a victim of a 1977 kidnapping and rape that she had seen garrido on the street in november of 1998 was dismissed by the probation officer as hysteria. you can read if entire report on ktvu.com. you click on the jaycee dugard tab. the family of stow have released his latest condition. the family revealed that stow is moving his legs a lot and opening his eyes.

right now the oakland a's are facing the rangers just a day after a fan fell to his death. players are wearing black ribbons on their uniform tonight and observed a moment of silence in arlington before the first pitch. new at 6:00, ktvu's ken pritchett is live at at at&t where people are questioning the traditional where players throw foul balls into the stands. >> reporter: it has happened a many parks. a fan falls from the stand resulting in injury or death. but what happened in texas is different. it started with an act of kindness by a player and ended by tragic results for a father as witnessed by his son. we will not show a video only this still frame of shannon stone falling 20 feet behind an outfield wall to the concrete below. he died at the hospital. his son was with him when he fell. >> it is one of the saddest

britain's prime minister has promised a full investigation. he was later hired by prime minister david cameron, revlations that reporters hacked into cell phones of victims prompted the shutdown of the paper this sunday. this is new video of the royal couple arriving at their first event, it's a technology summit in beverly hills. their weekend will include a polo match and a dinner by a british film maker. teens are learning new skills while making their neighborhoods more beautiful. a group of students started doing prep work for a mural. the homeowners have approved the project but the artists do get some creative license. >> once the kids start chiming in their own ideas, i want to

san francisco police held a graduation ceremony today for a new kind of law enforcement job. the first job of community police service aids finished their service of community service. the aids will not be sworn

police officers. they'll handle low priority calls. it is hoped they will free up sworn officers for higher priority work. >> to help to be out there in the forefront to help our fellow citizens. helping san francisco, that's what i'm all about. >> oakland firefighters have agreed to take a pay cut. the firefighters union voted 2- 1 in favor of a contract proposal to take a 9% pay cut for the next three years. they will also give up two vacation days in that time. the firefighters made the concession in exchange for a promise that there will be no more lay offs. new at 6:00, ktvu's david stevenson is live at the civic center where these solar and

wind powered street lights were taken down after they hit, i guess you could say a simple snag. >> reporter: one of san francisco's most prominent projects quietly disappeared from civic center plaza. four, 30-foot high civic lights were taken down tuesday and wednesday. four big planters now cover the tower's bases. the promise was clean green power for energy efficient led lights such as this. the problem turned out to be these bright green turbines. >> it takes a lot of wind to move those turbines. the mechanical moving parts of it make it much different than a solar installation. those were the goals that they were allowed to run seemlessly

without us locking in place and monitoring and testing. >> that plus a lack of wind meant the windmills didn't turn at all for the majority of the time that they were here. the city paid $12,500 for the four tours. they are now tours -- four towers. they are now sitting in a yard waiting to be returned to the company that built them. >> whatever we can get from the way of accountability, we will see that too. >> reporter: mayor lee says the latest experiment isn't at all a loss. >> some things will work and some things will not work the way we want them to. i think we are allowed to want to experiment. >> the new york company that sold san francisco the turbines told us they will be shipped to other cities that want to test their wind worthiness. in san francisco, david

stevenson ktvu channel 2 news. an unexpectedly weak jobs report shows hiring nearly at a standstill. the labor department says only 18,000 jobs were created in june. businesses added 57,000 the fewest in more than a year but governments cut 39,000 workers for a net gain of 18,000 over all. as a result, unemployment roeud from 9.1 to 9.2%. there is a warning tonight that california needs to take tough action to shore up its unemployment insurance fund. they encourage california double the funds, reduce benefits benefits. >> not just to pay the loan but to put us on track that we're building a reserve so this problem doesn't happen in the future. the federal government may help out by suspending interest

payments on that $10 million debt. the disappointing news caused stocks to drop. the dow was down 62 points, the nasdaq closed down just about 19 points. we've been talking about a cooling trend over the past few day, and our forecast pretty much right on track as we head into the week weekend. the fog right now concentrating on the shoreline. right around stinson beech. you can see the fog heading to the south closer to monterey break. a little bit of a break in the overcast. the low clouds will increase in coverage overnight. here we go, the highest for today as we compile the numbers. low 60s for the beaches. warmest location once again on the hot side in the low to mid- 90s out toward antioch and

livermore topped out right around 95 degrees. forecast headlines for tonight, we do have this areas of fog but still clear skies inland. more fog this weekend and into the extended forecast. partly cloudy skies and the cooling trend will continue. first thing tomorrow morning, the fog concentrating coast side. right around the bay and most of the bay area starting today, at least saturday morning, early tomorrow morning in the 50s. so the fog we've been talking a lot about this over the last few days. this system moves in from the north and that will reinforce the cooling trend. all weekend long right around the bay. we're not talking about that extreme heat anymore. inland spots approaching the low to mid-eight mid-80s. here is the forecast model. as we put this into motion, that cloud bank pulls back to near the shoreline but we could have some left over patches for the beaches even parts of san francisco for tomorrow

afternoon. everybody comes down a few degrees from today's highs. fairfield 83, oak land only in the upper 80s. your five day forecast, a little bit cooler. tuesday we could be talking about some drizzle at least near the immediate shoreline. julie and frank, most of the next week looks pretty cool. no real heat waves in sight. the san leandro medical center reached a milestone today. people were able to write their names and best wishes on the beams before it was set in

about 200 people gathered in oakland this morning to watch the final space shuttle launch. they watched from the science center as atlantis blasted into orbit from cape canaveral. rex welhite is one of the four astronauts on board. the new york mets in town to play the giants. >> yeah, could be a pretty good weekend for the giants and you know it's kind of strange they are in first place, they are 11 games over 500 yet this is underlying feeling that this team has got to do something. they have to make a trade because the offense has just been well weak. you know and it always seems like they come through however. like last night, elie whiteside knocked wasn't out. they seem to be managing as bruce bochy says maybe they don't need to make a trade after all. >> you're always looking to get
