looking live here at what appears to be the end of a high speed chase. good evening everyone. >> we have more on that chase. it happened this afternoon. in present hill and the further section is taylor and plent hill road. a major intersection there. news chopper 2 just got over the scene. this is the police activity that is still there. that mess on the roadway in the left side of the screen that is probably one of the -- where the impact happened. police officers began this chase in that city and we don't know why the vehicle was chased but we know it was some sort of drug crime related charges. officers found themselves in plent hill and this is where

the chase ended. the car crashed into at least four other vehicles. i just spoke with john sasaki, he was at the scene, he said there were multiple injuries a number of ambulances. from what he could see none of the injuries appeared to be major. he said the intersection was shut down but it appears that changed in the past few minutes. this is taylor and plent hill road. this is the end of a highpede police chase. there are a lot of police vehicles still there. i would probably say avoid this area if you could. we will bring you more information as we get it. to the jaycee dugard kidnapping. they tried to destroy some of the videotapes. ktvu's ken pritchett tells us why the prosecution is calling a decision unconscionable. >> reporter: in the last hour i

concluesed a interview with the district attorney who says he is talking about new information with the hopes of highlighting the massive problems that lead to the kidnap and captivity and in the hopes of changing the system. he released several documents and videos of the garridos. restoring acid burned videotapes. nancy garrido pretending to videotape phillip garrido. another video show as patrol agent inspecting the home. documents that were released show as patrol officer decided in 1988 that it was too much of a hassle to monitor phillip

garrido. a year later everything phillip garrido said one doctor said seemed to be an act. but he says the biggest problem was phillip garrido release in the first place after four separate rapes attributed to phillip garrido. he was sentenced to 50 years for one of the attacks. >> for someone like that to be released is unconscionable. the biggest short coming was his release in 1988. >> reporter: at 6:00 you will hear the words of phillip garrido and nancy garrido of a videotape they shot as they were stocking young girls and we will hear more from the patrol agents and their lack of action. ken pritchett, ktvu channel 2 news. for the second time in less than a week a man died while

vacationing in hawaii. paul tam-mai died on the big island. he was rockclimbing when a wave knocked him into the ocean. araphicue crew found his body. on saturday david pots died when a wave washed him up on maui. he fell 20 feet into a hole. he ignored signs warning people to stay back. in san francisco today funeral services held for the one passenger who was confirmed dead. ktvu's patty lee tells us what a survivor told the victim's family. >> reporter: leslie yee's life was remembered here in the city where he grew up and developed his passion for fishing.

significant cuts in spending and to dealing with our deficit and debt problems. >> the white house says the debt limit must be raised. the chairman of the federal reserve warned congress to raise the debt ceiling by august 2. >> soon after that date there would have to be significant cuts in social security, medicare, military pay or a combination to avoid borrowing more money. >> he said failure to raise the debt ceiling could trigger a government default, that would cast out on the reliability of the treasury and throw shock ways to the financial system. >> he also said the fed is capable of further stimulus if the economy gets worth. that led to a stock market rally this morning but then other remarks put a damper on

. the city counsel approved a day time curfew for kids who should be in school. police will warn minors the first time that they are caught

breaking the curfew but for the second offense the parents would be fined $100. third offense the fine goes up to $200 and after that it could go up to $500. according to the city the purpose of the curfew is to present day time crime, increase youth safety and keep kids in class. it's a city known as a quiet city. but police say bans of criminals are targeting homes and making death threats. a man hunt is underway. >> reporter: never ending. that's because police are dealing with more than just one crew of criminals. probably four. the burglaries are taking place all over the city, not just at homes here, but homes high up in the hills. >> reporter: the city of arenda

development plans. by a 5-1 vote the counsel agreed to enter into lease negotiations with joe montana's development group. that group wants to-built restaurants, hotel near the 49ers stadium. the counsel ignored a recommendation to open up the deal rather than deal exclusive with joe montana's team. a new public space called the pedestrian promenade. >> we provided a wider sidewalk for people to walk and also to stop and take a breather. a place to meet as well as a place to pass by. we have plantings at both ends. >> the project designer who landscaped the young museum led a tour of the promenade. lines two blocks of powell street and is meant to give pedestrians an oasis from san

say it's a one of a kind experience, living in the dorm. one university says some people will be out of luck. san jose state says this year's freshman class is so big there is not enough room for everyone. some students have to live in a hotel off campus? >> reporter: yeah. let's give you a look that dorms. you see the bricks and then that's joe west hall. the university tried to shoe horn as many students as possible and now they are looking off campterous housing. >> reporter: -- off campus housing. >> your application was completed after june 1 so i would consider looking at other housing options. >> reporter: she is worried. >> i don't know who i would get an apartment with. i don't have a car.

it would be really frustrating on top of -- my first year. the new year requiring all first year students from 30 miles away to live on campus and 4,000 incoming freshman stretched them beyond capacity. its goal is to offer a dorm room to all freshman. but it is telling returning students they may wind up in a hotel. >> we will insure it's within walking distance, we are working on matching the meal plans so they can eat close to home. >> reporter: they are still trying to find the hotel. the cost will be covered by the fees the students would have paid to live in the dorms. but it makes more sense to find their own apartments. >> i don't know how that will effect advertising. probably make people mad for people who like to stay on

amtrak is making a new safety statement in an effort to tell people to stay off the tracks. it is written there. if you see it and you are traveling you may want to take a minute and read the message. says stay alive, stay off the tracks, i pack a punch. 90 people died last year after being hit by a train. they tress passed or drove a vehicle into the path of an oncoming train. are of the planning work is halting on the high-speed rail project. the chief executive saying he is stopping it till leaders can find how many tracks to use. they are considering using two tracks. they originally planned for twenty four traction. the other says the two track system could minimize the
