morning in florida and joins us with a look at what nasa accomplished during the last 30 years and what is still ahead. jim, i have to is you right off the top can you lay out the mood there as soon as atlantis touched down this morning? >> reporter: good morning, mike. yeah, you know the mood really here the only word to describe it is bittersweet. people today still reveling in the sweet part. perfect launch two weeks ago. perfectly executed mission visit to the international space station, dropped off supplies, did a final space walk and this this morning's perfect landing here all the astronauts safe and sound back on earth. tomorrow unfortunately will come the bitter. 2100 people will get laid off tomorrow. ultimately 8,000 will lose their jobs. what the future for man space flight is still up in the air. we could have private companies getting involved, nasa's new program to get farther into space perhaps an asteroid perhaps one day to mars is out there. for the next few years at least it's really unclear what it's going to be like, mike.
6:37 am
>> jim, for you personally if you put the pen and paper down just being there the first shuttle went up in 1981 and here you are reporting in the year 2011 what was it like for you on a personal level watching that atlantis come down? >> reporter: just about one of the coolest assignments i've ever had. when i was a kid in the 1970s living near washington d.c., enterprise, the first shuttle flew over on the back of a 747 on a sunday morning. we all left church to come out and watch it fly over and made a huge impression on me. it was so futuristic and optimistic just this amazing thing. being able to watch the launch two weeks ago and the landing here the final one has been incredible. and i think a lot of people have taken this for granted. and now realizing it's the last one and really digging into it and paying more attention people are realizing what a fantastic program this has been what amazing work the astronauts and all the people at nasa have done here and makes it all the more difficult to fathom we don't have a replacement ready to go to take the place of shuttle right

right away. >> jim spellman live for us in florida. thanks for your time. >> could also mention as we go to sal this morning, sal, a lot of people, thousands of people without a job going out tomorrow for that. so really may be the sweet right now but it's going to be a very sad time out there. yeah. it was kind of cool to watch it earlier this morning touch down for the final time. as they said it was a bittersweet thing. let's go out and take a look at the commute now. right now there's more sweet than bitter out there if you are driving at the bay bridge toll plaza. does look pretty good. there are no major problems there. the traffic continues to move along very nicely as you head out towards the area. also the morning commute looks good on the san mateo bridge. that commute looks nice all the way out to the high-rise. looks like some low clouds have lifted. nicer to drive across that span. if you're driving in antioch traffic is moving well. 237 traffic is going to be okay crossing 880. now let's go to the antioch map
