the bomb squad was called out to a building on cato road near page avenue so they could investigate what looked like a pipe bomb. fremont police say the sill lin der was -- cylinder was wrapped in tape and placed on top of a transformer box. when the bomb squad arrive bed -- arrived, they discovered it was just a hoax. they stay was made to look like a pipe bomb. >> the fbi -- the fbi is searching for a man suspected of killing his elderly mother who may be hiding in the bay area. investigators say 55-year-old marshall goldberg took his mother from her oregon home two montes ago. he has ties to daly city as well as los angeles and north hollywood. authorities believe he may be hiding in one of those place. his mother, doris goldberg, 85 years old, is considered in

in 2009, it was 49. last year it was 59. fairfield police have arrested a 39-year-old man they say assaulted a 75-year-old mother last night choking her and holding a gun to her head. >> after the mother escaped to a neighbor's home, the s.w.a.t. team quickly surrounded her house. after they got a search warrant and arrest warrant they tried to make contact with the man. fine lip they broke into the house and -- finally, they broke into the house and found he was not there. officers took michael austin to a hospital around 7:30 this morning. he was booked into jail on charges of assault with intent to commit great bodily injury and police say he has a history of mental health issues and could be armed with a handgun. there's a new way for people to report information about homicide cases in oakland. the police department has set up an anonymous e-mail tipline.

a problem with a sprinker system caused some minor problem at terny nal 1 at sfo -- terminal 1 at sfo. it took a small army of people with vacuals to clean up ut -- vacuums to clean up the water. the stretch of highway 101 between capital expressway and the 280/680 interchange will be completely shut down just before midnight tonight. the road will reopen tomorrow morning at 5:30 a.m. the closure will be repeated for three nights with construction set to wrap up monday morning. crews are working to improve the -- improve the tullly road interchange. there's word that a cyclist hit by a truck in san francisco yesterday morning has sighed -- has died. the victim is nancy ho of san francisco. she was traveling east on

mission street and taking a left turn when she was hit. she was not wearing a helmet and stuffed a severe head injury -- suffered a severe head injury. police are reviewing the accident from a nearby surveillance camera. they say boat had the green light but ho was making an illegal turn. more people applied for unemployment benefits last week compared to the week before. it the number is up 10,000 and it's new evidence that layoffs are rising and the job market remains week. applications have topped 400,000 for 15 consecutive weeks. consumers are starting to pull back on spending as high unemployment, stagnant wages and increasing gas prices slow the economy. it was a horrifying scene in india when a leopard went into a village and mauled people.

snagged it and an animal control officer caught the bird and took for medical attention. the crews wouldn't be able to reveal work for three hours. >> as you can see, everything is at a standstill. >> reporter: so the workers wait, hoping the seagull is all right. in san francisco, tara tara moriarty, ktvu channel 2 news. p b.a.r.t. riders have spoken, and they prefer cleanliness over comfort. during the past 2 months -- two months, more than 2,000 passengers were asked to rate cleanliness and comfort. cleanliness came out on top, 6.29. comfort came in at 5.2. different seats will be part of the different lines set to roll in 2015.

a plan to raise new york's state flag in san francisco's castro district this weekend has hit a snag. the original idea was to fly the flag along the signature rainbow flag at harvey milk plaza. it's to celebrate the start of same-sex weddings in new york. but the examiner's reports the flag's gromith are incompatible with the flag poles. america's state parks organization is sponsoring a contest in partnership with sony to promote awareness. prices include -- prizes include sony stations, laptops. sony will donate $20 for every sale of the editing software. submission deadline is september 1st at. we'll post a -- september 1st, at -- we'll post a link at our

website, ktvu.com. some changes to our forecast for today as you can see looking out toward the bay. there's that fog bank near the golden gate bridge. the fog really cooling off the coastal spots but inland neighbors still on the warm side later on this afternoon. here is the view up above. you can see the fog hugging a good portion of the coastline. even a few patches like we showed you moving into san francisco bay. forecast story for tonight -- or for today is this, cooler temperatures today. tomorrow, more fog. the cooling will continue. the some morning fog it burning off. as far as current numbers, we still have some more numbers out there for the inland spots. fairfield at 83. livermore, 82. oakland, 67 and san jose is at 78. most neighbors on average about 5 to 10 degrees cooler than yesterday at this time. high pressure has been responsible for the warmup over the past couple of days.

it's beginning to weaken. we have more of an onshore breeze. we're cooling things off today. a few neighborhoods could warm a few degrees. over the next few days, no major heat in sight. in fact, yesterday was the hottest day of the entire week. here's our forecast model showing some of the fog past the coastline. as we did it's -- as we put this into motion, the cloud the surge back in and the trend will -- the clouds back in and the trend will continue until tomorrow. by 7:00, still some coastal fog on the increase. 58 to right around 78. more fog by 10:00. mid-50s to the 60s. here is a look at the numbers. still some nice numbers out there out towards santa rosa, antioch and brentwood. oakland tops out at 75. gilroy, right around 90. here is a look ahead at your

appears to be mounting for a joint stadium. the 49ers have put a lot of time and money into its santa clara deal and the team plans to break ground there in 18 months. there is a provision approved by voters last year to allow a second team to sublease that stadium. but the raiders do -- may not want to go to the south bay. they just announced yesterday. they have plans to build a stadium next to the oakland coliseum. oakland leaders think that would be better for the two team stadiums. how is this all linked to the nfl? it comes down to money. in a proposed deal to end the lockout, there's financing for unidentified new stadiums around the league. the bay area is considered a top -- is considered a top contender. ahead -- an update on our top story, a tense police standoff in union city. and we just got an update on a story we brought you last night involving expe
