good evening, i'm heather holmes. >> i'm ken wayne. two young men are behind bars tonight in connection to a shooting that left an 11-year- old san francisco girl in critical condition. the two suspects are 18 or 19 years old. police have not released their names but say they were involved in an altercation in the city's western addition neighborhood last night that erupted in gunfire. alley rasmus reports. >> reporter: eric holtz described the scene when he heard gunfire at 11:00 last night. >> it was loud and sudden. i was -- went deaf, you know, like hear something real loud and shattering a glass. >> reporter: two bullets struck his apartment. one went through the bed room window. his 11-year-old niece was inside listening to her ipod. >> she came running out and said, i been shot. >> reporter: the bullet struck the girl in the chest.

her uncle says she is in critical but stable condition after surgery. >> we don't know who is behind this or what -- how they feel or why they did it. you know? accidently or if they intentionally wanted to had your someone. >> reporter: a neighbor said she looked at the park across the street before the shooting and saw a group of teenagers. there was some sort of argument she heard, and then gunfire rang out. the teens ran away. >> this morning investigators returned to the scene to look for new evidence. neighbors stopped by with questions in support. >> i'm kind of surprised because it went through somebody's window. that could have been my house. >> reporter: holtz says he is anxious to leave what he describes as violent enabled. >> quite a few killings, murders. even on this one block alone. >> reporter: in san francisco, alley rasmus, ktvu channel 2news.

>> the shooting happened in the district where there is increasing crime an lack of jobs and services. >> i think we are losing the 17 to 26-year-old crowd especially if they are repeat other fenders in not giving them something to do, then it does surprise me now that something like this happens. >> as you can see in the sign behind him, he is running for sheriff. he says today's shooting and others like it should be a wake- up call to come up with new ways to keep young people away from street violence. also in san francisco, an arrest in the death of a man in buena vista park six weeks ago. officers have arrested 22-year- old david diaz of san francisco. on june 10, firefighters responding to reports of a brush fire found the burned body of a man. there is no word of motive or other suspects. firefighters in the east bay made quick work of a wind- whipped wildfire that started

about 2:30 p.m. in the altamont pass area near livermore. flames erupted on the south side of highway 580 between vasco and north flynn roads. the fire burned about 70 acres before firefighters had it under control. there is no word on any injuries or property damage. the cause of the fire is being investigated. we are learning new graphic details tonight about the attack on san francisco giants fan bryan stow. a criminal complaint reports louie sanchez and marvin norwood cut stow's tongue and disfigured his face. stow has been at san francisco general hospital since may. the "l.a. times" reports tips from the public led to the arrest of the two men on thursday. they along with doreen sanchez are set to be formally charged monday. giovanni ramirez, the man seen here, was the man police initially called their prime suspect in the case. he has been cleared. but he remains in custody on a parole violation. for the latest on the bryan stow case including reaction from dodgers fans about the

arrest, go to ktvu.com and click on the bryan stow tab. survivors of yesterday's massre at an norwegian youth camp are tonight telling tales of escaping from a lone gunman. at least 58 people are confirmed dead tonight on utoya island. a police s.w.a.t. team blamed transportation problems for delaying their arrival 90 minutes. the young people who survived described the chaotic scene as a man -- a man dressed as a police officer started shooting. >> we saw him coming down. people were running, some barricaded themselves inside the building. and we continued running to the shore and we heard rounds. getting fired on all the time. we weren't sure where to go. some people started swimming over and we got to a boat which we managed to get out to sea and he came to the shore and started firing rounds at the water and the boat. and after a while, he ran out of rounds. he hadn't hit me but he hit the boat but no one was injured.

just right. >> reporter: he would like to see a deal done before the markets open on monday. given today's progress that will be a challenge. ken pritchett, ktvu news. state and local governments across the nation are raising fees to offset lost tax revenues in california vehicle registration fees have increased. rhode island doubled fees at beaches. wyoming is now charging higher fees for trucks exceeding weight limits and in oregon fees are going up for medical marijuana. another dispute between republicans and democrats on capitol hill resulted in the temporary layoffs of about 4,000 federal aviation administration employees. the faa says the furloughs won't affect air traffic controllers or cause flight cancellations. congress failed to authorize funding for the agency. one issue to be language overturning a national mediation board ruling that airline and railroad employees can form a union by same majority of those voting.

customers swing in to a little place called gaylord's cafe. >> hard work, good employees, good drink makers. >> reporter: gaylord's actually didn't start as a coffee shop. it began as an ice cream shop and employees say last night a couple of guys ordered ice cream a ate it outside and went back in looking for laptops. >> someone tried to rob people in gaylord's coffee shop. >> i went to go into our back room to do something, and heard a scuffle, heard something like a chair or table fall over. >> reporter: she came back around to see the suspects ripping away customer laptops and as the thieves tried to get away. >> i think there was only one shot. >> reporter: there was gunfire just outside the front door. >> i don't know how many of our customers tried to stop them. when they did one of them fired and hit a woman in the leg. >> reporter: she was transported to the hospital in stable condition. at the scene a laptop was visible in the street along with various evidence markers

but police say the four suspects no description were nowhere to be found. >> i have lived in the bay area for 14 years. and i have never been this close to anything like this ever happening. >> reporter: but some residents we spoke to today say laptop thefts along piedmont avenue have been occurring more often this year. >> where there's money, people are going to go seek it out. >> reporter: gaylord's owner says that's just the way it is. the highway patrol closed all southbound limits of the nimitz freeway today because of an -- lanes of the nimitz freeway today because of an accident around 2 a.m. in oakland on 880 near 23rd avenue. as you can see two vehicles collided and the road was closed to clear the wreck and conduct an investigation. there is no report of any arrests or injuries. and no word on what caused this accident. family and friends are mourning the death of a san rafael teenager. the 17-year-old girl died on

tuesday in yosemite. 1,000 people have joined a facebook page. the school says counselors will be available throughout the summer for students and families affected by her death. some bay area nurse came together today pushing for more pediatric care. kaiser permanente will move from hayward to san leandro in 2014 without a pediatric unit. nurses showed up at a town hall meeting in fremont this morning asking for support for the unit. one nurse says without it, families throughout the east bay will suffer. >> not having a unit in san leandro decreases access for the families and it's a long way for people from fremont to drive to oakland or santa clara to visit their children. it's very difficult for our families. >> the nurses say they received support today from congressman pete stark at today's meeting. candlelight is providing the inspiration for a fundraiser under way right now in san francisco's hayes

valley. at lotus blue design store 10% of the sale of these unusual multilayered votive candles will go to help people with cancer. cancer survivor lee rose says she was undergoing chemotherapy in 1998 when she discovered the beautiful effect of combining a votive candleholder with a simple candle. since then, her business which she calls glassy baby has raised more than $600,000 for those touched by cancer. the fundraiser ends at 7:00 tonight. in news of the world tonight 32 people were killed when a bullet train hit another bullet train that stalled on the elevated tracks after lightning knocked out power to the train. some cars from the train fell 60 feet to the ground. at least 200 people were injured. in ontario canada, more than a million acres have burned in 111 separate wildfires racing across the northwestern part of province. the flames fueled by two months of drought have forced the

aren't the only problem. things aren't cooling off at night which increases the stress on people, animals and comes. so far there is no accurate count -- crops. so far there is no accurate count available of the number of "heat" deaths. a wildfire in san diego started in the coyote indian reservation in san diego county. it started near a secret military facility called the eagle rock training center which has two shooting ranges. a smaller fire broke out near there in may. there is no word on what started this newest fire which is now 30% contained. boy, it's hard to look at those pictures in new jersey when you look at our weather. pretty nice out there, let's check with our meteorologist mark tamayo. >> we are starting off with the fog in the morning and clouds pulling back to the coast and bay but with that temperatures have been cooling off quite a bit over the past two to three days. right now on the maps i can show you this on live storm tracker 2. there is the view from the fog up above. low clouds banked up offshore

and already surging into the bay for san francisco and sausalito. and also our buoys in the middle of the bay, winds gusting now to 16 miles per hour right around the bay bridge. a look outside right now we can show you this. there is evidence that fog bank already on the increase. and that will continue to increase late tonight into early tomorrow morning. that will be a big factor in the bay area forecast. in fact, we'll show it to you now. increasing low clouds for tonight. tomorrow we'll stick with the theme cool for the beaches, warm temperatures inland and then we have a bit of a warming trend showing up on the long range weather maps. first thing tomorrow morning, partly cloudy skies inland but mostly cloudy skies for the coast and for the bay. most of the bay area starting out sunday morning in the 50s. tomorrow temperatures do come up a little bit by about 2 to 5 degrees from today's highs. and those southwesterly winds will be increasing in the afternoon to around 20 miles an hour. as we take this into next week monday and tuesday, this weather system moves in from the north increasing the marine layer. as a result, more fog and we'll

continue to have a bit of a drop in the numbers for monday. tuesday will be the coolest day of the upcoming workweek. here's our forecast model showing you the overcast with the fog. first thing tomorrow morning at 6:00, widespread pulling back to near the coast and near the bay by 12:00 but still partly cloudy conditions and then there's the eventual temperature range with patchy coastal fog. inland more sunshine, temperatures back up into the 80s and that is all a part of tomorrow's forecast beginning at 7:00. low to mid-50s out there by 12:00, sun-cloud mix, patchy fog at the coast. winds pick up into the afternoon hours and there's the eventual temperature range. warmest locations approaching the low to mid-80s out toward fairfield, antioch and brentwood. oak -- oakland in the upper 60s. san francisco 65. half moon bay at 60. here's a look ahead. >> by tuesday we'll be
